Barton Creek... There is something about south Austin that is so much different than North... Im sot sure I could quite put my finger on it, but..oh well. It's a decent mall. Its typical. Nothing fancy, no fancy goo goo stuff like the food court in the Lakeline Mall, yet a step above the Highland Mall for sure! We visit here when Im waiting on hubs to get off work. I think the things we get a kick out of most of all is seeing what new "thing" they have by Sears.. Sometimes it the Bungee Bounce, once it was the rock wall, another time it was some sort of swing, Im not sure what it was, to be honest.. it was a few years ago.. anyhow.. Nothing fancy. Nothing horrible. Its a mall. Fairly busy almost always. Im not in love with the food court, its annoying the way it is laid out. I'll visit when I need to! Wont go out of my for this one! read more

I really like this mall. I agree with a previous poster that you guys are lucky to have a mall like this and very spoiled if you think this mall sucks. The mall in my hometown was a one story dinky place compared to this. I've never experienced any problems with the vendors at the kiosks downstairs but I've only been here a handful of times. If they say something, I just ignore them and keep walking- *never* had them shove stuff in my face or keep talking to me. Most of the time they're not even paying attention to me. The store selection is spectacular! There's so much here! I also about died of happiness when I saw a little Dippin Dots stand. You can't get this addictive crap where I'm from unless you're at six flags. Mmmmmmm I like the look of the mall (no overbearing stark white-ness) and all the different stairways to get to the first or second floor. It reminds me a lot of the Woodfield mall up in Schaumburg in Chicago, IL. I've never eaten at the food court but I imagine it's just like ANY OTHER food court in ANY OTHER mall, which sucks. I came here on Black Friday (which I imagine should be just about the worst day of the year to go to the mall) and got lots of great deals and had no issues with it being overcrowded or any issues with the employees at the stores or people shopping at the mall. It was a great shopping experience! I don't really shop at malls much because I'm frugal but I do like to come here every so often. And I will take friends and family here when they come to vist me. It's like the cool grandma of the family...this grandma has aged well. Extremely well maintained after all these years... no old-building smells, clean tiles, well-rounded stores. AND it's indoors with A/C. They host a farmer's market on the weekends in the parking lot. They have the only Forever 21 down south & the only Frullati & the only legit Nordstrom's in the city. This is the mall in Austin I'll go to when I tell people, "I'm going to the mall." I have been a consumer at Barton Creek Mall for as far back as I can remember. They've always had a somewhat decent selection compared to some of the other malls in the area. It seemed like the clientele changed when Nordstrom became an anchor store. That really brought the upscaleness, well, up. Some of my highlights include: For Clothing - Torrid, Old Navy For Shoes - Shoes Fitters, sometimes Nordstrom For Lunch/Dinner - California Pizza Kitchen For Everything Under the Sun - Sears For Yums - The Barton Creek Farmers' Market on Saturday Mornings in the Parking Lot For Fancy, Overpriced Homewares: Williams & Sonoma, Pottery Barn The only thing that keeps me away is Saturday nights...when the creatures known only as teenagers crawl from the wood work. Those, and also the gnats known as kiosk-dudes and dudettes. They will swarm you, asking for a minute of your time to try to sell you something you don't need. I either pretend to be on my phone or pretend to be deaf at that time. It can be not much fun when you got your hands full with bags. read more

I have been to this mall a few times now within a week. I went recently during the Christmas Season and it was PACKED.. so packed with a lot of people. I visited Zumiez, Armour Shield (I think that is right), food court, Osis (Korean place) and other stores. The layout of the mall is like any other mall, but the selection of the stores is great. There is a Dillards, Jcpennys, Macys and I believe a Nordstroms. (as major department stores). The food court is okay and for someone like me (Gluten Free) there isn't a lot to choose from. A sub place, pizza, Japanese/Thai food, Chick Fil A and more is there. The customer service has been good when I needed it and I love that they even have a farmer's market in their parking lot on Saturdays. During this past season they had a Santa picture area and the lines were always long. The Santa looked pretty spot on too I have been going to this mall off and on for about 10 years and I have noticed that before it seemed to be the "rich mall" and it was mostly people with money that shopped here. Within the last six or seven years it has become a mall that everyone shops at and they made the shops more accessible to all financial classes. I would recommend shopping at this mall if your down south, as it has almost everything. read more

Is this what malls have come to? I don't understand. Just weeks ago I was at North Star Mall in San Antonio. And it was sublime. There were beautiful holiday decorations everywhere, the music was streaming - it was like I was 12 again. Just before that I was in the Dallas Galleria - magic in true form. Both stores had beautiful displays, eye-catching mannequins, and sharp-looking sales associates...it was actually pleasant to be there. So why is it when I feel like browsing malls for Christmas decor, I come up empty? I kept hearing that Barton Creek Mall was the fancy-pants mall of Austin, and I vaguely remember going there with my mother back in high school or college to shop for clothes that we couldn't get in my hometown. What the hell happened? The place was littered with cheap kiosks, scattered with rip-off paraphernalia stores, stuffed to the gills with insanity and obscene smells. One additional star for having Nordstrom's, which was still magical and the sales were divine. But they should abandon ship, this place is the pits. I'm not sure if I would take the drive here again, sales or not, no matter how scenic. read more

