I have to say....because of the poor customer service at Bass Pro Shop my halibut fishing charter is being cancelled for tomorrow. I received a call from the charter company that I was to go halibut fishing with on Friday in Ninilchik. The captain had to go to Bass Pro Shop in Anchorage to pick up a part or his motor but was certain we would still be good to go tomorrow. After picking up the part and returning to Ninilchik to replace the part it was discovered that the service tech had given the captain the wrong part. (7 hr round trip drive) The captain reached out to the parts dept and they said they had grabbed the wrong part off the shelf and had the right part. The captain then returned to Bass pro shop as they were going to leave the part in customer service for pick up. The captain arrived at Bass Pro Shop and the part was not left in customer service. (3 1/2 hr drive one way) Now the Charter for Friday had to be cancelled as he was going to have to pick the part up on Friday. This is very poor customer service. This is a VERY costly error. 10 1/2 hr trip.......no part, gas at $5 gallon loose a charter on top of it....... read more

We shop Bass Pro and Cabela's fairly regularly. I've never really had anything bad to say and not overly good either but on this specific trip, numerous associations checked on us and asked if they could help. I would say it felt like an average Bass Pro with the addition of more winter animals on display in their main area. Prices seemed to be a bit high for the standard items. They did have good deals if you are military and can use the discount to get the 5/10% off combined with no tax to get the item below MSRP. So who doesn't like Bass Pro Shops right ?!?!? This is one of the best suited for its location. All the cold weather gear you could need and want. We were not looking for anything in particular as we were only in Anchorage for a week. Just browsing but everyone was so nice and helpful. Staff at every turn to answer questions or just wish you a good day. Even the cashier was extremely friendly. Lots of stuff on clearance and we like that. Good bargains. Our family is up here for a while so we will be back to visit. read more

Customer Service is horrible at the gun counter. 6 people behind the counter, only 2 people being helped. I seen one guy upset about how they were treating the gun he was buying and how the sales rep was responding to him the sales rep walked away from the guy and the guy told them to cancel his paperwork he filled out and left a $1500 gun sale. I was picking up 2 firearms i purchased online and it took over 15 minutes just to get help, went from 6 people to 1 until I told them I was very unhappy with the lack of attenting...this was at 2pm on a monday. Total time to leave with items I purchased onlMonday over 1 hour. So many different people checking serial number on firearm in and out of the case carelessly, not putting it back into its cutout and cramming the lid down, they ripped the foam cutout at the top. Never going back to this store. I literally went to the other Bass Pro in Anchorage to buy my red dots sights because I didnt want to wait for help from these people and I seen the other guy who walked out of the $1500 gun sale there buying the gun from them instead. We spoke with Kurt in the boat center at the Mountain View location in Anchorage, Alaska, and had questions about upgrading to a larger Mercury engine for our 2019 Spartan 18' Areus that we purchased from Bass Pro in 2019. He was difficult to follow as he mumbled and we could not understand what he was trying to convey. Also, we had a specific question about our current motor and it's jet lower unit and whether it could transfer to the new (proposed) engine. Kurt stated 'it should work', after 20 minutes of questioning. Our research, after we returned home, confirmed the lower unit we currently own is only compatible for 90-115hp, which did not match what we were told. Had we put this lower unit on the new motor, it could have left us stranded with inoperative equipment, on the side of the river, not to mention the cost of repairs. It would have been great if he would have said he didn't know, and he could have researched it further before answering. We were there at the desk over 30 minutes and came away with more questions than answers. Employees shouldn't be afraid to say they 'don't know' something, but can look into it and get back to the customer. read more

This store is completely lame and this is not the first time this has happened at the location. We registered for the story time with Santa online and got email and text reminders today for our 5pm time. However because of work and traffic we pulled up at 5:03pm got to Santa by 5:05. There was not a hint of there being a story time. Not one kid not a book nothing. This is because this location does not follow the adds that come out or the internet information. I came in to buy a firearm, and had a pretty good experience. The checkout process is pretty quick with the laptop's they use for background checks. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, but they did get distracted a lot and there could have been more. When I did have the full engagement of customer service it was a good experience. Aside from that purchase I stop here frequently for ammunition. It's a reliable place to get shotgun shells and clays. They don't always have the most ammunition, but it seems like they have at least a little of everything. I don't notice the appearance of a staff shortage as much when I'm just picking up supplies. It's good for what it is, I'll definitely be back. read more

The saga for a rain jacket continues!! I was given a couple Bass Pro gift cards. After visiting Cabela's yesterday and Bass Pro today, I just get this sneaking suspicion that Cabela's is kind of becoming the outlet version of Bass Pro. Inventory is kind of better...AND... they have an entire section dedicated just to rain wear. The staff, while mostly absent, was helpful when you could find them. Ultimately, I could have bought a couple rain jackets, but the sizes and colors were limited. The larger the size, the more colors available. What's up with all the ladies getting the cool colors?!? I was looking for three dynamic factors. 1. A hood with good conforming quality and straps that held. 2. Armpit zips for venting. 3. Waterproof Optional (not black or gray) Of all the jackets there, only one met these criteria. And it was gray. Sad face. It was a North Face Jacket. There WAS a much greater inventory of waterproof winter jackets. So maybe they are simplifying inventory for Fall/Winter. read more

Some parts of the store are OK. Others are completely terrible. The footwear department is particularly lousy. There were 2 people working the section. One was helping another customer and I was waiting patiently for the second to come back. When he did come back he went over to talk and tag team the other customer. After a few minutes of that the first employee just walked off and left me standing there. After waiting several more minutes with the first employee not returning I asked if he was the only one working the section even though I already knew the answer. I was trying to get the other employee back and be polite as possible at the same time. I didn't know if the other was busy or not. He turned to me and said I don't know where she went. He had been on his radio on and off the whole time and could have easily found out. