Pleasantly surprised!!! All new renovations inside my room #122. Long lasting Hot water. Good water pressure. Microwave. Mini-fridge. Mini coffee pot with coffee kit, although cheap ingredients provided. Desk & chair. Easy check in & out procedures. Parking spot only feet from my door. No carpet! I think managers live there permanently and have a view of *most* of the parking lot 24 h/day. I'm withholding the 5th star for 5 reasons: a human hair found in bathroom, road noise is higher than expected, homeless pass through the property, the room reeked of cheap bleach upon arrival, and--worst-- there was one big fat roach crawling on the wall at midnight. I think it came in from a gap in the seal of the housing for the recessed "canned" spotlight in the ceiling. It's been cold and raining, so it was probably seeking warmth. I aired out the room at arrival and played ambient music at bedtime to drown out/mask the sound of the passing vehicles on Main Street plus the loudly talking hobos. read more

We were a little nervous at first because of all the mixed reviews and because it is still Barstow, but we were so delighted when we got here. The room was updated and the bed and appliances were new and comfortable. The owners live on site and seem nice. The place was sold out which is also a good sign I think. Very impressed with this place. Yes, of course you won't know that it's actually nice in the rooms, because it's a motel & it doesn't look appealing from the outside. To be fair, they are under construction. We were actually very lucky with one of the remodeled rooms. I actually felt comfortable. They had a microwave, fridge, flat screen tv & USB outlets on the side tables. Honestly, the "look" of the room was like IKEA. The woman there didn't know much English but was very kind & still was helpful. No problem with her at all. The only thing I didn't like was the sink was way too close to the toilet. Lol Also, the shower was a bit too small for us "big" people. But like I said, very nice look, just a little small. Also, the walls are a little thin. If we ever go to Barstow again, this is definitely the place I would stay at again. Affordable & very decent. read more

Stayed 2 nights on the weekend. If wondering why I gave it 2 stars (as it might seem like too many after reading the cons), it's because I was there spending time with my boyfriend who lives in Las Vegas currently, and that made up for it being a complete "1" experience/motel. Pros: There with my bf, able to spend time at this sort of halfway point from LA to Vegas. At night, the retro lighting makes for a cute atmosphere as we shared a smoke and chatted outside a couple of times. AC worked. Microwave and fridge worked. TV worked. Toilet worked. Had hot water. Had a good time binge watching a show and having some drinks. The walls seemed thick, I could barely hear anyone next door. Was not a busy weekend, we saw only a few cars in the lot. It felt private. They didn't hound us at 11am to get out, but I had made sure to start loading at exactly 11. Cons: First off, we booked a King room.. when we got there, they said it was unavailable/under construction, and placed us in a Queen room... My bf chose to not confront them about getting a refund for the difference in price. We settled. SMALL flatscreen TV. We never received a WiFi password, so I used my mobile hotspot. Curtains had holes/rips and light bleeds in terribly from the sides when sunlight is present. No window screen, which was also annoying to let bugs in if we wanted fresh air in the room. Cigarette burns on the sink, blanket. Huge holes in the fleece type blanket. We weren't sure if the sheets were clean but they didn't smell and looked to be clean enough to get some sleep on. The sink area and bathroom was pretty run down and nasty looking, old. Found random hairs on surfaces (like come on, you could have made sure to get at least the stray hairs dusted off before putting a new guest in it). There was also a sewer smell when running the sink at times. I bought sani wipes and wiped all surfaces we would be touching during the stay. The shower curtain seemed gross and we took care to not let it touch our bodies. I ofc wore crocs while showering. Overall, a crappy, dingy, little room. Probably one of the worst motel rooms I've ever been in despite the attempt of putting some modern pieces in there. The WORST: It was obviously an unclean, junkie and junky kinda room, but it was all doable for 2 nights at the price point, until.. we saw a ROACH come out from under the microwave. We both were like "unh-unh!" As we had just ate food on the table where the microwave sits. It had gotten away that night, and my bf tried his best to reassure me it wouldn't crawl on me in my sleep! But of course, I was still concerned, kept my belongings zipped up in my bags. Took all precautions to keep areas clean and not leave food out to encourage it to come around again. The next night, we saw it again on the microwave and he killed it. I had already decided we would never stay there again, but the roach sighting sealed the deal! The room was in a complete state of disrepair, especially the bathroom. Missing tiles, painted over shower/tub tiles, paint was peeling from them. Holes in the walls, ceiling about to come down, bathroom door splintered and scratched by animals. Floor around toilet badly stained (looked like dried vomit)? I checked in at 2am on a week night after having driven all day. The night clerk at the front desk served me in his UNDERWEAR. (No pajamas) he was actually in his UNDERWEAR! Hanes boxer briefs! White long sleeved button up shirt, unbuttoned. Seemed annoyed that I woke him up at 2am to check in? I presented the CC that I used to reserve the room. He said "Cash only". I only had a $20 bill. He pointed to the ATM in the lobby. I was able to pull the funds out of my account. The ATM fee was $3. The room was $50. Next morning a staffer knocked on my door at 9am wanting to know if I would be checking out? At checkout , I was NOT offered a receipt? I asked for a receipt and was given an excuse as to why I couldn't have one? I then pressed the desk agent again and I was finally given my receipt. Later in the afternoon, I looked at my receipt and noticed that the charge was for $49.60. I gave the night clerk $50 and they never gave me the change due of .40 cents. The property has 39 rooms. At .40 cents each room per night that totals up to $15.60 per night. Times that by 30 nights equals $468. Times that by 365 days equals $170,820. The ATM fee of $3 times 39 rooms per night equals $117. That fee times 30 nights equals $3,510. The ATM fee 39 rooms times 365 days equals $1, 280,150. Now add the 365 days of 39 rooms .40 cents plus the 365 days of 49 rooms $3 ATM fee equals $1,451,970! So, by simply nickel and diming EVERY customer, THIS property IS making potentially over 1 MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR? To have this property in such a state of disrepair, have such inappropriate customer service and employees in inappropriate dress uniform, and rudely knocking loudly on a customer's door at 9 am in the mornin, knowing that it was an extremely late check in to begin with, is unacceptable! Motel 6 is a brand that has built its solid and trusted reputation by setting a higher standard for "economy" lodging. This location has fallen extremely short of industry standards and Motel 6 expectactions. read more

