The past few years I swear half a dozen new Mediterranean places have popped up in the area...seems like forever it was just Aladdin's and Sinbad (double meh) I say bring on the competition...Basha definitely holds its own in this arena. Their hummus is so smooth and velvety..spread on a pita its heavenly. I came here for lunch and had the grain bowl with rice, chicken and other assorted toppings, but the white bean sauce had an earthy slow simmered exotic taste that just really made the dish so good. The service here was not quick, but we came on a sunday afternoon so there was just one guy behind the counter..maybe it's faster at peak times. Basha's one major drawback is their pita bread. Not fresh made in house, but store bought,,thin cold and just no where near as good as some of the other spots around town. But if you can overlook that,,maybe if youre in a low carb mood, everything else here is excellent read more

I have eaten at Basha about 6 times now. They have the best baba ganoush I have ever had. It comes drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with pomegranate seeds. If you go for dinner (after 5pm), they serve their homemade pita which is so good! Warm and fluffy! Before that time, unfortunately they serve the store bought pita. My other favorite dish to get is the portabella pitza-O M G! It is so flavorful! I have also had their lahm pitza which is good, but nothing compares to the portabella. I have also had their salad with roasted vegetables and falafel and the stuffed portabella appetizer- both good, but the appetizer only comes with one mushroom. A friend ordered aubergine during one visit and I tried it and that was also good. Everything is fresh and flavorful! I have tried both the white and red Lebanese wines, both are very good blends. Every time I go they are out of Almaza, a Lebanese beer, but the Gold Star, Israeli beer is good. I once bought an assortment of baklava which I did not care for. It had a different, almost oil taste, and it was not sweet like baklava I am used to. It was on the dryer side. The owners are very nice and friendly. Anytime I am in there, I can usually tell who are regulars or family friends because the owner is frequently conversing with them in the dining area. Very welcoming and lively atmosphere. read more

Fresh, delicious, fast service, and great prices. Basha, formally of Clinton Avenue, and long deceased, has been reborn as sort of a Lebonese chipotle. What a great concept. You choose your food, walk through a cafeteria style line, and then eat the most fresh and delicious food imaginable. The owner and his wife are on-the premises, overseeing the operation, and assuring that everything is running smoothly. The recipes are authentic, and the variety is staggering. Many trips to this restaurant will be necessary to sample the many dishes, and this is a terrific place for a lunch or fast and light dinner. I have known the owner for many years, and his enthusiasm is contagious. I know this restaurant will be successful, and I look forward to many pleasant and satisfying meals under the watchful eye of the proprietor. Not to be missed are the lentil soup, to which you can add some chicken, and very imaginative grain bowls and salad bowls, which combined many of the fresh ingredients. Ordered the prima pasta for a dinner takeout. The place was buzzing with customers and the staff had their hands full in the open kitchen. The owners themselves look after the preparation of the food and the service. The pasta was basil linguine which was cooked well, but lacked a bit of salt. The vegetables in the prima pasta were seasoned nicely and complemented each other. What I liked in the entree is that there was no cheese which is a hard find these days. Pastas are usually spoiled by excessive cheese which is not really the case with authentic Italian cuisine. Overall, the pasta felt dry when eating it and the portion size was okay. Would taste some of their Mediterranean food the next time and let you know how things go. read more

The first time I went to Basha was on a date I love the setup of the restaurant you could actually see how your food is getting made. And it takes enough time where you know that they're using the freshest ingredients but not too long. the portions are really good size as well. The second time they went I did take out you can order anything off their menu for takeout. And I love their salad which is awesome if you're looking for a hearty salad with a variety of vegetables here is your place. Definitely homegrown run as well everyone there is really nice and they generally want to make sure that you had a great experience and you want to come back for more. read more

I had the Shriimp and pasta. The results were completely the opposite of what normally happens which is the food tastes great but they don't give you enough shrimp (or whatever it may be). This place had the complete opposite of they gave you tons of large shrimp (7) but the way the ingredients mixed together was very bland. The only explanation is maybe it was diet or gluten free and is very healthy but the taste was very flat. What a nice night. The food, service and atmosphere were perfect. We sat outside, chairs are comfy, great music and can smell the food cooking. The owners are genuinely kind and welcoming. Basha! what can I say! Welcome Back! If any of you remember the fantastic restaurant of the same name that was located on South Clinton back in the 90's, well good news, they are back and better then ever! They are located in the plaza on the corner of Monroe Ave. and Clover, right next to Starbucks. They have a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating, with a nice open and inviting atmosphere. Basha's is not just a retread of their former self, It is an entirely new dining experience, It is a little hard to describe, when you enter you will see a large board detailing their different wraps, bowls and salads. I cannot tell you how happy I was to see my old favorite the shishbasha! After you select your item the person behind the counter, possibly the owner, will hand make the item to your specifications, from a huge array of vegetables, sauces, hummus, baba, and proteins, so you get exactly what you want. If you are unsure of what to ask for the staff will be happy to give suggestions, or you can just say "what normally comes on it" and prepare yourself for a taste treat. My guest and I started out with a plate of half hummus and half baba, with pita and cucumbers on the side for dipping. The baba and hummus was delicious they both had a clean, delicate taste which spoke to the fact that they are homemade. For entrees we had a Gyro and a Beef Shawarma, wow, both were fantastic! The Gyro meat was tender and tasty and the veg fresh and crisp. The Shawarma was even better! they were both hand made and cooked to order, no leftovers from the kitchen here! We were also informed by our server that the herbs used come from the owners garden out front! Nice! The serving size is generous and after the hummus and extra pita, we both ended up taking home half of our entrees. To drink they have a selection of bottled and fountain soft drinks, no wine or beer, but that my come in time I highly recommend a visit to Basha's you will not regret it, and it's nice to eat some good, fresh, and healthy food for a change. read more

