We love Dorinda's Chocolates! They have been such a kind and consistent supporter of our work and the young people we serve. Their team recently welcomed our staff for a tour of their headquarters, and it was such a treat to see how much care goes into what they make. Every piece is handcrafted by their small local team, and you can feel the pride they take in their work. We also got to taste their seasonal Key Lime Pie Bonbon, which was incredible. On top of the tour, Dorinda's donated several huge bags of pretzels for our clients and staff to enjoy. I saw that Dorinda's was having an open house and thought it might be fun to check it out, and I am so glad I did. I hadn't yet had a chance to try their chocolate, and this was an amazing opportunity to not only try a wide variety (mint meltaway, peanut butter cup, espresso bean, chocolate pretzel), but to also make some by hand! Visitors were allowed back into the kitchen, where we washed hands and donned gloves, and were then given a tutorial in how to dip and decorate dark chocolate salted caramels. Mine were not too bad (I'll keep my day job), but they absolutely tasted delicious. All of the chocolates had a very fresh and distinctly non-mass-produced taste. Dorinda's clearly offers high-quality candies, while also coming up with some amazing flavors like the rice crispies and the strawberry balsamic. (I got to taste the actual olive oil used for this, and I will have to pick some up next time I'm in Truckee). The biggest surprise was their cherry cordial. Cherries are my top 2 favorite chocolates, and these are absolutely the best I've had (better than See's, Godiva, etc.). Perfect blend of dark chocolate, tart maraschino cherry, liquid center, and the bit of fondant icing...and noticeably freshly made. Thank you Dorinda's for the opportunity to discover your chocolates and to get a glimpse into the magic behind these delicious candies. I went to one of the Wine & Chocolate Pairings and it was so fun. There were four pairings (two white and two red) included in the $35 ticket which I thought was a pretty good deal. The team was all really nice and engaging and were able to help with all our needs. I can see why the venue is good for the summer with its outside dining but it can be a little difficult when it rains as it did last night. But even with the rain, it was still a good time. I attended one of Dorinda's Chocolates' wine and chocolate pairing events and it was such a treat--literally! The event featured four wines from Italy and Spain, each perfectly paired with one of Dorinda's artisan chocolates. Every pairing was thoughtfully curated, and the staff was super knowledgeable, walking us through the flavors and why they worked together. It also came with a beautiful charcuterie board that rounded out the experience nicely. The setting was just as enjoyable--seated outside on a cozy patio near the river, it felt relaxing and a bit luxurious. A perfect early evening outing. While all the chocolates were amazing, the marzipan one and the lemon raspberry stood out as my personal favorites. Rich, flavorful, and a little indulgent--exactly what you'd hope for in a tasting like this. My first impression was that the selection seemed limited, and the display looked a bit sparse. Fortunately, they did have additional items stored. However, many of the nameplates were turned around, which made it difficult to tell which chocolates were which. The customer service was excellent--the staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain the different options. Unfortunately, the chocolates themselves didn't quite match the price point. The caramel was hard rather than smooth and melt-in-your-mouth, some pieces were broken on the bottom, and the flavors were just average overall. This place is inside the same building as the rolled ice cream parlor. My friend and I walked the river trail and came inside to try some chocolate. There is not a lot of parking available besides street parking. We got a couple of chocolates and camels to go. I'd heard about Dorinda's, but didn't know where it was. It's right by Hubs Roaster. But how we walked up to the storefront via the tiny alleyway made it very special. There was a sign for "Thai Rolled Ice Cream" and we needed to figure out what it was; and we were glad we did! Very back of the Dorinda's Chocolates, there are the rolled ice cream counter, where a young man explained what it is, how it's prepared, and made one for us. It was delicious! Salt Caramel with pecan and pretzel. Even on a wintry cold day, it was an excellent treat. Wonderful service. Enjoyed the whole experience. We will be back for more! read more

