Went for breakfast while visiting Red Bluff - saw Marty Stuart at the State Theater the night before (8/23). We were looking for a place we'd never been and liked the reviews of Bartels. The food did not disappoint! We each had the banana nut bread French toast, with bacon and egg or sausage. Nice thick slices topped with fresh banana slices and really good walnuts. Our server suggested topping with honey instead of syrup and it was a great combo. Located in a historic building, wish I spent more time checking out the murals lining the patio - we ate inside due to the rising temperature. :) Server very friendly and coffee was also good! read more

A little slow but we were the only ones and she wasn't trying to rush us but with a kid it was giving her time to explore (upsetting her dad-not I) we were sitting on the side patio and there was so much to see and read on the mural that no one would have been bothered even if they had been busy. The decor was absolutely beautiful! The outdoor patio was gorgeous! Staff was super friendly! My daughter had the mushroom burger delicious and good size. I had a regular burger it did seem small but it was good. Bathroom was clean! And they have an espresso machine! Didn't Try it but I will next time. Lots of different items on the menu! As we were headed back from camping to go back home in the Bay Area we stopped at Bartels The service at Bartels is where they truly excel. From the moment we were greeted at the door, the staff made us feel like VIPs. Our server was incredibly attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and quick to accommodate our requests. The fact that we had our little dog might have been a bother at other places but they welcomed our little one and gave her water and attention The presentation of each dish was impeccable, echoing the restaurant's aesthetic appeal. the food was certainly not bad, it lacked the wow factor that the rest of the restaurant seemed to promise. The dishes were adequately prepared but failed to leave a lasting impression. In conclusion, Bartels offers an outstanding environment and top-notch service that sets a high standard. Called in an order right when they opened. Had asked for the loco moco but with country gravy instead of brown and sausage patty instead of beef. Go to pick it up, walk in the cooks doing his thing and I'm standing there a few minutes, he looks at me like 5 times, doesn't say anything walks to the back and grabs someone else. Like okay? And then when getting my order they tell me oh we don't have the brown gravy that comes with this? Well that's fine cuz we asked for country on it anyways. And they put a beef patty on it still and brown rice when it said made with white. And aside from my order being wrong, the only other customer in there sitting down to eat is complaining about his burrito. read more

How can you possibly get breakfast wrong? Friendly staff but the food was so sad. My "scrambled eggs" were a mush texture because they use a liquid egg. (Verified by server). Had to send back and asked "will you please take this off my check". That didn't happen. Server said he thought I asked to have them taken off the table. Ok, let's say that's what he heard- why didn't you take it off the check anyway?! $3 "egg", big deal, I know, but come on! Biscuits and gravy were edible but the biscuits were just far too sweet so it tasted a little weird with gravy. If you're a B&G connoisseur you'll be disappointed in the unusual dark tan gravy. Banana bread (to go) was extremely weak and seemed like a box mix. My husband's toast (like previous reviewer's comment) broke like a cracker when trying to spread cold, hard butter. These may seem like petty gripes but it was a lousy start to our day of travel. Too many corners cut for what could've been a yummy meal. Upside: coffee quite good. I sure hate to leave a bad review on a small biz, but had more people left honest reviews for them they would have saved us the bummer breakfast experience. read more

Order chicken fried steak, eggs over easy and their potatoes with sourdough bread. Chicken fried steak was.....ok, I guess? Egg way under cooked and whites still runny. Potatoes were good. Bread was dry and broke like a cracker. Banana walnut French toast- ok but two basic pieces of bread with sliced banana and some walnuts thrown on top was it. Eggs and bacon ok. Kids pancake, scrambled eggs and bacon. Looked ok. Pancakes are frozen ones from Walmart, which the kid likes anyways. Kids meal was so early he was done before we saw food. French toast came out a couple months before scrambled eggs and bacon and had chocolate wiped all under the plate. I have no interest in returning, but our server did her best. read more

Excellent freshly made burgers. They have outdoor seating for large groups and smaller tables inside. The real deal, no microwave stuff like the chain fast food restaurants. I was excited to try Bartels because we love their other restaurants. It is so nicely decorated. I'm very impressed with that. I am disappointed however in the food. The burgers aren't the same as the rest of the other restaurants. The burger patty seemed like it was a once frozen flat over cooked patty. The fries weren't that good. The ahi nachos I got has so much dressing on it, didn't have the seaweed salad and the wantons were over cooked and in strips so I couldn't eat it properly. The ahi tuna was supposed to be seared and it was over cooked instead. The other salad we got had minimal toppings on it and little amount of chicken. I expected better. I hope they improve their food so I feel like it would be worth the price to go to them again. read more

Just took my husband to the new Bartels in red bluff an was so disappointed. He ordered the giant burger with jalapeños (they forgot those), his fries and burger where room temp. and soggy. I ordered the cheeseburger w/o onions (came with NO cheese an HAD onions) they took it back to fix it an it came back with a cold slice of cheese and my burger was also room temp (like they have been sitting around for 20 min) which was how long we had to wait for our food. I ordered a chicken burger that came with literally just extremely dry chicken on a bun. The menu on the top says that burgers come with mayo lettuce tomato onion etc. When I got the burger the staff was nice but seemed confused about why I was asking for the tomatoes and lettuce that comes on the burger? Super weird. She brought me back a bowl of arugula when I brought up the issue, but seemed very confused and said they don't normally "do that" when I asked for the components that make this a burger. I think I paid around $13 after tax and tip for this lol. Also it was about 90 degrees outside and there was no AC. I ate a dry chicken arugula bread burger inside an ~85 degree restaurant. 2 stars because waitress was nice even when I was confused/not happy. read more

