I have used him on multiple occasions, and he just keeps exceeding my expectations every time. One particular job I remember was when I had a four-floor flood at a hospital, and the water was over four inches deep. He got his team out to me within an hour and worked 10-hour days until the problem was resolved. Fortunately, his quick response saved me thousands of dollars in repairs that would have been required due to the standing water. Barry is my hero! Tenants moved out of our rental house taking their two dogs with them, but leaving behind the WORST dog odor ever - not urine, just dog odor. We have since learned (from Barry) that certain breeds have coats that contain a lot of odor causing oils. Our tenants had the carpet cleaned by another company when they moved, which essentially made things worse. After initially being advised that we would likely need to replace the ONE YEAR old carpet.... Barry to the rescue!!! His crew re-cleaned the carpet, removing 80-90% of the offensive odor and the house is currently receiving his ozone treatment to remove the remaining 10-20%. Barry's cleaned my carpets yesterday, and as usual, the job was outstanding. They are quick, friendly and neat. I rarely write yelp reviews but after using their service probably 5 to 6 times, I would recommend them in a heatbeat. My light carpets always look so much better afterwards and this time they paid attention to some darker areas that collect under the closet doors at corners. Ok, I ended up having a not so good experience with Barry's... I called to ask about having a large, expensive and well-made (LL Bean) bolster dog bed cleaned. I had it done a few years ago at Barry's for $65. This time he wanted $250 and said he'd rather me just take it somewhere else. We were in the process of moving so I was rushed and willing to pay this crazy high price; however, the rude attitude was a turn off. I don't think I'd use them again or recommend them. Sad how one bad experience can ruin a good thing. I don't appreciate being talked to rudely. I even asked for a referral and pretty much got hung up on. Ok, everyone can have a bad day, but at the same time it would make me feel foolish to call again and get rudely treated again! Once bit, twice shy! :( read more

My rating is actually 3.5, but I decided to put 4 here since we can't give half stars. The customer service here is excellent! I would give it 5 stars for service alone. Every person I interacted with on the phone and in person was helpful, patient, seemingly honest, and very friendly. I needed 2 small (4x6) area rugs cleaned, and they said if I brought the rugs to their store it would save me a bit, so I did that. They have very limited/unpredictable store hours. When they are busy, they may send everyone out, so no one is at the store. Make sure you call in advance to see if there is someone there. I wanted the most basic cleaning possible, as these rugs were not of much value to me. I ended up paying $55, which I felt was still a bit expensive. They were upfront about the cost though. They called me when it was ready to be picked up. Unfortunately they called on a Thursday at 5pm, which is after hours, so I couldn't pick it up then. Friday, when I stopped by the store, no one was there. However, I called Barry's cell, which is on the store's voice message, and he provided me with another person's cell. He was very reassuring and said it would happen somehow. I was nervos, but luckily, as I was about to give up, another employee showed up to drop something off at the store, so I was able to quickly get my rugs and pay then. They do accept credit cards. Advice: If possible, clean your carpets/rugs in the winter. They are very busy in the summer. read more

I have lived on the Peninsula for 30+ years and have been through a plethora of Upholstery Cleaners...But have never had the great attention to detail and service that I received from Barry's. There was an actual person who picked up the phone which was my first good indication (because really, do they ever call you back and if so it's weeks or months later). I told him I had been remodeling and I needed my furniture cleaned faster than I thought because the floors were done sooner than expected and he was here two days after on time, all equipment, no questions, hymmmss or haawwws and just got to it and while I watched his crew clean, they were explaining me the process of how different stains show and why and a bit of a chemistry lesson on this subject. Overall I will never call another person locally to do my carpet or upholstery cleaning...he even is doing my lampshades! I live out in the country, so it is often difficult to get services...but this company was incredible. His son, Brian, met me and we caravanned out to my place (on a dirt road). The carpets in this rental had not been cleaned in 15 years, since the last tenant moved in. I really thought I would have to tear them out - but Brian worked like a hero and they look brand-new! As I am a new resident to the Monterey Peninsula, I had originally called Coit Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning Services, of Burlingame CA; as I have been a customer of their company for many years, even when living in Washington State. I was sorry to find out due to the heavy traffic patterns in the Bay Area region, they were no longer servicing the area. So I looked on Yelp and found Barry's Carpet Service Inc. The company came to the home I am renting and cleaned in-house the two existing white sofas that were definitely in-need of cleaning and I arranged to send in three Create and Barrel area rugs, to be cleaned at their where house, where a more extensive process can be preformed by machine . These three rugs were 1) 9x12,2) 8x10 3) 5x8. as the rugs were to be taken to their shop, the gentleman responsible for cleaning the two white sofas, stated that I could pay the invoice in full upon delivery of the rugs. When the sofas dried, I was not satisfied with the work done and I called the company to ask if they could pick-up the cushions and re-touch them as well at the where house. When the three rugs and the two sofa cushions were returned the owner Barry and his son came personally, to again touch-up the bodies of the white sofas. They indeed were improved from the original attempt of cleaning them and I was satisfied they the job was well done. Then I was presented with a staggering bill of $1,581.00 WHAT...???? I was am still am horrified. I have lived in very large homes that have had wall to wall carpeting that the cleaning of such would cost between seven to eight hundred dollars but never such an amounts for cheap area rugs and old dirty sofas ! I have had large antique area rugs professionally hand cleaned and yes,, I have paid invoices for such labor intensive work but this was a complete rip-off. The Monterey Peninsula area, as the owner Barry boosted... "was filled with great wealth" maybe so, and maybe so, that he is use to charging with ever number he comes up with... but I was stunned. I paid one half the invoice, as I sincerely told him I could not afford to pay the company in full. So will send another payment this along with a note... as time has past and the rugs have completely dried... the stains are back ! I would not use this company again and if I were you, I would look elsewhere... read more
