It's hard to leave the Atlantean. After three nights at the Inn in July 2018, I am plotting my return. Brad and Nadine, the innkeepers, welcome guests to the Atlantean with unusual warmth and take pains with the maintenance of the historic building. This is only Brad and Nadine's second season operating this longstanding bed and breakfast. Their enthusiasm about their endeavor and investment in guests' experience is apparent in every interaction. Brad and Nadine ventured to Maine for this new enterprise / gutsy adventure with impressive experience in D.C.'s hospitality and culinary worlds. It is very clear from how they treat guests and tend to the property that they maintain extraordinarily high standards for themselves and take great pride in their work. Brad runs the front of the house, so to speak, welcoming guests and serving the beautiful breakfast meal. Nadine, who is a pistol, is behind the scenes more, usually in the kitchen. Say hello if you can, she'll certainly have something to say. Talking with them both about their experiences and perspectives stands out as one of the most interesting aspects of the visit. Attention to detail abounds within the Inn, including the unique modern art adorning the walls, select books in the living room and well-placed vases of simple flower arrangements from the garden. "Spa water," infused with hints of mint, citrus and cucumber, an assortment of tea and coffee is available all day long in the butler's pantry. I found myself anticipating the homemade chocolate chip cookies, which magically appear every afternoon. As for the room, the Wingwood, which was the study of the original home, is the only one on the ground floor and has a private porch. The porch affords you your own entrance by the parking lot. The bathroom is quite large and features a (much-enjoyed) bathtub with whirlpool. The space is extremely clean and comfortable. None of the flower-covered, lacy décor standard in many bed and breakfasts here. The Wingwood is a welcome retreat from the touristy, crowded streets of Bar Harbor during peak season. The Atlantean Inn stands out due to the quality of customer service, the genuine care and attention with which guests are received. My stay at the Atlantean reminded me of Danny Meyer's book, Setting the Table, as Brad and Nadine illustrate many of the ideas that Meyer discusses about successful customer-facing businesses, such as hospitality quotient.

Gary and Heidi really make you feel at home on this gorgeous, spotless Inn. Gary makes a breakfast fit for royalty and both always make us feel welcome. This is our sixth or seventh year here on vacation and would never think of going elsewhere. Thanks you Heidi and Gary!!!

There is a gravel lot for parking, which is convenient since most restaurants and experiences can be walked to in town, helping you avoid the fight for parking. We stayed in the Charter Suite - I only wish it had been cold enough for us to use the working fireplace. That would have added extra charm! Kristi met us as we checked in and provided a warm welcome, even a warm send off by providing us muffins to go for our early flight. My fiancée and I greatly enjoyed our stay and are hopeful to one day return to Bar Harbor and Saltair Inn.

We stayed on the 3rd floor in the Beehive Suite. It was a bit of a trek going up and down as many times as we did, especially with heavy luggage, but we loved the room and the view!!!! And we never heard a single other guest during our stay. They have a great HVAC system that keeps the third floor very cool. And the bed and pillows were very comfortable. There is a parking space for a car for every room. When we arrived, we got a thorough welcoming from Matt. He showed us on a map some suggestions of where to eat. The inn is an easy walk from the town and about a five minute drive from the entrance to Acadia National Park. We didn't partake in breakfast, but saw many others enjoying it. They have a beautiful deck with plenty of seating, and Adirondack chairs in the yard to enjoy the stars. They keep the lights and music on all night, so no matter when you arrive home, you feel comfortable and safe. The only thing that we missed was access to ice. There is a tiny machine in the breakfast room, but that only makes enough ice for about 3 drinks for the whole place. We had to buy ice at the Circle K every day and keep it in our cooler in the room for our water bottles and cocktails. If you ever travel to Bar Harbor, this is the place to stay!!! Best view ever!!!

First of all - service was great. We were getting in later than what we thought, around 9:30 or so, but that was no issue for them. They were there to meet us as soon as we got in! I was also able to buy a national park pass, forward it on to them to print for me so we could get hiking early in the morning! There were four of us in two separate rooms. Our first night both of us couples were in the Acadia Cottage. This was a cute cottage with I believe 4 rooms. Both of our rooms were very spacious! My only complaint with the room was that there was not enough lighting in the bathroom. There was only one small overhead light that did not provide enough light - especially in the shower area. I also appreciated that there was a small fridge in the common area of this house that could be shared among the 4 rooms in this building. Made it great for us since we like to fix our lunches when traveling! On the second night, one of us was in a garden cottage (on its own! very quiet and nice) and one of us was in the main house on the top floor. After getting to see and stay in different rooms, I would probably not stay in the main house again. It can get noisy with people coming and going at different hours to go on different tours. Also, the layout is not as spacious as the other rooms - some awkward layouts. Breakfast was lovely! They fixed a different meal each time. The only con, is if you do not like something, you will have to go somewhere else because not much else is offered other than the main fixing. For example, one morning was corn beef and hash. No thanks, so I ended up having oatmeal. Not much else for me. The only other thing I would suggest to the Inn is that they fix their ability to multi book a room. It was a pain to book. We booked the 4 last rooms on these two nights. Because we were changing rooms, I could not book different rooms all at once. I had to individually book every room. So it was a little time consuming and mundane. Would have been nice if I could have added all 4 rooms into a "cart" and then checked out. Definitely recommend this place, but if you are a light sleeper and want room, be careful on the room you pick to stay in.

Rooms were pristine, spacious, and charming. And the rest of the shared common space was elegantly decorated. Staff was awesome. Will be back.

There's so much character and thought placed into designing every nook and cranny of this Inn. The front desk lady was very friendly and accommodating. Our room was quite small - barely fitting a queen size bed in the room, leaving minimal walking space. Our bathroom was also very small. It had a toilet, a small sink, and a very narrow shower. We didn't mind the size of the room because we spent most of our time hiking around Acadia. The staff at Maples Inn was very kind and shared some of their favorite hikes and their tips and tricks into finding the best experiences. The lobby also has a few snacks that are perfect grab and go for the trails. Their breakfast is also tasty, delicious and cooked on order! One thing to note is that they have 2 small, gravel parking spots on either side of the inn. They will also provide a parking permit for your car that will cover street parking during the dates of your stay at the inn. During peak season, I can only imagine how hard it must be to find parking nearby though.
