I had cataract surgery in with Dr. Devgan last month and I can now add my 5-star review to his many other glowing reviews. I have a lazy eye (amblyopia) which means I only have one good eye. I was apprehensive about doing the surgery so I did many hours of research and had consultations with other highly reputable surgeons. But I found that none of them came close to Dr. Devgan in terms in knowledge and experience. After all, he is The Cataract Coach and has performed over 40,000 surgeries, including many for other ophthalmologists. Plus he spent a great deal of time during my consultation reviewing my images taken in his office, discussing lens options, explaining the surgery process, and patiently answering my many questions. Dr. Devgan loves what he does and his passion is evident when you meet with him. Additionally, everyone on his staff is very pleasant and professional. And Dr. Devgan gives his patients his email and cell number so we can contact him with any questions. I texted him on three occasions and he responded immediately! And in each case, he gave me very thorough answers to my questions. It was very comforting to know that he was always just a text away. I don't know of any other doctor who is so available to their patients. Dr Devgan recommended the Alcon Vivity in both eyes for me and my surgeries went well with no issues. They were both quick and painless and everything went smoothly at the Surgical Center. He came over and talked to me before I went into the operating room which I appreciated. I am very happy with the results. I requested the focus be set at near/intermediate, and I was OK wearing glasses for distance. I use a mild reader for fine print, my intermediate is perfect, and my distance is better than I expected. I can drive in the daytime without glasses, so I just I need them for driving at night. And there is very minimal halos and glare at night; much less than before surgery. I feel very fortunate to have had Dr. Devgan as my surgeon. Dr. Devgan is the best! I have nanophthalmic eyes with narrow angles and oxygen damage and one laze eye all due to being a 2 lb. preemie born at 28 weeks 62 years ago. I was extremely farsighted (+13 & +13.5 in contact lenses) and have worn correction since under a year old. When my eyes started rejecting contact lenses, I moved from gas perms to toric soft lenses. My vision couldn't be corrected better than 20/40. When the soft lenses started to be an issue and I couldn't drive at night. I began researching lens replacement over 10 years ago. I went to 6 specialty surgeons all over the country for consultations and all told me they couldn't help me. One of those doctors referred me to Dr. Devgan. I flew to LA from South Carolina to consult with Dr. Devgan. He seemed confident that he cold help me. I went home and started researching everything I could think of. Not only am I extremely risk averse, I also was afraid of losing the little vision I had. I emailed Dr. Devgan all kinds of questions. He patiently and kindly responded to all of them with his opinions and knowledge. He eventually thought we should schedule a Zoom call so we could discuss the surgery further. He put all my fears at ease and I scheduled to first eye. I still can't believe I actually did it. From my understanding, traditional math used to calculate lens power doesn't work on short eyes, so Dr. Devgan has his own calculation. The next day after that surgery, I was able to easily read the 20/20 line on the eye chart. We went back home and prepared to have the other eye done a month later. He wanted me to wait, so he could calculate how the lens settled on my eye. He also had me get a refraction on that eye, so he could take it into consideration when calculating the other eye. I ended up with a +36 lens in my left eye. After the refraction, he determined that I could have a +33 in my right eye, which allowed him to use a toric lens. I am seeing so well. It is the most amazing thing. I wake up and can see. I'm afraid that I'm gonna stick my finger in my eye, because I am so programmed to think if I can see before going to bed, I have to remove my contacts. I also don't have to panic if I can't find my glasses (which were very thick and magnified) and carry extras in my cars, just incase. I recently saw the news about Dr Devgan performing the first human robotic procedure. As usual, it seems Dr Devgan continues to be at the forefront of the field of cataract surgery. He performed my cataract surgery a little over a year ago. Mine was a complicated case because of my retinopathy (I am 69), but in Dr Devgan's magic hands the surgery went flawlessly and the outcome was perfect. I still can't believe how much my quality of life has improved. My husband recently had his Posterior Polar Cataracts (PPC) successfully removed by Dr Devgan. We couldn't be happier with the results! Unlike me (who had suffered from awful vision / clunky glasses / irritating contacts since I was in grade school) -- my husband was (annoyingly) blessed with 20/20 vision for most of his life. But in recent years, he started going from optometrist to optometrist prescribing stronger and stronger reading glasses for what they assumed to be presbyopia. Finally, after realizing there might be a larger issue at play, we booked an appointment with ophthalmologist who successfully diagnosed the issue as a rare form of congenital cataracts (PPC). Unfortunately, when he did, he also said it was a risky surgery, and one that he would not want to perform. Instead, he recommended us to Dr Devgan, who he said had successfully performed more of these surgeries than anyone he knew in the field. We met with Dr Devgan - and a month later, both my husband's eyes have successfully been treated and he has near perfect vision again (grrrr ha). Here are a few things that we liked about the experience: Dr Devgan is the real deal -- his success rate in this field is incredible. He was happy to go through the risks and their probabilities (which are significantly lower than the industry numbers we read online) and about what the worst-case scenarios could look like. My husband was skeptical at the outset as, while his cataracts were annoying, he wasn't prepared to risk his eyesight to remove them given the failure rates that we had read online. Having listened to him, we were completely reassured and booked the surgery for the following Monday. Dr Devgan explained complex details of my husband's condition and the treatment in very simple terms