WATCH OUT!!! This location is a nightmare!!! There is a THIEF IN THE LOCKER ROOM!!!!! They know and they continue to go back as they know they can get away with it. For as expensive as this gym is they allow whom ever to come in and know they can steal while the customers are working out. I had very valuable items stolen - they take no accountability and are even a bit passive about it like well you shouldn't leave them in your locker. MULTIPLE WOMEN have had their purses and valuable items STOLEN: My Cartier watch and VINTAGE LV bag were stolen while others had their Gucci and Goyard purses stolen. Since there are no cameras in the locker room this thief will keep getting away with it. At the time they had no signs up in the locker room and now they are all over the gym. I have spoke to the police and done everything I needed to on my end but in the end Barry's and their insurance company take NO RESPONSIBILITY! THEY DO NOT TAKE CARE OF THEIR CLIENTELE!!! read more

Really really intense workout but leaves you feeling so good. I've gone here a few times now and each time has been such a different experience. In my opinion the lower body focus workouts are super intense but I still really enjoyed it. I went to Barry's UWS for a weekday 6:40pm class after work. When I walked in, the class looked completely full (looked like ~50 spots between treads and floor). It was a very sweaty and exhausting 50 minutes, but such a great workout! For the standard Run X Lift Total Body class, you alternate twice between treadmill running and HIIT floor exercises. The instructions can be a little confusing the first time, as the instructor is explaining to the treads and floors simultaneously. You get used to it after a few sessions. The music was upbeat, and the class had such good energy to keep you going. Michael P. was a great instructor - positive, encouraging, and provided clear instruction. Compared to other Barry's locations I've been to, this one was spacious and well-ventilated, which I appreciated. If it weren't so pricey ($40/class), I would probably come more often. They do have a NYC first-timer special of 3 classes for $75. read more

It's pretty much like orange theory but no monitoring nor rowing machine. Loved the intensity. The red light. Loved the great work out that I had. 3 Stars.. because I actually liked the cIass I took at 12:20PM on Memorial Day. That lady was really nice and dope. I believe her name is Jennifer. But lets talk about the front desk. Barrys, why are you not vetting the people that is supposed to be the front line of your company. I got checked in by 2 nice ladies, which is fine. But its the encounter I had after that really left a bad taste in my mouth. I am talking about the two men, who I didn't get their names, but one was a tall white man, and one was a bit shorter, skinny, asian man. This is the best description I can give. They weren't that memorable. But i'm sure you can look at your schedule and see who worked at that time. Scenario 1: I had to step out because I was cramping, and needed some water. I stepped outside and asked for a little cup just to have some water in my system (I forgot my water bottle at home, I guess thats my bad). He said "we sell the water bottles for you to buy". I am not going to buy and go through a transaction just for a sip of water. When I asked for a cup, he eventually got up (with a little attitude) , passed me the cup and said "we rarely do this, we want to keep our companies sustainability policy". Okay.. i'm all bout sustainability, but over WATER BRUH?? It's not that deep. We recycle out here. Scenario 2: I wanted to grab a protein shake and realized that there was no one manning the bar. So I went to the front to ask. The tall white man goes "oh we usually ask people to order before hand to order." This is my FIRST Barry's class. How tf am I supposed to know that you have to order prior? And of course, he acted like he was doing me such a HUGE FAVOR by asking me "its fine.. i'll do it this time, what would you like?" Your margins on these protein shakes are HUGE, why would you not want to sell that? and then give an attitude about it? It's just a protein shake. Treat customers like you're happy to be there. Scenario 3: I came with a friend and I was waiting to pay for the protein shake. And the asian man told my friend "can you check in?" and she has already taken a class, shes just waiting for me to pay. And when she said shes just waiting for me, he said "can you stand over there?" like whaaaat? cmon mann. anyways. class was great. staff was lil weird. im just gonna assume they're going through some things with their lives. but I wont go to this Barry's again. read more

