Just picked up our takeout order and seriously!? We spent $30 on one full sized and one half sized salad and tipped $9 combined in cash and on the card on top of that. Big mistake. Im tired of eating out in this town and being disappointed because someone was too lazy to put my food together correctly. I got about 3 pieces of steak the size of a nickel as seen in my photo, and my boyfriends piece of bread was literally a crouton that was smaller than the butter they gave us. Ick. Maybe it's because it was delivery....I don't know. The salad was in 6 inch to 8 inch chunks. I had no knife so I that was miserable. I guess next time I'll order a knife. 7.50 extra for 6 pieces of 1/4 inch chicken. I would prefer romaine but their lettuce is tasty. Caesar dressing tasted of nothing but garlic. Absolutely love this place! It's healthy, real foods. They offer an amazing salad bar and broths. They offer a selection of vegan or animal protein. Sometimes they also make delicious soups. They also offer gluten free muffins every once in a while or dehydrated mangoes. The owners are always working behind the counter and you can tell that they care about the quality of their food. They also appear to be very kind people. My absolute favorite thing to get here in the mornings after a killer workout at Main Street Pilates or Kinetic Body is a smoothie! And I wish I knew the name but quite frankly I come here so often that I just ask them to make me 'that delicious smoothie with the Moon Juice protein in it!' And for those of you wondering what Moon Juice is well it's an amazing line of vitamins and supplements. Moon Juice is all the rage in Los Angeles and I believe that Basal might be the only place in town that carries it... Now only if they can carry more products by Moon Juice! read more

Very accommodating. I got the steak salad and a cup of broth, and had them substitute a few things until it was just right. After traveling around several states and eating junk, this was true sustenance. I felt refreshed and recovered and loved every bite. It was definitely on the pricey size though. $20 or $22 for just this little salad and broth. This time, it was worth it, but it wouldn't be my usual go-to, at least not for the $6-per-cup broth. I can make that myself, and a gigantic pot of it too. :) But I would come back for the salad when I'm in town next. I would recommend quickly warming up the steak and potato bits before throwing them in the salad though. Would be even better. read more

I only really review places when I love them... and wow did I love Basal! While their prices are a bit on the higher end, you get huge portions and really good quality food. I've been here twice now, the first time I just got a latte, and most recently I stopped in for lunch and ordered a custom build salad. They've only been open for a few weeks, but they seemed to have a steady flow of customers in and out. It's definitely a nice new healthy option for lunch in downtown Missoula, and I'm happy to have them here. I love the decor and atmosphere inside, it's modern but also clean and cute. The owners also seem very friendly. Good and fast service, relaxing atmosphere, and yummy good for you food... what more could you want? Give Basal a try, you won't be disappointed. And if you're torn on what salad dressing to pick, I recommend the Pesto Basil Vinaigrette. It was delicious! read more

I ordered the roasted beat salary with chicken and my husband had the brussels sprout caesar salad with chickn. Both were so good! I tried the almond butter and jelly smoothie (almond butter, stawberries, oats, and bananas and it was very good. My favorite though was my husband's green smoothie which consisted of pineapple, banana, greens, mint, and ginger, so refreshing. We'll be back next time we are in Missoula. read more

This restaurant is incredible! The quality of the food was wonderful, and the salad was mixed to perfection! Props to the chefs who made the falafel for their falafel salad. It was very tasty! What really impressed me was our server/cashier Taylor. My girlfriend has an egg allergy, and he offered to double check every ingredient to ensure her salad was safe for her to eat. I tried this place out for the first time today and I am kicking myself for not popping in sooner. It is right across the street from my yoga studio and I am always starved afterwards but usually it's midday and I don't want to fill up too much. I treated myself to a smoothie and some hearty broth infused with veggies and ginger. I got the broth on a whim and didn't expect it to be as satiating as it turned out to be-- and delicious. All of their menu items are things I dream of making for myself everyday but I am too busy to make it happen. I enjoy eating clean and while it can be a little on the pricier side, I think the flavor and feeling afterwards is worth it. The staff are pleasant, the service is fast, and the atmosphere was quite calm and inviting until they got a bit of a lunch rush crowd coming in. I will definitely be returning and can't wait to try everything else on the menu. read more
