I can't say how amazing our stay here was! The staff is so nice and the owner himself introduced himself to us at breakfast. They upgraded our room which really made our anniversary special. The bed and pillows were so soft and comfy it was like we were sleeping on a cloud. I normally get up and rush off to do things on vacation but this room was so comfy I slept in late and stayed until the very last minute for check out (vs leaving at 8am like we did at other B&Bs we stayed at). The robes and ammenties were great! The room was nicely decorated and even had a rubber duckie in the tub! The snacks in the pantry were amazing and the wine hour was great! The inn is in a perfect location for walking into town and it was very spacious with lots of open areas to sit and relax or mingle with other guests. The staff was very informative about things to do in the area and dinner suggestions. They never made me feel rushed despite others coming in who needed to check in. The only bad thing was the wifi which didn't work at all for me but the place was so nice I didn't want to be on my phone other than to share pictures of how amazing it was. The salt and pepper room was great!! Note: we visited several years back ~transferring post over from my old trip advisor account but plan to visit again on upcoming anniversary loved it SO MUCH!

As we get older, seems that more often we're staying in BNBs and small inns. This one is fabulous. It's right in the middle of downtown with plenty of parking. Maybe a five minute walk to the waterfront. Nicely appointed and very clean and comfortable. Eddy, the Innkeeper, assisted by Naomi did everything possible to make our stay memorable and enjoyable. Perhaps best of all is the food. Simply the best breakfasts I've ever had. Period. All cheerfully served by the friendly and personable Jill! If you're planning on a long stay, opt for a lower floor. There is no elevator, so large luggage on the narrow stairs might be a challenge.

The beautiful exterior of the Bass Cottage Inn!

Once my (now) wife and I decided to head to Bar Harbor for our honeymoon in October, the Bass Cottage Inn very quickly caught our eyes. After seeing many positive reviews, we went ahead and booked a room to make sure we got a spot. In short, we were definitely not disappointed! The assistant innkeeper, Susan, called to make sure we were ok when our flight was a little later than intended, and we pretty much felt spoiled from them on. She helped up take our bags to our room, which was at the very top of the house, after which we got settled in. The breakfast the next morning (and every morning after that), was nothing short of amazing. The coffee was good (and we're quite picky about coffee), the juice was good, and oh my gosh the food was good. It's a wonder I didn't gain 20 pounds while we were there. Beyond that, Jeff and Teri were helpful in every way possible, offering to help find things to do, tell us what food in the area was good, even helping us conquer our fear of eating a whole lobster! The snacks that constantly stocked the guest pantry were always amazing, and having coffee, tea, and hot chocolate available all the time was amazing (if a bit dangerous). There's even a closet full of movies to pick from! The room itself was amazing. It was stocked with everything we could want, including a nice pitcher of fresh iced water. The bed was insanely comfortable, and the bathroom was quite nice with a cool sort of classic charm to it. Sure, the TV is a bit small, but who wants to watch TV when you have that amazing harbor out the window? They even randomly left a nice vase of flowers in our room while we were out one afternoon! I could honestly ramble about the awesomeness of our stay at the Bass Cottage all day, but I won't waste any more of your time. Just go stay here and find out for yourselves!

It's not hard to see why Bass Cottage has such glowing reviews. Our five-night stay there was completely comfortable. Pair that with a stellar location, and good food (my favorite part of a B&B!), and you have a solid choice for your Bar Harbor vacation. ACCOMMODATIONS The structure is beautiful, several stories, well-decorated, and impeccably kept. Our room, #6 -- on the 2nd floor -- was perfect with its coastal theme, and large bathroom. If I had a gripe it would be that the room stayed warmer than my husband liked (despite the ceiling fan), and that the shower was teeny-tiny. But the soaking tub made up for it, and was a welcome retreat after several long hikes. The location is excellent: it's on a private street, tucked back from the hustle and bustle of the village; but is still steps away from all the action, and the water. There are several common rooms, appropriate for lounging or playing board games. Wish the game selection had been stronger, but the DVD library was quite diverse. The grand piano is available to guests, and the afternoon I sat down to tickle the keys, the staff kindly turned off the house music. The butler's pantry is awesome -- tea, coffee, water available all day. Space in the refrigerator for your own wine, etc. And a selection of yummy baked goods changed each day we were there. There's also free wifi, that was plenty fast and reliable for me to handle work. FOOD The breakfasts always included a double-stacked muffin, choice of juice (the cranberry-orange blend is great!), and an entree -- either a healthy yogurt & fruit option, or a featured dish. We enjoyed fruit pancakes, huevos rancheros, and the salmon dish the most. Portions are hearty, and fueled us well on our vacation adventures. We have been to many B&Bs that enforce communal dining, and I found it refreshing to be dispersed at two-tops, and allowed private conversation, instead. STAFF The gals who took care of us at breakfast were very sweet, and provided great service. Similarly, our interactions with the front desk were good. I've read some reviews that find the owners distant, and I can see how folks might get that impression just because they allow their guests a great deal of personal space. However, when we wanted recommendations on restaurants or trails, they were happy to oblige.

There is a parking space for a car for every room. When we arrived, we got a thorough welcoming from Matt. He showed us on a map some suggestions of where to eat. The inn is an easy walk from the town and about a five minute drive from the entrance to Acadia National Park. We didn't partake in breakfast, but saw many others enjoying it. They have a beautiful deck with plenty of seating, and Adirondack chairs in the yard to enjoy the stars. They keep the lights and music on all night, so no matter when you arrive home, you feel comfortable and safe. The only thing that we missed was access to ice. There is a tiny machine in the breakfast room, but that only makes enough ice for about 3 drinks for the whole place. We had to buy ice at the Circle K every day and keep it in our cooler in the room for our water bottles and cocktails. If you ever travel to Bar Harbor, this is the place to stay!!! Best view ever!!!

There's so much character and thought placed into designing every nook and cranny of this Inn. The front desk lady was very friendly and accommodating. Our room was quite small - barely fitting a queen size bed in the room, leaving minimal walking space. Our bathroom was also very small. It had a toilet, a small sink, and a very narrow shower. We didn't mind the size of the room because we spent most of our time hiking around Acadia. The staff at Maples Inn was very kind and shared some of their favorite hikes and their tips and tricks into finding the best experiences. The lobby also has a few snacks that are perfect grab and go for the trails. Their breakfast is also tasty, delicious and cooked on order! One thing to note is that they have 2 small, gravel parking spots on either side of the inn. They will also provide a parking permit for your car that will cover street parking during the dates of your stay at the inn. During peak season, I can only imagine how hard it must be to find parking nearby though.

Appreciated the heater in the bathroom. Loved being greeted by the geese family on property in the morning and afternoon just outside our balcony. Our balcony had a couple of chairs with a table. We noticed the room beside us had a couch and bar stools in their balcony. While our balcony had cobwebs in every ceiling corner (lots of spiders on the railing), we were still able to enjoy the majestic sunrise views. Expedia told us after a day that the owner would not waive their no refund fee so I'm out $380 for that second night. You're better off camping in a tent. Never again.
