Called ahead to schedule a service. Was informed they were closed on Saturdays but the person I spoke on the phone with assured he would meet me between 9-10am to perform my requested service. I arrived at 930, the cleaning crew said the owner had not arrived. I waited until 1030 and left disappointed. Was further disappointed by the cleaning crew's actions as I waited in my car. They would use the long driveway as a drag strip and continued to rev their truck engine high and speed through the driveway with no concern for the other vehicles (including mine) parked there. read more

!!!!CAR OWNERS BEWARE!!!! Read reviews and gave this shop a call to make sure they were able to work on BMW's. I got the the thumbs up and told of course. Took my vex hole to the shop and wait for service from, Pierro. Pierro came back and let me know exactly what was needed and that he would take care of my vehicle with no worries. ONE MONTH later I find out that BARRY took over the work on my car because he's the boss and does as he pleases. Didn't take care of my vehicle ONE MONTH later with me calling continuously and always receiving excuses of why it's not finished. Picked up my vehicle for leaks ( the reason I brought my vehicle in ) I got back a dead car ( new battery from BMW installed weeks prior ), a filthy car, a terrible vibration from the exhaust ( NEVER there before ), screws not replaced or not screwed back down and still OIL LEAKS when returning home with this vehicle after being told " after all the codes are reset that it would smooth out and wait for the engine light to go off which didn't make any sense of why the vehicle was shaking so much. BARRY mentioned that if there are any problems to just bring it back mind you I work out of town and picked up the vehicle on a Friday. Friday evening the light remained on and also find that there is a oil spot, hey after a month you think the problem you PAID for would be FIXED. Monday returned the vehicle AGAIN to have no one contact me for weeks about what's going on with the car so I would say that's ONE MONTH / TWO WEEKS. Do you think you would want them working on your vehicle? Good luck!!! Two weeks later I received a phone call from the nice manager Marcos that a clamp was needed ( I ONLY HAD AN OIL LEAK PROBLEM) but oh a clamp is needed to help with the rough shake of the vehicle that was NEVER there before. More $$$ you don't say. Picked up the vehicle the third week later and NO the oil is still leaking and engine light again???? I called in and I was at this time highly upset that you have your name on a shop and REFUSE the workers who can actually get the job done to work on cars. I left my car with Pierro and Pierro was never able to do the work. I told the manager and Barry himself I did not want him working on my car ONLY Pierro and do you know what he did. Completely ignored me and did the work again that he never fixed and continued to abusive my vehicle. This is now TWO months later and the oil is still leaking and I said enough is enough after he said he finally found out what it was like the 1st, 2nd, and now 3rd time. Oh, a whole NEW problem that will cost more money . I hope you take caution if you decided to still have work done on your vehicle at this shop. We end up taking it to BMW CRITZ and haven't had any issues because it was a vacuum pump leak. He just ripped us off. Then refused to refund any of our money back. Not to mention while we were also in the shop and other customers were returning their vehicles for a leak that was repaired and back to leaking again. read more

I have been a customer of Barry's for over 10 years and will continue as long as I drive. I came upon his service station when Midas wanted to charge me $800.00 for exhaust work (that was not needed) and through frustration and probably tears, I stopped in and his crew showed me what was actually needed and did the repairs for $700.00 less!! You don't see the words trust and mechanic in the same sentence normally, but I use the phrase when I refer to my mechanic. I've had extensive work on my Honda completed after others fouled up severely to regular maintenance issues. If it can't be fixed, they will let you know. Even though I've only been to Barry's once, I would definitely go again for work on my car. It's a long story but the Midas on White Bluff totally botched a catalytic converter replacement. 4 times I had it back to them to fix it but they never could. I came to the conclusion that the "technician" I got stuck with was incompetent. Not to sound like a jerk or be judgmental, but the guy at Midas had ALL gold teeth. Very unprofessional looking in my humble opinion. I took the car to Savannah Tire on Abercorn where I explained the series of events to the service writer (he was a big guy), who I found to be very rude, told me that they could not fix it there because it involved welding but he did give call Barry's and give them a heads up and told me to go there. Not only was everyone at Barry's very nice but they fixed my car up good ! Sounds just like it did before the cat gave out. By the way, I think it was Shane (?) told me that the weld job that Mr. Goldteefs at Midas did a horrible job, to the point that he said (paraphrasing) that the guy shouldn't be welding at all, he was that bad. Jim from the Midas on Ogeechee Rd had read the comment I put up on Midas' comment board and he did offer to fix it but at that time I had already taken the car to Barry's. Thanks Jim , I appreciated the offer and that you cared. So Barry's gets a big 5 star from me. Good solid work that has lasted well over a month and I expect it to continue to last for a good long while. Oh, and the price for the welding was more than reasonable considering all the aggravation I had gone through at Midas. read more

