    Deviled eggs

Went to Callen's this evening during happy hour with a friend. Lots of good food options, and not a lot of people out on a Tuesday. We got the wedge salad, chicken wings, fishwich, and deviled eggs. All of them very delicious. Only critique is the hot sauce for the chicken wings had a big hit to it after the first bite, but the sauce was amazing taste. The chicken alone was good, had some good chard parts and smoky salty flavor. The fishwich was amazing, the sauce and the thin crispy batter on the fish was delicious. I had added a little bit of that hot sauce from the wings and that made it even better! Loved the views from the bar and all around the place. We got to see the sunset, which was really pretty that night. The service was good. The servers had good communication and we were able to get our order in quite easily and fast.

Food was really good! The clam chowder looked really thick, but tasted really good. Fish and chips were really fresh and really good too. Service was pretty fast and friendly. Lots of seating inside with two separate sides, one with tables and one more of a bar.

Diner style restaurant but it did have a bar. Friendly staff who seated imme Ordered the Fish tacos ($19) and Salmon Sandwich ($23) along with a half bottle of red wine ($22). Food was good. Bonus!! Met a fellow Hawaiian - 5 stars for that!! HH menu with $5 beer and wine - will have to come back for that!

Came here on a whim while on a BBR with family visiting for the holidays. Nice restaurant, service and food was good. I suggest going during happy hour when some of the food Items are $5.00. It's a little spendy. I do recommend.

Corned beef hash: perfect eggs, nicely seasoned but col potatoes, tough corned beef

We arrived around 9:30 on a Saturday morning, and there were plenty of tables. Around 10:00, they started getting busy. There was no host/hostess on duty, so a female was doubling as hostess. She told us she would be with us in a few minutes, and eventually came back, pointed to the seating area, and instructed us to pick any table. She could have told us that to begin with. She didn't ask us if we wanted drinks, but the bus boy brought water. Eventually, our server reappeared and brusquely said, "Are you ready to order? If not, I'm going to take their order,"while pointing to another party. We were not yet ready, so I asked for more time. It was a long time before she returned. When the server returned, she was suddenly very friendly. It was if someone had flipped a switch. She took our order, and our food came out in a timely manner. Food was a mixed bag. I ordered the corned beef hash. My eggs were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The toast, which was bread from a local bakery, was pretty special. The corned beef had a nice flavor, but it was tough. The smashed potatoes were perfectly cooked and seasoned, but they were on the cold side. I did taste my boyfriend's chicken fried steak and thought it was very good. In terms of ambiance, the place has a rustic, comfortable feel. The restroom was spotless, but out of paper towels. When one of the people in my party mentioned that to the server, she said she didn't have time to deal with it, and to tell the bus boy. In the end, I grabbed a roll of paper towels from behind the hosting stand and put them in the restroom. The shame about this place is that you can imagine the potential, and yet the service is so bad that it detracts from the experience.

amazing washington three-berry cobbler, perfect mix of textures and temperatures

callen's is a small restaurant near the port townsend ferry terminal, and is the perfect way to end a trip to whidbey! the risotto and the berry cobbler were highlights from the dishes we chose - the cobbler especially was a perfect combination of sweet and tart berries, soft pillowy chantilly cream, and vanilla ice cream that melted into the oat crumble. amy was so kind and personable during the entire service. after a small mix-up, she went above and beyond to make sure our experience was delicious and comforting after a busy day trip. (we're naming our nonexistent firstborn children after her; that's how good it was.)

While waiting for the ferry, my husband ran in to order so I can't speak much of the inside but the food he grabbed was delicious!! What I originally wanted (anything with local mussels) was out of stock so the lady taking our order suggested the shrimp pasta made with locally caught shrimp. Hubs got the fish and chips. It all smelled and tasted delicious! If it were a warmer day (and way less windy!) I would've loved to enjoy my food there.

I really wanted to love this place! It's super cute, cozy and near the ferry, but we waited over an hour for our table and then had the slowest service in the beginning of our meal. Once our food came, they immediately brought the check so clearly they're faster on that end of the meal. I will say the local mussels were a stand out for us! So flavorful and delicious, but just wish they came with some more bread.

    Salmon BLTA
    Tricia M.

This place was recommended to us from a person in a shop. We had a bit of a wait before being seated. The server was very friendly and we really enjoyed them when they were able to make it over to our table. The clam chowder is thick and flavorful. Everyone at the table who ordered it would get it again. The mussels were again sup and flavor and tender. The salmon BLTA was fine but a little lackluster on flavor and a bit dry... I probably would not order it again but I would return and try something else.

A little indecisive about where I wanted to go in Coupeville, but glad I happened in to Callen's. Seated immediately & ordered what I believe was a Gumbo they were doing that day. It was excellent. The server was great, nice and clean. Cool location too, right on the water by the Port Townsend Ferry. Will be back!

    Mark R.

Wasn't expecting much as this is the only option around the Coupeville ferry landing, but was pleasantly surprised. We were seated quickly on the patio (dog-friendly) and ordered the Alaskan cod fish and chips. Super good.

What a great spot. I was visiting Whidbey Island and chose to hangout in Coupville. Callen's was one of the top restaurants so I decided to dine here. It's a nice spot right across the ferry. I sat by the window so it gave me a nice water view. Service was awesome from Synda-Marie. 5 STARS. I enjoyed listening to the music that was played on a record player. Wow!!! I haven't seen vinyl 12" records in years. Food: I ordered the smoke salmon served on a fresh bagel. It was delicious and the best I've ever had. I washed it down with a glass of Prosecco. Overall, such a great spot and friendly service.

    Clam Chowder

Clam chowder had rich and thick base with lots of chucks of goodness. Bay fish on Hawaii roll was well balanced, fresh, and delicious. View of water is amazing. Definitely worth the drive.

I mean, wood-fired oven, eclectic ingredients, and local sourcing. What's not to like, right? Well... We ordered the sausage and added their garlic mushroom special topping. While the crust had just the right amount of char, it was really chewy. It may be grown and milled locally, but it lacked the crispness and airiness of a good Napolitano pizza crust. Also, we paid an additional $8 for the mushrooms. There were minuscule amounts on our pizza. There wasn't that much of sausage, either. We ordered a glass of Sangiovese and another of Tempranillo. They were imported and fairly acidic. Why not take advantage of the great WA wines? The guy handling the orders (dark hair and a good amount of ink) was great. He apologized that they had just run out of the Walla Walla onions we wanted to add to our pizza. He gave us a reasonably good estimate of the wait time. When we finished our wines and decided to change our dine-in to to-go, he made it happen with no issues, despite dealing with a long line of people placing orders.

But the food most definitely fell flat (sorry). The chicken burrito I ordered tasted like it was stuffed with Wonder Bread. It was certainly soft, fresh and chewy Wonder Bread, so full credit for that.) The home-made tortilla chips were a very nice touch, very crunchy. The salsa served with it (verde and rojo) was a bit disappointing. If Gerber Baby Food made salsa, this would be it. Fresh, pretty bland, and had the consistency and texture of applesauce. They have a few unmarked bottles of house-made salsa, made with apple cider (according to one of the waitstaff) which was a bit spicier, but an unusual flavor. (My wife guessed that it had been made with beer.) So if you love Mexican food, but can't tolerate anything spicier than mayonnaise, this would be a great choice.
