Definitely check out the wonderful coffee shop across the street from the gas station. One note for hotel staff, which I already provided feedback on, is that the staff attending to you during breakfast are very hit or miss. For example, when I asked for hot black tea, I was told they only had herbal tea. However, I know, for a fact, they had black tea as I saw others drinking it, and it was available in the rooms. Unfortunately they couldn't seem to find any, and I was given Lipton black tea instead, which was a disappointment for the amount of money we were paying to stay there the time it took for staff to wait on us was a Billy slow and each time we ordered the food that was delivered was either incorrect, cold or the waitress seemed utterly confused at what we were ordering or what we were asking for. I'm not sure she spoke more than a few words of English to be perfectly honest, and while I normally do not complain about such things, it greatly inhibited our ability to kick off the morning on a good note. Despite the restaurant, however, everything about the hotel and the front desk, staff, and the location were fantastic, and I would highly recommend.

The location is ideal in that you can easily drive up to Duck for its cute shops and restaurants or down to Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head for more restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. Parking is free. You just need to place a hang tag on your rear view mirror to show you are a guest at the hotel.

It's frustratingly hard to get in touch with someone when you need assistance. In short, you're paying for the location and ocean access, but the interiors and upkeep need serious attention. With some investment in updates and better guest service, it could return to being a top-tier beach property.

This other lady who looked like a manager, was asking other guests about the elevator. When I told her that is your employee with the supply cart and he's been standing at the elevator and it's not working. She's responded to me saying "I don't know him. I don't know what's going on. I don't know about another elevator. I'm new here. This is my first day." Really? You start your first day on Easter Sunday and you had no training? There is another elevator, but apparently that's been out of order for many months. My only complaint was the shower. It was very difficult to route the water from the faucet up to the showerhead and the water was only lukewarm. If we had stayed longer, we would have asked for a different room because of that. We could tell the hotel has been updated within the last few years. It wasn't faded decor, but had a clean, classy vibe. Not a high-end resort hotel, but certainly worth the price and it's conveniently located.

So the king bed was caved in and broken when we arrived in the nice bedroom... housekeeping just made it and moved on... this is how maintenance fixed it yesterday with no tools. We are traveling with an 84yo with mobility issues that is now in the bunk bed room. This is night two on the floor after promising several times that it was going to be handled right away. What does one do about this? We asked them to take the bed down so we could at least use the nightstands and outlets. They said sure but never showed up. Croatan surf club... any advice? It seems like we are being messed with for their entertainment at this point.

When I booked The Loft, I was unsure what to expect as I hadn't read other reviews about it, so here is my take for those potentially interested in booking: The Loft * it is basically a one-bedroom apartment -- with a bed in the living room area and a bed in the bedroom. There is a microwave, a refrigerator, and a Keurig. You have a full sized bathroom as well, and a legit living area with a couch and a couple chairs. It is perfect to split amongst 4 people; you won't feel crowded! * It is a walk upstairs. You can get to The Loft using a separate entrance from the house. You do not need to walk through the main house to get to The Loft. We liked this a lot, for privacy. But, you may need to make several trips to/from your car if you are carrying a lot of luggage. If you are unable to carry luggage on your own, I'd recommend having a friend help you or, if you are staying alone, I would recommend a different room at Cypress. The walking up the stairs was not an issue for me and my friends, but I think it could have been an issue for my parents. * It has a outdoor patio area with 4 chairs around a small table, and you have a distant view of the ocean. It's lovely. The B&B experience: Bill was simply fantastic throughout our stay. The breakfast was delicious every morning. My husband and I are early birds so had no issue making it in time for the 8:30 breakfast. The breakfast was fresh and yummy! You are walking distance from the beach (like a 3 minute walk!). The B&B has chairs for your use, so you can grab one of those chairs and walk over to the beach. You're also walking distance from a few restaurants and to Duck Donuts if that's your thing. We tried Duck Donuts for the first time on a morning walk; it was ok -- to each their own! Tips: If you are driving to Duck for a wedding, please leave the Cypress 2 hours before your event start! We had no clue how bad traffic could get. What should have been a 20 minute ride took slightly over 2 hours. Apparently, it's just like that on the weekends (especially Saturdays), so you've been warned! All in all, we had a fantastic experience here and will be excited to return.

I did see a beach wagon , skim board, extra tank of propane and a few other odds n ends in the garage. This is a nice community with like rental housing with houses painted in a beach color theme. You do have a easy access drive up area to dispose of your trash. Overall nice accommodations. Not a gated community and as I was loading up to leave , a older van started up next to me in the parking spot. It was loud( no muffler ) and the fumes were pointing right at me from the exhaust pipe. As I was coughing, I went up to the window to ask if they could turn off the engine till I was finished. Too my surprise, I seen two guys smoking, not pot but crack. They were startled and I asked them to turn off the engine it was choking me out with the exhaust. They must have spent the night in the van because I did not see anyone get in it while I was loading up my SUV. They did turn off the van, it had a name of a Church from VA on the side. Then they turned it on again and too off. Good. Like I said it was not a gated community. Also a problem with communication: No Phone number for company , no answer for the number on Yelp and no voice mail. I found and cleaned black mold from the bathroom. The gas grill did not light, the HVAC filter was filthy, should have been changed a few months ago. No number to communicate with owners, unable to resolve any problems.
