Barstow Station....I'm terrified/horrified/intimidated by your busy, angry parking lot. It's the parking lot that makes me lose my nerves....Hectic, chaotic and at any minute, I feel like people are going to jump out of their rides and start a brawl because the Dad driving the minivan packed full of kids and a grumpy wife backed into the grease ball dill hole's convertible Benz...It's a cluster F of nonsense going on all at once. But, if you can get past the chaos, it's a pretty decent stop with good but unhealthy food options.... Added the extra star for the filipino joint there but couldn't bear to 4 star it due to their hours :( But, the Mickey D's is in train cars....so that's a plus right there! read more

I never stopped by Barstow whenever I'm en route to Vegas or en route back home. I worked nearby on the base and this is the only place worth stopping by in Barstow equipped with a McDonald's restaurant, Panda Express, a sandwich shop, ice cream, and a bunch of other souvenir shops. I bought a legitimate switchblade here for about $30, and I used to make pit stops here after every motorcycle ride. Also bought some little souvenir at some Chinese store. What's neat about this McDonald's I'm not sure if they used retired trains as their eatery or if its simply just a model I forgot but it's pretty cool! Parking is ok, there's plenty in the back but I was so sick and tired of running into the same people who bump into you trying to scam you out of some dollars with the whole "Oh my car ran out of gas could you please spot me $50?" Why would you plan a roadtrip across the desert without thinking about gas? Smh seems like those guys like to hang around McDonald's and Walmarts read more

Barstow station is one of those landmarks that bring back memories for anyone who has driven back and forth from Cali to Vegas. I remember when I was younger and we made family trips Vegas, we would stop here for potty breaks and all the cousins would eat breakfast in the McDonald's train. If you're hungry for more than McDonald's, there's also a Panda Express and ice cream. Expect lines to be long for food and bathrooms with all the people passing though. The bathroom at times can be gross too, but usually they are pretty good about keeping it tidy. read more

Get to the bathroom before the buses unload their passengers!!! This place can be a madhouse. There's a panda express, Thrifty's ice cream, McDonalds, a dessert shop, and a variety of other random things going on in there. Add a whole bunch of people to this and you have masses of travelers just wandering around with full bladders and empty stomachs. My goal: get in, pee, get out. If I see more than two buses pulling into the parking lot when I do, I don't even try. I just go to the starbucks across the street and use their restrooms instead. read more

Stumbled on this place on the way back home from Vegas. We stopped by to grab some food because we saw the McDonalds sign from the highway. This station has a lot of random stuff. It has gift shops, food (McDonald's, Panda Express, Duncan donuts, subway and a Wetzels pretzels) Pretty interesting place to stop by and grab something to eat and look around at the trinkets they have on sale. read more

It's hard to rate this place because there are so many things here. But 4 stars seems legit since I keep coming back here. I must be a fan? Barstow is essentially the midpoint from Los Angeles to Vegas. Stops here are almost essential to release and eat a snack (usually at McDonalds). The restrooms are pretty nasty, but I'm sure they get used by hundreds of people each day. All the tour busses and greyhound, stop here and everyone does their business in Barstow. Inside, there are some interesting shops and souveniers to buy. There's a dunkin donuts, panda express, mcdonalds, and a few other small food shops to choose from. They recently re-did the outside of the place to look more modern. I kind of miss the old western looking train station though. read more

Man was it hot on the way back from Vegas....so we happened to stop here and I grabbed an ice cold (McDonald's) coffee and man, did that hit the spot! The parking lot is usually littered with other people trekking the heat, so enjoy the people watching and stop by if you need to get out of your car and walk around or just cool down. read more

I go to and from cali to vegas around 4/5 times a month. I spend a lot of time in barstow. When I don't drive I take greyhound which usually stops here for a break. I always get off to walk around, use bathroom and get food. ThIs stop offers hot food, cold drinks, restrooms, a mcdonalds, panda express, dunkin doughnuts, popeyes and candy shops. All the employees are quick there. Foods ususlly fresh for fast food, as in food hasn't been sitting around. ThIs spot gets packed!!! When its that crowded most food is made to order. I recommend it as a spot for a quick choice of variety, while being in one of barstows historic spots. read more

