My review will hopefully bring a different perspective than what has been left so far…read more We attended a wedding reception here recently. I had no idea this place existed until we had an invitation. The sad part? We live in Stoughton! I'm glad I know about it now, even though our wedding is in the past, but I can throw it out to people I know that are planning their own. This venue is a one-stop-shop. You can have your ceremony in one barn, and transfer to the larger barn for the reception. It is quite spacious inside, as the wedding we attended was quite large, closer to 300. And the head table reminded me of a renaissance style set-up where it fit 24 people and was two tables wide all the way down. So that took up quite a bit of space too. Their bartenders were very friendly, and I thought their bar set up was efficient. 3 bartenders may have been all they could throw back there without tripping on each other, but that is something they maybe could've had one more of. The dinner was catered in, but it seemed like the photo booth and the ice cream "truck" they had at the wedding was something they booked from the Fields Reserve directly, which is quite efficient. I will say, that from my event planning background, the tear down time was quite lengthy. It was almost 40 minutes between the start of tearing down tables for the dance floor, until the first dance. So from a guest point-of-view, that would be something to work on. And just a housekeeping thing, especially when guests will be leaving in darkness, more lighting on the initial decent of the driveway as you leave. It is also a little overgrown, and because it's a tighter driveway, if another car is coming, it could be a close call. So that's something to think about too. Great newer venue option for our area though!

Bad weather access is quite difficult. There's no protection from rain and a steep hill leading to…read morethe venue. Most irritating is the failure to plan for sound and lighting. Four unshielded bulbs at front of room produce hot spots that make photography unacceptably challenging and even viewing the ceremony difficult. Hard surfaces to some extent obviate a PA system. But for those in the rear of the hall, amplification would be desirable.

We are so glad that we selected the Stoughton Country Club for our wedding ceremony and reception!…read moreEverything was so wonderful, from start to finish. The people: Kelly, the event coordinator, was not only extremely helpful, organized, and on top of every last detail, but is also just a wonderful woman who I am glad could be a part of our day! She clearly loves her job and I never once felt like "just another bride," even though we were already her third wedding that month. It felt like our wedding was as special to her as it is to us. Tim, bar manager, is there during weddings and closes out the night. He also went above and beyond to take care of us and our guests. The space: Talk about beautiful! The ceremony space looked out over Lake Kegonsa, with a lovely dock and trees which frame, but don't obscure, the view. Lots of great opportunities for photos! We chose not to go onto the green since there were nice backdrops around the building, but couples who would like to should know that only the couple and photographer are allowed onto the green for photos. The building is very nice, and new flooring had been put in right before our wedding. We had 90 people at our wedding, and we fit very comfortably with some room to spare. The décor is neutral enough not to compete with your decorations, but otherwise has a very supper club kind of vibe. The food: HOLY SMOKES! I don't think a single plate went unfinished. We were blown away at our tasting, but I was curious if they would be able to duplicate that high of quality when producing dinner for nearly 100 people at once. They did! Everything came out efficiently, hot, and delicious. We served the tortellini alfredo, the chicken dutchesse, and prime rib. I also appreciate that they made sure our head table was served first so that we got plenty of time to finish our meal before we got pulled away by all the glass clinking and congratulations! The value: Given how wonderful everything was, we got the value of a lifetime! There were also other "perks" thrown in, such as a social membership for the two of us and a free round of golf that morning.

Highly recommend! We discovered Heartland Farm Sanctuary in early 2018 and have been fans and supporters ever since…read more Heartland was the first farm sanctuary in Wisconsin and still is the largest in the state. But what makes Heartland stand out is that in addition to love and effort they devote to the homeless farm animals they rescue, the sanctuary also works with youth who are at risk or have special needs. Heartland Farm Sanctuary creates an environment where youth and the rescued animals can "come together to heal, grow, and have fun" (quoted from Heartland). The environment at Heartland Farm Sanctuary is truly different from what you would experience at a traditional working farm (or for that matter, just reading or hearing about animals). I think of my visits to Heartland as something of a Zen experience -- that setting is part of why children can so effectively learn how to interact with animals in a humane fashion. Heartland offers public tours on most weekends from Spring through Fall. There also are week-long summer camps for kids. The animal residents change over time as new rescues arrive (and unfortunately as some older animals pass away). Current residents include donkeys, a miniature horse (Cookie), emus, cows (Beau and Daisy), goats, lamas, turkeys, chickens, geese, ducks, pigs, sheep, and more. The sanctuary also includes two cats (Poppy and Otto) that keep an eye on everything. If you have kids, Heartland Farm Sanctuary is a fantastic place for them to interact with animals and in turn learn in ways that are not possible in the classroom or from watching TV.

Yesterday was our second visit to the Sanctuary (June 2018 and June 2019) and we think we have…read moreestablished a new tradition. A yearly visit (at least!) is good for our spirits since this is a lovely place for animals and people to be surrounded by kindness and compassion - two things that never go out of style! The tours begin promptly and people gather at a small picnic style area with a roof (a new development since our previous visit). Then, we are taken to the barn to see the emus, hens, turkeys, Cookie the mini horse, and the donkeys. We then get to see the pigs and we were lucky enough this time to see Winnie enjoying some watermelon. The last part of the tour is in the pasture area with the goats - Esther is happy to act as tour guide as well! But not only are these tours amazing, this entity has all kinds of activities and projects with children (summer camp, etc). They really put monetary donations to good use. When going for the tour, you may want to bring a water bottle. Their port-a-potties are pretty clean with plenty of toilet paper and hand sanitizer. We still brought some sanitizer just in case, but they offer you some at the end after petting the animals that come to you to hang out in the pasture. In less than 15 minutes driving back, we were already by the West Towne Mall area.
