We moved and the garage at our new home hadn't been maintained and squealed when it opened and closed. It sounded like it was going to snap and come crashing down. I set up an appointment for a tune up about 10 days out from moving in and everything went smooth come appointment day. Ken showed up, assessed the issue (mounting brackets were worn out and needed to be repaired). He also helped reset the codes and program new remotes and swapped out the wheels on the track. He greased the track as well and now it runs so smooth and quiet. Ken was great and I'd highly recommend this company. On Sunday night, our garage door at our home on a busy street in Elmhurst would come down halfway and the cables seemed off the track, we suspect it landed on a foreign object. We called first thing Monday morning and spoke to a pleasant gentleman (John) who promised someone can come in the afternoon and will call ahead of time so I don't spend all day just waiting. John is a super honest and knowledgeable person who always fixes my issues quickly and fairly. I had a garage door emergency and was frantically calling several places because it was a weekend and I wasn't sure that anyone would be able to come out. He was on his way but someone that I left a message for (and my address on the voicemail) beat him here. Ugh. John is so professional that he called my voicemail and said he would bow out when he saw a work truck in my driveway as not to make things uncomfortable for me. That person replaced the spring but then I had another issue with the actual opener a few months later and John was the person I called. They did a repair for me to keep it cost effective but it didn't work out as we'd hoped and it needed replacement 2 months later. John gave me a fair price on the replacement assembly that had a WiFi opener (awesome when you have kids that leave the garage door wide open when rushing out to go to school and I'm sitting helplessly at work. Not anymore!) He set us up with new openers, and he also changed the rail because when we bought the house it had the wrong size and the door didn't open all the way. Now that my garage door issues were over, or so I thought, now I was noticing my door was loud. He came out again today and fixed something that should have been caught by the company that replaced the spring, and then he didn't even charge me! I first called another garage door company to come out and look at my garage because one of the springs broke. They quoted me saying I needed a new door and opener. After that company failed to come out two days in a row, I called Barrett Garage Doors. John came out and said all I needed was new springs and a couple of improvements on how the door was installed because the previous owner who installed the door did some things that didn't look correct. He also opened up the opener and examined the gears and said the opener did not need to be replaced or repaired. He did a very thorough examination and analysis of my entire garage door, which is something the other guy didn't do at all. John saw things that I never saw in the 4 years I've been in this house. He knows his stuff. He said he would have the work done the next morning and he was true to his word. I came home and the garage door opened and closed better than it ever did. In the past, it used to bounce up randomly and I would have to physically move the door down. Now I don't have any worries. The price was reasonable and fair. I called Barrett while out of town with a broken spring. Wife was at home with a screaming baby and errands to run before family came to visit. I recently put a review of Barrett Garage Doors a few days ago that was negative. Since then i received a letter in the mail from the owner of the company. He said that the employee that was rude was disciplined and told me how small companies get their referrals. He was so kind to say that he would pay the invoice if i had the door fixed. We got together and agreed that he would send someone out to repair the door at his expense and 2 days later sure enough he kept his word. i have never had this kind of service before where the owner agrees to make it up to the customer for an employees customer service mistake.