I don't ask much from malls, other than that they're clean, safe & contain stores that people usually shop online for. Barton Creek Square Mall has all three of my requirements. Shops that I would find at high end malls in Dallas were also contained in this not-so-fancy mall. I liked that. I didn't feel like a security guard would escort me out of the store just because I squealed "What?! $300 for this? I found this at a garage sale for $1 awhile back!" (which happened to me at the Galleria mall in Dallas). It could've very well been that I was escorted because I used a high-pitchy voice and startled a few people in the store... but whatever. Point is, it's like a regular people mall without all the hoity-toity snots walking around and glaring at you because you're in their way. People actually say "Excuse me" and smile as they try to walk past you. It could also very well be that this is Austin and not Dallas :) I like Barton Creek Square Mall. It's a great mall that is surviving despite the opening of the Domain. The parking is fine and the stores are great. I get very annoyed by the parking lights at the N Cap of TX Highway though. It's a disappointingly long wait to leave the mall and get onto the highway. read more

The least awful mall in Austin, but it's still a mall. I'd prefer fewer upscale stores and more one-of-a-kind boutiques or specialty stores but what mall has that? I do feel like I might be paying a little more here than at Highland for the sake of atmosphere/location, and that's never a plus. All malls suck.. and in Austin they suck even worse. I'll give this an extra star for being the best sucky mall in Austin... and I attribute that solely to Nordstroms and Rudy's BBQ. This mall is a FAR cry from the Barton Creek where I used to work and before that, go on family outings. Oh my how this mall has grown up. I live in Round Rock now but I would not mind making the trip to this mall once in a while. It is still crawling with teenagers but the place is so upscale now that adults can also be seen shopping here. I am loving the decor in the mall and all the sitting areas scattered around the mall. I also love the variety of stores they have been able to attract. (Back in my day, it was Monkey Wards, Sears, JCPenney, and Foley's. Yikes!) For me, the food court leaves something to be desired between the selection of foods and the seating area. On the bright side, there is still a Chick-Fil-A and that is always a sunny spot in my day now. I can't wait to find an excuse to visit Barton Creek again! read more

I hate shopping at malls. However I don't mind shopping at this mall in the evenings. I like the stores. I can get just about anything I need here. They have a play area for kids and comfy seating for spouses. Lol. read more

Lots of stores with some nice high end ones like a Clark's store and Johnston and Murphy. I'm kind of sad that the J. Crew here only sells women's clothing. The Forever 21 here has a small men's section and there is a pretty decent Gap here. There's also a cotton on. This place is pretty huge. read more

I hate the layout of this mall, nothing has a rhyme or reason to it. Other than that it is your pretty standard mall which is a bit disappointing in my opinion. For a city that prides itself as unique this is the best we can do for a mall. This place really is closer to the Waco mall than a Dallas or Houston mall. The mall sucks. I'm not just singling out poor little sacrificial lamb Barton Creek Mall, I'm talking about malls in general. The whole culture of it is based upon artificial needs. Everybody says, "I NEED to go to the mall because I NEED (insert material item here)." Like you're going to die without whatever it is you're going to pick up at Dillard's or Foot Locker or Pottery Barn. NEED refers to things such as water, shelter and food (and no, the food court doesn't count). I went to Barton Creek today. I don't navigate malls well. Finally, one of the info desk girls turned me on to a map. I was in charge then. I'm not one of those guys that needs to ask for directions. Those jokes don't apply to me. I can read a map better than I can read my credit card statement, but that's another story. Basically, I got pushed around by those with more mall savvy. I overpaid for the items I purchased. I was hyper for the next two hours because of all of the flashing lights. To top it off, it took me 15 minutes to find my car afterward. I kid you not people. This mall is pretty awesome, it has all the major stores and brands that I'm looking for (namely Sephora, Gap, Apple, JCPenney, Dillards, Old Navy, Body Shop, Banana Republic...others, but they escape me). The remodel that happened a few years ago left has been kept up very well and the space is very open and clean and modern. I know most malls are being thrown to the wayside and open-air malls are becoming the new hip thing, but I feel in Texas with unending 100+ degree days, an indoor mall is still very much needed. One annoying thing about this place are the kiosk vendors who will CHASE you down sometimes. They're just absolutely insane. I did write the mall customer service directly and they were *very* responsive to the issue, asking for names, and said they would speak to them directly as annoying the customers is expressly against policy. Nice to know they are aware of the problem and are being responsive about it. My other wish is for some food vendors that offer a slightly healthier option than fried stuffs and pizza. Maybe even a ThunderCloud (or Subway if we must). Just a thought. Otherwise, this is my go-to for shopping. I always find good things! read more