This is my absolute favorite chocolate shop in the Reno area. I'm not sure if they have any other stores anywhere else but what I can say is they are one of the best. I have family from different states that ask us to send them chocolates from Dorinda's. They have amazing choices and seasonal options. I just tried their pumpkin truffle the other day. And it's extremely good. The chocolate is absolutely divine. My top favorites are their salted caramel which they have in dark and milk chocolate and there are also the chocolate cordials which are amazing!!!! Gayle and I were in Reno last Friday for Lunch and cards with Jim and Marti. As we we leaving, Gayle mentioned that she wanted to by some chocolates for our friend Fern who we would be visiting the next day as part of her birthday weekend. We also later bought Cheese Board (Berkeley) corn cherry scones for her husband Don. Marti recommended Dorinda's, so before long, we were heading Downtown/Riverside kind of our way back home. Gayle and I were first struck by the beautiful and leafy Riverside neighborhood. In fact, we immediately thought that this would be a great area to live, if we ever wanted to escape the relative isolation and occasional family drama of our beloved Genoa. As Beaujolais Bistro is also next door, we'll have some additional opportunity to explore. We ended up with a very nice box of assorted chocolates for our friend. We were very impressed with the friendly and interactive service, and the variety that we had to choose from. And Fern was very grateful and pleased. What a fabulous experience! From the friendly and knowledgeable service to the delicious chocolates, top to bottom I 100% recommend Dorinda's chocolates. My husband and I were greeted right away with a sample each, then we were educated about the types of ingredients that they use and where they're sourced. Regarding the chocolates themselves, I have to say that the white chocolate lemon something-or-other might be one of my favorites, even though I don't like "traditional" white chocolate. It was just so different -- and all the chocolates we came home with taste so "clean" and not too sweet. Each chocolate offered a unique experience. :) Yes, the chocolates are a bit on the pricey side, but I'm sure the business has a lot of costs to cover, and as a special treat or occasional splurge, it is totally worth it. read more

There was a yelp event here a few weeks ago, and it was the first time we had been here. In the special event, and we had some samples and the chocolate was just amazing. I had to comeback and get some more! The first thing I can tell you though, parking is rather difficult. There is some construction going on next-door and with all the construction stuff, as well as other businesses in the area and homes/apartments, had a bit of a walk. That being said, it is worth it. I don't even know the name of the chocolate that I ordered. You can see it in the picture. This place also has ice cream and plenty of little gifts. I definitely recommend you giving us a try if you haven't tried it. It is a bit expensive, however you get what you pay for. Definitely worth it. I will definitely be back. I have waited to write this review until I went to Sees Candy and tried their version of the fruity creams I tried at Dorindas. I wanted to be able to explain the difference. First, before even discussing chocolates, I've got to say I absolutely LOVE this location. Normally I would hate a locality that is difficult to find and that doesn't have simple straightforward parking. However this location is special. It's tucked away down an old fashioned cobblestone alleyway. I'm providing pictures to help you find it. The alley is across from a particularly beautiful path along the Truckee River. Coming to this location could be considered a romantic date night. It's that beautiful. Once you drive by the location and are aware of where it is via my pictures, find street parking and enjoy a beautiful walk to Dorindas. Maybe stop for specialty coffee before or after chocolates? Walk off some chocolate calories along the River? Endless possibilities. Just know you are NOT visiting a strip mall. This place is special. As for chocolates...the one word that pops into my head is LOVELY. Everything about Dorindas is Lovely. Just walking through the door makes ME feel lovely. It's a tiny shop with Rolled Mountain Ice Cream at the rear. So..."lovely chocolates"?...here's the deal...I really like Sees Candy. I grew up on it. But Dorindas has that "cut above" quality. Where the Sees candies are....Well...Sees Candies...Dorindas have a rich creamy texture that I've never found at Sees. I was disappointed in Dorindas lemon and orange "flavors". I didn't find them as flavorful as I'd hoped. That's why I checked out the lemon and orange creams at Sees. Guess what...Sees have even less flavor. Obviously I've been completely corrupted by Ethel M's dark lemon cream. I keep trying to find a comparable chocolate locally. If I could wave a magic wand over Dorindas I would give their lemon creams the flavor of Ethel M's. If they could DO THAT...I wouldn't be able to stay away. I haven't tried a lot of Dorindas flavors. Partly because I find them pricy. Partly because I try not to eat a lot of sugar. But I can say that every Dorindas chocolate has the most luscious creamy texture imaginable. I'm posting pics after I bit into them to prove it. Bottom line...these are definitely gift quality chocolates that will make a favorable impression. Think LOVELY...from their beautiful boxes and impressive finishing touches...to the most amazing deliciousness. Just plan to make this an outing and NOT just a quick run in and out. Dorinda's is a world class chocolatier that fortunately calls Reno home! Every time I visit I'm in awe of how