Have you ever known a furniture store that also serves free meals to everyone, not just customers, but everyone who goes? The mattresses are less in price than the other furniture. Another kindness they provide to the community and customers is the layaway plan. You can place furniture on layaway and pay as long as you need to. I have purchased a number of pieces of furniture here. The prices are competitive and the staff seem knowledgeable. The service could be better; surprising for a small business. If an item is supposed to arrive in 4 - 6 weeks, I would expect Barr's to call the manufacturer near the end of the 6 week period and then call me with an update. That has never occurred. Instead I call at the end of the six weeks. The last time I called to inquire whether my couch had come in, the employee seemed surprised that I might be calling to find out where my furniture was. This is minor, but annoying. They should distinguish themselves from chain furniture stores. read more

We have always had good luck in finding furniture at Barr's Furniture. They have good quality furniture at good prices. The prices may seem high, however, the items they carry are high quality items that last a very long time. This store has been around for ages. I think it must be family run and possibly passed down through the generations. The same way generations of our family have bought furniture from this store. Today we received a desk and a hutch for my daughter to use in her room for doing homework. We had to order the desk from a catalog because it was not carried in stock in their store. It took some time after we ordered it. The delivery people delivered it right to our house and set up the desk and the hutch in my daughters bedroom. It looks great. read more

What an absolutely positive experience shopping here. I have a daughter who is attending UC Riverside who recently got her first place of her own. We needed to get furniture, but had a budget that called fro Ikea or less. We decided to check this store out because it was close to campus. We were able to walk around the store free of the sales person shadow some stores have. After about ten minutes, we found the perfect dresser at a very good price. We then found a salesman (Nick) who asked what it would be for and he proceeded to recommend an even cheaper dresser which was incredibly sturdy. He emphasized that for a college student, durability should take precedent over anything else. I was stunned by how genuinely helpful he was, almost like he was considering what he'd want as a father. We ended up getting a desk to go with the dresser, and even after delivery charges (nominal) it was within budget. We got a high-quality desk and dresser delivered to the exact spot in her room with no assembly on our part. Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy a hex wrench as much as the next person, but not having to read instructions to assemble a 200-piece puzzle that never quite ends up like the picture on the box was more than fine by me. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. If you are a parent with a kid attending UCR who will be living in their own apartment, this should be your first stop. My biggest regret is that we had already bought a mattress from someone else the previous week. Which leads me to the best part of buying from Barr's. Nick called the warehouse to make sure it was in stock and could be stored a ready to go for delivery the next day (our order was placed around 3:00 in the afternoon). My daughter got her furniture at 1:05 the next day (after waiting a whopping five minutes into their two-hour delivery window). What a fantastic experience! read more

Surprised no one has reviewed this place yet-- it's been around for 50 years. Admittedly, the other customers in the store didn't look the yelping type... We wanted recliners so we went to the La-Z-Boy stores-- those stores are impressive in size, but their service was pushy. They kept touting their guarantee, which apparently comes at extra cost (not sure though, they weren't very clear). Frustrated, I called Barr Furniture-- they can order direct from La-Z-Boy and it saves a bunch of money-- I think we saved about $700ish on our sofa and recliner. Was able to call in the order and do everything over the phone, super easy. I live over an hour away, so Barr's delivery would have been expensive ($200, although La-Z-Boy wanted to charge me $150 and I'm not far from them...) so we picked it up ourselves. Browsed the rest of the store while we were there and they definitely have some quality lifetime furniture-- and they have some of the cheaper stuff too. They said they can order anything I see at Ashley furniture but at a cheaper price. The service was great, they told us all about the La-Z-Boys, how to maintain them, how to take them apart to get them in our front door, and to call them if anything goes wrong(the store has a guarantee on top of the La-Z-Boy guarantee.) Even though it's far, I think I'll only buy furniture from them from now on. read more

I was looking for a new La-Z-Boy rocker recliner and Barrs Furniture is THE ultimate store to shop for them! The store is tastefully arranged with beautiful furniture and accessories and they have a large room dedicated to La-Z-Boy. There are about 100, yes really, 100 recliner chairs on the showroom floor to sample and Crystal, the sales lady who came to assist us knew the products totally. She is friendly and helpful never pushy or impatient. I tried out several chairs and Crystal was able to answer all my questions without consulting a manual. After the purchase we arranged for delivery the next day and they delivered as promised a new chair from their huge warehouse, not a floor sample. They unpacked and assembled the chair outside and carried in and placed it where we wanted it then took all the packaging with them when they left.
