I was in the neighborhood killing time between meetings and needed a quick dinner before the next meeting. It was right before dinner rush time so they were in prep and setup mode. I didn't realize it was fast casual style so you order at the counter and they'll bring your order out to you. It was quick and convenient! I ordered a gyro pita, which was delicious and tender. They include pickled veggies inside, which add a perfect acidic bite along with a rich, creamy tzatziki. I'll be back for more! The space itself is bright and super clean. Even though it's fast casual style, it still has a restaurant vibe as they bring you water and set out silverware, floral arrangements, which all were nice touches. Also random, but interesting and a new experience... they have the world's fanciest toilet haha! The seat was heated and definitely had a bunch of fancy controls - bidet-style. read more

What a pleasant surprise on what ended up being a whimsical choice for lunch! This place was fantastic from start to finish! The food was amazing, prices were good, staff were friendly and helpful and I enjoyed the vibe of the entire place. First things first, I love fast casual and the new style of make your own food, pay, and eat. It's great and this place does it well with an excellent assortment of fresh meats, vegetables, and grains to choose from when selecting your food items. On my visit I tried the quinoa bowl with chicken, loads of vegetables, and their "sauces" which are almost like a soup they add on. I added on loads of vegetables and a dash of feta and viola a perfect lunch. Everything was perfect and delicious and the numerous flavors of the bowl were shocking. Had some of their variety pack baklava for dessert which was equally amazing. I just can't say enough about this place and I wish we had one in Buffalo where I live, I'd be there weekly. Ten dollars for a load of healthy delicious food is about as good as it gets! Can't wait to try something else during my next visit! read more

I'm giving this place 5 stars for service alone. All of the staff were so friendly, helpful, and accommodating. I was a bit lost on what to order, but Freddie, the man making my order, was so friendly and patient. Go Freddie! :) I ended up ordering the chickbasha pita with garlic sauce, chicken, lettuce, feta, and onions (I'm relatively picky and I'm not a huge fan of olives/artichokes/tomatoes). My friend and I also ordered hummus and spanakopita appetizers - both of which were very tasty. The pita was not the best (I saw them taking it out of a bag, but I also thought I saw them pulling some out of the oven, so I'm not exactly sure what the status is on that), but it was a fine vehicle for the delicious hummus! I would give this place 4/5 stars for the food - because while it was delicious, I think Cedar Mediterranean (and their chicken shawarma pita) has my heart. But that's not Basha's fault. ;) Keep up the great work guys! read more

Awesome Mediterranean food, with a heavy Lebanese influence. The beef shwarma pita was loaded with pickled and seasoned veggies, and some type of taziki-like sauce. A bit different than shwarma I've had before, but I loved it. Not charred or greasy. I also had the grape leaves, cabbage roll, and "loubia" which were all excellent, and not too oily or mushy. The cabbage roll was my personal favorite, with a great mix of lemon, garlic, and mint in the ground beef filling. Most of the food was made right in front of me, which was nice. Ingredients looked fresh, and the menu seems pretty healthy. The atmosphere was casual with indoor and outdoor seating - it was nice out so I sat outside. Overall a great experience, and I will definitely be going back to try the other pita sandwiches and some the of other more traditional-looking dishes. read more

Good decor and ambien. Located in a nice neighborhood. Good yummy food but a bit too pricey for what is. I mean, 5 pieces of dolmas or 4 pieces of falafels for $5ish? And I'm not talking about a huge one; they're regular size pieces. Quite a bit too much to spend. Their wraps are decent though. Very tasty combination of pickles and meat, served in a grilled wrap. I think that's what you should go for. Other than that, nothing to write home about really. If you want falafel or other middle eastern/Labanese cuisine, I strongly recommend "Sultan" in U of R/Strong area. read more

Went here for a quick dinner and was greeted with a smile and really fresh food. Good place to feel like a home made meal with love is made.

My boyfriend and I had a craving for Mediterranean food and decided to try this new spot. It definitely has a more upscale feel than I expected, and the prices are also higher than your average Mediterranean joint. The restaurant's layout is really modern and it's super clean.There's an order counter and assembly line-ish thing going on which the owner explained that it's for the lunch rush. There's a moderate amount of seating too, and if you're here for dinner that's where you'll be dining. The best thing is that it's an open-ish kitchen where you can see all the action while waiting for your food. I love seeing flames go up to the ceiling. Anyways, onto the food. For apps we got the grape leaves and falafel. The grape leaves is a must try! The dish was fragrant and has a nice tangy bite to it. The rice is soft and if you pair it with the various pickled veggies it's absolutely delish! The falafels were alright for me. I like that it wasn't too dry or bitter like some I've had in the past, but overall it was very salty to me. It's definitely a filling app though, and maybe if I could tolerate more tahini dressing it would have been less salty. Oh I forgot to mention, they give you huge fluffy breads! These are soft pita-like breads and they were so cute to eat! For entree I got the mashawe and my bf got the moussaka. My dish was huge! It had a combination of meats - sirloin kabob, gyro and chicken kofta. There was also rice, bean stew, hummus and also a pita bread. I absolutely loved how flavorful the meats were. My favorite was the gyro. It was so flavorful and had a meaty taste which I love. The chicken was tender and tasted really refreshing with the spices that they used. I was indifferent about the beans and rice. They lacked any flavor and was just a plate filler to me. My bf's moussaka was very interesting. It is basically another version of eggplant Parmesan. The layers are soft and had rich flavor. I especially liked the soft potato layer. It also came with beans and rice, but it was definitely a smaller dish than mine. The owner who was also the waitress for our table was really friendly and recommended different dishes. It's nice seeing an owner so hands on in her restaurant and who knows the menu so well. Was disappointed with my lunch choice today. Tried the beef shawarma. First it was described as a pita but was actually a wrap put in a panini machine. Second the beef was salty and tough chunks. Was expecting more shaved or shredded meat. Except for a bit of diced tomato and a couple of small pieces of pickled veg it was basically a chewy meat wrap. The tahini was spicy but wasn't enough to save the wrap. Wish I had checked the menu photos before I ordered. read more