Stopped in here today for a late lunch on the go and I'm so glad I did... it was fantastic and I can't wait to return. I had the Beef Shawarma, and it was really delicious. First, it's a healthy portion for the price.. it's a good size but not so ridiculously overstuffed that things fall out while you're eating, and all the ingredients were fresh and high quality. In particular, I noted the beef was extremely tender and lean... perfectly grilled, too. The sauce is well balanced and the pickles lend a crisp, bright finish. The toasted pita was perfection. The owner and my server couldn't have been more warm and welcoming, and the space is beautiful inside and out. I think they've done a great job creating an environment that fits a variety of situations... quick take out, alfresco summer dining, or stylish sit-down mediterranean dinner w/friends. I'm looking forward to returning w/companions, for a larger sit-down meal. Some previous reviewers mentioned the ordering process issues when they opened, but it was completely smooth and seamless for me. I had an amazing handcrafted shawarma with all the fixings, and was on my way in under 5 minutes. I'm not surprised this place stays aware and keeps tweaking every aspect. The owner is incredibly attentive to his business... I see him every morning when I get my coffee next door- cleaning the windows, watering the plants, setting up tables, etc... he's always quick to do the heavy lifting himself. I'm not sure what middle eastern country drives the spicing and flavoring of their grape leaves and cabbage rolls but it isn't Lebanon, and Lebanon's is the premier cuisine of the Middle East. Being half Lebanese myself and having had the family's best cook in my maternal grandmother I know something about Lebanese food. First, the grape leaves had no meat in them, which makes them of the inferior, tasteless Greek model. They also use too much of one particular spice in them which doesn't complement it at all, and actually imparts a sharp and bitter character which shocks the mouth. They are also uncommonly thin. The cabbage rolls have a little ground beef in them but are quite bland. Both rolls were absolutely smothered in a tasteless oil which yielded a more gelatinous, mushy, wet texture than an authentic taste. The tabbouleh passes on a good mix of parsley, tomato and onion with the right mix of lemon juice and oil. That tasted good, although you have to work hard to ruin tabbouleh. Lamb shank tasted like lamb and wasn't heavily seasoned. Dessert box passes muster as a collection of pastry-stuff that accommodates American tastes. Also, no bread was offered with these meals, despite it being available, and that is a cardinal sin. Bread accompanies every meal and to not offer it or include it was surprising. I suspect all these five star reviews were done by people without middle eastern food experiences. There's nothing like Lebanese food and this was nothing like Lebanese food. read more

If you like flavorful meals, then I recommend this place for lunch. Plus, there is a special sweet spot in my belly for all things pita, hummus, and shawarma related. When I walked in, immediately, I could tell it had a clean and crisp view with gray walls and minimalist decor. You can even see the workers preparing the meat and the meal since there are large clear windows. The chef debriefed us on what would be on our sandwiches and asked us how we liked our food. On my visit, my beef shawarma had a strong wine aroma due to the cured olives. It was strong and packed a ton of flavor. My hubby secured himself a lamb gyro which was tasty with salt and hopping with garlic and spices. All in all, I had a great time here. Next time, I'll visit to try the quinoa bowls. Oh wow! WOW the best salad I have ever had in my life. I was concerned because the menu online didn't show all of the veggie options. I should note that we went here in Summer 2018 so they definitely might have improved on some of the points in this review. I love Mediterranean food and have been to close to every one in the Rochester area. Simply put, there are superior options at nearly all of them compared to here. I understand that the ownership had a location years ago and likely paved the way for many of the places that I prefer, but I feel as though they were so beloved then because people did not know any better. We ordered the platter which was close to $18. Every meat was dry, and you can get the same thing at 4 other restaurants in the area for half the price and infinitely superior flavor and quality. The service was fine, but the seating has you sitting literally on top of the people next to you, so you can hear every word of their conversation. There is no privacy whatsoever. I will not be going back to this restaurant. Again, you can get the same thing for half the price and worlds apart higher quality and nearly every other Mediterranean restaurant in the area. read more

I personally very much liked the food. It's good, it's healthy, and it's reasonably priced. There were accommodations for many types of diets. The only thing was that they had an inspector in at the time, which delayed and hampered service. Ordinarily, they have a person to explain the process, but that person couldn't be spared today because of the inspection; additionally, COVID has meant fewer staff. I still think it would be a good idea to have a sign that somewhat explains the process for the future situations where there is a shortage of staff. The staff is one of the reasons why I come back because they consistently try to make you happy, they explain your options even when they're busy, and they don't hesitate to make suggestions.