U can't go wrong with the name like BARTELS, however besides traditional burgers and shakes, this Bartels has an expanded menu that includes AHI TUNA... KETO choices and much more. There is also live music Friday and Saturday nights as they have recently expanded their hours. Originally 7am-3pm they are open till 9pm Friday and Saturday nights. Located on Walnut st street tucked between Dollar General and the Trading Post (across the st. from the Vineyard church) This place has a WESTERN FLAIR that I fell in love with! cozy and inviting atmosphere, with plenty of seating inside AND out. We ate outside on the patio and the weather couldnt have been more accommodating. This place even serves BEER!! ( YEE! HAW!) The only drawback is the parking. It can be a bit confusing as the TRADING POST doesn't want u using their parking spaces... tho after hours I can't imagine it being an issue. Or u can park in the street or the dollar general parking lot (not sure if they mind or not... prolly not!) the bathroom was very clean(that's a super good sign to me!) and this place is handicapped accessible. Sat for over an hour after our order was taken. The kitchen decided to change the fril.over to lunch, but they then decided to take an order for breakfast which means changing the grill back over. The. Once again back over for lunch, we walked out without food after over an hour and it had not been started yet. A total of 3 tables occupied at the restaurant, we were last out of all them to arrive & their orders already being cooked on the grill at that. Mind you, we come once a week at least typically for takeout since we never get off work early enough to sit in the restaurant to eat. Different gal than usual was working, dark dark reddish hair, had a nice disposition. We ordered classic burgers, fries, & milkshakes & decided to dine in because it was about 6:25 pm (I double checked the time we left our house on my cameras to confirm this time(;) so we figured that was plenty of time to eat there since the other patrons were just waiting for their food. We got our food really quickly, within ten minutes of ordering! The gal serving us said that the ice cream was really difficult to scoop from being in the freezer so she was just going to let it sit out a couple of minutes, which I totally understand!... until it's 6:53 & only my husband had his milkshake made & instead the gal supposedly serving us is having a full conversation with someone at the counter who must be a manager, or have something to do with the restaurant because after my husband finally got up just to pay our tab so we could go, he noticed her collecting a ton of menus & chatting about the business like she was familiar in some type of way... it took the cook walking by to notice us STARING at our server to ask if we needed anything (probably cause they were trying to get out of there since they were closing in MINUTES) & he went to go let our server know we still needed one more shake made & see what was the hold up & she ROLLED her eyes as he was asking what was going on... yes, I saw that by the way. I've worked in the food industry, the retail industry, & healthcare, & I understand getting the hang of a job, learning a routine, but being disrespectful due to your own negligence of time when you were trying to clean up to close & serve ONE table with only two meals... not okay. The other girls that we have had as servers are amazing!!! Even one who popped out of nowhere as we were leaving made sure to wish us a good evening, but this one must've been having an off day, because I hope she doesn't think it's okay to be standoffish & disrespectful to patrons that can SEE your reactions... just super disappointing since we live in red bluff & have been coming here since they opened! We will even drive to Corning if it's too late to order at this one, and every time we've gone to Corning it's always been well worth it. But I think this was our last visit with the red bluff one... maybe work on ensuring employees understand how to provide kind customer service... like an apology from our waitress would've been nice after all that... read more

My old co worker insisted on eating here to celebrate our 60th b-days. We met on 12/22/23 @ 6pm. I arrived 1st and absolutely nobody was in the restaurant. A gal named Emily seated me as I wait for my friend. I got a beer while I waited. Long story short the service was so bad and the burger I ordered was awful. Another couple came in so there was a total of 2 tables, 2 people at each table. They got their food before us, yet we were there 1st. Emily brought out my burger but not my friends dinner. My fries were cold and the burger looked gross. I waited for my friend to get het meal and by that time mine meal was ice cold. A half hour my food sat on the table. When she did come I told her I did not want the burger, Dont re heat it, don't make me another, I will just drink my beer it was ice cold now and why did'nt we get out meals at the same time?!?!?! She stated she was way behind????? with 2 tables???? She took my plate. When she returned with my friends SALAD she brought me another burger, I TOLD HER I DIDNT WANT ANOTHER WHEN SHE TOOK THE 1ST PLATE!!!!! HELLOOOOOO! I didnt eat it, nor did she take it off the bill. My friend ordered a bottle of champagne to celebrate when she arrived. It was getting close to 7, when they close, we were finishing up our champagne and she was bringing in the tables from outside, then they turned the lights off on us. I mean how rude is that!!!!!!! You finish up your patrons and wait for them to leave, you DONT turn off the lights on customer. I will never go there again, I tell everyone in town how the service and food sucked! I mean 2 tables 4 people and you could handle that, WOW. Cant imagine when its packed(if it ever is) How they handle a crowed.
