Of the 4 Southern California prominent cataract surgeons that I have consulted with for cataract surgery on my right eye, - Dr. Seibel is the most impressive and the most helpful. He authored in entirety a textbook on cataract surgery which has gone through 5 editions, he has patented 20 tools for cataract surgery, and he is a professor. At no time did he push surgery, and he even mentioned other surgeons who could also do a good job. In addition to telling me about the intra ocular lens that he recommends for me at this time (i.e. the Symfony), he also told me that I might want to wait for the PureSee iol which will be available late in 2026. Also he told me that I have an eye tearing deficiency that merits being addressed. No other cataract surgeon (of the other 3 that I visited) detected this issue. Dr Barry Seibel Absolutely brilliant! Who isn't nervous about eye surgery? I wanted to be able to drive at night , read street signs again and stop scrunching my eyes to read when my glasses weren't handy. ( The latter was causing a horrible pain which disappeared within no time after surgery)Additionally, I wanted to stop wearing glasses - for reading or driving. Dr. Seibel seems to divide his time/practice in two locations, and did my first (of two) cataract surgery at the Pacific Vision Surgery Center in S.F. He and his colleague Ella Faktorovich at Pacific Vision Institute (S.F.), coordinate. He is awesome--I lucked out in getting such a skilled, seasoned surgeon. I have a very high rx. And after going to one surgeon who was pessimistic, ended up going to Dr. Seibel for a second opinion. He oozes confidence and has a matter of fact, no nonsense style. He's been doing this for so long and is a pioneer in the methods, as well as teaching it, he likely could do the surgery in his sleep lol :-) I love that he schedules a follow-up appointment a few hours after the surgery on the same day--it reassures me that we're on track. And he schedules another follow-up a week after that. Because I opted for LAL (light adjustable lenses), I'll be getting more UV treatment tweaking and am super hopeful and excited about the entire process. Dr. Barry Seibel is a gem of a surgeon. I had two cataract/ lens replacement surgeries this past June and the outcome has been absolutely fantastic. I am happy I went to the best, as my eyesight in both eyes is now 20/20! For close to ten years, I had been seeing Dr. Seibel for general checkups, and always found him to be professional and kind. He never pressured me for any kind of treatment and always gave me an honest assessment of my eyes. But after not seeing him for 2 years during Covid, I found that I was a candidate for cataract surgery. Several months ago I had cataract surgery and lens replacement (very expensive). I felt Seibel was rude, quick tempered. Not all well after the surgery I had an aggravating, felt like something in my eye. he refused to discuss this with me and tell me what I should do he just let me at the door without saying goodbye or thank you or shaking my hand wishing me good luck just took me out of the door and there I went. Dr. Seibel performed cataract surgery on my left eye yesterday. Everything went very well. Surgery was quick and painless and after 24 hours there has been no discomfort...I couldn't be more pleased. The facility that he used was Specialty Surgery Center at 9001 Wilshire in Bevery Hills and everyone there was terrific. He took an eye with a cataract that I've had developing since 1970 and gave it 201/15 distance and mid-range vision, and I can even read newsprint with it! It's a virtual match for the other eye. Made an appointment to see Dr. Seibel. His nurse/ receptionist fitted me in to and told me to come at 10.15am. After eating for about an hour and a half I was seen by a not her assistant who checked my vision and asked me questions about my eyes. He the took me to a sitting area where some other patients were waiting to see Dr. Seidel. It was now almost two hours later and I asked when the Doctor would see me. I was told there were four patients in front of me. I went the front desk and told the nurse/receptionist the I could not wait any longer and asked if I could see Dr. Seibel later or another day. Well she verbally pounced at me saying: I WAS FITTED IN AS A FAVOR. DO I UNDERSTAND THEY ARE NOT AN EMERGENCY ROOM. Shocked I thanked her for fitting me in and advised her that at no time did I think the office was an emergency room. How.could she make such a ridiculous and insulting comment. She told me to wait a minute and the next thing Dr. Seidel came out and directed me into one of the examination rooms. I thanked him for coming to see me. He sat down told me I had upset his staff member. I explained to him what happened and he reiterated that the office was NOT AN EMERGENCY ROOM. At this stage I was angry and disgusted at his behavior. I walked out of the office without any examination. I am very, very disappointed at both of the attitudes. Even more so at Dr Seibel. My regular doctor was out, so I saw Dr. Seibel. He was rude and arrogant. he prescribed medication for pink eye, which cost 200 dollars. I called and