Lunch only. My wife and I love this place for lunch, so we stopped in the other night with the kids for a quick dinner. Well, at night it converts to a sit-down place, but we had 45 minutes so we figured we were okay to sit and eat. Wrong. The service is really slow, so slow we figured we'd have to take our food to go if it was even ready in time. They put a rush on our order after we asked to pay in advance, and it still took over a half hour to come out. We didn't order anything fancy mind you, just some pitas. If this is rushing, I hate to see what regular speed would be. However, their haste was evident in the food. The pitas were pencil thin, including a tiny amount of filling and a lot of wadded up pita bread. The ones we get at lunch here are full of delicious ingredients, but these were pathetic. My wife got chicken, which was so rubbery she had to pick it out in order to eat the pita. With tip, it came to about $70, just for four pitas, sodas, and an appetizer. I'd say we'll be back for lunch, but the slow service, substandard food, and ridiculous prices at dinner will probably keep us away for good. And yeah, their food is good (when they make it right) but there are a lot of good Mediterranean places around: sinbad's, pita, and cedar to name just a few. read more

Specialty plates of Mashawe and Lamb Chops. Rice, white bean sauce, grilled sirloin kabob, gyro and chicken kofta kabob. Hot homemade Pita served with our meal. So many flavors and textures. This was our first visit. We were impressed with the salad options and happy that we were not limited to the number of toppings. This of the toppings included roasted cauliflower, roasted Brussels sprouts. My favorite. The Greek dressing was oil based and very tasty. I chose to add protein and the shrimp was cooked fresh while the salad was put together. My friend had falafel and said it was delicious. We will definitely be returning and highly recommend to anyone that enjoys Mediterranean food. read more

My go to place for a solid Falafel pita! I love this place and they are pretty consistent in terms of quality. The grape leaves and hummus are nice apps too. I can't write too much more as I haven't had much else to be honest. But I would say falafel is tough to pull off. It's dry at many places but they usually pull off the right consistency. The Fatoosh salad is very good but it could be improved. Give the choice of chicken or shrimp, add way more feta and kalamata olives and remove the Brussels sprouts. Add more dressing too. Now you have a great tasting salad. read more

I don't why I waited so long to try this place. I'm picky with Mediterranean food, because it's my favorite style of cooking, but Basha did not let me down. In the Roc area, I'd compare this to Saha Med Grill. Both are fast casual Chipotle-style eateries. I was heavily disappointed by Saha, but Basha is fantastic. I've been back multiple times already. My favorite has to be the grain bowl with white bean sauce and a variety of toppings that I'm always switching so I can try new combinations. Everything looks and tastes fresh. I've always been impressed with the staff, the restaurant is spotlessly clean, and the prices are more than reasonable. I've only ever had the grain bowl so I cannot speak to the other options, but you will definitely have left overs with the bowl. I would strongly recommend anyone try Basha, especially if you're a sucker for truly delicious Mediterranean food. read more

I've had the pleasure of eating here a couple times and it's joined the cravings list. I crave their gyros, or really any of their pitas. The grill pressed pita is still light with a nice crunch, the way a thin crust pizza talks to your inner gastronomic core. But what makes Basha stand out, because let's face it a gyro is a gyro right?!? WRONG... Basha stands above the rest because of their pickled veggies in it, and the tzatziki sauce is just better than everybody else's. The Schwarma rocks, and the Felafel stays with you until the last bite. I ate here on a whim the first time and I went 4 times that same week. My only criticism is that I couldn't eat the pitas and drive, but I could write this review and drive so....safety first, priorities second. read more

I am a frequent customer of Basha because it takes me back to an extended stay I had in the Middle East last year. The food is SEAMLESSLY authentic; it feels like I'm still there! Also, as a long-time member of the restaurant industry, I keep a closer eye (more than the average customer) on how restaurants are managed and their leadership. With Basha, it is apparent that the store is appropriately and pleasantly run by a passionate family who truly wants to pass down their tradition and adoration for their culture...which I find rare as a Rochester native. My husband and I went for a quick date night this past Saturday. We were served by the owner who was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Very proud of their food and heritage which you don't see often. Being a fan of Mediterranean I had to try numerous things - we ordered chicken wings, sirloin, chicken breasts, tabouli, and lentil soup. Being gluten free and dairy free myself and my husband following a keto diet this place had so many options! The entire menu is basically gluten, dairy and peanut/tree nut free beside the pita and dessert. The tabouli was made with quinoa and had fresh pomegranate in it! The chicken wings are baked/grilled and seasoned perfectly! Everything was fantastic and we had plenty of leftovers. The food was marginally OK. The place is loud and food is prepared while you watch sort of cafeteria style serving. The entire food prep area was filthy and no one wore hair nets which I believe is required. I have traveled in the Mediterranean having lived in Alexandria Egypt and Jeddah Saudi Arabia. I've also visited Athens for several weeks. I have this memory of Shwarma served from a normal restaurant to a street vendor food cart. The meat (usually Lamb) is always on a vertical spit and is in layers on this spit with the heat source behind. The meat is shaved off the spit making the sandwich. Basha on Monroe Ave has none of that. Do not go here hoping to relive any experience as I've described. The staff were polite but the food was expensive for Shwarma. read more
