My husband and I spent a few days at the Primrose Inn to explore Bar Harbor in mid-April. I have nothing but good things to say! When we first drove in, it was already late at night. The parking lot is small but we were able to find a spot. It's not the most well-lit so be careful when parking/walking. Checking in was easy, we called the number at the front desk and someone came to help us. We even got a late night snack (chocolate mousse) to bring up to our room. The inn is a cute, quaint little house that feels very warm and homey. Our room had a bed with a giant wooden bedframe and the amenities were clean and simple. We got a pair of super comfortable robes too! Now, let's talk food. Every day, you go downstairs into a cute little parlor/tea room. There's always a sweet option and a savory option, and everything is made fresh in house. I mean it when I say these were some of the best breakfasts I've had in my life! Pancakes, waffles, French toast, breakfast quiches... always with a healthy side of fresh fruit and some carb or meat. I seriously looked forward to waking up every day just so I could find out what the breakfast options were. My husband likes sweet and I like savory so we always each ordered one and shared. Again, seriously the best breakfasts I've had in my life!! As if that wasn't enough, they provide daily afternoon "tea time" snacks too! The baked goods were heavenly! We loved this place. The room was cozy, the bed was comfy, the pillows were fluffy and the breakfast/snacks were wonderful. We stayed 2 nights during the off season, and walked to nearly everything. The staff was all very friendly. If I had to make a small recommendation for an improvement, it would be that the curtains in the room were not wide enough to fully cover the windows. But that feels very minor compared to how good everything else was. There wasn't really any foot traffic outside our windows, so it wasn't a big deal, but if there had been you could really see in. read more

Charming Stay with a Few Bumps I really wanted to love The Primrose-and in many ways, I did. The accommodations were cozy, clean, and full of character. Anna, in particular, was incredibly warm and welcoming, and the rest of the staff made us feel right at home. That said, our experience was affected by a persistent issue in our room. Every time the guests above us used water-whether at the sink, toilet, or in the shower-the pipes let out an alarming, high-pitched screech and shake that sounded like they were about to rip through the wall. Unfortunately, the head of my bed was positioned directly against the loudest spot, and the noise jolted me awake multiple times during the night. It genuinely impacted my ability to get a restful night's sleep. If you're a light sleeper, l'd recommend asking for a different room (16)-hopefully one that's not beneath a bathroom. Otherwise, this inn has a lot of charm and hospitality to offer. read more

Come stay this hotel if you like the smell of aeresolized feces. The bathroom had no mechanical ventilation or window, which is an illegal code violation. I came here for a romantic get away with my partner, but instead we endured a room filled with the stench of human feces as well as particles coating every surface of the bathroom and bedroom. This is highly unsanitary and embarrassing. The steam from the shower also could not be ventilated leading to everything, including medicine, clothes, etc. getting covered in both moisture and feces particles, a swampy hellscape. The room included a seating area as well. Clearly, no one has ever checked to see if the chairs are adequate. I have literally sat on gravel that was more comfortable. They are unusable for anything but hanging cloths. The room lighting is terrible. The lamps have no shades in them and high wattage bulbs. There is no ambiance or comfort, just poor design aesthetics and functionality. Everything else was fine, but I would never stay here again or recommend it to anyone. After finding some unpleasant squirrel surprises in our AirBNB we left at 10PM with nowhere to go. Brandon (the innkeeper) was quick and responsive, and we arrived an hour later to a wonderful room. Clean, gorgeous, and excellent service. I was amazed by how detail oriented the facility is for cleanliness and comfort, with a full breakfast served by accommodating waitstaff. I would 1000% recommend this place for any of my friends or family looking for a cozy place to stay while in town. As a visitor. we had a fantastic stay at Primrose Inn. We were in the Holland room which has a second room with a daybed and small seating area. It's no more that a 10 minute walk to Main Street so the location is perfect for shopping, bars and dining options. The food here? Oh my goodness- the food is so delicious. For daily breakfast, you can choose from a sweet or a savory and I'm pretty sure you'll love either one. At 4pm each day, they put out a fresh baked snack and it's all so delicious. All. So. We booked a one bedroom at the Primrose Inn for 3 nights in August and were very happy with our stay. Anna and Tyler looked after us and made our visit so pleasant. They even arranged to have our breakfast packed to go when we needed to leave early one morning for a puffin tour. And speaking of breakfast, the food here is incredible! We really are loving our time at the Primrose. We saw it was highly rated online and looked beautiful so we decided to give it a try. Their hospitality is second to none, and they truly live up to their name as "A bar Harbor Treasure." The rooms are spacious and well decorated, and have a nineteenth century vibe so you can look extra classy in any photos you might take during your stay ;) One of our favorite features was the daily breakfast- the staff will bring you a delicious full breakfast in the common area or outside if needed. The menu is different every day and they provide spices and seasonings and edible flowers directly from their garden. This place is a gem! We recommend only bringing a small amount of food along with you during your stay however- we usually pack a little food to eat instead of going out too much during covid, and thought there might be a mini fridge or microwave in the room but there is just a small mini fridge for all the guests downstairs. However the staff was more than happy to heat up the 2 meals we brought along with us in their microwave in the staff kitchen. They threw it on a hand painted tray and made us feel extra fancy heading up to our room for an evening meal. Overall, a wonderful experience! We are watching them plant part of the epic spring garden now so enjoy if you are visiting later than mid-April. We also enjoyed the fact that the hotel is close to the town. The businesses and harbor are within walking distance, and very close to get to parts of Acadia national park. Cadillac mountain was very accessible from this hotel. read more