Avoid This Motel at All Costs - Terrible Service & Possible Discrimination This was the worst motel and customer service experience I've ever had. Check-in Issues: I booked a king bed but was told at check-in (after a long 3-hour drive) that they didn't have any available. They offered me a queen bed instead, which I reluctantly accepted. Room Problems: * The shower didn't get hot, and the manager rudely told me to "wait 20 minutes" for it to warm up. * The sink was leaking, which I recorded on video. Refund Request Denied & False Accusations: I asked Booking.com for help, but the motel refused to give a refund. When I showed the manager the leaking sink, they falsely accused me of damaging it and became aggressive. They refused to let me speak to their boss or provide contact information. Possible Discrimination: While I don't like to assume things are about race, I couldn't ignore the difference in treatment. The manager and his wife were rude and dismissive toward me but immediately became friendly and professional with a white customer. When I calmly expressed my concern about discrimination, they didn't deny it--just brushed it off. Final Thoughts: I left and booked another motel because I couldn't trust them. They refuse refunds, falsely accuse customers of damage, and are incredibly unprofessional. Whoever owns this place should be ashamed. DO NOT BOOK HERE! read more

It feels odd to leave a 1-star review because I very rarely do it. However, this motel lied to me and totally ignored my correspondence which is incredibly unprofessional so I feel like this is my only recourse. TLDR: Booked a solo stay, was disgusted by the room and felt unsafe/uncomfortable so I left, was promised a refund even when I didn't request one, was subsequently ignored when trying to claim said refund. Beware, it's not as it looks in photos. There's some cool Route 66 paraphernalia (old cars, etc.) outside. However, the photos here (and on their website) make the rooms look super nice. That's not what I saw AT ALL. Not even close. The online photos are bright and colorful, with wall art and flowers. In reality, the room was dark (eerie dim lighting) with bare walls. It was dingy and colorless. Worst of all, there was a really strong musty smell. I immediately felt uncomfortable upon entering. It felt like the sort of creepy motel room you get murdered in. For the record, I stay in motels quite a bit so my expectations are not particularly high. Anyway, I was traveling alone so naturally, I was a bit on edge. The room made me feel uncomfortable/unsafe and to top that off, there was some strange activity in the parking lot. It looked like a family moving furniture which implies that people are likely living at the hotel. A hotel that doubles as low-income housing might not bother me as much if I were traveling with a partner/friends but flying solo? I felt uneasy. I told the front desk clerk that I wanted to check out due to the room not meeting my expectations. I mentioned feeling unsafe and being perturbed by the smell. He was very kind and apologetic. It was a friendly interaction. I told him that I was aware of the nonrefundable nature of the booking and that it was fine. To my surprise, he told me that he'd issue a refund! He told me to cancel the booking and when the booking company reaches out, he'd approve it. I followed his instructions and cancelled the booking (foregoing my booking company reward point toward a free night in order to receive the refund). I reached out to my booking company that week and was told that they needed approval from the property. They circled back three days later telling me that they were unable to reach the property (after multiple attempts). I sent an email to the motel, outlining the situation and asking for the refund. That was weeks ago. I think it's safe to say that they don't care and won't be issuing the refund. I was totally fine foregoing the refund because I was the one who left the motel (knowing about the nonrefundable nature of the booking). I would have left a higher rating if that's where it ended. However, I am not fine with being lied to and being promised a refund with a friendly face, only to be totally ignored later. I also missed out on getting a reward point with the booking company (I ended up just finishing the drive to LA that night). If I knew I wouldn't get the refund, I'd have kept the reservation to receive the reward point. Anyway, if you choose to stay here, just be warned. The rooms are dingy, the hotel doesn't feel safe, and the service is unprofessional. read more