***This little shop-and-restaurant station gets very busy, but it is not a bad place to make a pit stop on the way to Las Vegas*** I have driven through Barstow several times on the way to Las Vegas, but I've never stopped at Barstow Station. Barstow Station houses many little shops and places to eat (Panda Express, ice cream shop, and a very cute McDonald's made out to look like a train). The ice cream shop (called Darigold's) was actually pretty good--I had vanilla mixed with malted chocolate in a cake cone. There is a lot of stuff to look at, buy (though most of it is cheap touristy souvenirs), and eat. The place is pretty packed and congested. Still, this is not a bad place to stop and recharge before or after a trip to Las Vegas. read more

Well....if you don't get food poisoning you're doing good! Not enough rest rooms considering you're a MAJOR stop for bus loads of tourists. If you see tour busses in the parking lot....drive on! All of the restaurants inside have over cooked their food to the point you might need to rehydrate it before eating. Huge draw because they're a true sign of civilization after driving from Bakersfield/Boron/Cal City/Edwards AFB or the last stop before getting on the vast wasteland that is the 58, but it's almost cruel the disgustingness passed off as McDonalds and Panda Express. Stale bread at Subway and forget the bagel dogs at Wetzel's. They were closing up at 8:00 pm on a Thursday!!! Closing!!! Panda was out of food, McDonalds was locking you in the dining room and the back exit was closed!!! Only good part was that they had just cleaned the bathrooms. I don't think I've ever seen the gift shops open after 6:30. It's old, feels dirty and the food sucks. Oh and the entrance coming off the 15 North is ridiculous!! I mean WTH is that traffic pattern!!! AN S?!?!?? Come on Barstow. This is just miserable. read more

This review is more for Hollywood Subs than it is for Barstow Station. I was coming back from Las Vegas when we decided to have a stop at Barstow Station. We were kind of hungry and my sister was craving Panda Express. When we walked in I noticed a place small place called Hollywood subs right at one of the entrances. I past by and it smelled good so I bit and bought a French Dip sandwich. My friend also ordered the Philadelphia Cheesesteak. Boy were we glad we did. These subs were some of the best we've had. They were packed with meat and flavor. My French Dip came with the dip in a cup. I know this sounds trivial but many places I go, the meat in the sandwich is already soaked in the dip. I prefer it in a separate cup than pre-dipped. Needless to say, after my sister tried our sandwiches, she regretted going to Panda Express. From now on we are going to stop by Hollywood subs everytime we go to and from Vegas. PS: Prices range from $6-$9 if I remember correctly. read more

if you think that the only thing interesting about this place is the architecture, then maybe you should step out of your comfort zone a little. i mean the train cars are cool and everything but there's more to life than big macs and orange chicken. walk right past the McDONALD's and PANDA EXPRESS (come on, i know you can do it) and try the the Filipino place --THEY SERVE PIG !!! tender, bite sized chunks of pork belly (a slab of unsmoked bacon) roasted and cut into tasty nuggets with crackling attached. the young lady serving us so overfilled our styrofoam cup, she had to tent it with foil because the lid wouldn't fit. talk about finger licking good !!! they also had a curry, an adobo, pancit and teriyaki chicken sticks. all looked tasty but i couldn't get past the pig. i mean, come on. like the man said, pork fat rules !!! read more

Ok, this place is a traditional stop for anyone going to Laughlin, Vegas, etc. It has a few fast food places (McD's, Subway, Panda), as well as gift shops and bathrooms. It's not very clean, and is full of tourist. There are also a lot of shady characters hanging out both in the Station and in the parking lot. I would say it's something to see, at least once. HOWEVER, PLEASE BE AWARE OF PICKPOCKETS!!!! I just had my iPhone stolen this past weekend. We stopped at the Station for a total of 5 minutes (just to use the restrooms), and in that short time, my phone magically disappeared from my front pocket where I always keep it. We used my husband's phone to call it so we could listen for it, and it had already been turned off. It's always super crowded there and people are constantly bumping into each other. It's a pickpockets paradise. So please be careful! And don't leave any valuables in your car either. There are lots of strange people just hanging out. So sure, stop and check it out once if your never been there, but be very careful of your surroundings and your valuables. read more

I would be contradicting myself if I rate this as "A-OK" because I practically stop here everytime on my way back from Vegas. Yes, it CAN be a little seedy here at times since it is a bus station for nomads and such. Just ignore them and you won't be harmed. But I think the only reason why I come here (besides to use the restroom) is because of the nostalgia back when my parents would stop here with me TO AND FROM our drive to Vegas. good half way point when you're driving from Las Vegas to socal. Lots of different varieties of food for a rest stop, food.

