Located right in the heart of Washington Square on Beacon Street is a convenient spot for Bartaco. I came here for a late lunch and waited at the front entrance for a while. It would have been nice to have a sign that said seat yourself as the bartender waved me in and told me to sit wherever. A server came over and let me know their tacos are quite small so people usually order 3-5 per person and that I can put the blue card up if I need anything. You order from the QR code in the middle of the table and it was interesting to see that the first option to pay was using Amazon Pay. If you forget to close your tab they will automatically charge your card on file with an additional 18% for tip. I got the tuna tatako, glazed pork belly, chili lime shrimp, and sesame ribeye taco. The chili lime shrimp has quite a spicy kick to it. I enjoyed the sesame ribeye and the tuna tatako with the combination of flavors mixed together. I have been meaning to try Bartaco, and boy was I happy to finally find the time to come! I came in around 2pm in the afternoon on a Saturday, and there were plenty of seats available. There is a QR code on the table that allows you to place your order directly, which I found really convenient. I ordered the small trio + chips, duck birria with broth, baja fish taco, and sesame ribeye taco. The duck birria taco and baja fish taco were amazing! The broth that accompanied the birria was thick and full of flavor. The taco itself is rich in color, indicating that it has soaked up the broth nicely, and you can see the generous amount of cheese and duck stuffed in each mini piece. Although the taco itself looked a bit too burnt, it did not affect the flavor, so that is good. The baja fish taco was also amazing. The breading was perfect with a nice crisp on the outside while not overly thick as you bite into the soft and moist meat of the fish. The sesame ribeye tasted fine but just seemed lackluster in comparison. The small trio was not bad; I enjoyed the variety of sauces present. The chips were circular and kind of thin, making it easy to break off. The service was amazing! Everyone is so nice and happy to explain anything we need. Although we could order on the phone, they will stop by to give recommendations. The server who helped pack up the sauce trio even offered us additional free chips to eat alongside it. The place itself is nicely decorated, and you can sit comfortably and take your time chatting and eating without any pressure. The waiter messed up our order multiple times. I spoke to the manager and he was barely any help. I told him of my allergies and all my food came out wrong again. He told us he would "fix it and take care of us" which he did not do. When it was time to pay we had to pay for everything including the things I was allergic to and didn't eat. maybe if the manger was focused on his job and not trying to make it a party we would have enjoyed it. A loyal fan of Bartaco Seaport, decided to check out the new Bartaco in Brookline. It's amazing manager Greg rubs a tight ship, always aiming to please and the food remains excellent and tasty. Our go-tos are the Pork Belly and Fish tacos, finished with gelato cones. The two-level space is great, and the decor is a lighter version of Seaport's. For the first night, the place was full within the first half hour. I sense this will be just as popular as the one in the Seaport. read more

We got on the waitlist before we left so got seated as soon as we got there. Our table was in the back corner and service was affected (we had to wave or yell to get any attention from wait staff). Usually when I go to a Bartaco I have a great time but unfortunately can't say the same about the Brookline location! We ordered via the QR code and paid for it and was getting the wrong items sent to us & our order ended up taking longer than we'd like. Process to pay and order instead of verbally telling someone or checking off a list (such as when you sit at the bar) is my kind of style, maybe old fashioned! They did however make it up by giving us a couple of free tacos for our next meal which was very nice of them to do all things considered! Bartaco always has great drinks (freshly juiced citrus made to order) and delicious tacos. The plantains are also fantastic. The vibes are great, too, with a lively bar and upbeat music in a modern, casual setting. The service is my only critique with Bartaco. Because you order on your phone, you don't really have one server taking care of you. This has caused issues when food takes too long or there are missing items. On multiple occasions, food has taken a shockingly long amount of time to get to the table, and the staff is always apologetic, but I don't know why they can't get it quite right. One workaround is to sit at the bar -- you order with staff if you're at the bar so this might be a better experience than sitting at the tables. If Bartaco can consistently show up in its service and food timing then they'll earn 5 stars without a doubt. read more