I don't get why Barry's is so popular... there are SO MANY people stuffed into one small room that 1) there is zero instruction whatsoever, unlike other fitness classes, 2) no one explains to newbies how to use the equipment so it's super confusing, unlike other fitness classes, and 3) seems like breeding grounds for COVID. Moreover, the workout is very basic - it's literally just switching off between treadmill, bicep curls, and crunches for 50 min - which kinda defeats the purpose of paying for a fitness class bc anyone could've easily thought of that sequence by themselves in the gym. I'm a fairly active person and I enjoy running so I decided to try Barry's. Gonna start off with saying that it wasn't very welcoming like other fitness studios, there was 0 sense of community, as a newbie they did explain the whole gist of it before class but once class started I was practically on my own or relying on what the person next to me was doing. The instructor doesn't really walk you through anything just lets you know whats coming up next and how many mins you have left. Basically the entire workout is floor (weights) SWITCH treadmill SWITCH floor treadmill which I personally found boring? because I easily could've done that at any gym. Also it didn't feel very safe in a health aspect since you're sharing a treadmill and other equipment with someone else in class, and sure you could wipe it down but then it cuts into workout time. There were also no modifications or correction on form which I found concerning and also strange considering the cost.. IMO its verrrry overrated. read more

Intense. Fast paced. FUN! Ok let me get this out of the way first. This workout is hard. Like really hard. It's borderline ridiculous the first time especially. But I've been a Barry's fan for 4 years and I keep coming back. The instructors are top notch and always willing to help you modify. The workouts are always changing so I never get bored. And the results are terrific. Not only am I physically able to do things I never though I could do, but the mental benefits and lessons I learn at this studio are well worth the investment. It's not cheap but it's on par with most group fitness class rates in NYC for a workout of this level. Locker rooms are clean with plenty of lockers for everyone. Just be patient as it gets full in there. 3 Showers in the mens locker room and plenty of sink and mirror space. My pro tip: invest the extra money and try one of their smoothies that'll be ready when you finish your workout. read more

Tucked in to a converted brownstone space, I have to admit I was a little concerned that this Barry's would feel cramped and hard to navigate but they've done a great job with the design. The lockers are stocked with the same great amenities and seemingly, there's more counter space so you're not on top of anyone when you're blowdrying your hair. That said, the new studio has an adorable charm (a fireplace nook!) and flows nicely. Can't wait to start going to this location regularly. read more

hi :( i really don't want to be posting this but i just want my water bottle back! looks like the one pictured below lol :/ i called in because i left it in the bathroom and the worker retrieved it and said that i could pick it up the next day.. the next day came around and my cousin walked all the way there to grab it for me and the workers had no idea what i was talking about and said they didn't have it.. i know it was my fault i left it there but i would've came right back to grab it but the worker on the line said to just come back the next day which we came back for and they did not have my item for me barry's is already so expensive! i don't understand how anyone could take a water bottle.. it has sentimental value to me and i just want it back.. please and thank u will gladly take this down when i get it back read more

Front desk has changed like the location has given up on enthusiasm and competence. It doesn't have the same fit fam vibe. Not even close. Feels like a regular gym. And let's not talk about how instructors allow students to do their own routine way far from an encouraged modification. Very annoying to be in a class when I follow instructor and the adjacent student is not following routine. I modify speed but follow pattern. Also, we had a period where the products in locker room ran low or were empty. That seemed to coincide with the change in staff. Sorry to say this but with the hope we get back to how it was. Had an amazing workout with Kanu! I just recently moved from Boston to NYC and have been on the hunt for the best aka toughest instructors to take classes from, as I've taken a few here in NYC where the classes were just not up to par with what I'm used to. I heard great things about Kanu from another class-goer and decided to sign up for his 2pm class here. Everyone from the front desk staff to facilities was so friendly and helpful, and the class was amazing. He actually took first-timers in the studio a few min before class to show them the ropes and do a quick intro of the workout, something I actually think Barry's should do across the board as I've seen many confused patrons in almost all of my classes; while I love Barry's, I do believe that Barry's is not a new-to-fitness friendly workout. However, I am sure Kanu's intro was super helpful to the newbies, and I thoroughly enjoyed his workout. He was super clear and detailed about form on exercises which is always great, AND he is so kind and friendly, something you don't always get from the better instructors at high end fitness studios. The studio was clean and in such a great location too! I will be definitely be back in Kanu's classes and at this studio for sure! read more

SO happy Barry's Bootcamp opened a location in the Upper West Side! It's in a perfect location that I can stop by there for a workout before or after work if I want to. I took the Sunday Full Body class with Dan C. and it was an awesome workout. Less than 10 minutes after class and I'm already feeling sore (which I love). While I just grabbed a shake and left after the locker rooms are super nice and there's a decent amount of showers if you want to wash the massive amounts of sweat you'll create during the workout. read more

