Visited Barrio with family recently. It was busy, so we had to wait a bit for a table. Once seated, our friendly waitress served everyone water. Then she took our drink requests. I stuck with the water as I'm kind of on a diet. I didn't look at the in-house taco menu. Instead, I used the build your own menu. I decided to build my own bowl. I requested cod with some salsa and taters. The waitress served tortilla chips and salsa, which we added some guacamole to and munched on for about 30 minutes until our food arrived. When the food arrived, it looked really tasty. The taters in my bowl were spicy and a tad salty. It was a good addition to the bowl and added some uniqueness, as compared to rice. Overall, my bowl was very tasty. I think I'll stick with the in-house menu next time. read more

We had a catering order for my niece's wedding and the delivery apparently came from a corporate location. The ladies who delivered it left us a bit short on food, and when we realized that after they left having set up the buffet, I called the closest barrio to ask for help. Darren, the manager, was unbelievable! He put together the missing food and had it on our table in 40 minutes. First time in this little place in Kent though now. I've been here twice. Both were great experiences with top service, food and beverage quality and flavors. Ambiance: definitely a cool college town vibe. Nice lighting sculptures. A bit of "día de los muertos" design, and contemporary concrete floors. Food: so many options from the make your own tacos. I particularly enjoyed the fish w cabbage and the pork belly. But it's great pick your protein, veggie add ons and sauces. Everything is fresh, flavorful and great use of spices. And you gotta try their guacamole! Drinks: so many speciality drinks. You can't go wrong with your choice or stick with the standard Mexican fav and get yourself a pitcher of margaritas to share with friends. Some fun flavors. Pomegranate and white peach is what we tried. Yep our quad group got 2 pitchers. Both drink and food menu items also have fun and creative names and combos. Service: both times we have friendly, attentive service. But I'm gonna focus on my last visit. I was recently diagnosed with multiple serious food allergies. And I cannot tell you how amazing the server and restaurant manager were to not only inquire ingredients in both food, premade sauces and drinks to assure I didn't get anything that may have had one of my allergens. Please don't come at me to say stay at home. Allergens do not preclude me from being a foodie, wanting a good time out with my hubby or friends, or the opp for someone else to cook. Back to the service. They were detailed and wrote my allergens down, checked w the cook and bartender and read labels. Came back to me and made menu suggestions and even adapted a drink so I could have one. I wish I could remeber the server and managers name (I waited too long to make this post). But THANK YOU! I went to meet up with a few of my friends after work at Barrio. I was really tired and hungry so I wasn't in the best mood. I wasn't really in the mood for a taco or a big meal so I ordered the traditional guac and the loaded potato queso. They both were amazing, as always, especially the loaded potato queso. It is always pretty busy in any Barrio location, but that doesn't typically bother me. Our server was so sweet and kind. I love this place. I am in town dropping off my sister at college and we just got done unpacking her room so we decided to try Barrio! I love the idea of filling out the form and getting to choose what you want and not having to specifically ask for something. Our waiter Ryan was a wonderful guy and was very welcoming and very pleasant and helpful. The walls were decorated really nicely and i love the different skeleton themed decor. A true testament that franchising can result in horrible quality control. After not visiting the Kent location for a while, I opted to give them another shot. Ordered 3 tacos (all 3 with double shells) for carry out, thinking it should be plenty. These tacos were so skimpy on toppings that 3 tacos hardly filled me up. I should've ordered 6. Every single item I added was so skimpy that the top of the tortillas were touching when I unwrapped them. For context and science, I went to the tremont location and ordered 3 similar tacos. They came out so full and generously topped that I couldn't even finish 3. The Kent location absolutely sucks. If you want tacos in Kent, go to Taco Tontos or Mamacitas. Reserve Barrio for Tremont unless you love being disappointed. I hope this location closes so a better food experience can open up. read more