Great spot if you're craving some tacos and new ambience! We really enjoyed the fish and beef tacos. I loved how the fish balance out with everything. I would skip the rice bowl and fried oysters tacos next time personally because I didn't think it was worth it. The plantains were delicious and perfectly cooked. They lose one star for two things-- One, it was a little too loud in there--hard to hear the people you are dining with talk. Two, pls don't make people order their food on your Q code app or a sheet of paper (insert eye roll). Pros: - Solid food - Nice interior/ambiance Cons: - long wait times (even when the rush died down) - lackluster service We were seated at a table which didn't have any utensils and napkins, so I had to grab them from a different table. Also we ordered esquites and they didn't arrive even after we received our tacos. I put the card up so that staff would help us and there were two separate workers who made eye contact with us but didn't approach our table. After waiting in total 35+ min for the esquites, I walked towards the kitchen to grab the attention of an employee and asked where the esquites was. The worker walked towards the kitchen and asked our original server and he responded to her that they were out and they both turned away from me out of embarrassment. Eventually the manager of the establishment had to tell me that they were out and if we wanted corn on the cob he could get that ready for us. At this point I was pretty upset by the lackluster service and the workers not telling us earlier that they were out of esquites, so I told him to just remove the item out of our check. The manager came to our table a few minutes later and while in the process of walking away from our table, apologized for the mistake and didn't give us even a chance to respond. It was my first time in Bartaco. They had recently opened in Brookline. I was unfamiliar with the menu and while the waitress was nice, she was not that helpful. I ordered two taco. the beef and the pulled pork. It would have been helpful if she had told me that the tacos were very small. The pork was tasty the beef was flavor less and tough. it took a long time to get our food the waitress never came back ager delivering our food. is she had i might have ordered more items. When i finished my two tiny tacos we finally got waitress attention and just asked for the check i left hungry and went to Pinos and got a slice. That was filling. First things first, get there early. I went with my fiance and two friends yesterday (Saturday evening on the night of huge rainfall), and it was POPPING (around 545pm). There's no reservations but there is a wait-list / seats at the bar are first come first serve. The aesthetic was very Jersey Shore (the good parts, not the show) with lots of blues and whites, driftwoody wicker coverings for the overhead lights, and beach art of tracks left in the sand of various sea birds. I did not get a cocktail but the pomegranate lemonade was very good and pretty. In terms of food we started with the: - street corn (two halfish corns on the cob, decent but not as good as the GOAT Lone Star Taco Bar) - guac + Roja + Verde + Chips (delicious and slightly chunky, ok but surprisingly vinegary, very interesting with lots of cilantro taste but looked like some version of a Korean seaweed salad, and their chips come in large circular form but well salted, respectively) - esquites (corn off the cob, tasted better than the street corn imo, tasted good w the chips) - duck tacos (good serving of duck for the price but no delicious crispy duck skin unfortunately), pork belly tacos (I got a serving with pork pieces that varied a lot in meat:fat ratio and thankfully my last bite was a nice combo of both after starting with a mostly meat ratio), Baja fish taco (the fish is cod and good overall but not as good as the GOAT Lone Star Taco Bar), crispy oyster taco (best of the four imo with crispy exterior and fresh oyster interior) - tres leches for dessert (the caramel on top was strange, thicker than I expected and kind of grainy as you can kind of see in my picture, but overall it was very good, not too sweet) The ordering was all electronic and the service was great. We were attended by multiple servers but our primary one, Ryan, was very attentive to us and didn't leave us wanting. Lastly the music was pretty loud but we were also directly under the speaker but still it got pretty loud during some of the night. You must. 1) scan a QR code to see a menu. 2) the menu is out of date. 3) to pay, you must enter a phone number. 4) wait for a confirmation code. 5) enter and store a credit card in the restaurant's payment system or use Amazon's payment system. If you have a question about the menu, one is directed to put a card on a stand to flag for help. But because the ordering system is self-serve, the restaurant is understaffed and it takes a while for a person to show up. Our person was then unable to answer a question about the menu because, obviously they aren't here to interact with customers, but rather "run" the orders. Obviously, this establishment's business model is predicated on the sale of personal information to increase their profit margin. It is purely unethical. If this weren't bad enough, the food is expensive, is unattractively plated, and doesn't taste good -- It is too salty and sweet by turns. read more

