Through the fabulous coaching, my son has developed a passion for the sport and has received excellent instruction. The coaches are knowledgable, down-to-earth, and fun.

Michael took him under his wing at 6.5 years of age, recognizing his extreme passion and dedication in wanting to learn how to fence. My son adores Michael, and looks forward to going to fencing 4 days per week. In fact, he wishes that the club were open every day for fencing! Michael's dedication and coaching are evident as my son qualified for the Y10 Men's Sabre Summer Nationals this year, winning his first Direct Elimination at his first national tournament. Additionally, he has won 3 medals in the last 10 months of competing. Michael is a no nonsense coach, which is perfect if you want your child to learn how to fence well, and how to fence properly. As a former Olympian he looks to the future, instead of creating bad habits to help your child win now. Longevity in the sport is important to him, especially with his youth program where youth burnout and repetitive stress injuries can occur. No matter if your child wants to recreationally fence or excel in the sport, Michael D'Asaro and Lancelot Dyke (Assistant Sabre Coach) will help your children develop better athleticism, proprioception, balance, and sportsmanship! Both coaches are very supportive, encouraging growth and expanding potential in each individual fencer. The club is large with numerous strips, and all of the fencers are kind and respectful. I never hesitate to leave my child there while running errands, as I know he will be in great hands. Both coaches (Michael and Lance) are very communicative with their respective kids' parents, and very helpful with navigating the way for welcoming newcomers!

The director is so helpful and the coaches at the intermediate/advanced league are great. For the people complaining about the coaching of the beginner grass league - it is parent volunteers who are coaching, just like AYSO and city rec leagues for almost any other sport! The grass league is perfect for new players, and the intermediate/advanced league is excellent for more experienced/skilled players!

As another reviewer said, they are constantly asking for parents to volunteer to coach even with "no experience." They also do not allow you to pick your team or be placed with a friend, which I find makes little sense at the lower levels when the kids have very little experience playing and just want to do the activity with friends. I had signed up to assistant coach my daughter's team, partially on the promise that we could have one friend on the team. However, they turned around and said that offer was only available if I agreed to become head coach. Now our team has neither a head coach nor an assistant coach because their way of asking me to take on more just felt so underhanded and counter-intuitive to how you should treat volunteers.

Encountered sexism and derogatory speech towards women- league did nothing…read more Unfortunately this will be my first and last season playing coed flag football with BCS. I had such a negative experience during one of my games that left a major distaste for this league. What happened: during a game an opponent began hurling insults at my team. Whatever, i've been an athlete my whole life I get that sports get heated. However, he started aiming his attacks at the women on the team including myself. He would mock my girl teammates in whatever we did, called us "p****", said us "what are you my mommy?" when we asked him to stop. He also got up in my male teammates faces cursing them out "f*** you p****". I can ignore one sad loser, but I brought this up to the ref, who witnessed the entire thing, and he just shrugged. No apology, did not ask the opposing player to stop, so the player just kept going with the derogatory remarks and blatant sexism. So, the next day I email the league making them aware of what happened and how the ref did absolutely nothing to control the opposing player. It's been over a week, no response. I'm disgusted that a league who prides themselves on being open for all allows for such sexism and speech directed to women, and players in general. As a female athlete and a coach to girls, I find un sportsmanship intolerable. According to the leagues website: Excessive aggressiveness, unsportsmanlike conduct towards the referee(s) or members of the opposing team, and other conduct detrimental to the League, will result in ejection of the game, suspension from the league or a lifetime ban. I guess that's just for show because no one has said anything about the excessive unsportsmanlike conduct and sexism that was aimed at my team, especially my fellow girls.

I spoke with Brooke prior to signing up and she helped reassure me that she would try and match me up with a team fitting my experience. I ended up on an AWESOME team! Did we win every game? No, but we had fun and learned new things every game. Did we compete? Every game was pretty close, usually a touchdown difference. Was it fun? Absolutely! Everyone was awesome and encouraging. There was healthy banter back and forth. It was competitive! They have bar sponsors down on Main St that allows for a fun environment to meet new people and socialize a bit. As someone who is super shy it was nice to be surrounded by people I play with and played against, so you don't feel alone. Check which division you are signing up for and make sure it matches your style. Give your team time to get to know each other and play styles, chemistry doesn't just happen overnight. Can't wait to sign up for another league!
