This review is longgg overdue. I heard about Barry's years ago and have always been curious to try it out. Fortunately, a studio opened up in the Pearl District. I have tried all kinds of group fitness classes and have had memberships to different types of gyms/studios, so trust me when I say, Barry's is just NEXT LEVEL!!! It is also the most expensive gym membership I've ever paid for. LOL! But if you put in the work, it's definitely worth it. The workouts can be a bit intimidating, especially for those new to these types of group exercises. I remember feeling like I was gonna fall off the treadmill during my first workout, but after attending how many ever classes, I was able to get the hang of it. Prior to Barry's, I'd lift weights at the local gym, but it got boring and I lost the motivation to go. There's just something about working out alongside other people with similar GOALS. TRAINERS - The trainers are AMAZING. I can always count on them to give me that much-needed energy boost during a 5:15 AM workout. I usually walk in a half-asleep zombie and I come out feeling alive, soaked in my own sweat, and awake AF. This is all thanks to the trainers and their high-energy, motivational speeches, and also the endorphins from their well-thought-out workouts. WORKOUTS - You either start on the treadmills (CARDIO/ENDURANCE) or the floor (STRENGTH TRAINING), depending on the spot you chose/that's assigned to you. Or if you're not up for running, you can do what they call a "DOUBLE FLOOR" and not have to step on a treadmill during the entire workout. Based on what the trainer has in store for the class, the workout is split between 2 or 3 rounds, switching from treadmills to the floor and vice versa. So for example, if there are 2 rounds, it'll go like... Round 1: Treads - Floor, Round 2: Treads - Floor. The class ends with a few stretches to relieve the muscles. STUDIO/STAFF/AMENITIES - The studio is well-maintained and is always clean. The staff is friendly and accommodating. There is a juice/smoothie bar where you can order a protein smoothie so it's ready for you after your workout. The front of the studio is lined up with Barry's swag, clothes, and accessories for sale. There are plenty of lockers to store your valuables and the bathroom & showers are always pretty clean. All in all, Barry's makes exercising fun. When I travel, I'm always looking to see if there is a Barry's studio nearby. The workouts are intense and challenging, but what you put in your workout is what you get out of it. I especially love the little challenges they have where you'd have to do 10 or 20 classes a month. If you complete the challenge, there's always a sweet prize like online credit to spend on the Barry's website (hello new workout clothes!).

    All signs point to fitness.

I'd been eyeing this gym last year but wasn't motivated enough. I then severely injured my meniscus and as a queer disabled woman I felt concerned about my health trajectory. My progress has been phenomenal and so many things in my life have gotten easier. I'm slowly easing off the crutches and feel confident I can and will move forward but will also be able to handle inevitable life setbacks. Gina and her team treat you like a whole person - I needed a lot of accommodations due to multiple disabilities and problem issues like hypermobility, joint dislocations, migraines, nerve pain in my shoulders and hips, and more. We've worked through them all and I'm so grateful I made this choice and to Gina and Joe for their constant encouragement and what actually feels like love. I'll add this gym does rehab work like with me but other things too like elite athlete work, expectant mums, post partum folks, and some other specialities too. Highly highly recommend.

They have a 90 day onboarding program where you can try their group classes and have 24/hr access to the gym to work out and see if they are a great fit. After the 90 days, there are a few different programs to go into based on your goals. The owners are patient and available and will check in with you along the way in your 90 days to help you understand their programs and what they offer. After that, they will listen to your feedback and suggest other programs to continue. I have not been to the gym in over 7 years and this year was time to get back into it and become a better version of myself. The first couple times I went, I was greeted warmly and one person even said, "glad you're here", which made me feel welcome. I looked at all of the gyms in and around Newberg and Rebuilt, which is on the upper end of gym fees, seemed like the gym to start with. I met with the owner prior to choosing a program and they explained their program. They have different options for different programs and you're paying for their skill, the community, and the comradery. The group coaches remember you from week to week and encourage you to work that little extra. I am almost finished with my 90-day onboarding, and I look forward to choosing the program that's right for me. Thank you, Rebuilt!

I needed someone to walk me through how to get the most out of the gym, to give me the confidence to pursue fitness on my own, and to keep me coming back every week. So far I've worked with both Khino and Nataliia who have enthusiastically given me everything I've wanted and more. They don't take a one-size-fits-all approach, and they understand my goals and what's important to me so that we can focus on that every session. I have always felt that I could ask them anything without feeling stupid or like I don't "belong" there. They are clearly experts at what they do but are very kind and welcoming to newbies like me. I end every session feeling tired but accomplished at having completed the workouts they designed for me. I can't recommend PPT strongly enough!