I have never been one to write a nasty review, but if I could give less stars than one I absolutely would. In the past I have had nothing but good experiences with this location, quick service, delicious food, however, on Sunday we had the worst experience. We arrived a little past 11, right when they opened. Our server was lovely, no complaints there. First we got our appetizer, it was ice cold, but we figured maybe it was something they served cold, and it still tasted okay, so we didn't say anything. Then it took us about a half an hour to get our drinks, again not a big deal. Then an additional 30-45 minutes for our food to come out. It comes, and it is also ice cold. I asked the waitress if they could just heat it up for us or bag it to go. She said of course and got the manager who decided to give us about 10 percent off. The manager then brings us our food in separate bags that are stapled shut and have our names on them. This should be the end of the story, but I got home and my food was switched with my friend's. So I called and asked if they would be willing to remake it, they said of course, and that they would issue me a refund. So I go on my lunch hour and I explain the situation to the host and ask if it going to take a long time for you to remake it, I only have an hour for lunch and if it is going to be a long wait I would rather just leave and get something else since I am already getting a refund. She says she will have them rush it. A half an hour later and I still have not gotten my food. I ask, and the girl goes and gets it, but doesn't bring me my drink and says we can go make it, but I have already waited a half hour and I have to leave or I will have no time to eat the remade food. So I bring the food to my car and open it, and it is cold AGAIN. Additionally, my side order of bacon came with one piece instead of the two it is supposed to. And I pulled a massive black hair out of the tacos, my own is blonde so I am confident it is not mine (I'm not sure if I can put pictures in here but trust me that there is one of the massive hair). I will never be returning to this location. I am disgusted and disappointed in Kent Barrio and hope they will do better in the future. read more

This was our first time visiting Cleveland, and after asking a local for some place good to eat, Barrios was an enthusiastic response. We arrived on Saturday, and with a line up out the door, we still got in within 20 minutes. Food has optio s for house/chef specials or build your own tacos. There are many protein choices, and vegan and gluten free. They use a simple checklist that you actually have to fill out, so bring your glasses, if you need them to read. The waitress was new, and didn't even bring us drinks we ordered, and wasn't very helpful with the selection process, but we still enjoyed the experience. It's in a university neighborhood so the patrons are mostly young, and there is an energy in the air there. Loved the food, hope we can see more places like this back home. Cheers. read more

My wife and I visited on a trip thru Kent. First thing we noticed was Psychedelic Furs, big plus. Good music, it's needed to enjoy even better food. My wife got the sampler with Dortmunder beer cheese, chorizo queso and watermelon guacamole. All were very solid, but the guacamole took 1st place. Outstanding. Drinks included had just the right touch of sour and sweetness. Personally I'm a neutral on margaritas, but sassy pineapple made me a believer. Our waitress was so kind and personable. We took in a Saturday morning lunch at barrio of Kent after doing a campus tour. I haven't been in downtown Kent in 25 years and I certainly is a safe and inviting place. It was nice that there was free parking across the street and although I'm not much into college football the game was on and it brought me back to my own college days and an exciting atmosphere. We have the option to either wait for a seat or take the worst table in the restaurant which was the one right by the door. I don't know why restaurants don't do this but for god sakes install the vestibule or windbreak. Every time the door open we were blasted with Frigidaire which required dining with hats and coats on. My wife ordered a mimosa and it looked great she enjoyed it. We're just like any other barrio with filling out what you want on the little sheet of paper. But they actually had a brunch menu which I thought I would give a try. I got a burrito bowl which had eggs salsa potatoes cheese. I also got a taco. The tacos were normal and uneventful no different than the rest of the restaurants. And I'm doing my best to make sure that I eat as hot as I normally do but God dang they put some sort of nuclear salsa in the bottom of this bowl and it lit my face on fire. I normally enjoy salsa that is pretty hot but I'm pretty sure this was some sort of ghost pepper which clearly wasn't disclosed. The irony was is spicy hot as the bowl was the eggs were cold in the cheese was not melted. Really bummed me out on this. Overall aside from freezing it would have been awesome had they made some sort of effort to block all the wind from coming into the restaurant. I have been here multiple times and the service and food is consistent. A party type atmosphere with loud music garage door opens on to the side wall. To order you fill out a sheet and "build" your own taco. This isn't a destination restaurant but it is a good spot if you want a taco and a drink and don't mind the noise. read more