Barry's Muffler and Brake is where I take all of my families vehicles for anything mechanical and for all maintenance. His staff are knowledgeable and professional. They do what they tell you they are gonna do when they tell you they are gonna do it. My wife recently had an emergency and her car needed a quick repair before she could take care of her mom. Barry and his crew dropped what they were doing to immediately take care of her. For that alone they truly earned five stars! Definitely one of best auto repair shops in the low country. Barry has a great reputation with the local hot rod community as well and some of the cars he has built are phenomenal! After three 1 hour trips to Barry's muffler my exhaust is still leaking and because it was done done wrong 3 times. The exhaust has caused more problems with my 2017 Jeep. The exhaust was placed to close to the vapor canister and now melted a hole in it. Barry's has yet to refund my money or offered to fix the other problems. Anyway, I recently went there with an exhaust issue to be fixed (had gotten punctures in the manifold and the catalytic converter), and I was quite astonished to have it returned to me a mere 24 hours later even though they had to order a part from a neighboring city, sounding a million times better! read more

I read the reviews on here and decided to take my car to Barry's to get work done on a turbo leak which was making a bit of noise. I asked that the leak be found and fixed. I was told the car would be ready that week, dropped off on Wednesday and rented a car until Friday hoping it would be done. Well, communication was poor and I had to keep calling back for status. Before I knew it, he had called me and sold me an X-pipe exhaust on top of the repair to make the car sound better. He told me there were a bunch of exhaust leaks in the piping and all were fixed. At this point, he told me that the turbo had to be removed and gaskets made which were taking up time. I picked the car up after a week and it was still making the same noise and I was out $625 , but at least I had the new exhaust on it which was supposed to be AFTER the repair. At this point he told me there was a seal between the hot side and cold side of the turbo which was leaking and needed to be taken back apart and resealed. I didn't have time to leave the car at that time, so I rescheduled for when I would be out of town the following week. I dropped the car off on Monday as we agreed and was going to pick it up Wednesday. Wednesday morning I called to see what time it would be ready, and work was not started yet. I told them to stop work and don't touch the car. Well, I get back in town and go to pick it up around 3 and the car is apart and they are working on it. The mechanic then showed me that they didn't need to reseal the turbo, there was actually just a bolt missing on the flange. I'm not sure how they missed this the first time. Anyhow, I was out another $300 and my car had a considerable number of scratches on the passenger mirror and driver quarter panel, as well as the driver door edge. I paid and left to get my car back and not get into trouble because I was so upset with them at the time. I wrote a letter and asked for a partial refund as they basically charged me 2x for the same repair which they missed the first time , which was not my fault. They never responded and it has been at least a month since I mailed the letter, hence the yelp review to share my experience. I will not go back there. They need to do it right the first time and take better care of customers cars, as well as keep you updated on status and keep their promise on when the car will be done. I was very patient with them and left disappointed and overcharged. read more

I called Barry's Shop and spoke to Shane. He is the best mechanic in the world in my opinion. I needed to replace my exhaust manifold on my 65 Galaxie. No one else would take the time to do it, due to the fact that they might break a stud off in the head. Shane, on the other hand, took his time and completed the job withing a few hours. He gave me the best quote and stuck with the price. I hate to drive 45 minutes to get a service done, but it is worth it. I will continue to take my vehicle to Barry's Muffler & Brake Center on Staley Avenue. You won't be disappointed. read more

After searching and searching all over Savannah for years, I have finally found someone that I know I can honestly depend on and trust when it comes to my car! Elizabeth, the receptionist, was so helpful and kind! There is nothing more stressful than having to work on your car, so Elizabeth's courtesy and warm personality really helped ease my anxiety of getting it fixed. Not only was Elizabeth awesome, but as soon as I got there with my car, Barry pulled it right into the shop and began looking at it and troubleshooting without any delay! Furthermore, after a previous mechanic stated my muffler needed to be replaced and would cost me almost a grand (that's right a grand!) to fix, Barry informed me that it wasn't even close to being that much and the muffler wasn't even the problem! Barry could have easily did what the last mechanic did and charge me way way too much, but he was honest. Lastly, he had my car completely finished (replaced exhaust fabrication and welding, replaced cat converter, replaced flex pipe, AND replaced my entire oil pan bc the bottom of it had rusted out) in 24 HOURS! The previous mechanic said it would take him several days or up to two weeks. Savannah has never been an easy town to find a great and trust-worthy and time/cost efficient mechanic, but all my stress and worries can rest easy now because I found Barry's! read more