Bar Harbor was on our bucket list for many years. This was our year to cross this adventure off. We researched many Inns in Bar Harbor and chose The Primrose. What an excellent choice. We arrived late the 1st night and was greeted by Anna. She gave us restaurant recommendations as well as other little tips that would make our trip 100% better. She stayed well past her shift talking with us. What a kind, caring and helpful individual. The next day, we were greeted by Tyler at our delicious breakfast. We loved the 2 choices given every day. Tyler was on the ball constantly cleaning the tables, serving the food, and making sure everyone felt welcome. I can not say enough about how wonderful all of Chris's creations tasted. What an excellent chef. We looked forward to his afternoon tea dessert. I have to say that the s'more treats were unbelievable. The blueberry cheesecake treats were to die for. Andres was in charge of taking care of our room and did an excellent job. He had such a pleasant attitude and greeted us with a smile every day. Walker was there every evening taking care of us. He got us our wine glasses and helped with any other needs or requests we may have had. All in all- the motto at the Primrose is to treat their Inn as your home and we certainly felt at home! I need to mention that we appreciated the water bottle filler as well as the ice machine. Great additions that add to your vacation. The staff, particularly Jill and Tyler, but also the young, man working at night, were friendly and helpful, thinking of things that we had not, to make our stay even more pleasant. The breakfasts and afternoon treats were delectable and beautifully presented. Our room was clean, comfortable, and spacious, and the outdoor porch spaces, a welcome place to start and end our day. Things you might not consider, like the softness of linens and towels and deliciously-scented, locally-crafted soap, made for a luxurious stay! Our visit to New England was made complete by our stay at this hospitable, comfortable inn nestled in a cozy neighborhood just outside of the main tourist area of town. A 10-minute walk took us to the heart of town, where the restaurants, shops and other sights awaited. The breakfast was scrumptious, and included your choice of a savory or sweet main course, plus all of the usual amenities (coffee, fresh fruit, baked goods, hot/cold cereals etc). One item that really helped was a CD of a driving tour of Acadia National Park. At the park gate, we popped the CD into the player in the car and it guided us through the whole park, telling us what to look for, when to stop and get out, the history, and so on. It was just like having a personal tour guide with us on our trip! Thanks to our innkeepers Catherine and Jeff Shaw for making our visit memorable in so many ways! Loved our stay at the Primrose while exploring all that Bar Harbor and Acadia has to offer. Everything was impeccable and I'd 100% recommend to anyone taking a trip to the area. Such personable staff that go above and beyond in terms of hospitality/customer service. Also everyone - staff and guests alike - seemed to be mindful of the Covid precautions. The inn itself is beautiful and has a lot of cool art pieces around the common areas. The room we stayed in was spacious and was a perfect mix of quaint cute (wallpaper, cozy sitting chair, custom closets, wicker trash baskets) and modern style (fan switch, ac remote, bathroom night light, shower head and hand-held shower head, etc). Bed was comfortable and I'm a sucker for any hotel that provides robes, especially the "good kind" with the satiny exterior and the plush interior. :-) Loved the timed gas fireplace as well as our private porch, but sad we didn't get that much use of it because there too much to do on Mount Desert Island. For breakfast every morning, there was a starter baked good and then 2 plated options (a sweet or savory) and came with a fruit as well and obviously coffee/tea. [note I appreciate that they had to-go cups available, but I would have preferred my morning coffee in a mug.] All the food was delicious, really well balanced, and plated very beautifully. There was also afternoon tea time - who doesn't love coming back to cookies/mousse/magic bars after a long day? Couple of things to keep in mind: -No fridge in the room, but there is a shared fridge in case you want any beverages cold or bring back leftovers. -They have wine and champagne glasses available for use so you don't need to drink out of a plastic or paper cup. :-) -There's a water refill station, so make sure you bring a reusable bottle. -Bathroom/porch windows had the awesome pull down/push up blinds, but the windows in the sleeping room only had curtains which kind of didn't cover the entire window. Thought that was strange, but not a huge deal. -Outlets were seriously plentiful in the room/bathroom, but they seemed oddly placed to me: i.e. by the door to the porch, on the outside of the shower, in the baseboard molding, etc. Also, there weren't many right next to the bed (this is most likely a problem only if you are attached to your phone and need it right next to you when you're sleeping). -Having an assigned parking spot is great! -There's a computer/printer in case you need one. Btw seems like their sister property diagonally across the street has more of a hotel aire and less of an inn feel if that's what you're looking for. read more