and if we had any further concerns or questions, he gave us his personal cell to call at any time. He has posted a host of information and videos online detailing anything you might want to know about your condition and the treatment. The surgery was completely painless - we mean ZERO pain. And the whole thing took 5-10 minutes in the operating theatre and my husband was home 30 mins after that. Everything was quick and efficient -- 1-2 days lead time for the initial consultation organized by the uber-friendly office staff. After the initial consultation, we scheduled surgery within a week for the first eye and then the second eye a few weeks after that. Recovery time was fast - my husband was back to working at my PC within an hour or two and while the sight in the operated eye was slightly blurry that afternoon - by the next morning, his eyesight was perfect. Before I met with Dr. Uday Devgan, I spent over two years using every eye drop brand on the market that claimed to cure cataracts. Unfortunately nothing worked and my cataracts got worse. The first cataract ophthalmology doctors I consulted did not explain the different types of lenses and how they work. I wanted to understand the types of lenses that were on the market and how they would benefit me. Luckily I found Dr. Devgan's extremely helpful youtube.com videos and all my questions were answered. Now that 2 months have passed since my cataract surgery, I must say, I could not be happier. The precision of selecting the proper implanted lenses for my eyes was from Dr. Devgan's extensive experience. Aside from removing my natural cataract affected lenses, my goal was to be able to read without glasses and see distance pretty clearly. I had been a contact lense wearer for distance, plus I had astigmatism. The Dr prescribed the perfect balance for me to accommodate both near and distant vision clarity. I was super nervous about getting cataract surgery and put it off for years. When my eyesight got to a point that I could not take it any more, I did a lot of research and found Dr. Uday Devgan while viewing cataract surgeries on you tube. He has a you tube channel called The Cataract Coach" that is really for ophthalmologist to learn from, but to me it was fascinating and I really feel in love with his bedside manner and found that he is one (if not the top) surgeons in the country. Opthamologists will go to him for their own surgeries. He is considered a Dr.'s doctor. He is retired now from teaching at UCLA but is still active in many surgical conferences, teaching other Dr.s etc. He is an amazing instructor, look up his videos! I can imagine he was a beloved instructor for his residents. He has also designed surgical instruments that are used in opthamologic surgeries. Dr. Devgan works out of his private practice in Beverly Hills and a state of the art surgical center nearby to his office. Dr. Devgan was on the other side of the country for me but - it was worth every bit of the trip and effort to come out to California for the surgeries. Your eyesight is for the rest of your life! My local East Coast Opthamologist / Retina specialist is looking forward to checking on my success when I return and is interested in possibly going to him as well ! Dr. Devgan is one of the kindest & most compassionate doctors I have known. He took great care of me, twice. I had two cataracts, in 2018 and 2024. He & his staff are wonderful, helpful, and go above and beyond expectations. What really wowed me about Dr. Devgan was the care he provided my husband, who almost died from a heart infection and numerous complications. One of those complications was developing two horrible cataracts and he could barely see. With his oxygen tank in tow, we went to see Dr. Devgan. His compassionate care for my husband, back in 2017, is still vivid. So much so that when I found out I had a 2nd cataract, I had only one doctor I would call and that was Dr. Devgan. I was referred to Dr. Devgan because cataract surgery in my right eye by another doctor failed. I was extremely worried and distressed. Dr. Devgan rescued me and restored my sight. He placed a "piggyback" lens on my right eye that fully corrected the previous doctor's error. A week later he performed cataract surgery in my left eye that was also a resounding success. Don't waste your time going elsewhere, I did all the homework for you. I am blind in one eye, and had a bad cataract in the other. When you only have one good eye, they advise to wait as long as you can, in case something goes wrong in the procedure, and you risk being totally blind. SO, I did hours of research online. I have a handful of friends and relatives that have had cataract surgery in the last year or so. They all had high recommendations for their doctors, they felt their procedures were successful (but all experienced some minor issues). However, I still did the homework. Someone once said: "If you want to get an A, do your homework". I got lucky. This man is the best of the best. He's done over 20,000 cataract surgeries, and that's all he does. Dr. Devgan did a fantastic job on my right eye and I can see 20/20. I have complicated eye issues- prior lasik in 1999 that regressed, wet macular degeneration in the left eye, PCO in the left eye. Another surgeon did my left eye and due to lasik, we got intermediate instead of distance. So I flew from the San Francisco Bay Area to see Dr. Devgan for a second opinion. I loved his wonderful bedside manner, patience and willingness to address all of my concerns. So I decided to have him do my right eye surgery. My vision was altered surgically by an eye surgeon who misdiagnosed my eye problem and proceeded to surgically implanted the WRONG INTRAOCULAR LENS. Not only was the wrong lens implanted but also the wrong power of the lens that my eye needed. After this initial surgery to remove my cataract, my vision became worse. I could not see clearly at all. My vision was blurry and the first surgeon had no idea how to fix the problem. After a series of further tests I was then led to believe that there was "nothing" that could be done. NOT TRUE. After contacting Dr. Devgan's office and getting a "same day" appointment (his staff being so nice and realizing the angst I was going through), Dr. Devgan diagnosed the problem right away and gave me a solution. I already had a Symphony lens in my other eye, but this lens caused me a lot of misery with Glare and Halos. I came to see him because I needed a better lens option and outcome.