It took her 4 days to reply to THAT and just asked me what my email was. It's been two weeks since and no email or phone call. Why wait 4 days to ask for my email then just not even bother to use it? absolutely laughable. No concept of timeliness. Literally the problem I complained about. All of it is just for show to make it seem like they care. ORIGINAL: Barrio's food is absolutely amazing. HOWEVER... the numerous times I've gone I've never had a warm meal except once. Nearly every time I've gone (even during COVID) I've had to wait anywhere between 40 mins to an hour after ordering just to get my food. I literally don't understand it, I've worked in several restaurants and this is just mind blowing to me how consistent the experience is. There was a time we saw our food waiting in the window but our waitress seemed more preoccupied flirting with other tables to notice. We waited almost 20 minutes after that before she realized our food was sitting there. The manager ended up giving us refunds which was nice but holy shit people. The only thing keeping them afloat is that once you get your food your negative feelings and emotions will generally always evaporate. But it sucks and for that reason I don't care how good the food is. I write this review in hopes management becomes aware of whatever logistics problems they may be facing. I'd like to see Barrio improve. EVEN on door dash. I kept my phone open to watch the order, hoping maybe delivery would be different. Came in from out of town on a recommendations from a friend. We were very excited to try their food and drinks but left very disappointed. We placed orders for drinks and only three out of the four of our drinks were served. One margarita came with a thick layer of salt on the bottom of the glass, literally tasted like salt water. When asked about the missing drink our server said oops i forgot. He then proceeded to forget about the drink for the next 20 minutes, only realizing it was still missing when he came to deliver our food. One member of our party received their order wrong. When she pointed it out to our server they argued with her stating that she must have filled out her form wrong. At the end of our meal we brought it to his attention that we didn't enjoy the drinks and 3 out of the 4 drinks were sitting on the table full. Instead of asking what was wrong on taking the drinks off the bill he said "it be like that" and handed us the card reader to pay. Enjoyed lunch at this place, inside the restaurant. We each ordered 2 tacos and all différents : From chickens, steak to vegetarians. They have the paper to fill up for you to make your own tacos ($3 each) and you can be as creative as you want. We also ordered drinks, margaritas with different flavors. I have been to Cleveland location two times and my experience was somewhat mixed at the time. Heard from a friend that this location opened not too long ago, so decided to give it a try. I went there during happy hour (Mon-Fri 4pm-7pm, $1 off each taco and 50% off selected margaritas and drinks) without knowing, so I was already in a happy lucky guy mood. This place is usually pretty busy, so expect to wait around 10-15min. I got three tacos and definitely recommend the taco that has coca-cola marinated steak in it! Not sure what barrio they got their recipes from but it sure ain't a Mexican barrio. Seriously though, the tacos were horrible. As a Mexican I feel inclined to leave a review. The tortillas aren't heated which is mind boggling to me. Heat= soft tortillas that won't break. My tortillas were breaking with one bite in. Now I know it's DIY but I didn't want to go too crazy. 2 chicken and 1 chorizo taco with just cilantro, onions, and sauce. The chorizo one smelled like straight up vomit. The first chicken one was ok but the second one... I couldn't finish. The smell of the chorizo taco was just too nauseating to enjoy any food after that. Also my husband got a shot of tequila and they rimmed it with sugar instead of salt. Obviously it wasn't good and he was offered another shot. We assumed it was on the house since it was their mistake but then got charged for it. Honestly not too sure how this place is so popular when the food is subpar.