This is a very inexpensive hotel that I just stayed at for the night while traveling through. The room I got was nicely remodeled. My only complaint is when I got up to take a shower the next day the water barely got hot. It was lukewarm so I had to blast the heater to warm up the room before I got in because I was freezing and while I was in there I noticed 2 little holes in the wall of the shower which I filled with toilet paper just to be safe. read more

The office was empty, no one to check me in. I waited for an hour, and called every phone number I could fine. Had hotels.com try to call them - no answer. I had to go down to Motel 6 which was very pleasant and affordable. Route 66 motel refused to refund my money. Very unsafe, dishonest. This motel interested me because of all the fun rustic memorabilia on the outside of the property. My room was cute, clean, remodeled. Everything was fine till I paid to stay an additional nite to visit Peggy Sue Restaurant for breakfast, visit Route 66 Museum & explore murals. I was locked out as owner neglected to rekey when I paid for an additional night & the owners (family) were gone from premises. It was reconciled once they returned but no apologies. Next morning as I was packing up to leave, the wind blew door shut with key inside. At 8:00 am, I tried for over an hour to raise someone, even calling number online to no avail. After more than an hour, owner came into office, very angry I had "disrespected" (her words via interpreting app on her phone) them by knocking, pounding on door, window. I tried to apologize & explain to no avail. She would not look at me, opened my room door & left. I stayed at this property once before under different management & had planned to possibly stay again in the future. Now since I know Customer Service isn't a priority, I will not stay again & just want to warn others, even the price is right, BEWARE & don't inadvertently lock your key inside on a weekend. What a delightful surprise this little gem was! Route 66 Motel in Barstow typifies the old Southwest, complete with beautifully arranged vintage cars and and other memorabilia! Clean rooms, feather pillows, great AC, fast internet, very affordable at $62 for one guest on a Sunday night. (I didn't try out the TV, which includes HBO.) Stop here for the night and you'll feel confident that you've gotten the Route 66 experience! Cant say enough about this super cool place! read more

We needed to book this room as the weather was not cooperating with our camping in a tent. We were dirty and needed to get out of the wind. Found this cute place, it was the right price, and looked charming. I went to check in, and had to ring the door bell 3 times, allowing for two minutes or so between rings. Walked to car after last one, but staff ran up to me to check us in. The room was quite small as it was a much older establishment. It had a queen sized bed, side tables with USB and power outlets built-in which was convenient. A large TV, good cable channels offered, refrigerator, microwave and some shelves. The bathroom was small: toilet, shower and a nifty sink that was perfect for its space. Other reviews said smells were found or noisy or unsafe, but I didn't feel that way at all. The pictures shown on this Yelp are obviously of the larger rooms. Not unhappy at all. A top star stay for a classic Route 66 motor inn... Everything was fine and comfortable until check-out time.... We were aware we were behind in time, but at 11am there was a knock on the door and the lady began yelling that we were not out and housekeeping needed to start (only 7 rooms appeared available in this place during this renovation). I asked for 10 minutes, during which she still was yelling that we were not out. She came back 12 minutes later as we were in the process of clearing out, and proceeded to yell at us some more wasting our time in trying to get out of her way. The instant yelling was completely unnecessary, unprofessional and not appreciated. The amount of time that she was yelling from the get-go we could have been getting out. The return of the yelling continued in not being able to conform to her request because she wouldn't shut up and let us finish the last 3 minutes we needed. And she wasn't even the one cleaning the rooms. I would have given the place a 10/10 review until the knock happened. This was a horrible and stressful way to start the day. We understand they needed to clean the rooms, but in no way was someone tapping their toe waiting for us to vacate. When we arrived at almost 3pm, there were people being asked to leave. It looked like they were moving a lot of stuff out of a room and had to chase a couple of dogs around. Maybe they have a problem with people overstaying their welcome, don't know, but don't assume all people are going to squat on your property. read more

Stayed here at the start of an Eastbound trip along Route 66 with all of my personal belongings crammed into a Honda Civic for a cross-country move. The owners were friendly and accommodating, and offered to provide food recommendations, although we'd already eaten. Nothing fancy about the room, but nothing at all wrong with it either, and it included a decent TV to watch some football and solid A/C unit that cooled the room down in 10-15 minutes. The room and the entire hotel grounds, with a nice little courtyard and a great neon sign, felt perfectly safe & comfortable, which was very welcome between two long days of driving with a very full car! We stayed in a 2-bed room, so there weren't round beds, but it was still a bit of that classic motel experience, and for half the price of the chains on the edge of town! read more

