Tasty little breakfast spot with friendly fast service. I ordered the "Toast" breakfast that was two eggs, two bacon, and I got a biscuit instead of toast. Everything was cooked as I ordered it and the biscuit was pretty good. My husband ordered the $10 chicken fried steak breakfast (smaller portion) and he said it was tasty and just the right amount of food. Coffee was pretty standard diner coffee, nothing great, but not burnt. My egg adverse spouse had a burger that she said was delicious. But I wanted to comment on the humble fruit cup. A small thing but I have never had a better fruit cup. Fresh berries, bananas. We stopped in Red Bluff during a trip back from SF, arriving late at night. As such, we got a super late start on Monday morning (afternoon). After loading our car, I groggily searched on Yelp for something interesting for breakfast, and landed on Tremont Cafe. This cafe stood out as being a local business and focused on classic American breakfast fare. Tremont Cafe is situated among the historic downtown buildings in Red Bluff. A charming area. We were greeted warmly as soon as we set foot in the door. Despite it being 30 mins to close when we arrived, our server provided kind, patience service. We each were able to order breakfast items at 130pm (yay!) and I was able to get my much delayed morning coffee with ample refills. We enjoyed our eggs, coffees and gawked at the historic photos and local lore on the walls in the cafe. We even bought a piece of art from a local artist that was hanging in the dining space. Thanks for the hospitality and warm service during our travels. You helped us recover from a long night of driving. We'll come back! read more

On a vacation from Montana back to our home in California, we decided to try a cafe Instead of the usual chain restaurants. The Tremont Cafe in Red Bluff was fantastic. It was easy off road and back on. The staff greeted us promptly and our order were taken. I had a omelette with country potatoes. I've been to a lot of places, but this was probably the best. Tremont Cafe is your typical small town local diner, serving breakfast and lunch till 3pm. Parking is on the street, but really not a prob in this town. This is just the kind of place you wanna order something you don't get in big cities with fancy organic breakfasts and long lines out the door. I ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast. Growing up in San Diego, the only place you'd hear of Chicken Fried Steak was at some truck stop being eatin by burly guys holding their forks and knives in strange ways. But traveling around now, I've come to appreciate a good (prob unhealthy), Chicken Fried Steak, and Tremont does a mighty fine version here. Served with some really good hashbrowns and 2 eggs anyway you like. I had mine over easy and they were perfect. My friend had an omelet served with the hashbrowns as well. We ordered the Mini Tremont (breakfast potatoes, bacon 1 egg and toast) and the Pancake plate that came with bacon and an egg. Mini Tremont - Egg over medium was perfect. Bacon was super fatty and limp. Potatoes were the frozen flavorless O'Brien kind. Really disappointing. I opted for the sourdough toast which tasted off. Like the butter had turned sour or something it was terrible. Pancake Plate - pancake was okay but the first bite tasted funny and it was underdone. Scrambled egg looked more like a flavorless omelet and my daughter asked for crispy bacon and it literally came out petrified. I have been here to the Tremont a number of times with some friends of mine. This is a great family owned and operated digs with friendly upbeat staff. The food is tasty, check out their deals. The most recent time I came was with a large party of 30+ people for breakfast. The prime rib and eggs were on special that day- I also got a English muffin and a bowl of fruit (watching my diet) even with a large party our service was prompt, the price was right and the company was the best. The place was great. The food was OK. We ordered 2 Traditional Eggs Benedict with hash brown and regular potato for breakfast. The potato was so dry, I felt like they cook it ahead of time and just reheated it in a microwave because it was so dry, hard, and burned. This was a perfectly pleasant stop on our I-5 road trip. An old fashioned diner with sandwiches, burgers and ice cream and small town friendly service. Our server definitely knew everybody else in the place and was getting in their business (in a warm way), scolding the teenagers and reminding them to head back to class on time. "I will call your mother!" The food was OK and in addition to the standard deep fried sides, they have a basic salad bar and a couple of soups. Certainly not the best food we ate on the trip, but everything was fine. Downtown Red Bluff is a bit off I-5, but it was a relatively straight forward exit and return to the freeway on the main road that runs parallel to the freeway.