We loved this bed and breakfast. I was a little concerned when we arrived and saw that our room was on the second floor right at the top of the stairs. I was concerned that it could be a little noisy, but it wasn't noisy at all. The staff was super friendly and the food was delicious. Each day you had a choice of a sweet or savory breakfast. We had a great chicken biscuit and a delicious frittata. Each breakfast also came with a fresh baked good. We enjoyed an apple crumb cake and a pineapple crumb cake. Don't worry, there will be plenty remaining when you return from a full day of exploring the park! Each day there was an afternoon tea with fresh baked cookie and a baked good. While we were there there were whoopee pies, a variety of cookies, lemon blueberry poundcake, and lemon raspberry cupcakes. Tea, coffee, and hot chocolate was available throughout the day. There's a small fridge available for guests to keep food or drinks cold. There's a water bottle filling station & a small ice maker for drinks/water bottles. The room was very comfortable and fairly spacious. The common areas provided space for guests to relax after a day in the park. The only reason I can't give it 5 starts was the fireplace in our room didn't work and they were unable to get it working. That was disappointing given we specifically requested a room with a fireplace. If given the option, I'd provide a 4.5 star rating. I highly recommend and would definitely stay here again next time in Bar Harbor. read more

It is conveniently located about a 5 minute walk from town and each room has a dedicated parking space. I will say that the home itself is rather large and operates more as a hotel than a B&B in my mind. I didn't have a problem with this its just not what I was accustomed to with smaller Inns. Breakfast each morning offered up a savory or sweet option and luckily my wife and I could mix and match every day. Due to the popularity of the area and large amount of rooms they certainly churn out guests which results in a very well kept, very updated, and smooth experience. But as I mentioned, if you want more personal attention you may want to look elsewhere. read more

This place was amazing. I second another reviewer's observation, namely that it felt more like a small hotel than a B&B. What amazed me was the extent to which the owners anticipated every need the guests might have. For example: DVDs of popular movies (including Oscar nominees for recent years), a water-bottle filler, a fridge AND a wine cooler for use by the guests, coffee and sodas for off hours (including go cups, in case you want to get up early and grab a cup of coffee on the way out), a pre-programmed GPS you can borrow, Kindles with the NYT and other papers, plus many other perks that I've been unable to include. The building is late 19th century, but everything felt brand-new inside (carpets, flooring, bathroom fixtures, etc), so it must have JUST been completely refurnished. Scrupulously clean, extremely comfortable. The location is an easy walk to the center of the Old Harbor. Free parking (important in a place like Bar Harbour). I can't think of anything I'd do to change this place. read more

The staff at Primrose are welcoming and warm, and beyond accommodating. The rooms were comfortable, cozy, and charming, The atmosphere is laid back and very relaxing. The amenities were superb - easy parking, a huge/current DVD library, centrally located fridge with free drinks and snacks, local maps/books/magazines, baked treats and tea every afternoon, and even a GPS to borrow in case you need one. We wanted to stay an extra night in our hotel in Bar Harbor but our hotel could not accomodate us. We lucked out and found The Primrose. Anna checked us in and she was the nicest and most helpful individual. Our room was fantastic, we even had a porch right out our bedroom, with a porch swing too. The bed was so comfortable and the place was impeccably clean. We found the pillows to be very comfy. The afternoon snacks were great, but the breakfast was outstanding! They served Lemon Ricotta pancakes with a raspberry compote or a Mushroom Pancetta Frittata. My wife had the frittata and I had the pancakes. They were both out of this world delicious. Served with fruit and outstanding potatoes. To top it off, the blueberry coffee was great. (they also had regular coffee). Brandon served us and was so pleasant he made the morning great. We hope to come back to Bar Harbor but, next time, spend our entire stay at The Primrose. read more

