I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Throughout the years I've gone to Carbones numerous times however, each time I've been disappointed with the quality of food and service. What really pushed me over the edge was an experience I had a year ago. My friends and I had made our way down to Carbones to buy some wings from their promotional event. During our time there we had waited for 30 min...then another 30 min and then another 30 min! Eventually, we got up and approached our waiter to ask where our food was. We were told that it would only be a little bit more time. So we waited about 30 more minutes and finally our food came out. To our surprise the wings that we ordered were all undercooked. When mentioning this to our waiter, and thus the general manager, she seemed very, VERY annoyed with us. Keep in mind that we had been waiting for about two hours. The general manager immediately snapped back asking what was the problem with food, even though it was obvious that they forgot about us and rushed our order (thus the raw wings). rather than admitting that they were undercooked, she said she would make us an order again more to our "liking" if you can't believe it, this isn't even the worst part of our experience! . When it came time to pay the bill we were informed the credit card service was off-line and we had to make a cash payment. We didn't know what to do because we did not have cash. The general manager came and informed us that we had to go to an ATM and withdraw cash. However, she made it very, very clear that we were not allowed to all go together, implying that we were going to try to "steal the food" and by implying, I mean, she said that , "You better not all leave, one of you has to stay". What made me so upset about this interaction is that we were the ONLY people of color inside of the restaurant and she did not have the same tone of voice or language with any of the other customers AT ALL! I paid very close attention to how she spoke to the other customers. It was not our fault that their credit card service went down, but the fact that she demanded that one of us stay while someone had to go to the ATM was so disrespectful. Keep in mind this was the manager saying this! We had been to Carbones multiple times before this, and we always tipped! It seems there was only 1 reason for her to treat us like this.... We ended up sending one person out to the ATM to collect cash and STILL left a tip because it was the manager treating us poorly not our waiter. Would not recommend this place to anyone! read more

I still can't figure out how this place is open other than the fact there's nowhere to go after about 8pm in this town. The service here is absolute shit. Always. Food is decent, but the chicken strips are overcooked. Drinks are always 2 for 1, but tonight it was a lot like my whiskey coke was a coke. I mean, it's a college sports bar. But Oles, if you're bored out of your mind come to Carbone's!! It's poppin on a Thursday night with 2 for 1 drinks, and actually pretty ok fried food? Pours are lighter than the contented cow, but super cheap. We got the Carbone's platter which was a steal and hit the spot for something greasy to cut the hangover. I was skeptical based on prior reviews. However, I had a good and satisfying experience. I had Reuben sandwich with Onion Rings. Plenty of food. Onion rings are hand made and well worth the try. Reuben was full of meat and also very tasty. I would return. Ordered pizza to go but it looks great. Nice thin crust and lots of cheese. My service was great. I ordered a house specialty and a cheese 14 inch pizza both pizzas tasted like they where frozen packaged pizzas and they cost me over $40. This is crazy. Carbone's is a great local pub for Northfield with many deals for college students. They have late night 2 for 1 drinks and also happy hour deals for appetizers. The cheese sauce was not good. I had a burger, and it was dry and under-done on half of the patty. My fries were soggy and brown, like they'd been refried. The last 4 times we've ordered they have come out with less and less sauce on them till this last time when we ordered take out, you could say it seemed more like they accidentally got sauce on them. I've had pretzels with cheese before. I've had pretzels with Cheez Whiz before. Carbone's marks the first pretzel I've ever been served with cheez jizz. As a Wisconsinite, I know cheese. But I have never encountered the "cheese" product that Carbone's offered up, which was, indeed, the consistency and color of watery semen. That said, why are you bothering eating here? This is my second time going to the Northfield carbones and it was, again, a big disappointment. Ordered a special they had going on with a large pizza, pound of wings, and free cheese bread. Went to pick up my order, and after being ignored for five minutes someone took the time to help me. Got my order, pizza was cold, got some weird looking chicken tenders, not wings, and they completely forgot my cheese bread altogether. Been here a few times. The food sucks. Had chicken 'tenders' tonight but they were dryer than my grannies elbow. Quite confident they were refried. Friend had fettuccine that tasted like an odd peppery paste swamped in garlic powder. That went back and we weren't charged to give them credit. They charged $1.50 for ice in Baileys. The service isn't great. But it's an ok place to watch sports and the happy hour drinks specials are good. We have been going to Carbones as a family ever since they opened this location. The pizza is wonderful and the beer selection is the best in Northfield as far as restaurants go. The servers are always friendly as well but the service is terrible. As long as we have been going there it has always been bad. We thought we would give them time to get their act together but it just never happened. Our order is screwed up almost every time we go there and good luck if you want silverware. With the sheer saturation of pizza places to choose from in Northfield, we thought they would make a better effort. Sorry Carbones, we won't be back.:( read more

With a town full of pizza joints you would think the owners would have a clue that turning away customers is bad for business. Yet, that just what they're doing. I grew up eating Carbone's in my hometown of Mahtomedi. I worked for them in high school. I love Carbone's Pizza. But, I will not order from this restaurant again. The orders have been wrong. Went to carbones for happy hour for the first time ever to try wing Wednesday. Ordered 6 dry rub and 12 garlic Parmesan. The dry rub were excellent but the 12 in Alfredo sauce were a very odd flavor considering we ordered 12 garlic Parmesan wings. I always order garlic Parmesan these were definitely just wings covered in Alfredo sauce so suffice to say wing Wednesday are a 1 and done visit for me. Nachos we're supposed to have queso which they didn't and when the waitress went back to tell them the cook claimed there was. But the waitress just gave us queso on the side which was fine. Service is up and down. Averaging my last several visits...some really good, some horrible, the joint is average. If you're not in a hurry and mediocre service doesn't bother you, the food is consistently good. Their fries rock, if the server gets them to you hot. And therin lies the rub. Terrible Service. No silverware. Had to ask. Then after 10 minutes went to bar and got from bartender on our own. Appetizer came out with our meal. Waitress was nowhere to be found. Even when food came out it was brought out by food runner. Asked 3 times for sour cream then got that up at bar too. Helped ourselves to to go containers or we would still be there. Won't be back. On their own website they said they are open late, 1am to be precise, but when I called at midnight for a delivery the lady on the other end, clearly annoyed, claimed that their kitchen closed at 11:00pm, despite being open until 1:00am. Well, went to have pizza and thought we would try a new place. Carbones opened up and sounded promising. Our waitress took our drink order and the night started great. We ordered our pizza "The Carbones House Special" on thick crust, we had to repeat this order three times as the waitress did not write anything down. After 45 minutes we received our pizza on thin crust!!! We requested another with thick crust, a we are now into dinner with a 2 year for over an hour before we received our pizza. It was Tuesday night and children under 12 eat for free, not a big deal, but the waitress should have known this. At my request the children's meal was taken off. As I was leaving someone pointed out the manager, I spoke with him and reiterated my experience and asked if this was how they handled customer service as a corporation, he replied no and informed me that our meals would be refunded. I have not seen this transaction on my bank statement as of yet but have seen the amount taken out. I will definitely question my families judgement if Carbones is suggested again.