I can't help but love Barry's. Granted, not all instructors are a vibe, I usually walk out of a class feeling on fire (in a good way). The first 5 or so times, I had a hard time getting through the class. I'm not a runner and I didn't understand why I was dropping north of $30 for a class where I run on a treadmill half the time. But after the fifth class, I got it in a big way. The endorphin high from sprinting, plus the music, plus the energy from the room gets you through the weight training portion so your can pump those guns harder. I wish I could afford to come 3 times a week. As far as instructors, I particularly love Charlie. Most are good but he's excellent. read more

I don't quite understand the Barry's hype. For a place that calls itself a "boutique fitness" studio, Barry's is far from it. My biggest gripe is that there is no water refill station! You either have to buy a bottle from them ($3!!) or ask the person at the smoothie bar to fill your bottle up with warm sink water. Even this is frustrating because I don't like having to ask them to do it for me - it's a bit awkward. It's totally fine to charge for water bottles. All of the studios do. But...they all also have water refill stations for you to fill up on your own. I'd expect a fancy studio like this to promote sustainability and give people the option to bring their own water bottle and be able to drink COLD water! Yes, they have fancy products in the showers, but besides that, I really wouldn't consider Barry's to be an upscale fitness studio worthy of a $35 price tag. The instructors are ok. Charlie is phenomenal, but some of the others leave much to be desired. Most of all - please fix the water situation! read more

Great class! I visited through the classpass trial and this was the first class that I could really see myself returning to. Workouts are great (I went on a butt / ab day so lots of squats and flutter kick type things) plus running which I guess is their big thing. Music is also timed really well so that you want to really push it out on the sprints. Instructor was great as well! read more

I've taken classes twice and have not been disappointed. I've left the class feeling my ass kicked without the instructor being in my face. Facilities: I love that the locker room is spacious and aesthetically pleasing. I look forward to taking a shower every time after class as the shower products smell amazing! One should only feel like sh*t at any fitness class because of the class itself. And that feeling should still be a "I feel like sh*t, but damn I feel great" because somethings been accomplished in the classroom. One should not feel like sh*t because of the employees working. And by employees I am talking about the front of house. Checked in for a 1230PM today with my GF+ two friends and were all treated horribly by the female brunette working the desk. She made us all feel unworthy of working out at Barry's because we booked through classpass. Barry's chose to go on classpass so they should treat all attendees with equal respect. She also confused as first timers because she couldn't check us in promptly or properly. We all felt disrespected, looked down on, and horrible. My girlfriend was fuming and I am surprised she didn't snap. I never like it when she does, but I was actually hoping she would've in this situation. It's also not smart to treat 4 people who are new so horribly. That would be 4 potential long time members lost, and 4 complaints going barry's corporate's way. read more

I started doing Barry's classes here about two months ago. Everything really has exceeded my expectations. The workouts are great. Are they workouts you could do on your own? Yes, if you are exceptionally motivated. Personally, I need an instructor and others around me in a class setting to work as hard as they run you, there's no way I could repeatedly kick my own butt that hard multiple times a week. I'm not a fan of of the trainers that try to guilt you into going harder as opposed to those that inspire you to work harder, but it's easy enough to figure out which trainers you do or do not like after a class. As for the staff, I saw some of the negative reviews, but in my experience, they have always been courteous and helpful. I would've preferred a little bit more of an introduction to the facilities my first time (as the website states will happen), but every interaction has been positive. Perhaps the issue was raised and addressed already. The facilities are great. Nothing amazing, but they have everything you need to change, shower, clean up, etc. Much better than some other Barry's locations in the cities with tiny locker rooms. read more

Rude staff!! I am one of the four that the woman at the font desk of Barry's UWS mistreated yesterday. I went wanting nothing more than a good workout which isn't a lot to ask for. I'm compelled to share my experience as a warning for people who are new to Barry's. I haven't worked out in awhile and Barry's was the first class I booked to get myself back in the game. They did everything to deter me from working out in the future in these class-like environments. They made me uncomfortable, embarrassed, and scared to attend any future classes in different studios with the way they treated me as a new "member". I felt way worse than just not welcomed. I felt 100% unwelcomed to the point where I was bringing down the studio as a whole. How can anyone feel good enough to improve themselves if this is what should've been a simple interaction upon checkin has become. read more

