Four stations, with different exercises but a general daily focus (Upper, Lower, Core) It's really a simple, elegant concept, well-executed. You get in an amazing workout in a tight 40 minutes. I came to Sweat440 in Chelsea through ClassPass. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I like that they have start times every 10 minutes so there is flexibility with scheduling.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's a mix of strength and conditioning circuits, four ten-minute cycles. It was a pretty good workout, and used a mix of equipment (sled, bike, free weights, SkiErg, etc.) The music was fun and upbeat. Only complaint is that the coaches don't really correct your form so you need to know how to do the exercises, unless you can learn from what is displayed on your screen. I had a great time at my first Sweat440 session this morning. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I registered through ClassPass and immediately was drawn by the gym's structure and how classes begin every 10 minutes, so I could pick a slot that was perfect for me instead of missing out on classes scheduled every half hour and having to wait as my motivation wanes, as has happened many times before.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Because of the circuit set-up and there only being one staff member (as far as I could tell) at this time, my experience with the trainer was pretty hands-off, although I enjoy that and have disliked some programs I've tried in the past because I'm new to fitness training and have felt uncomfortable under close scrutiny (of course, I welcome posture adjustments though). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Don't get me wrong, he was floating around, offering encouragements, answering questions, and remembering names, and I felt very welcomed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They sell water bottles at the desk if you forgot and offer free lockers equipped with locks, which I used, and showers, which I didn't use. The workout itself, as others have mentioned, is made up of four stations with three exercises each; each exercise is given three sets of 45 seconds each. There are televisions posted at each station with videos depicting each exercise, your name so you know where you're supposed to be, and a timer to keep track of what you're doing. You get 15 secs to rest in between before switching, and there's rags and cleaning spray to wipe equipment down. Each session is 40 minutes. I was definitely sweating by the end of it, and I felt pretty good! (Which is an achievement, because I'm just starting on my journey to becoming stronger, and consistency is difficult for me.) I enjoyed the HITT workouts here. They have lockers with built-in locks and showers so all you need is to bring yourself. The classes start every 10 minutes and it consists of 4 stations and each station has 2 teams (shown on the screen) and you spend 10 minutes in each station for a total of 40 minutes per class. There are sprays and towels nearby that you can use after completing each station. The coaches on the floor are super awesome and I recommend Sweat440 to anyone who wants a good HITT workout! read more

Super kind and great motivator, encouraging all of us to never give up, go til our rest period and no sooner, and give it our all. I love the set up of this place. It's speedy. 40 min in and out. Go hard. It feels really communal; like you're all doing this hard thing together and little exclamations like "let go guys" and anytime someone was exhausted and you heard it, you feel it cuz you're doing it yourself! Not sure I understand the wiping down science of it all. Wasn't sure if the towels are leftover or assigned to people. Music is. I'm ping to keep you motivated and moving. It took a while, and I had to pay for 2 months during this effort, but a very kind rep called me back and I was able to cancel.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I am currently in my 2nd month trying to cancel my membership. You can only do so by calling the main office number, which is not the number to your studio.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]You'll get a recording that they are currently helping other customers and that you must leave a number and detailed message for them to call you back. So far in over 4 weeks, they have not called me back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I will update if this changes. Of course I am charged, and you see on your studio's website that you must cancel more than 14 days prior to the renewal. I loved the classes and the drop-in format, and while I need to cancel for now, unless this is some system error or something completely explainable I will have to avoid any membership with Sweat440 Chelsea in the future, period. This is when it all feels like a scheme to keep your money flowing to their business regardless of your circumstances. read more

It's extremely convenient for since there's a workout every 10 minutes so you are never late and you get a great workout in just 40 minutes. Came for a free trial and enjoyed my time. Signing up was VERY SEAMLESS and they're not pushy about joining, which is half the battle with these places. The lockers are outside of the bathroom areas, so it can get awkward if you need to change. The setup is unique in that the workout area is split into workstations. And those work stations are split up into smaller work stations. Basically for a brief period of time, you're in one corner of the room, and rotate smaller work stations until you've done all the exercises like 3 times, and then you move to another corner of the room and repeat until you've gone through all corners. The idea is to simulate a fast paced environment, which has its pros and cons. Pro: your heart rate will go up. Because of the rapid intervals, even seasoned gym goers will have to adjust to lighter weights to accommodate pace. Con: because it's so fast, the trainers aren't able to quality control your form extensively, which for beginners could lead to bad habits of unintentional cheating. Pro: it's a fun dynamic environment, so the trainers will peruse the crowd and hype them up. Con: space and equipment are limited, with no control of exercises, so you won't be able to target specific muscles. If you're into classes, it's a fun time to try with your friends. read more

Took this class on class pass and I'm glad I did! It was good to get back into a workout at a studio after not doing so for so long due to covid. Very covid- friendly and clean. You have to show your vaccination card when you arrive. There are wipes all throughout and spray bottles with towels to clean down your station when you're done. The instructor I had was very nice and a good hype man. Cool concept that it starts every 10 minutes. Now I get it with the different rotations that it makes sense. For anyone that's saying it's not hands on, most studios like this aren't! They are group classes. If you want more hands on and corrections of form, speak up or go to a personal trainer. Did a man AM class last week through classplans and had a great time. It's 40 minutes total but only 27 minutes of work if you count rest periods. Classes start every ten minutes with (I assume) a max of 6 people per start time (I could be wrong!) when I went there were five of us starting and and three stations. We each did 45 seconds of work with a 15 second break then rotated to the next stations. You hit each station three times and then get a one minute break. There are four areas total so it ends up being the 40 minutes promised. Stations consisted of things like : the assault bike , tuck jumps, boat pose plus dumb bell press, and mountain climbers. I imagine workouts change every day. I rotated through with another person which was nice because it made me work harder. If you're on a station alone I suppose you'll just have to be slightly more self motivated. Though, it is only 40-45 seconds! I will say (and I've noticed this really at all the NYC boutique gyms I've gone to, not just this one) that coaches are there more to remind you of time and to say encouraging things than to correct form. I'm sure if someone was doing something dangerous or clearly wrong they would say something, though -- It seems like everyone in the boutique gym scene is already extremely fit. Overall I thought it was a fun, compact workout and I had a great time! read more

New gym. Music awful-- just a lot of background pop music. Great work out. Tried the upper body and a core focused class. Both have decent amount of cardio so don't go to the core class thinking it's just core. You need to move your butt and burn those calories. The instructors don't do much. They monitor the different exercise stations and occasionally shout out something that's suppose to be encouraging. this tweak would make this gym 5 stars with more hands on, motivational instructors. This gym is suited for self motivated folks that work on a more intermediate level. read more

What an amazing gym! I have wasted hundreds of dollars on classpass due to running a few minutes late for a scheduled class. Sweat440 is genius - classes start every ten minutes so you are never late. I had been looking for a good gym near me that offers a mix of cardio and strength training, and I'm so happy I found sweat440. It definitely feels like a complete total body workout. The trainers are so nice and the workout is so fun - it flies by. I'm planning on getting a monthly membership. I'm not particularly fit and I am intimidated by classes like crossfit. There were definitely some very muscular and intense people in the class, but it was still approachable. It reminded me of Barry's bootcamp or orange theory - but cheaper and more fun! read more