Just checked out and feel like I left a family members house where I should have tracked down the innkeeper to say thanks and goodbye. Great experience. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, and the innkeeper went out of his way to get us a couple things we forgot. (Literally from the inn next door). A great balance of modern amenities and an old Victorian home with nice art on the walls. Full service breakfast that was excellent and when we checked out, there were hot cookies the cook handed us. I stayed at the Primrose inn with my husband and mother in law on their last night of the season. She had room 11 and we had the Holland Room. I loved this B&B. I can honestly say it is the best place I have ever stayed. The price was a tad more than we have paid for other places but we all felt it was well worth it. First off all the place is CLEAN! growing up with a mother who preached (may I even say bible thumped) that cleanliness is next to godliness; this place was immaculate! The owners were very sweet and welcoming. They had very handy binders with the menus of local restaurants listed by rating according to trip advisor. Being food dorks, we had already picked out a restaurant BUT the owner was able to advise us that it had already closed (he had a list of closing dates as well). This was very helpful. The rooms were soft and comfortable. Ours had a fireplace in the corner (gas, small but nice) and a canopy bed and bubbling tub with a variety of scented oils laid out. The bath robes were awesome. It was quiet and only about 5 minutes from the main drag in Bar Harbor. Breakfast was delicious and ample and the tea at check in time was perfect for hungry travelers. My husband and I stayed at the Primrose Inn for our honeymoon in Bar Harbor. They have truly thought of every detail. The breakfasts all included a choice of either a savory or sweet entree, a baked good, a side dish, and a yummy fruit dessert (the strawberry short cake was my favorite!) along with your typical options of cereal, toast, coffee, oj etc. Complimentary trail mix snacks were available during the day, with pretzels available at night, along with water and sodas. At 4pm they put out cookies and a fresh baked good (the blueberry crumble was fantastic!) We stayed in the Leffingwell room which had a lovely fireplace and a wonderful bubbly tub with scented oil options. The bed was big and comfortable, and the porch and hammock outside were great. We loved that they provided a great selection of DVDs, and we also made use of the CD car tour of Acadia as well as one of their many hike guides. The menu guides were also very useful! They were a short walk to the downtown area and also an easy drive to Acadia. It was a wonderful stay, and we hope to return! read more

The Primrose Inn is located a very short walk from downtown Bar Harbor. This quaint, butts well-appointed establishment seems to be run efficiently by the combination of sweet little old ladies and A few staff members. Every morning you will be greeted by Melissa, who seems to be the primary manager of the establishment. She will rundown a pair of breakfast options, and deliver your selection freshly prepared. The food is much better than your average diner. This morning, for example, I had the Apple Cinnamon pancakes with a small sausage patty, and fresh maple syrup. Every morning fresh coffee and cold orange juice is available, as well as a fresh pastry. In the afternoon coffee and a couple of types of baked goods are available for tea time snack. It's always delicious, and puts you in a great mood ahead of an evening on the town. Our first night here we stayed in room number 7, which is A nondescript, basic room. It fills what you need with a bed, bath, and smallest flat screen TV. The next evening we moved into the Leffingwell room, which is a very nice upgrade. This room comes with extra space, a king size bed, a jacuzzi tub, and a back porch with a couple of rocking chairs - private to the occupant of the room. I highly recommend the Primrose in to anybody spending a few days in Bar Harbor. read more

I'm not as over-the-moon about it as some other people who left review here, but it is clean and the staff is friendly. Favorite thing: 4 PM tea time with sweets! Least favorite thing: breakfast dining room layout (there are no good seats) The chairs and tables are WAY too big for a room this small with this many people. They should have purchased pedestal tables with smaller chairs. The couple running this place make a big deal about being Christian, but they treat their help really poorly. There were two girls from Romania and Bulgaria working there, who weren't allowed to smoke cigarettes or drink, on their own time, elsewhere (they were of age), plus they had to be in bed at 9PM or they would be sent back to their home countries. Apart from that, the place is really nice and sparkling clean. Still, I couldn't stay there again in good conscience knowing they treat their workers like that. read more
