My parents had bought their plots at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens when I was in high…read moreschool (i'm 50) so I had little input on that. But when my mother died, I was relieved and THRILLED (and who is thrilled in a time like this?) that we decided to trust them with the entire service. Karen and Paul could not have been more wonderful. They were on call for everything. We were never treated like an object or a number. They reacted quickly, on the weekend, and were on call 24 hours a day to make sure we had everything we needed. They heard all of our concerns, worked with any limitations we had, and -- beyond-- went the extra mile. At the last minute, when they overheard that one of my siblings couldn't come in, they arranged for a livestream so he could watch the service. The way they staged the room with the utmost care and attention to detail, really making it feel like a celebration of her life. When we expressed concern that the displays showcasing her life really needed to look like *her* and not like other tables in the lobby, the woman who designs them asked for photos of her home and living room, and painstakingly worked with us to make sure it was exactly what we envisioned. When I walked in and saw my mother's art, photos, even papers she had graded as a teacher and recipe cards on the tables, I actually gasped. It was so perfect. There were never any technical glitches in the service, we never felt like we were being "upsold", all the necessary "business" aspects were handled tactically and discreetly and respectfully. At the end of our first meeting, Karen gave us her card and said, "Call or text anytime, this is just five days to put this together, and I am on call for you during that whole time." As if we were the only funeral happening during that week, and as if it's the only time she's ever worked on a funeral. I'm not sure how she sustains that work life balance permanently, but this is clearly not just a job to her and Paul and everyone on their team, but a *calling.* I cannot recommend this team highly enough if you should have to go through the worst thing I have ever gone through in my life.

This was likely the loveliest funeral service I've attended. My grandmother's photos, artwork, and…read morememorabilia were displayed beautifully and thoughtfully, exceeding my expectations. The team was kind and accommodating. Following the committal service I asked about picking up my grandmother's framed items for the reception at my home; I'd forgotten to mention it before then. Paul let me know that the items were to be catalogued and packed for pick up later that afternoon but the team gracefully met my last-minute request. By the time I got back to my car, the framed items and flower arrangements were carefully prepared for travel. I am so grateful for the support this team provided through this challenging time for my family.

Mother-in-law does not have internet, computer or cell phone. After talking to manager, they refused to give street address and said i can find it online. There are three chapels available for services (livestream is at your request only), and a spacious well lit area for the repast. A funeral is expensive, and I like that Serenity offers several packages to choose caskets, urns, limo service, flowers, programs, meals for the repast, and other preferences for your service. **Note that programs and burial services are through a third party. The cemetery is your choice and there IS one less than 5 minutes (literally 3 right turns) from Serenity. The programs were well put together, and you review before the final print. You also preview the body before visitation, and the mortician did a BEAUTIFUL job! My significant hangup with Serenity is the lack of organization amongst the staff. The staff was friendly, but with every visit we had to speak with a different person. This made for significant slip ups on the numbers, missing our same day burial date (even though it worked out in the end), misinformation on updates, program reviews, and information with the cemetery that was thankfully caught by us before signing the final copy! I believe having ONE liaison would've been best to keep information timely, accurate and give us as clients more confidence in the employee. Despite the lack of organization with the staff, the service was amazing. It left a great impression with us, the family and other guests. The chapel was beautiful and she looked gorgeous. The repast was classy and food excellent. I consider the experience with the staff a lesson in how to plan for next time. I'll leave a few tips here: 1. Know what the person wants before their passing. Awkward, but the guiding light for planning and budgets. It's VERY easy to let your feelings write the checks. Remember, it IS a business. 2. Take a friend or family member(s), preferably with funeral planning experience and knew the deceased. Serenity also has sample obituaries so you can see sizes and how the colors look on print. 3. Stay on top of information, even if you have to go over it again and again and again before you sign a final ANYTHING!
