The location is off of a hwy. Very large building dark on the inside. The food was really good, very high quality taste and cooking style. Tasted authentic and not microwaved. We have the poutine, starter salad with apple slices, meatloaf and a burger with fries. The poutine was very hearty, but small for a starter made to share with the table. The meatloaf and potatoes and veggies were very good and also hearty and high quality. Thick mushroom gravy. The base of the gravy tasted like can or powder, with added veggies. That was the only thing of negative note. The table soda bread was really good and soft. The honey butter was delicious. The burger and fries was very good if not a little to greasy. But he said he'd get it again. We had the berry pie with a scoop of ice cream. The crust wasn't normal and spiced and it was really delicious. Hands down it was the best part of the meal. I got the gift card deal from Costco. The waitress tried to say I only had $80. On them and that Costco must have messed up, but the gift cards are preloaded. I won't accuse her of trying to gift herself a $20 tip off my gift card, but I had to matter of factly that she was incorrect and I'd like my $20 back on the gift card I'd never used. It's solid. Traditional Irish fare with generous portions. The restaurant is nice inside with comfortable seating and room for large parties. Service is typically fast and friendly. Pricing is good. Some dishes are better than others. I'm a big fan of the Guinness beef stew, the homemade chicken tenders and the turkey dinner. I was less impressed with the Irish broil - the meat was decent, but the marinade had an odd flavor that I ended up masking with gravy. We arrived at 8:43pm not knowing they were closing at 9pm John helped us with both drinks and food and recommendations and not once rushed us out the door. Writing this review because we stopped here for breakfast and most of the reviews I read are for lunch and dinner. This is a good place to stop for breakfast. It was busy but we were seated right away. The service was good and efficient. Everything we ordered was good and if you're hungry or looking for something different the full Irish breakfast is a good option. I don't like black pudding so they were willing to give me two pieces of white pudding. I would definitely stop here again for breakfast or probably any time of day. read more

First, the good: our waiter was great. Polite and friendly. The fries were delicious. Hot and crispy on the outside the way fries should be. And very thin. Not at all charred. There was something about the ambiance of this Shawn ODonnells that seemed different to the other ones I've been to... it seemed TIRED or something. The patriotic bunting ( I assume it's up in honor of 4th of July next month) was falling down. A customer in the next booth was coughing a lot, a guy walked by our table and farted audibly. I stopped in at Shawn O'donnel's for lunch and had a totally excellent meal. The marbled rye tasted great. The caraway seed was very present and added to the great taste of the bread. The sauerkraut was on point! Tangy and crisp. But, the star of the sandwich, and rightly so, was the corned beef. So tender that it did not resist biting into and it melted in my mouth. All in all, a superb sandwich and a joy to eat! The wait staff was excellent. They didn't hover but always seemed to be available when I needed them. I was thoroughly entertained by the Irish decor. This was my second time visiting Shawn O'Donnell's for breakfast and I must say, they are definitely up there on my list of great places to get brekky in the valley. The vibe here is definitely upscale Irish pub meets farmhouse; an ode, I'm assuming, to the previous establishment that made a legend of itself on the local scene over many decades. Shawn O'Donnell's kept many of the og The Farmhouse elements while making it their own. The morning menu features American-style favorites, and some traditional Irish grub too. They also have a full bar, and offer a brunch buffet on Sundays for just $22/person. On this Saturday morning visit, we shared a farmer's omelet and one of their giant cinnamon rolls. Our server was the sweetest! It was our first time at O'Donells and looked forward to trying their famous fish and chips. Sadly we were 30mins too early for the lunch and opted in for the chicken fried steak and the O Donnell omelette. For the side of potatoes you can order either potato casserole or hash-browns. Chicken fried steak was off the chain. Gravy flavorful and steak crispy, juice and hot. I had the hashbrowns and Irish soda biscuit along with their jam. I don't know how I was living without ever having an Irish soda biscuit. So flavorful, fluffy with a good bite to it and add the jam it's a party in your mouth. Will def make a plan to visit one closer to home so we can try the famous fish and chips. read more

We stayed here as part of the Harvest Host program and had a beautiful sunset in the parking lot. We sat at the bar and John our bartender got us some menus and water. We were in luck as it was Happy Hour! We ordered a couple of beers, clam chowder, Irish poutine and a house salad. The chowder had a great flavor, was "stick to you ribs" thick and had big chunks of clams. The poutine was amazing: French fries were crispy with melty cheese curds and a rich pan gravy. So, we are not from here, but were here for a wedding and it was recommended there was a new Irish restaurant in town. New to town, Shawn O'Donnell's Farmhouse is a lovely new face to an old place! We were greeted with a warm smile by Chastity who, tho quite busy behind the bar, made us feel welcome!! We were seated promptly and had a wee chat with Chastity. We ordered and our food came quick like. We sat and observed the different conversations with local folks as they came in. It seemed that people were pleased by the fact that there were still familiar things on the menu, albeit with a touch of Irish love in every dish. The staff was pleased with the facelift the place has had over the paste year, as well as speaking of the joy of working for the O'Donnell family! Me, my husband, and two good friends meet once or twice a month for lunch at a restaurant that is an equal drive for us. They live in Everett and we live in Bellingham. Today we met at Shawn O'Donnell's in Mount Vernon. My hamburger was served on a pretzel bun and it was delicious Two of our group had the spicy salmon salad and they both thought it was a really tasty meal. Given that this is a chain restaurant in an area that could fairly be described as a restaurant desert, they do a good job when they don't have to because they're the only game around. The entrance can be a little awkward - we've arrived and stood around wondering when someone would acknowledge us. But once seated, our service has always been friendly, suggestive, engaging, and helpful. We love how they print images on the Guinness foam. The parking at this location is substantial. This used to be the Farmhouse Inn, and I have childhood memories of driving out of our way to have a big breakfast and amazing pies. But Shawn O'Donnell's is something to be forgotten. I had their "Famous Fish & Chips" and the only thing they are famous for is bad. I had the 2 piece and only ate 1 piece. The breading is grainy and will scratch your mouth when you eat it. If stale breadcrumbs are your style, then you might enjoy these. Even my 16 yr old son wouldn't eat these. The fries were unseasoned and not good. My son ordered the "Prime Rib Dip" sandwhich and it was more bread than sandwhich. If you like paying a lot for a big roll, then by all means this is your place. Literally no effort was put into this sandwhich, the roll wasn't toasted or buttered or anything, just dry thick french bread with a few slices of meat. Skip this place, even Red Robin or some other mainstream place is better. read more
