Amazing Bakery! We love the setting, a charming historic mining town. We love the owners. They were attentive and went out of their way to bake a custom cake that was dye free for our kiddo and it was delicious!

It's fabulous to see new businesses opening in Virginia City. While at the Testy Festy, as my group calls it, we discovered this little bakery on C Street. Open in the morning with fresh baked croissants, breads, and other pastries. Then through the lunch time for made to order deli sandwiches on their fresh breads. Closing around 3 pm. The croissants were deliciously flaky and cinnamon roll nice and sticky. Family owned, it's a cute quaint spot. I love the keeping of the old original brick wall and uneven hardwood floors. It adds so much to the VC experience. Only a couple of small tables inside. Most of their items are for to go. I recommend stopping in early, as I was impressed at how early they sold out of several of the items we were wanting to get. Limited street parking out front.

The best cinnamon rolls Mmmm we ever had Better than Cinna bon for sure

    Garlic and Onion Sourdough Round.

I was staying in Virginia City, NV over the weekend and a close friend recommended the new bakery in town. I decided to take some homemade bread home so on my way out of town I stopped by and they had two fresh baked Garlic and Onion Sourdough rounds that just came out of the oven. The first one they gave me was burn on the top. I don't eat burn toast why would I buy burn bread. I asked nicely if I could have one not burnt so she showed me the other choice and It looked perfect!!! The rounds are huge and only $8. I also got a chocolate chip cookie while I was waiting and it was pretty tasty, I wish it came out of the oven!!!! The shop is small, but cute. Can't wait to go back and have a sandwich!!! I would definitely give this place a try if you're in the area. Hi

    Garlic and Rosemary sourdough bread

I wanted to love it! Fresh homemade garlic and Rosemary sourdough from a local company. The bread didn't rise enough, it's too dense. Trying to see if I can even make breadcrumbs out of it. At $10 a loaf, I'm on the fence. Work on your starter ladies, hoping for ya!!!

I got mine with mac and cheese and he got his with corn bread. We liked both sides. My toddler especially liked the mac and cheese. Good beer selection as well. Pretty small inside so we sat outside. We were with another family and unfortunately they have signs to not move any chairs and tables, so we were not able to sit together as all the tables on the patio were set for two.

You have to drive into Reno or Carson City to hit up a Starbucks or comparable coffee place. I heard from locals about The Roasting House. On my first visit, I saw that the Iced Brew special was Carrot Cake. Um? Only my favorite cake! I had the best timing and hit the jackpot! Of course that's what I ordered. It was delicious! The decor is absolutely adorable. It's like a beautiful Victorian feel to it. It has beautiful furniture, pictures on the wall, and they have coffee, jewelry for sale and other items. Additionally, they roast their coffee beans on-site with a large vintage roasting machine towards the back of the shop. The place definitely has an elegant, antique-like ambience that fits perfectly with VC. They also serve various baked goods, bagel sandwiches and other breakfast items. You will have a great start to your day by coming here first. Service is impeccable and the staff is super friendly. As you go towards the rear of the shop, there is a beautiful patio that overlooks Virginia city and the streets below C Street. It's a perfect place to sit and enjoy your morning coffee and breakfast item. It's very peaceful with beautiful scenery and they've added some rustic patio furniture. I've been back a couple times and the prices are really good. I'm from the Bay Area and compared to where I'm from the prices are more than reasonable for coffee. Greeted immediately and sat at a sizable table, I noticed plenty of seating availability; however, space was rather tight with regard to table placement. We found the menu to be extensive and combed through the plethora of choices before landing on our final decisions. Always eager to try new things, I noticed there were quite a few specialty cocktails, including spiked milkshakes. I opted for the Vanilla Kahlua, and I would do it all over again! The milkshake was blended to perfection, smooth with a little razzle-dazzle you didn't know you needed. The kids opted for chocolate milkshakes they loved and rated 10/10. Very much like our other dining experiences, the kids settled on chicken tenders and fries while we, on the other hand, chose to explore our options. We started off with chilli cheese fries along with spinach and artichoke dip served with house-made tortilla chips. The portions for both appetizers were well-sized and delicious. We managed to get quite the cheese pull with the chilli cheese fries, and the house-made tortilla chips were most definitely worth writing home about; they were perfectly sized, light, and airy with an excellent amount of crisp that added texture to the flavorsome spinach and artichoke dip. For our entrees, he ordered the bacon egg and cheese burger with fries; there was an option for a turkey Reuben; however, I'm not a fan of sauerkraut, so I politely requested a turkey Rachel, and although it wasn't an option on the menu, they obliged much to my heart's delight! My sandwich was toasted impeccably with the right amount of butter melted, offering a decadent crisp that merged nicely with fillings making up my sandwich. Truthfully, I was beyond impressed with the aesthetic of the establishment, the services provided, and how flavorful the food was. The staff was welcoming, knowledgeable, and engaging, which made our experience even more memorable, so much so that we eagerly anticipate our next visit.

We think there may have been some recent movements by the owners, and for the purposes of this review, I'll go with this Yelp entry the matches the pictures to what we experienced. Today was a quiet post-New Years day and Gayle wanted to dine someplace besides the Red Dog Saloon (our "usual"). The Canvas Cafe (or whatever it's called now) was just a block or so down C street and open. The dining room was small, cute, inviting, and warm. It was also a "one man show" today as one guy was working both the kitchen and the dining room (and very well). I especially appreciate a really busy guy who maintained a relatively high service level, with a smile and a generous side of patience. We all ordered sandwiches, including French Dip for Gayle, Smash Burger for Darling Granddaughter, and a grilled Chicken Pesto for me. Everything was delicious, with my only regret being that I should have ordered the impressive side salad that Gayle chose. A small bag of chips really didn't do the sandwich justice. I would have also preferred a beer, but there was no alcohol served today, and my bottomless glass of lemonade was more than just fine. Gayle and I agreed that we'd love to come back in whatever main place or annex. It's a fair drive back to Genoa from VC, and we were happy to head down the hill full and happy.
