We had a very relaxing stay here - just wish we had more of a chance to try some of the delicious breakfasts. If you're a history buff, you'll love catching up on some of the details about the construction and design of the property, including the quarry from where the stone for the facade came from. Really cool to check out a place built more than a century ago. The rooms we stayed in came equipped with a few modern touches. My husband and I stayed in the Chatswold, with body jets in the shower. My parents went with the Tallyrand and loved the built-in steam room after the weather turned and we got rained out coming back from brunch. The only downside to the room was that the bathroom door didn't shut completely and would swing a little ajar. One perk of a B&B that I always like is the innkeepers' little touches. The one breakfast we did try - scones and huevo rancheros - was absolutely delicious, big kudos to Brad and Nadine for making everything from scratch. I could have eaten five more of the scones. The warm chocolate chip cookies put out every afternoon were also very much welcomed. There were also bananas and cold bottled tap water. Super convenient location - the downtown strip is only a minute away and you're smack dab in between a ton of great restaurants (Havana and Peekytoe are a few steps down, Choco Latte has great muffins and coffee). It's hard to leave the Atlantean. After three nights at the Inn in July 2018, I am plotting my return. Brad and Nadine, the innkeepers, welcome guests to the Atlantean with unusual warmth and take pains with the maintenance of the historic building. This is only Brad and Nadine's second season operating this longstanding bed and breakfast. Their enthusiasm about their endeavor and investment in guests' experience is apparent in every interaction. Brad and Nadine ventured to Maine for this new enterprise / gutsy adventure with impressive experience in D.C.'s hospitality and culinary worlds. It is very clear from how they treat guests and tend to the property that they maintain extraordinarily high standards for themselves and take great pride in their work. Brad runs the front of the house, so to speak, welcoming guests and serving the beautiful breakfast meal. Nadine, who is a pistol, is behind the scenes more, usually in the kitchen. Say hello if you can, she'll certainly have something to say. Talking with them both about their experiences and perspectives stands out as one of the most interesting aspects of the visit. Attention to detail abounds within the Inn, including the unique modern art adorning the walls, select books in the living room and well-placed vases of simple flower arrangements from the garden. "Spa water," infused with hints of mint, citrus and cucumber, an assortment of tea and coffee is available all day long in the butler's pantry. I found myself anticipating the homemade chocolate chip cookies, which magically appear every afternoon. As for the room, the Wingwood, which was the study of the original home, is the only one on the ground floor and has a private porch. The porch affords you your own entrance by the parking lot. The bathroom is quite large and features a (much-enjoyed) bathtub with whirlpool. The space is extremely clean and comfortable. None of the flower-covered, lacy décor standard in many bed and breakfasts here. The Wingwood is a welcome retreat from the touristy, crowded streets of Bar Harbor during peak season. The Atlantean Inn stands out due to the quality of customer service, the genuine care and attention with which guests are received. My stay at the Atlantean reminded me of Danny Meyer's book, Setting the Table, as Brad and Nadine illustrate many of the ideas that Meyer discusses about successful customer-facing businesses, such as hospitality quotient. read more

Impressive property and great location. Slightly off the beaten path down a quiet side street, but close enough to walk to everything downtown. Our room was very large and comfortable with premium bedding and linens, full size toiletries and modern bathroom. Very unique furnishings, art and accessories - curated with a decorator's eye. Two-course SERIOUS gourmet breakfast on the porch in the beautiful weather - something different every day. Innkeepers are super helpful with questions, recommendations and dinner reservations. We were so so lucky. A very last minute impromptu 4th of July led us to a frantic search for vacancy in Bar Harbor. And there were only two slightly more expensive rooms among the better received bunch. We ended up picking Atlantean and Mizzentop Suite over the other because the pictures on the website seem more quaint without being old and we were so happy about that decision. The yellow floral wallpaper, the wood panel window overlooking the garden, the super-sized bathroom and hot tub, the comfortable and organic linens, and, most importantly, Heidi and Gary's hospitality made this trip one of the best New England gateways I've ever had. Waking up in the morning, you will be fed by Gary who cooks a wonderful breakfast that will get anyone ready for a full day of activities. If unsure of what to do in Arcadia, you can always find several guide books in the sitting room or get the advice from Heidi and Gary. In the mood for an afternoon snack? Cookies await in the pantry. There is always hot water ready for an evening tea. It was just perfect. I already wanted to go back as we were pulling back after a 3 day/2 night trip. I want to go back even more. I would go to Atlantean every year if I can. And trust me, you would too. read more

I am already feeling a bit homesick for The Atlantean Inn as I write this from a supposedly "luxury" hotel in Boston. The Atlantean is true luxury in terms of comfort, service, and location. We stayed three nights in The Wingwood room. Having never stayed at a B&B, I was concerned I wouldn't like the experience. I feared we would lack privacy and amenities. Not at all the case. It truly felt like we were at home and I have never slept so well at a hotel. Gary and Heidi were incredibly welcoming, but never intrusive. We certainly appreciated their advice on how best to explore Bar Harbor and Acadia. I cannot think of anything that could have improved our stay. Truly a gem. read more