My geocaching hobby takes me through Barstow every few months and I make it a point to stop at the station. It's great that the N bound fwy off ramp leads straight into the parking lot. I go in fingers crossed that there aren't a lot of parked tour buses. When there aren't it's easier to walk through the still crowded narrow aisles inside, between the indoor swapmeet-type booths to the restrooms. The trick is to go up the grungy carpeted steps to the upstairs restrooms. Not many others find their way there, I suspect because signs are few and in English only. Back at ground level I walk right by the inevitable line at Panda Express to Hollywood Subs at the eastern most end of the building. As of today they don't seem to have their own Yelp page. Anyway, their Philly cheesesteak is the best I've had outside of Philadelphia itself. The buns are toasted JUST-RIGHT and the meat is perfectly cooked and generously piled on. Flavorful and stringy cheese holds it all together with the peppers & onions. Yesterday, there was a new guy I'd never seen before. He forgot the peppers & onions. The sandwich was still so good that I didn't notice until I was 1/2 done so I didn't complain. As for the merchandise sold in the booths, I'd except to see the same stuff in any third world street market. I don't know why ANYONE would buy it here except maybe to quiet down their screaming kids. Barstow station is really old, dirty, and there aren't too many options in the way of food. This places gets super crowded with the flurry of tour buses and greyhound buses that stop here. read more

Fun little place to stop when driving from LA to Vegas. Not the fanciest of places... Kind of seems like a mishmash of a bunch of different stores that were added over time, which makes it fun to explore. (Especially for kids) They have a few fast food places, a dunkin donuts, and a candy/chocolate shop. Bathrooms were clean and there was no line. Lines for food varied. One minute there would be a line and it would be gone the next. Parking outside is limited but we didn't have to wait long to get a spot. read more

This location has always been a rest stop when my family takes a road trip to and from Las Vegas. I haven't visited this place in years, and when I entered the place I was surprised with how much they have grown to provide a variety of foods than just Mc Donalds. Now they also offer Wetzel's Pretzels, Panda Express, Subway, and Dunkin' Donuts. They still have the shops that sell a bunch of random novelties, but I'm glad to see that I finally have options! read more

This is our usual pitstop before Las Vegas to have a stretch break and a quick bite to eat. It's quick and convenient. For this particular stop the shops and restaurants were closed. Only McDonalds was open. We didn't arrive any later than usual, just past 9pm and it's closed! Couldn't get my Panda Express fix :( read more

It's a little oasis on the way to Vegas. Always crowded, but the food, snacks, and gifts are decent. The bathrooms are normally clean and not as crowded(which I thought they would be). When I was a kid and my family would drive out to Vegas from central CA several times a year, I would get all hyped up about a few specific points along the way. The first was the train place in Barstow (this one) and the second was the giant thermometer in Baker. No doubt, Barstow Station is good if you've got a family making a long drive. There are lots of options for food, so everyone can get what they want. Enough parking. Clean enough bathrooms. As an adult who makes this drive 4-6 times a month, I basically never stop at Barstow Station any more. I just can't with the tourists, ya know? I need to pee, grab some coffee or snacks, and get back on the road with maximum efficiency. Generally, I stop across the street at Starbucks-- the bathrooms are cleaner, the whole place is less cluttered, and I can basically main line caffeine (a huge plus on a long desert drive). read more

Stopped here on the way back to Cali as I've done many, many times in the past. I always enjoy this quirky little place. It's great pit stop between Vegas and California. We usually stop here for a bit at McDonald's. I noticed they also had a Subway Sandwich store as well as a donut store. The chocolate store looked awesome but I just wasn't in the mood for chocolates that early in the morning.