What am I paying $35 a class for? To be treated very poorly by the receptionist and made to feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. To be told that the towels ran out before my class started. To be put on a treadmill with a loose belt that felt like it wasn't safe to be running on. You can't sell yourself as a premium exercise class without doing the work to make sure customers have that premium experience. 0 stars for you Barry. I had a wonderful first experience here with Bobby G and feel badly that this studio has so many poor reviews on Yelp. Big shoutout to the lovely front desk staff (sorry I didn't catch your names but girl, I hope you buy the olive workout set we discussed) -- they were more warm and friendly than other NYC Barry's locations where staff is often / a little rude. The locker rooms here appeared newer / cleaner than other NYC locations too! Will only be back at Barry's thanks to my fun experience at UWS! P.S. I was really excited to take my first class at Barry's. I walked in and everything was really nice and clean and the man who checked us in was very friendly. THEN we met the boy who was going to be teaching our class.....he interrupted our conversation with a snarky and rude comment after the girl I was with mentioned she was nervous about it being her first class. His attitude was very off-putting and not positive to go into a class. When we got into the room, our instructor during the 6:50pm class on Friday wasn't helpful at all. He didn't check on anybody or give proper form comments and even said to the class "I don't give a Shit what you do." If was NOT A positive environment and everybody in the class, including the instructor, seemed to not want to be there. Sure, the class was "challenging" because of the running portion but I thought it'd be an uplifting and exciting class but it turned out to just be a negative experience. read more

Finally tried Barry's for the first time tonight! So glad I got the 3 pack for first timers as I can't wait to go back! Front desk staff was super nice and had my name on a little note as one of the newbies of the class. A few minutes before class, the instructor brought in us first timers for a short demo before the rest of the class came in. SUPER helpful and nice. Overall, the class felt very similar to an OrangeTheory minus the rowing machine. The instructor was encouraging but not in your face, and the music was great. I was slightly confused at times, but was able to follow those around me and get the hang of it. I think next time, I'll know what to expect and be able to give it 100%. *UPDATE* Management contacted me, but we're all clearly not on the same page. I was offered a free class which I do not plan on taking. That's not what I, or my friends who experienced such mortification a few days ago are looking for. None of us plan on using any free classes given to us and Barry's can go ahead and take them out of our accounts. The problem here isn't the class itself. It's solely the interaction with their pretentious front desk. I declined the class and asked for an apology from the person herself. That's when the manager chose to cut off interaction. A genuine apology is what was asked for and that genuine apology obviously isn't going to be given. With that being said - I don't see anyone trying to do anything beyond basic protocol to try to make things better. read more

Need to circulate the air in the room more--I typically sweat and workout really hard but I'm never gasping for air like I was in this class. I've talked to a couple other people about the air circulation here and they said this location has unusually poorly circulated air. I'd definitely look into this ASAP--someone is going to get hurt. My husband had to step out in the middle of class to catch some air, and I felt like I was going to throw up (and I'd say we typically work out as hard or harder than these classes on a regular basis). The physical space is really nice and the location is great, but I had precisely the same experience as Ashlin...I literally felt like I could not catch my breath for the entire class and that I might throw up or even pass out. I am not the most in-shape guy, but I work out all the time, including at multiple Barry's Bootcamp locations and had never, ever felt like this before. Frankly, it was scary. Initially I thought it was just me, but a friend of mine, upon hearing that I was heading to a class here the next day, mentioned that he felt like was having an asthma attack and couldn't breathe when he went to a class at this location (I didn't say a word that would have prompted him...I had assumed that whatever happened during that class was a "me" issue and wasn't because of the space itself). Not surprisingly, I experienced the same problem the next day when I went here for the second time. When I checked Yelp and saw Ashlin's review about her and her husband, It became clear that the issue extended far beyond my fat ass...there's a real circulation/oxygen issue at this location and somebody could get really hurt. I called and spoke to someone who I believe is the manager. He was very friendly, appreciative and responsive and said he'd look into this. Here's hoping they identify and rectify the issue ASAP. read more

I went to my second Barry's class with Mackenzie R on Saturday July 19th. About half way during the class she stated if you can't keep up don't come because you throw off the class for everyone. I think this is wildly inappropriate. Barry's states on their website there is no class for beginners and that their instructors will be accommodating of all levels. Going to HITT classes are hard for even a very fit person so for the motivation to be if you can't keep up don't come as a complete discouragement. I will not be returning. Either introduce new joiner classes or hire instructors that motivate instead of discourage read more