Horrible. Do NOT stay here. The photos looked decent online but it's LOUD. The first room he gave us was HORRIBLE and the heater didn't work and he spent a good 10min thinking he was going to fix it and keep us there. Then the second room seemed a little better but the heater sounds like a air compressor, the fridge rattles, tweaker in the parking lot. Oh and our trailers brake light got busted threw out the night and the owner did nothing about it. For a two bed room we only got two towels. The pillows are flat and you only get one per person. Very cheap and ran down place to stay! Go up the road instead. read more

I have to confess that I was drawn in by the kitschy appearance and the glitzy neon sign advertising round beds, HBO and wi-fi. The rooms were clean enough - though the bed has obviously had a few years on it and the linens didn't fit on it quite right. Our feet were chilly - and the base of the bed had a strange leg or piece of lumber sticking out. The room looked as though the owners had attempted some low-budget piecemeal remodeling - new tile, some paint - but the "bath mat" was a piece of paper with a swan on it that said "bath mat" on it! The towels were pretty shabby as were the other linens and furniture. However, the managers were friendly people and had cute dogs. They gave me a blow dryer when I asked for it, and their apartment off the check in office smelled like curry & incense. There were no roaches or signs of any other bugs and with a new microwave, tv and mini-fridge, I'd say we got our $45 worth for the night. read more

Very friendly Indian owner, who has spent a lot of time decorating and putting his heart into this place. Its a simple motel, but feels just like what s motel on route 66 should feel like. Disgusting!!! We got a hotel for the night and the first room stunk of cigarettes. I asked the guy for another room and told me it probably smelled like that from the previous people. You're telling me you don't clean your room and check them especially right now. We got the second room and there were cigarette burns on the blankets and the shower curtain had brown stains that looked like it hasn't been changed. We couldn't spend the night in there and I asked the guy if I could at least have a discount. He told me to contact Booking since I did it on there and when booking tried to contact him he said there was nothing wrong with his rooms! Then refused to answer any calls! I stayed here for 3 nights and had a great time wandering around route 66 in Barstow. The owners are so helpful and accommodating and also give fantastic restaurant recommendations.I loved all the vintage cars outside , the lit up palm trees and that I was able to park right in front of my room. They also have a very interesting route 66 museum located next to the historic Harvey House. I would definitely love to stay here again! read more

We were so excited to stay here...when we arrived the outside of the building was clean and loved the decor...staff was very nice...our room was very clean and comfortable...the toilet was leaking and there was a huge puddle in the bathroom but the property manager fixed it right away...when we got back the toilet wouldn't flush so we called and they put us in another room...as soon as I walked in this room I knew I couldn't stay in it...it was filthy and the cigarette smoke smell was horrific...this time I called to tell them I'd stay in the room with the broken toilet but the didn't answer...went to the office where the lady looked annoyed...she put us in another room...it was cleaner than the second room...but it smelled dirty but not smoky...we were so tired we just went to bed...standing on the floor made our feet black...there was black mold in the bathroom...there was old blood on the shower curtain...looked like there was cocaine on the bathroom floor...there was no remote control for the TV...the air conditioner was loud and smelled horrible...the curtains were ripped...there was only 2 pillows...guess u get what u pay for...did not look like the pictures on the website...when u ask ur man to look under the covers before u lay down u know it's bad!!! read more

If I was going to drive Route 66. There is one place I would sleep the night away. Route 66 in my car, no seriously, this place. So awesome and so comfortable. I would tell you to keep driving to Las Vegas but you would miss something very 66. UPDATE: I recently stayed at this motel. I all the artifacts and old cars along the property. Reminds me stories my father told me about the history of Route 66. I watched CARS and was surprised by how all this history is still here for me to stand on. The manager is absolutely amazing at this place!!! I forgot my glasses in the room and called back to have them shipped. The manager, Mr. Shandil, was MORE than accommodating when there were some problems (caused by me) shipping my glasses. I offered to pay him an additional service fee for inconvenience but he refused on the grounds that he is committed to excellent customer service. This is OUTSTANDING customer service, worthy all the stars possible! I got my glasses today, and they were wrapped immaculately to protect them from damage. We checked in with out seeing the room. I wish we would have. We went into 117 it smelled horrible. We found several mouse feces pieces along the wall and carpet. While the price is very reasonable, the experience was not. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. I felt unsafe. I felt like the employees were on the take. We complained via a phone call and were not offered a refund in any form. Luckily we found an opening down the street at Best Western only $20 more. Left the key in the disgusting room and bailed. What a shame as we had hoped to get the old timey Route 66 vibe! read more
