Went here for fish fry last week. Now, it's a bowling alley in Wisconsin. Even at their worst, Wisco bowling alleys' fish frys are usually pretty good, and Prairie Lanes is no exception. The service was quick. The fish fry was standard Wisco fare--no complaints. My daughter got one of their sandwiches, and while it won't knock your socks off, there was nothing wrong with it at all. My only real knock was the beer. I ordered my standard, go-to beer--Blue Moon (stop judging me, I like it)--and it was not great. The tap ratio was off, and it came out more like a beer-tasting water than an actual beer. It wasn't bad enough to make me complain, but it wasn't great. It might have just been an off-night for that tap. I'm not sure. I'll definitely go back to Prairie Lanes, though. Nothing wrong with it. It is a good, solid, standard Wisconsin bowling alley bar/restaurant. read more

Prairie Lanes has a nice variety of activities: bowling, laser tag, arcade and a separate bar area with music. The place was clean and the food was good. There were a couple downsides to this establishment: the Bourbon Pork Belly was overpriced for the amount of food served, there is no ATM in the building, not enough staff for the non-bar area. We hosted a birthday party for our 6 year old at Prarie Lanes today and had a wonderful experience all around! Everything ran so smoothly and service from all staff was excellent! They were prepared when we arrived, food/drink was delivered and delicious, and it was easy to coordinate doing bowling, laser tag and the arcade - they were on top of it all and made it so easy. This review is for the volleyball area and outside bar. The bartender who worked out there on Mondays all summer was absolutely spectacular! This is my favorite place in Madison to play sand volleyball due to the setup, the service, the food, and the music. You can even bring your dog! Definitely get the tots with the dry rub on them, you won't be disappointed. The Philly is pretty darn good too. Not sure about the other food though as I always order the same thing. read more

The bowling was ok. The laser tag was 10 minutes long and some times the gun did not work. With the laser tag we had a one free game and the website said it was eight dollars but they charged 16 for 1 person. Half the games were broken and were not fun. The place was very dirty. The new owners have ruined the food menu - Parmesan crusted quesadillas what Mexican restaurant has anyone ever been to where they used Parmesan cheese it comes with pico de gallo that is always suspect in the freshness and is completely tasteless. FYI pico is tomato, onion, jalapeño, cilantro and lime - not rocket science. They no longer serve grill chicken sandwiches instead they have chosen to use frozen chicken slices - yuck. The burgers are now double stacked really? Not everyone wants to overeat. They might have good wings but not everyone wants dirty sticky fingers. They have completely taken away any of the good menu items. Hopefully they can sustain the business with the bowling and volleyball drinkers cause if they had to survive on the food business part the place would close down. Whenever I go there for food they always have something that they are out of - I would never suggest this place to anyone unless they wanted a place to sit outside and have a cocktail. I miss the old owner. I also wanted to mention the employees lack any enthusiasm whatsoever. I would hate to see this place close but I think it is inevitable. I live nearby and have been to PL at least 500 times in the last 20 years so I am experienced enough to give an accurate review. So if you see a good review after 2023 do not believe it - it is definitely a planted review. Food and service is awful. We live near here so this place is just convenient. Usually we grab food and drinks and go, it's not usually a place to hang out. Tonight, the energy was completely different. It felt like we walked into a different place. We were greeted by the manager, small talk, introductions, AMAZING young lady. We sat at the bar where our bartender was in training and a bit anxious. The manager came by, provided words of encouragement to the bartender, checked with everyone in the bar to see that we were ok and she was actually the one who served our food. There was only a few people on staff but they were great! It literally "felt" different. We will be back except next time it won't simply be because it's convenient. Keep up the good work read more

I give a zero. One of the most disgusting acts i have seen. Wont eat here ever. Bartender's and cooks vaping in the kitchen while there cooking. No manager in sight to do anything. Who thinks this is ok to smoke or vape in a kitchen. Isn't this a health code. Service was horrible. read more

