AWESOME pizza. I don't get down to Northfield often, but when I do I always hit up Basil's.

I can safely say that this place contributed to my freshman 15 back in my college days. For four wonderful years I would order their Gyro pizza with the extra size of tzatziki sauce. Each piece was cut into little squares perfect for dunking. The pizza is on a cracker thin crust, which is my favorite and the gryo meat is the real stuff off the rotisserie, not that fake thin stuff that you buy frozen at grocery stores. It's funny that people mention the similarity between Basil's and George's Vineyard's pizza. The story heard around town is that the owners of Basil's, George's Vineyard and B&L's are from the same family. There were some irreconcilable differences and each family member decided to start their own pizza place. After leaving Northfield I struggled to find a Gyro pizza that comes close to Basils. I never found it, which is why my husband and I make annual trips to Northfield for that delicious pie! read more

If you've ever had decent pizza in your life, this will be a let down. The only thing it has going for it is frankly all the pizza in Northfield sucks exactly this bad. If you've grown up on Papa Johns and Dominos, you might like it. For a thin crust, the pizza is surprisingly "limp". They cut it in a bunch of little squares which actually is the best part of the pizza--for people who like crust, grab a crust piece, your an inside guy, go for the interior square. I've heard it referred to as "Greek style" pizza which could be used interchangeably as a perjorative for "crap pizza". It might be better than Stouffers. Not better than a Digiorno. I'd take a Tombstone over it. read more

Let me preface this by saying that I have not had any 'traditional' types of pizza from Basil's (pepperoni, sausage, Hawaiian, etc.). What I HAVE had are their Greek-style pizzas. Which makes sense, as they are a Greek-style Pizzeria. So if you get food here, I recommend getting what they specialize in. For vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike, the Olympus pizza with tzatziki sauce is mind blowing. I don't even remember everything on it, but it's something like spinach, feta, tomatoes, black olives, etc. and dipped in that cucumber sauce it's to die for. In my opinion, as much as I adore Olympus, their creme de la creme is their Gyro pizza. This is pizza with pieces of sliced gyro meat on it, served with cucumber tzatziki sauce, and it is the food of gods. Visited a friend living in Northfield for the summer and was pleasantly surprised to have phenomenal pizza delivered to the door. The Gyro Pizza was really great, a unique and surprisingly delicious combo. Great thin-crust bread with lamb and a thick layer of cheese. I highly recommend getting extra tzatziki like some of the other reviewers, as it made the pizza taste amazing. Cheap too, a large Gyro Pizza delivered cost around $12 (it was enough to feed 3). read more

I went to college in Northfield and Basil's Pizza is mouth watering good. Try an XL Pineapple with Feta cheese pizza. Since discovering this topping combination I order it whenever a pizza place has feta as a topping (also awesome w/ jalapeno too), but alas it is NEVER as good as it was at Basil's...sigh.... Hands down the best pizza in Northfield. The sauce was always fresh and almost buttery, crust light and crispy and I loved being able to make pizza sandwiches out of the center pieces... nom nom nom. read more

Is there anything better than freshly made Greek pizza? This is a Northfield institution and a family restaurant that is a must visit. Their Olympus pizza is my favorite pizza probably on this planet and a place I stop every time I can. It's a wonderfully cozy location and has accessible parking and seating. There's something kind of endearing about this place, despite the fact that my veggie gyro is just a pita with lettuce and cucumbers.

There is no doubt that my love of Basil's is colored by (too) many debaucherous nights in college, but ten years after graduating, I confirmed at my recent reunion that Basil's (and the late lamented Bill's) pizza is as delicious as I remember, even without a 2 AM buzz to make it taste extra good. I've lived in two of the country's pizza capitals-- Chicago and New York-- and Basil's gyro pizza (with or without garlic ,but ALWAYS with extra tzatziki sauce) still stands as one of my all-time favorites. If only they delivered to the East Coast, they would be perfect! read more

Stopped in today with the family this is one of the few options for pizza in town but I figured what the hell. For what it is I will say I enjoyed it more then George's, but to me it's definitely not some of the greatest pizza I have had. Our server was nice courteous and polite but it seems as if Northfield struggles with making a good slice of pizza. I miss my pizzeria Lola or punch pizza back in the cities. Got the Athens pizza on superbowl Sunday. The pizza was not cooked enough. The crusty was doughy. Too much cheese and very greasy. Paid over $30 and ended up tossing 75% in the garbage. After eating one piece, me, my wife and my son all were disgusted by it and couldnt stomach any more. Was a complete waste of money. Horrible service that rotated from 3 different people, each not knowing what the other had completed. Salad wasn't even ready when pizza came to table. For all the hype and good reviews left by others I expected much better. We ordered an XL Basil's House Special and it was okay, but not great. My wife likes thin crust so that's what we ordered, and it was bland. The sauce likewise lacked flavor. Very good portions, in fact, I wish there were smaller portion options seeing as how I didn't need to eat a whole pizza (even a small) by myself. The greek salad was very tasty and consisted of lettuce, tomato, feta, olives, and a light dressing and some herbs sprinkled on top. I went with the Olympus pizza based on recommendations I saw on here. They did not skimp on the cheese. I thought it was good, not life-changing, and I wish I had tried the gyro pizza.. Right off the top, I'm biased. I did my undergrad at St. Olaf, and so Basil's is a sentimental favorite for me. Most of their pizzas are good-not-great, but the gyro pizza is my favorite pizza ever. It's absolutely delicious, and if you get it you cannot skip the tzatziki sauce., it's essential. I remember the exact day that I first had a slice, and it changed my life forever. From what I hear they make good gyros too, but I can't imagine ever getting anything but the pizza. read more