I remember this mall used to be one of the nicest malls in town. I had to get a gift for my wife so I drove across town to get a nice necklace. The cafeteria had some good restaurants but the men's bathrooms need more attention. read more

I really like the cleanliness of the mall. That's why I give it the rating it has. But...... I have some advice. I was just mad at how an employee from the mall just laughed at me and my boyfriend as the elevator stops mid way shaking us almost making me fall. My boyfriend hurt his knee and didn't say anything until after the fact. The employee proceeded and said, "it always shuts down at exactly 8:55." My boyfriend checked his watch and it was 8:52. We were heading up to leave. We didn't need the hint. My suggestion is please have the decency to wait after you're actually closed before accidentally hurting one of you're customers. read more

I would have given this mall 5 stars but I really, really, really dislike the aggressive men and women who try to hand me little samples to pull me into their store/kiosk. I cannot imagine why management allows this practice. I am normally a very polite person, but now I just wave them off or look the other way and do not acknowledge them. Located near Westlake Hills ... with a great view of the downtown skyline and the barton creek green belt - yes its sad that they built a mall so that it runs off into the aquifer - but i guess this did this back in the 80s when the mall and the car was king. You'll find all the national chain stores here such as the Apple Store, Pottery Barn, Coach, Armani Exchange, A&F, Nordstrom, Sharper Image, etc... this mall should be double its current size to meet austin's needs but with the domain and the shopping center of bee caves opening up - it is to be seen if this mall is can compete in the near future - but until spring 2007 its really the only game in town. read more

bleh. I'm going to be one of those "remember when Austin was great?" people here, sorry. This mall used to be terrible in the early nineties. It was dark, uninviting, and just not a lot of interest (although it did have some good restaurants). Then it underwent HUGE renovations, becoming the best mall in the city. High-end stores moved in, it was bright and clean... then it started going downhill again to the state it's in now. Not many high-end stores remain, just Nordstrom and a few others, the majority of stores are dirty, loud, and chaotic, the food court area and restrooms are a complete mess (with no good food options), screaming kids everywhere, constant accidents in the parking lots. Makes you miss the good old days. read more

This mall has been in steady decline for years. It's at a challenging place to get to first off. Secondly 90% of it's clientele are slight upper class superficial soccer moms and their constantly truant offspring. From a Geek's perspective there is the Apple store....which smells like new plastic and hardcore B.O. everytime you go in there. The place is always packed and there are too few snobby teenage associates at the "Genius Bar" to help usually. The movie theater is far from modern. It does not incorporate stadium seating so you have to be very careful where you sit. The food court is just designed to screw you if you choose to buy food from them. $7 pizza slices and $5 scoop of ice cream. I really does seem people (teens) still go there for what it used to be instead of what it is. read more

Typical mall nothing special about it I'm from Houston so it kind of reminded me like another yelper said of the Woodlands Mall and if you've been to the Woodlands Mall you'll know that this place is definitely very similar. They have all of the stores that you are used to such as Macy's JCPenney, etc and they even had a few younger hipster clothing stores. The food court was pretty disappointing they did not have a lot of options may be six or seven restaurants total for the entire mall and most of which was Chinese food which we ended up getting because as in any mall, they offered samples of the meat and it was good enough to eat "hey that rhymed" lol read more

One of the great things about Austin is that there isn't as much of a mall culture as in other cities, but that also means that the malls are few and far between. With that said, Barton Creek is the nicest one in town (especially if we're still counting Highland as a mall). Just about every mall staple is here, including the movie theater. Very navigable if it's not too crowded. read more

The bad news is that I live so far from Barton Creek Mall, so it makes virtually no sense for me to drive there just to shop at a number of stores that are located in a number of other malls closer to my house. The stores that aren't located near where I live, well, they are a little out of my budget. The good news is I'm about to start a job not far from Barton Creek Mall, so I'll have an excuse to swing by from time to time. I'm not really a mall guy, but if I do end up in one, I'd prefer it be clean with employees that are generally courteous and helpful. I also like the notion of having some stores that are unique and interesting even if I'm just in the window-shopping mode, which can be found at Barton Creek. I think it's fair to say that Barton Creek is the "nicest" mall in the Austin area and offers the most varied shops, relative to what malls normally offer. I'm not sure that there is a true reason to go to Barton Creek if you just need somewhere to drop in and grab a gift, but there are just enough unique elements and stores that if you're in the area needing to kill some time or go shopping, it's a fine place to do so. read more

People say malls are relics of the past. I can attest that is not entirely true. We still go to Barton to wine and dine... unwind... and shop. Sometimes we buy, sometimes we don't. There are things in life that I want to order online, and there are other things that I want to touch, see, feel, and go to the mall for. Maybe expanding the charging stations to include others aside from EVGO is a good step toward improving the overall experience. read more