asked about a cheaper medication, and was told there was none. When it failed to help, I was told by another doctor I had no symptoms of pink eye. Called Dr. Seibel, and was told he knew that, but prescribed the medication just in case.....Maybe 200 dollars is nothing to him, but it was for me. Ridiculous and unfortunate experience. My husband and I, as well as other family members, have been Dr. Seibel's patients for many years. He has been meticulous and thorough about providing medical care from basic eye checkups to eye surgery. After cataract surgery, another opthalmic surgeon examined my husband's eyes (for a separate reason). He said that Dr. Seibel's surgical work was excellent, that the incisions were perfect, and the eyes had healed properly. As a patient of Dr. Seibel's, he follows up to make sure that any issue is resolved. On occasion, an extra follow up visit or prescribed medication felt a little excessive, but in retrospect it demonstrates how much he cares about his patients. He wants to get it right. Be absolutely 100% sure EXACTLY what your insurance covers. Even if seibel says "your insurance covers this" ... you must double check, triple check, check check check BEFORE you get it done. I was under the impression that I did NOT have to pay anything out of pocket because they never gave me a bill, or told me anything I did cost a thing every time I was at the office. Every time I left the office, they did nothing to inform me about any charges. I only went in twice and 3 weeks later they sent me a $500 bill!! WHAT?!?!?!? Never coming back .... I had an accommodative lens put 11 years ago made by Bausch and Lomb called Crystalens HD. Dr. Seibel did an excellent surgery and there were no complications. Not only did all the color come back completely balanced, but I had a very satisfactory result being able to read at around 8" and I could see very sharply at a distance of 8" to infinity without any breaks of sharpness or focus. I think it was the best vision for my right eye that I have ever had, even with previously wearing glasses. Recently I felt it was time to do my left eye, which was reasonably sharp, but was now seeing a deeper color tone of sepia brown and some halo affects with night driving. Once again with Dr. Seibel we opted to use a slightly more advanced version of the Crystalens lens. Dr. Seibel and his technician do a fantastic pre-eye exam, they check for all of the eye diseases, and see what the best fit for my eyes. Luckily I was a great candidate for the Crystalens lens once again. After the first exam, the second exam was to do a very precise measurement of my eye and was told that a laser incisions just before the removal of the cut cataract was advised as this allowed the doctor to more accurately make the incisons which guarantee better placement of the lens. Results of this new lens worked beautifully with my right eye and both eyes were working very well together. Dr. Seibel is a extremely good doctor, who will answer any questions about your eyes and choices of what lens is best choice for the individual. You are not rushed in out of the office. The exams are time consuming and extremely thorough. The office is immaculate and the office staff is very helpful. Dr. Seibel is an inventor of many tools used for these procedures. In my opinion he is an expert surgeon and watches over you for a total of four post operative visits. One has to be careful with some doctors, that do not really consult well with the patients, they might not discuss all of the choices of the proper or best lens for them. Several friends has this experience and were very unhappy with their doctors. A few did not want one eye good for reading and one for a specific sharpness at a certain distance. The crystalens iI understand requires more expertise on the doctors part and not everyone can be fitted to one. I do not work for Bausch and Lomb, but I just love my two eyes seeing perfectly once again. read more

I cannot imagine a more expert, caring, or patient physician or surgeon. The thought of cataract surgery was especially intimidating to me because I only have one good eye, and it was the subject of the surgery. Dr. Seibel was outstanding from the diagnosis stage through post-op and follow-up. He was careful to explain the process thoroughly, answer all of my questions, and walk me through the process. His staff was also outstanding throughout. The surgery itself was brief, about five to ten minutes, completely painless, and handled with the utmost professionalism. I was able to see immediately after the surgery and had no residual pain whatsoever. My eyesight had been declining significantly as a result of the cataract. Because of Dr. Seibel's skill, I now have 20/20 eyesight for distance and 20/15 for reading. This means that my eyesight is significantly better than at any time in my life. The results are amazing and transformational. I do not have words to adequately express my appreciation for what Dr. Seibel has done for me. It should also be noted that I checked into his reputation with other eye surgeons, including within the academic community. His reputation is sterling.
