Wow, what service? Our garage door broke and called them up and explained that not only did it break, but we are having some work done next day that will really upset the contractors if they cannot get through the front garage door. Nelson Garage door told me is it ok if they come very late, as all of their people booked all day. I get a call at 9:30pm and Paul the service technician comes out and fixed the door. He did not even charge extra for the late hour service. He also explained some maintenance I can do to prevent this type of issue from occurring. I hope that I won't need garage repair service again anytime soon, but if I do, Nelson will be top on my list. Someone, who will remain nameless, neglected to put his/her vehicle in park and rolled into the garage door as it was coming down. I was livid! I head out with mallet in hand in a feeble attempt to knock the pin back on track. As if I really know what I'm doing. Frustration quickly set in and I went on a mad search for emergency service. I neglected to mention that this all transpired after 10pm on a Sunday night! The gentleman who answered my call after a few rings explained the billing process; quite reasonable for emergency service! He arrived within minutes and diagnosed the problem and various solutions. Normally, I like someone being thorough, but I was still trying to contain my fury regarding an unnecessary expense. I wasn't receiving the details in the most welcoming manner, but he retained his professionalism. Kudos to Nelson's! In my defense, outflow of money + missing my bedtime = unhappy camper. Once nameless person left the area, I did apologize for being short with the service provider. He kindly let me off the hook, scheduled replacement for the automatic garage door system and drafted my receipt. The door opened and closed smoothly, just as I needed. I was asked to get quotes to replace 118 garage doors for our condo development. After reviewing 5 companies we decided to go with Nelson Garage Door. They gave us terrific pricing, spelled out exactly what was to be done and there were no surprises. Paul had also built up a stellar reputation doing work for individual home owners in the Courtyards of Westchester. We purchased 2 inch thick steel backed doors which included new springs and all the hardware. He even offered garage door openers and keypads to our residents at a reduced rate. Coordinating closely with Paul Macbeth (the owner) over the course of several weeks the job progressed smoothly until its conclusion. He was flexible with the schedule and was on site daily to inspect the work that was done that day. His workers were courteous, even helping some of our senior residents move items out of the way so they could compete the task of installing the doors. I would highly recommend his company to any development or individual in the market for garage doors and or accessories. This is a diligent and hard working company. We were very impressed by the professionalism he displayed and the personal touch he had in dealing with our residents. The garage door fixing world is similar to many other house repair business that may pull the wool over your eyes. Our experience with Paul led us to buy a whole new garage door set up (door, tracks, springs, belt driven motor, etc). Very happy with the end result. There are a couple of trades that always seem to be on the fringe of fly by night, unreliable, trunk slammers. Chimney sweeps, air duct cleaning services and overhead door companies top my list. I had a recoil spring snap on my garage door on the holiday weekend, so I'm done. It's a very wide and heavy door which took four people to lift so I could remove my cars. I called on Labor Day and left a message as a non-emergency. Late than night, the call was returned. That surprised me. By noon the next day, my garage door was opening and closing as smooth as ever. Paul showed up as planned and determined, yup, I had a broken spring. He discussed the pricing, we agreed, I went back working on some e-mails and he was all done. Worked great, the price was fair. I figured I would have to go through a list of door guys and I wouldn't have an opening door all week. With little more to work on than the other Yelp reviews, Nelson seemed like a good, local option. My experience was highly positive. read more

Our garage door had been a little unstable as it opened with our Genie garage door opener and then suddenly it would not go higher than 4 feet or so. Called Nelson at about 10am and by 2pm Miguel was at our garage assessing the problem. He found one cable had disconnected and fixed that. He was also very honest about the condition of the entire setup. He wrote on the invoice exactly what needed to be replaced, quoting the price for all necessary repairs and parts needing to be replaced soon. I called on Monday evening, after I broke the garage door opener. Paul called me back Tuesday morning, said he would try to come by Tuesday or Wednesday depending on how his already scheduled service calls went. He came by on Tuesday afternoon.