My buddies and I have been bowling at Prairie Lanes for many years. These past few years we have been extremely lucky to have arguably one of the best lane waitresses around. Autumn has been a fantastic waitress to us over the years and makes our Thursday nights one to look forward to. You can walk in the door and she will be walking right over to greet you with your drink in hand. Autumn is constantly interacting with every single bowler she waits on and always has a smile on her face. Even after her shift is complete, she joins many of us bowlers in the bar and makes her rounds to the bowling groups after. We just love her and can't wait to see her next fall for another great year of bowling and good times. read more

My wife and I visited this bowling alley this past Monday 8/28. We both ordered a drink. My wife's drink was not made correctly. She politely asked the bartender to remake the drink. The bartender was beyond rude about it. She told us she knows what she is doing and if we don't like how she made the drink then we can go to a different bar. My wife and I were appalled at the service this bartender provided. The manager was less than concerned about how his bartender treated us as well. Needless to say we paid for our drinks and went to a different bar instead. That was only after we were given a dirty look by the bartender for not leaving a tip for her poor service. The bartender's name started with a C, she is a younger, shorter girl and has brown hair. Be prepared for terrible service from her! read more

I went here with a group of friends for Prarie Lanes Friday night open bowling special that was supposed to start at 9. I'm a little confused about their concept of open bowling. It was 9:45 and we were told we would have to wait while just about all the lanes were empty. We got a lane a little after 10. On a good note, their bar was pretty good. A pitcher of bud light costs $7. I mainly came for relaxing with friends so I didn't care too much about delayed bowling. read more

This is an older bowling alley, it has the usual bar, some video games, a small pro shop, and a grill. The pizza was decent, not great but one didn't go to bowling alley for the pizza. There are about 30 lanes (sorry, I didn't count them), they are all automated and have an intercom to the counter. The staff was friendly, the beverages were cold, and there is plenty of parking. Only complain, the balls need to be replaced. They have seen better days. All in all, a nice place to spend a couple of JFK's with friends on a Saturday. read more

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!!!! The bowling is Awesome at Prairie Lanes and the bowling staff exceptional at service. Unfortunately, the restaurant is poorly managed and believes that the bowling customer take priority over those in the restaurant. I have given Prairie Lanes 3 opportunities to prove that they can improve on the service aspect of the business, and this past Friday night, they failed again. You would think for an all you can eat fish fry, the restaurant would prepare better. We waited 45 minutes from the time we ordered to receive our food.... and this is not the longest we have waited. One hour is the record and that record will never have a chance to be broken...... I did speak to the manager on duty and he gave us a 30% discount for our trouble, but had to go out of his way to BLAME the 17 year old hostess... for not telling us it would be at least a 30 minute wait..... Blame it on the kids.... how does that make it better. The sad part, this that the food, when not cold, is very good, the portion are exceptional, and the price is fair. LOVE prairie lanes. I've been going here ever since I was little to bowl, whether in tournaments, recreationally or with school. The staff is always friendly and attentive. The food is always great and priced right. The atmosphere is friendly and clean. I love attending the 'glow bowling' open bowl on weekend nights. Get there early so that you can grab a lane quick! They also have a sports bar/eating area but I've never had the chance to stop in and eat there. I think Prairie Lanes is a staple in the Sun Prairie community and they have an awesome kids bowl free program in the summer! This will always be my go-to bowling alley! read more

I am serious about my bowling, and this place does it RIGHT! The food is good, for bowling alley food, the brews are nice and cold, plus there were a couple of foxes in there. I'm not like Hank, where I am just going to throw myself at ladies, but I don't mind having some nice scenery. I was talking to a friend of mine, he told me that Hank will never go in there. Something about trying to stay away from athletic competition. I'm glad. I'll go there all the time, as long as Hank is not there. Plenty of lanes, large open bar, outdoor volleyball court there's a good amount of stuff to keep you busy. Bar has ski ball and a hoops games. Tv's for the game, plenty of parking, food is good as well. All in all a good place. read more

