When you have Ferrets you need a quick reacting Vet because they go downhill so fast. These folks are great. Have had 2 appointments after same day calls and our ferrets were treated and taken care of. I have seen about 3 other Vets with our ferrets and I like this one hands down the best yet. read more

Dr. Muse is a great guy and cares very much for the animals he treats. We brought our ferret, Ruby for a vaccine and she had a bad reaction to the vaccine and started dying right in front of us. Dr. Muse promptly gave her treatment while also keeping us calm. She was a little touch and go for a few minutes but after he treated her, she began to recover quickly and within 24 hours she was back to her old (bad) self. If it were not for the quick actions and caring heart of Dr. Muse, I don't think Ruby would have made it. For his trouble, he got a handful of ferret diarrhea. This vet office is pretty pricey, I will admit, but their service and heart is worth the price when you're taking care of your family. Thank you, Dr. Muse. Ruby thanks you as well. She feels bad about pooping on you but is grateful you helped her feel better. She wanted me to relay that next time, she won't be as hard on you! read more

I have been a happy client here with my two dogs for a couple of years. Dr. Denver has been great. However, when trying to schedule a dental for my dog, they wanted $200+ for a consultation, when the dog was just seen by Dr. Denver three months ago. She's obviously healthy, and Dr. Denver has seen her recently. In addition, the front desk staff mentioned that the dental would be well above $700 (which is the amount that I threw out). I've contacted small animal vets that I know personally, and they can do much better than this rate. I wanted to be loyal to Dr. Denver, but the front desk staff is unwilling to acknowledge my concerns about costs. read more

Today was my first visit to Basin Run. I can not even begin to put into words how amazing our experience was with Dr. Muse and team. They accomadated our pup and took care of an issue that another clinic was unable to perform due to his challenging behavior. I have a 13 month German Shepherd who is afraid of people, it makes him loud and aggressive. The team worked flawlessly together from beginning to end. They took their time to make our boy feel comfortable and safe. I never thought that his behavior would/could change so drastically to allow the team to be able to accomplish the task of reapplying staples to a neuter with out being put under. Our previous clinic it took them 45 minutes just to be able to tranqulize him for pre-surgery. I fully appreciate them fitting us in on a Saturday for a new puppy patient. 2 days ago, our family had to make that hard decision that all pet owners have had to make...no matter how many times, it never gets easier. Cold, clinical, and efficient...all while the next furry patient waits for the room. Basin Run was the exact OPPOSITE of this. The 'Comfort Room' was warm, and likened to a living room. Housed completely separate from the waiting room and exam rooms, you can grieve privately and leave without passing by other pets and their owners. Our Burger was able to lay in a bed, bask in the sun while looking out at the woods, a tranquil fountain in the corner, a cozy couch...no metal table, no tile floor, no one waiting for the room. I didn't realize how cold the process typically is, until we were shown it didn't have to be so. Dr. Smetana and the rest of Basin Run's staff was incredibly compassionate, soft, and warm. They have the unique ability to make you feel in control, in a situation that is completely out of your control. Without a doubt, this is our go-to vet for every single one of our fur babies, from checkups to their final goodbye. read more

Dr. Muse was very knowledgeable and took the time to fully explain his thought process in easily understandable terms. I felt very confident in his diagnosis. But more impressive was the assistant, Brandon. This was my dog's first visit to Basin Run Animal Hospital as his regular vet was not able to fully help him without an appointment on a Saturday. The staff was made aware of my dog's extreme aggressive behavior in a veterinarian setting. When my dog went into "demon mode", Brandon remained steadily calm and compassionate, he did not even flinch. Brandon's steady mannerism and constant soothing helped to reassure my dog and kept him from spiraling into full blown demon spawn mode. By the end of the appointment, Steve and Brandon were "friends" and my dog left with his ears up and tail wagging. ( First time ever!) Just returned from another thorough, friendly and fantastic visit to Dr. Kilby and her extremely competent staff at Basin Run Animal Hospital in Colora, Md. We had purchased one of Dr. Kilby's scottie pups 18 months ago (she breeds beautiful scottish terriers in her "spare" time), and she has provided some of the best veterinary care we've seen. She spent 90 minutes(!) with us, going over our dog inch by inch, patiently answering all of our questions and running a series of in-depth tests to help determine the source of his challenges (allergies). We travel over an hour to visit her hospital and it's well worth it for the care she provides. She and her team are very accomodating and understanding about the distance and Dr. Kilby is diligent about talking with us via phone when we can't make a visit. I'd recommend the trek to Colora, MD anytime! read more

Do not leave your animal at this place. My family left our dog in their care for two weeks while we were on vacation. When we picked him up he had lost weight, hair and was a nervous wreck. While in their care was barely fed and kept in a cage 24 hours a day. When we called to check on him they told us everything was fine. Meanwhile they were giving him large doses of hormones in his food and spraying them on his blanket without our knowledge. They then tried to convince us that our dog had a chronic illness and to let them perform numerous expensive tests. Thankfully our dog recovered his health and happy demeanour after a few weeks of being home. We'll never use this place again. read more

My family had started taking our pets to Basin Run within the last year. We have been pleased with the services there, but recently suffered the loss of our beloved cat. When she became sick, we took her to Basin Run for diagnosis and treatment, and ultimately learned that she had cancer for which she could not be treated, and that she was suffering. We made the difficult decision to have her euthanized, and the staff at Basin Run could not have been kinder. They made immediate arrangements for a doctor to be available at my convenience. When I arrived, they made it simple to dispense with administrative matters, and took me to a "comfort room" that was comfortable, attractive, and very homey. They gave me time alone with my pet-as much as I needed- and were very accommodating and sympathetic. My cat had a peaceful end to her suffering. The staff were comforting and compassionate in every way. The next day, flowers were delivered to my home from Basin Run expressing sympathy for my family's loss. This is not the first time I have lost a pet, but this is the most compassion I have ever experienced from a veterinary clinic. Love Basin Run. We love how clean they are. I have 9 cats and a lot of them have medical issues and that means that they cannot get the preventive shots they need on regular basis. I love the fact that they work with me on this issue and love the fact that I can put them on the floor or any table and I know it was desinfected before the other pet comes in. The staff and Doctors are very caring. Just love the place. The only reason why I did not give 5 Stars is............they are a bit pricey for somebody who has 9 animals and a low income. They used to charge $7.00 Dollars for the claw-cut. Now they charge $19.00. With 9 animals.........I just can't bring them any longer on a regular basis. (now,......I know what you're thinking. You think "why have 9 animals if you don't have the money"......well......life just brought them into our yard or we just found them in need....and we just had to take them. hahahahah. We were young and did not know then that animals actually also get old and sicker and will cost more money than just the food and love and care. In other words......."we are suckers for animals in need". But Basin Run is really good. If you have the money..... DEFINATELY go for it. read more
