    Shepherds Pie

I have been meaning to stop in Barrington's Irish Pub for a couple months now. I finally did it and I regret not doing it earlier! I am fascinated with Irish food and really enjoy shepherds pie. Most places prepare it like a pot pie but replace the top crust with mashed potatoes. Barrington's prepares it in a manner that Guy's Grocery Games would refer to as a de-constructed shepherds pie. It's served in a bowl with the mashed potatoes in the center, surrounded by a sea of the meat filling and two pieces of soda bread along the wall of the bowl. I enjoyed every bite and wished I was hungry enough to order another serving! However, that one serving was just as filling as it was tasty. Then I foolishly thought I had room for dessert! So I ordered the Soda Bread pudding. It is served very hot and it is very good. Unfortunately I ate only half of it because I was now uncomfortably full having been unable to stop eating! I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience at Barrington's with its Irish decor and the eclectic music playing at a light volume in the background. I look forward to returning soon.

The stew and soda bread were delicious! Ambiance was cute and authentic Irish pub. Good variety of food on menu.

Just discovered Barrington's. Really cool atmosphere with live music. The servers are really attentive and the beer is cold! My wife got the Reuben Bites which are amazing! Come give it try!

We read some reviews and were hesitant to go there but the hotel clerks really thought highly of it so we decided to try it. We were pleasantly surprised! We would rate this restaurant as one of the best restaurants we've been too. My husband had Bangers & Mash and I had the Fork and Knife Stew which was over-the-top TASTY! Even my hubby agreed my dish was better than his. He wants to learn how to make it. Our waitress, Rachel, was so friendly! When we asked her name, she told us and then asked what our names were and then shook our hands when we told her our names. She checked on us frequently too. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience.

Fun but noisy when crowded spot. Food quite good and reasonably priced. Friendly and attentive service.

Stew was good however it's really overpriced for what they give you. 26$ for a bowl of stew that costs maybe 8.

They served us warm/tepid pot pie and told us they had no way to heat it up. We didn't eat it.

We were sat at a table next to a window with a wonderful view. It was a sunny day so it was bordering on being in the hot seat, lol. The service was fantastic. Came here with my husband on a rare date night. I was REALLY excited about this place. The menu had…read morea lot of our favorite dishes. For starters, we ordered the artisan bread, a dozen oysters, and the beet salad. As someone who bakes and sells my own artisan sourdough, I was underwhelmed by the bread. I liked the touch of truffle they add to it but it needed salt. And it also needed to be on the table well before the 35 minutes we waited for it. The oysters were also not very memorable. I can't remember what one of the varieties was, but they were brinier than I care for but that's just a personal preference. The kumamotos were the TINIEST oysters I've ever seen. I've eaten my share of kumamotos and I know Japanese oysters are generally smaller and sweeter than other varieties (which is why they're my favorite) , but I'm not exaggerating when I say they were the size of quarter. I also didn't like the frozen mignonette they served as an accoutrement. It didn't seem frozen--it spread like jam. It didn't really taste like vinegar or shallot like mignonette should. It was just not very good. The beet salad was EXCELLENT. The chèvre was generous, the bitter micro greens tasted great with the beets and chèvre. It was well seasoned. We devoured it. For entrees, I had the dayboat scallops and my husband had the duck leg. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the leek risotto was very tasty. I'm not really sure what I was supposed to do with the pickled lemon on my plate. I tried to eat a small piece with the other elements and it was so overpowering that I left the rest on my plate. Now let's talk about the protein--my $52 scallop dish came with THREE scallops. Not even whole scallops as I'm pretty sure they were cut in half to cook more evenly. Three small 1/2 scallops and two cubes of pork belly. For Fifty-two dollars. My husband enjoyed the duck, but again, the portions were disappointing. $230 later, we ended up going through a drive through because we were still hungry. Unlikely we'd return after such an expensive meal left us so unsatisfied.

I was honestly shocked by how good the food was. I had initially assumed it might be a spot primarily for tourists, but a dear friend of mine who is a local mentioned that people in Victoria actually love coming here. She even noted that some friends from her children's school were there just the night before for an alumni weekend. The menu absolutely exceeded my expectations. I was blown away by the fish and chips; the fish was moist with a light batter and wasn't oily at all. The burgers, Irish stew, and shepherd's pie were all delectable as well. The real standout, however, was the sockeye salmon in a pesto preserved lemon broth--it was so addictive that I wish I could replicate the recipe at home. It is very easy to see why this spot has received so many accolades, and I would love to return the next time we are back in Victoria!
