Did a few Mat/Tower classes here. The space is clean and the class is always rewarding at the end!

The studio is run down with very dangerous stairs leading to the second floor where the studios are located. In both the east and west sides of Lexington Avenue. The instructors there are inconsistent and hit and miss. Some don't seem to understand the intricacies of anatomy to know which exercises might do more harm than good to certain body parts or with certain medical issues . There should be more observation from the owner of the instructors to guage their expertise. The only pleasant and efficient person there is the receptionist. I do not recommend going here and I will not return. read more

1. the front desk staff are very good--polite, respectful, and knowledgeable. The studios are clean and safe. 2. Pricing is reasonable for the location, and probably the quality of training one could get. 3. I suggest that one carefully chooses an instructor for private sessions. It's a private session, where a student/client should have divided attention for the entire booked time. I'd also like (expect) to see humbleness--instructors, no matter what the experience level might be, are still interested in learning. I believe that each unique student should bring a superb educational opportunity for the instructors. This may not be the case depending on whom one chooses. read more

I discovered the aptly named "Mind Your Body" through a Living Social Offer for 5 group equipment classes. I called the shop and entered my information online so I could book my classes directly.... a very convenient method. My first class was an open level reformer with Dana as the teacher. I loved the class! Dana took us through the some basic and some intermediate movements on the reformer. We worked all body areas and she made sure to include lots of stretching in between the difficult exercises. The class was thoroughly well-balanced and an intermediate level workout. Dana said she tailors the class to the level of the students present. I continued 3 times more with Dana while I once dared to try an advanced reformer with Rachel. Wow! That was quite a challenge. As tough as the workout was, Rachel made sure to stretch us well therefore alleviating future muscle tightness and aches. I have tried many, many Pilates studios in NYC, ultimately feeling a bit like a Goldilocks looking for the perfect fit. Highly qualified instructors are often only available for private instruction--beyond my budget. Studios that offer many classes during the day are often downtown or with groups larger than 5 students; not convenient for me. As I believe 4-5 is about the most a teacher can handle and still give students needed input. Finally a studio that offers small group classes throughout the day with highly qualified instructors; Just what I have been searching for! Thank you! Michelle read more

I really love this studio, and I'm surprised by some of the other reviews. I had worked out for years with free weights when this past year I developed an over-use injury in my quads. No more heavy free weights for me. I'd also been struggling for some time with sciatica and shoulder/neck pain. I knew that pilates would be good for me but having never done it, I was really intimidated and couldn't bring myself to just show up at a class. Besides, I didn't know one end of the reformer from the other. I was also concerned about further injuring myself by going to a large gym and taking a class. From the moment, I walked into Mind Your Body, I felt comfortable. Yes, it is a small studio, but that ensures individual attention. I already belong to a large gym in the city so if I want crowds, sweaty machines and pulsating music, I know where to go. One reason I selected MYB was because they do not allow you to join a class without first having three individual sessions. This says a lot for MYB's commitment to safety while ensuring that clients maximize their results. MYB also has evening and even Sunday hours that fit into my hectic schedule. I have had 4 different instructors and all were fantastic. They have different styles but in every case, they were patient, encouraging and very professional. I leave the studio after every session, free of pain (which lasted even through a recent 2 week vacation twhen it was not possible to get to the studio) and refreshed. The studio is clean, and I always see the instructors wiping down the reformers after each use. There's even a shower which, although I have never used, is available if I need it before work. I've tried out group classes at many pilates studios around the city, and this is my favorite. The positives: The classes are small, so the teachers really give one-on-one attention and make sure you are doing all the exercises correctly. The equipment is new and clean. The online booking is handy. The classes were actually fun. In each of the classes I took we tried at least one thing I'd never done before, and the teachers give it a good vibe and made me feel comfortable trying new things. So why only 4 stars? Two reasons: It's really nice that the classes are so small. But it's also a negative because I had to put myself on the wait list several weeks in advance, and I still wasn't guaranteed the class. The other reason is that it's pricier than other pilates studios (although also smaller and more personal, so you do get what you pay for). Update: I got an email from a rep at Mind Your Body saying they have more classes available now. So nice! :) read more

I have only taken 2 classes here and really liked them both, and the instructor too. My only issue so far is how inflexible their cancellation policy seems to be. I tried to reschedule my class the morning of--yes, a cardinal sin in the exercise class world, i understand, but I was actually sick. I was told the policy was to allow a rescheduled class for the same day, same instructor. First problem was that the instructor only teaches one class that day. Second, this policy only helps if you're having a scheduling issue, not if you're sick. Because I was unwilling to eat the cost of the class, and let's be real, on principle, i came to class anyway, and did what I could. I didn't want to spread my germs but thats just what this kind of inflexible policy encourages. If I had a better impression of the admin side of things I would definitely give more stars read more

I have attended a few reformer classes here and two factors have led me to explore other pilates studios on the UES: 1) I find the exercises rushed and fast paced with very little emphasis on correct form and technique. 2) Equipment seems poorly maintained, uneven straps, inconsistent spring loads. I do get a good workout, but only because I have learnt the correct technique from a previous studio (although I'm sure it's not perfect). Unless you're having a private class, I would only suggest going here if you know what you're doing. read more

I have been a member of Mind Your Body NYC for about 6 months and have been doing, on average, one Class plus one Private per week. I have been working with most of the Instructors and they are all trained to the max; and most professional in every way. All my friends have noticed my advancement in strength, posture, and energy. I love it and intend to remain very active. This past Friday, Nov 24th, at the 90th street location, I had a one hour private with Roberto (our first together) and he took me though a wide range of movements and strength exercises which pushed me nicely within my present level. For the first time, I was able to stay in the Upper Plank position for 4 minutes. He was excellent and I will schedule him often. Both of the studios (90th and 92nd on Lex) are super clean and well managed; I recommend Mind Your Body NYC to everyone who wants Pilates from Beginner to Advanced levels. John Sawyers read more

Tried this studio out but was disappointed that they didn't offer mat classes. I found the reformer classes to be very fast paced, and not focusing on proper form. Also, I didn't find them to be accomodating during scheduling. Wouldn't recommend. read more

I have been a client for over two years now, having taken private and group classes with several instructors. Although I like some instructors' classes better than others (just a personal preference), they are all very good at what they do. They are very attentive to students' needs and limitations: they always ask if anyone is injured and offer modifications to address these problems. The group classes are small so you receive good and frequent feedback from the instructors. I like the fact that they sometimes ask if students have "special requests" for that day. Scheduling may be difficult; planning ahead is the key. However, the owner is very responsive to clients and, when possible, adds new classes. Online booking is convenient. Classes fill up quickly but there are also many cancellations. I have frequently been on the waitlist and most of the times I got in. read more

This is the real deal. If you want great teachers who really know Pilates this is the place. Prices are reasonable, and one can do private, semi private or group (usually max of 5) classes. Everyone is super nice, and on-line registration and cancellations make the system flawless. Having done Pilates for over 30 years (I was trained by a master teacher, Kathy Grant, who taught for Joe Pilates himself) it makes me so happy to have such great training available. read more

This is a studio that seems to take its pilates seriously. It's also an UES studio that coddles its clients (who tend to be the older UES type) - no wiping down equipment for this group! I took the tower and reformer classes here after buying a multi-class card through SpaFinder. advantage: the classes are small. There are only five reformers/towers in the main studio so you are getting personalized attention, and receiving the more detailed corrections you would not get in a larger gorup setting. disadvantage: the classes are small. This means they are more expensive than Pilates Reforming NY, for example. It also means that it's nearly impossible to book. While I enjoyed the classes I took there, I wondered why management would offer discounted multi-class cards when it's so difficult to get a spot (and this was during the summer, when presumably everyone who would do Pilates was supposed to be off in the Hamptons). Of the five classes I eventually took, I was able to book only one directly - the rest of them were only through waiting for cancellations. It's a little frustrating. I think the quality of instruction is at least 4-star, but getting into the class is the biggest workout. read more

Gail and her staff know what they're doing. Their instruction focuses on form and improving form, and the instructors are helpful and friendly. Even in a group lesson, they monitor individual progress and give good feedback. Classes are small and there are always specials price wise. They make you want to do more Pilates! read more

I LOVE this place! The classes at Mind Your Body have made me stronger and more flexible than I can ever remember being despite many years of yoga, weight training and all sorts of cardio. The classes are small and fun, and the knowledgable instructors suggest modifications to make the exercises easier or more challenging to match your individual level of ability. The staff are all friendly and helpful. I have been to many pilates studios from New York to Los Angeles. This one is the best one I have ever been to. For a class setting the teachers are very attentive. I also appreciate even if the classes are full youre likely to get in if you are waitlisted. This studio is my favorite thing about living on the upper east. read more

So I took about 6 classes here, and I probably won't be going back. Technically I took 5, but because one of the classes I had to cancel (which was classified as a late cancel because it was less than exactly 24 hours) I had to pay for...let me just say that I was reallllly sick that day and there was no way I was going anywhere, and they don't make any exceptions...none. Wow, let me just reiterate how miserable and sick I was that day, I still had to pay for the class even though I probably canceled, lets see, 21 hours before the class started. Yep people, 21 hours. Who knows, maybe I'm just new to this online enrolling/24 hour cancellation thing. Out of the 5 different teachers I had, 3 of the instructors were awesome, the other two not so much. The other 2 instructors...not great, I left feeling like I didn't get a great workout, and there's nothing I hate more than a pilates class that doesn't feel like I've been worked from the inside out. I would probably give them 3 stars but I'm in such a foul mood from finding out I had to pay for that class, and having such a poorly planned class just now. read more

this pilates studio is one of the nicest ive ever been to. only 5 reformers, and so you feel as if you're getting personalized attention/in a private class. the instructors are really helpful and while i packaged this deal thru a groupon, i will definitely be going back for some follow up classes. Overall a really big fan of this place! read more