Respectfully, some friends and I had a comically bad experience seated at the bar. When I first arrived, I added my phone number to the waiting list, which was supposed to be up to 30 minutes. We found seats at the bar, which we ended up taking instead. One of the bartenders told us there weren't any more tables available for the rest of the night, so it was our best bet to sit there. (I got a text from the waiting list after 45 minutes saying there were still no tables). We placed our orders with the bartender through the paper menu checklist. After about 45 minutes, I asked the bartender to check on my order for a poke rice bowl. He said he would immediately. He told me he had missed it and I apologized- no issue. After another 20 minutes, I asked if I could have it to go. It has been almost 90 minutes at this point. I got the food a few minutes later, but it was missing rice. The bartender told me it didn't come with rice, even though I thought I ordered a rice bowl. He said he would bring a side of rice, despite it. We asked for our check twice, and when we got it, it wasn't itemized so we couldn't see what we were charged for. We asked for a complete receipt, and saw that we had been charged for multiple orders we didn't place, including several different versions of the poke bowl. The manager was very kind and changed our check immediately. After waiting a few more minutes for the side of rice, we decided to leave without it. I don't think this was the manager's fault. This place is great. Service is always quick and easy, staff is overly friendly, and the food and drinks are good. I will say it might feel like you're ordering a lot of food when you're placing orders on your phone but keep in mind these tacos are typically 2 (for guys) or 3 (for girls) bites. As a guy, 4 tacos and an appetizer sounds like a lot, but I promise you won't look like a crazy person when they bring out your food. This location has a lot of unique lobster dishes that are very good. Atmosphere is awesome and I enjoy not having to rely on a waiter/waitress for my food. You order on your phone, (or via a paper copy of the menu if you prefer it), and place orders as you prefer. You can order 10 tacos and 3 drinks and then decide you want 4 more after finishing your food. And you will get it just as quick as you ordered it the first time. I ordered a 20-person party pack to serve at home for an indoor/outdoor gathering with friends. The quality and taste of the food, the service/ordering experience, and the value for money were all excellent. We had the Tamarind Duck, Ribeye, and Baja Fish Tacos - all were excellent in terms of quality of the protein and how the meat was prepared. Each also came with its own unique and tasty sauce or side. Kimchi for the beef, Baja slaw for the fish and tamarind sauce for the duck. Our friends unanimously loved the food which says a lot because our crew is used to amazing home cooked food at gatherings. There were TONS of sides as well - Asian slaw, multiple salsas, rice, black beans, chips and guac. And the best part was the Mexican corn on the cob - amazing! Everything was flavorful. The other thing about taco bars is that they can accommodate pretty much every conceivable dietary restriction. They tend to be gluten and nut free by nature. Since they are make your own, individuals can choose to make it dairy free, vegetarian, etc. while still being tasty and offering lots of variety. For ordering, it's best to call, as I found the smaller family packs, not the party packs, on the website. Mike and Greg were incredibly helpful and friendly. Everything was packed well in third and half aluminum trays and little round tubs and Greg helped me put it all in the car (and offered to personally run anything over to me if I found something missing). The value for money would be tough to beat. A full dinner for 20 people at less than $400. I highly recommend and would do this again. Finally, I saw the space for the first time when I went in to pick up. It's really nice - white shiplap, navy accents, cute logo, multi-tiered, plantings, etc. I'd definitely like to dine in soon with my family. read more