professional, courteous and well informed the staff is and so beyond impressed by how passionate and willing they are to share the stories behind each product and the entire process to make them. In a day and age where we do everything digitally and human contact has been drastically minimized, Dorinda's manages to maintain that old school and high class personal touch on their guest experience. If the chocolate sucked (WHICH IT DOES NOT), you probably wouldn't care because the staff made you feel like a million bucks buying it. As I said, the chocolate here is divine and that's because they only use the best and don't use preservatives, stabilizers or fillers to make their product look as good as it does. It's all natural and proper handling that insures this chocolate keeps and eats just as Dorinda herself intended. Their innovation is another strong area of the business. They keep their fan favorites but they are always adding to the lineup. Today I discovered their snacking bars, aka segmented chocolate bars you can break a piece off of to... snack! They have quite a variety but I picked up the 70% cacao with cacao nibs for my wife. She really loves her dark chocolate and the bitter nibs are an extra touch I knew she'd be into. Watch for the new packaging on these because they'll be show stoppers when you gift them to people! Gosh. Can I share any more love with Dorinda's? Ok. One more. This is a family run business through and through. Dorinda is still involved but she's proudly handed much of the operation off to her two sons and they're carrying on the family name beautifully. You cannot go wrong with Dorinda's chocolates. These are melt in your mouth heavenly delicious. We've popped into the shop so many times over the years, mostly while walking the Truckee, or when grabbing coffee next door. The salted Carmels are my absolutely favorite, but everything is delicious. My most recent experience with Dorinda's was for Mother's Day. I wanted to send my mom a little something to celebrate her but also wasn't interested in buying her more consumer stuff, flowers, or a plant, and when I saw an email pop up from Dorinda's that was promoting Mother's Day gift boxes I knew that was what I wanted to get! My mom was so pleased with her gift box and said the chocolates were the best she'd ever had! So, I entered. Lo and behold, I won! When I walked in to Dorinda's to pick up my prize, the place smelled heavenly!! And there was such a variety of products! Chocolate galore! Much more than Willy Wonka! The staff was very friendly and helpful. They congratulated me and gave me my gift basket. Steal some of the best chocolates you'll find anywhere. It's a bit challenging to get to the store these days with the construction going on in what used to be the parking lot. Hopefully when the dust settles it will be easier and there will still be parking for the businesses that are in this area. Finally made it here! After seeing Donna B's Yelp check-ins here [Yelp Reno] and drooling over her photos we made it a point to visit this charming chocolate shoppe when we were in town. This is one of Reno's most favorite sweet spots located near the Truckee River in Downtown Reno offering unique handcrafted chocolates that will for sure ruin you for all other chocolate. While captivated by the variety of sweets including truffles, bars, turtles, barks and baked goods on display it was the ice cream that called my name. The weather was warm and somewhere in the 80's that day. Hubby and I admired, oooh'd and aaaah'd over the beautifully made chocolates as we headed over to the rolled ice cream section . It had a different name but was exclusively part of Dorinda's Chocolates. I think the friendly gal at the chocolates counter mentioned that it was owned by the Professional Chocolatier's son, Dillon. Who thinks of going to Reno to buy chocolate?? Dorinda's is a must when in Reno. As Reno is called the biggest little city, Dorinda's is big flavor packaged in a pretty little store, that will keep your eyes and tummy searching for the next great piece of chocolate. This wonderful chocolate shop I first encountered in Truckee, CA about 10 years ago. It was located in a cute shop next to the the Truckee River on River street. I went in my first time and had a tasting with Dorinda herself! She was so sweet and generous. I was just so devastated to see the doors close several years back... I'm very, very particular about my chocolate and always have been. I had to forget about this wonderful spot. Last November I was down near the river walk with my family and I SAW IT. I was absolutely gobsmacked to see the familiar sign and logo! I went in and bought some for myself and my whole family. The very first thing that I tried were the coated Oreos and they were epic. Now my favorite is the chocolate covered cherries, they are the best ones I've ever had! And there are some lousy ones out there. I went by today and got a couple of those and a 12 piece for my friends birthday. I'm so happy that I found Dorindas again....Sigh read more

Today, I found myself craving their once a year chocolate covered strawberries and man oh man, was I hurting inside knowing that I won't be able to get it anytime soon LOL!