I was in my Hometown for the Christmas celebration with my family. My Dad wanted to treat us to an All-You-Can-Eat Friday Night Fish Fry and gave us a couple of places that serve one. It wasn't hard for me to choose. Prairie Lanes was a place that I spent many hours at as a kid. The Bar & Grill part is all new & refurbished, so I wanted to see the new changes. Plus, I remember there not being a menu because of the limited options they had "back in the day". Now, they have a full menu to offer. We made plans to all meet up at 5:30. Prairie Lanes has ample parking all around and we found plenty of spots available. They have entrances on the North, South, and smack dab in the middle of the place. The best entrance for the Bar & Grill is the middle. You will find the Bar area immediately. There is a host stand, and they will find you a table or booth. We needed a table for 7 and there was no issue with that. We got a big round one right away. Getting settled in, our server stopped by asking about drinks. I don't think anyone of us knew what we wanted. She offered waters to us all, which we accepted. When she returned with the waters, only two of us had figured out what we wanted to drink. I asked about tap beers and our server grabbed a table tent off a booth to show me. She said she would be back with the two sodas that were asked for. Most choices seemed domestic on the tap list. Our server brought the sodas and started taking our food order at this time. In all, 3 AYCE Fish Fry's, one senior Fish Fry, and two kids meals. I also ordered a High Life on tap. The Fish Fry comes standard with Beer Battered Cod, Salad Bar, Soup Bar, & choice of potato. The choice of potato is French Fries, Baby Reds, or Potato Pancakes. I went with the Pancakes. Alyssa did Baby Reds. I checked out this Soup Bar first which is right next to the Salad Bar. They offered up 3 kinds of Soup. Clam Chowder, Chicken Noodle, & Wisconsin Cheese. They also offer bowls & cups for dishing your Soup in. I grabbed a bowl of Clam Chowder and headed back to the table. Alyssa made her way up when I got back. I put a little pepper in my Chowder & dumped in the little packet of oyster crackers offered. Creamy, Hot & Fresh. But as Alyssa put it. It tastes like it came out a bag. It wasn't bad. Just....basic. I went up a second time to try the Chicken Noodle. I did a cup of it. The noodles are big and thick. The broth is flavorful. Hardly any chicken in it. Next up, Salad Bar. This is surprisingly solid. They have all the bases covered on this one. Everything was fresh & full. They had an attendant right there monitoring it. Coleslaw is available here, too. It's something that I didn't try. I was a couple of bites into my salad when our dinners arrived. The Fish looked good. Two pieces of Golden Fried Beer Battered Cod. The Potato Pancakes not so much so. When I think of Potato Pancakes, these I didn't have in mind. They were little McDonald's like Hash Browns. Or Larger Burger King like Hash Rounds. Take your pick. Tasted like 'em, too. Straight out the freezer. Slid out the bag. Into the fryer. They tried to make them authentic by providing Applesauce & Syrup to dip them into. The Baby Reds Alyssa got were nice. They looked pan fried. The Cod Loins were cooked too much. Cutting in, they clumped instead of flaked away. Biting down, you knew it. Firm. Not tender. It's one of those thing where it's not bad, just not good. Seeming that they only offer one kind of Cod, Deep Fried. They should be able to handle cooking it the right time. Ah well. There's always the reorder, right? Those were overcooked as well. Not burned, just over done. By 2 or 3 minutes. When I mentioned this later, everyone who ordered Fish thought the same thing. I had to ask for lemon, as for that didn't come with the supper, but tartar sauce did. It tasted fine, just seemed like it came out the bottle. Our server was so very patient with us. When we were indecisive of drinks, she didn't blink an eye. She was always checking up on us. Awesome job by her. The AYCE Friday Night Fish Fry costs $11.99 here. Could be worth it, if the Cod is cooked proper. For what we got, it's a little steep. The menu here is nice. They have a burger that me, living in the Twin Cities, was surprised to see. The Juicy Lucy. While it might not be the way I'd spell it (Jucy Lucy), it sure was a welcome to see. I tried to get someone at the table to order one, to no avail. Probably a good thing. Awesome food and a fun bar. Usually bowling alley food is just okay, but I've never had anything I didn't like at Prairie Lanes. Yum! I had my birthday party in the bar area with over 40 people and they did a great job handling all of us, plus the other customers. Took all the grandkids for bowling, snacks, and soft drinks. Everyone had a great time. The staff were welcoming and helpful when we had problems with the pin setter. Seven kids had hours of active, old-fashioned fun for less than $50. It's great to still have places like this in our community. read more
