We always drive by this restaurant but have never gone in... until now. We were pleasantly surprised at the clean and simple decor inside. We were seated at the communal table, which wasn't a big deal. The service was nice and the wait for food was a little longer than usual for a pho restaurant but that's not necessarily a bad thing. As we sat down, we noticed that there were hair on the table. The tables were unsanitized. It took way too long compared to any other restaurant to prepare the food. The soup base is too salty, the "cooked" bean sprouts were barely warm. The soup was too salty as well; it was saltier than miso soup, which was made ti be salty. The waitress was impolite and served us the food. After that was then when the waitress even gave us the utensils and a minimal amount of napkins. The fried noodles were mushy and tasted bland. In the washroom, the tap was very tedious to use because it turns off every second with its almost blind sensor. The food were all kid's sized and did not match their price at all. Even the soft drinks costed 2.25 per can. The chairs were also small compared to other chairs in other restaurants. The waitress looked upset or at least didn't smile too. Another small thing worth adding is that even after paying the hefty price, the waitress didn't thank us, which is strange since any other service would thank a customer. I don't understand the other reviews saying it's the best Vietnamese restaurant because it is at best mediocre. read more

We ordered spring rolls (phone ate last photo), garlic butter chicken, salad roll, chicken curry, and lemon grass chicken & pork chop rice combo...everything was tasty. Though the service was fine and the place was clean, I don't think I'd return. The flavours of the beef pho, bun bo hue, and garlic wings that I tried were lacking in depth. The pho broth looked nice and clear but had a film of oil on the surface. The bun bo hue was just kinda bland but both noodle dishes had a good ratio of meat toppings. The garlic wings were greasy and rather normal. I could see the bits of garlic but it didn't make a difference in flavour... probably not marinated, just tossed prior to deep frying. A very modern place to enjoy your Pho. Has an Ikea atmosphere. Bright, clean and natural light fills the room. Food is great, the spring rolls are smaller than the average size but still tasty. Staff are nice and friendly. read more

Oh - why or why are the good Pho places so far away from me?! I yelped this gem before heading to East Van (I reside in North Delta) and saw the great reviews and I have to agree this is a really nice, clean, and they make a great Pho! Ordered the medium with thin raw beef and brisket along with shrimp roll and crispy spring roll. The shrimp roll was ok, but I found the peanut sauce a bit too thick and tasted too much like Jiff Peanut butter melted. The fried spring roll was delicious and cut up in bite size and the Pho was pho-nomenal! Broth was clear, not oily, flavourful and did not need any seasoning added. The noodles were perfectly cooked and plenty along with the very tasty beef brisket. Service was friendly and efficient and what I loved about the place was there was no tv to be seen blaring on the wall- just serenity to enjoy the exquisite food :-) read more

I've been a huge fan of this place since it opened up in the neighborhood, truly some of the best pho I've ever had, and so much food! "I never had any issues with Basil Garden until now. I ordered a medium pho, they came confirmed with me TWICE. And served me. When I went to pay, it showed up as LARGE pho. When I said but I told you twice I wanted medium size. As a customer normally don't order pho, how would I know you served me a medium or large?! They just be like oh... still charged me for LARGE! There are many pho places in town, but this one hits the spot in terms of taste, quality and atmosphere. First of all its a bright, modern design, very clean and comfortable to sit in. Secondly the food was tasty and not full of msg. You can tell the flavours are coming from good quality ingredients. Hubby had the chicken curry on vermecilli. I had a taste and it was the perfect balance of spice and sweetness. I could really taste the lemongrass in it and the portion of chicken was really generous. I had the pho. Nice light yet beefy broth. We also shared the coldcut sandwich which was tasty. Maybe just a bit more mayo would be nice. I'm a huge fan of vietnamese mayo. Daughter had the butter chicken wings and scarfed them down. Nicely seasoned and fried. I also had the basil garden drink. Nice surprise because its a healthy drink! With chia seeds, basil seeds and aloe vera juice. Almost sounds like it could be a detox juice of some sort. Makes u feel less guilty eating out. Such a relief to finally have an amazing new pho joint in my neighbourhood. Friendly service, clean, modern and chic decor (unlike the old dingy looking ones) and of course delicious food. For appies you must try the buttery chicken wings and spring rolls. Came with my family and we all wanted to try something new. The Pho Dac Biet is the way to go, with the broth being very clean and it just hit the spot. The thin slices of rare beef was great quality and the soup was simple yet tasty. We also tried the chicken pho special and it was a hit as well. They used free range chicken and is definitely not comparable to other restaurants. First time visitors and we were very pleased. At first glance the prices are higher than your standard pho restaurant by a couple of bucks. The quality of the food quickly justifies the modest increase and then some. My wife had the house special chicken curry and I had the house special beef stew. They were both excellent. Many layers of flavour in both dishes were obvious and although we are not connoisseurs it was easy to pick out some of the fresh ingredients. We had a nice chat with the owners Phil and Qu and Phil's love of cooking and commitment to quality ingredients were evident. Add to this a clean and modern decor and the experience was great. Don't let the plain looking mini row of shops put you off. Drive past the the Mr. Sub and try this place. And after that try the one next door (Vallartas) too. Excellent food, excellent service. Broth is divine, clear and packed with flavour. Lemongrass chicken is juicy. Spring rolls made with old fashion rice wrap that gets bubbly when deep fried. On my second visit, they remembered to cut my son's sandwich into quarters and skip the jalapenos! I didn't think they even remembered us. The garlic chicken wings are sinful... probably made with real butter and garlic but I will ask for it on the side, as it can feel heavy quickly. read more

won't be going back.....at lunch I can never get through on the phone as it always goes to their fax line (this happens when a business is too cheap to pay for a separate fax and phone line). As a result I always have to go in and order....and wait. This time I actually got through on the phone! When I went in to pick up the order, the owner looked at me and said in an ubelievably passive aggressive tone "thanks for calling this time". It's hidden gem in the area! This place can get quite busy during lunch hours because there are some office buildings nearby. My family comes here at least twice every month. It's bright and clean, service is always good. We like their Vietnamese soup noodle, spring rolls and chicken wings are very tasty too.