The Atlantean Inn is a great B&B option in the Bar Harbor area. It's located only a few blocks from the main strip of restaurants and bars and a short car ride to Acadia for a visit. Heidi and Gary were great hosts for the one night we stayed. They let us check in a bit early, had some great refreshments in the pantry and made an awesome breakfast the next morning. The room was large and it looked very well maintained. The bed was comfortable and everything was clean. They even had a parking lot in the back which was key for this area. Parking can be tough. Overall I would definitely stay here again if I go back to Bar Harbor. read more

I'm not one to leave reviews because I usually just forget. Well this place is unforgetable!!! I've stayed at a few B&B's in the past and this one is ranked one of my all time favorites!!! As soon as you see the place you smile because it's just gorgeous! Then you smile again because the owners, Brad & Nadine are just lovely people! We stayed in the Talleyrand room and it was spacious, with big windows that let in a lot of sunshine. Yes, you'll be smiling again. :) Breakfast was DELICIOUS! You'll eat foods you never thought you would, like fennel and edible flowers in grits, and your mouth will have a party it tastes so good!!! The pancakes were not just pancakes, they were melt in your mouth pancakes!!! Brad swears it's the brand, Kate's Buttermilk that makes them this way! The Atlantean is perfectly located to all the Bar Harbor attractions. No need to drive, you can just walk. Acadia National Park is a quick 10 min drive, if that. This is seriously the ultimate in B&B experience. If your spouse is hesitant this place will definitely change their perception of B&B. My first B&B was horrible, small room with closet turned into a tiny bathroom. You won't find this here...They have modern massive sized bathrooms mixed with Victorian flavors with their living space. The dining room was intimate for couples and with some privacy. The food (although vegetarian) was out of this world. Everything tasted amazingly wonderful...And to boot Gary and Heidi was the most gracious host who truly enjoy serving people and making sure they have a memorable time. We stayed in their newest remodel room, it was pricey for us but it was a priceless memory. If you visit Bar Harbor, you've got to try this place out...You won't regret it. read more

Traveling clear across the U.S., you just never know what to expect. We were visiting Bar Harbor, and I had originally reserved at a hotel, which looked great on the website, but good old Yelp said different. So I decided to change hotels. It being Labor Day weekend, there wasn't much available, most places were booked. So when I stumbled upon the Atlantean Cottage Inn B&B, which actually had a vacancy, I was skeptical. But just one room, so maybe it was a cancellation. I booked it, and hoped for the best. And that's what we got. First, driving up to it, I was pleased to see a big old house, with lots of trees around, on a nice quiet street. Then, driving to the back parking area, I began to notice the impeccably maintained and cleverly furnished grounds. In the parking lot, we ran into Heidi, who greeted us very warmly. You sorta expect that from a B&B, and Heidi and Gary make you feel immediately like they are glad you could come stay with them. You can't help but feel very welcome. We checked in (quite a simple process, which involved signing an iPad screen...), we got the tour, and grabbed a couple of the great cookies that Heidi had baked just for us (okay, for everybody). Gary led us up to our room, the Mizzentop Suite, a couple of flights of stairs, but worth the climb. It was 4 rooms, with a huge jacuzzi tub, and a nice sitting room with skylight. I noticed that all the windows were open, with a nice cool breeze coming through. We never closed them, even with the rainstorms that came through while we were there. Breakfast was great, just a bit rich for a couple of West Coast folks, on a different time zone, with light early morning appetites. The smell of baking coming up through the place helped. At breakfast, we were discussing our plans with Heidi, and she brought out a CD with a driving tour of Acadia Park. It was a very cloudy, foggy day, so we didn't see much of the ocean, but the park was beautiful nonetheless. The location of the Inn is perfect. 3 doors down to the end of the street, and you're in the main part of town. You can leave your car behind, and Gary will send you to one of the great restaurants in town (his suggestion about the car). The vibe, the people, the location, and the impeccable condition inside and out make this a great, solid choice. You will not be disappointed. It is rare that I can say everything was perfect, but this was one of those times. read more

Beautifully restored historic mansion with modern comfort. We had the smallest room (Elsinore), which was more than ample for our stay in Bar Harbor. Within 10 minutes of our late afternoon arrival, Heidi recommended a perfect sunset hike in Acadia and sent us on our way with snacks, reusable water bottles, and a map of the park! The Atlantean is just small enough to be a welcome change from hotel stays, and just large enough that you don't feel like an awkward houseguest. Our room was very quiet with an updated bathroom and very comfortable bedding. There is no wi-fi and the TV looked small and old, but we didn't miss either and welcomed the chance to unplug. Breakfast, which I believe is always vegetarian, was filling and delicious. In addition to the formal living room, there is a covered front porch and large outdoor garden for guests to enjoy. read more

Ahhhhhhmazing!!!! My wife and I have stayed in 4 b&bs during our 2 week trip along the Maine coast, and the Atlantean was by far our favorite!!! Amazing breakfast! Amazing room! Amazing stay! Innkeepers Brad and Nadine were enormously helpful and friendly, and are both trained chefs so the breakfasts are phenomenal! The inn is within walking distance of anything in Bar Harbor you could want to see or shop, and the butler's pantry is always open for the quick chocolate chip cookie or cup of coffee! I can not recommend Atlantean cottage enough. Gary and Heidi were amazing. From helping find the perfect hikes and restaurants to Gary's amazing breakfast. The bed was super comfortable and Heidi went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. Also the outdoor area is super cute and great to sit and read. They were super responsive to email and helpful in coordinating travel plans. The location is great, on a quiet street but a block from downtown. We can't wait to come back soon! read more
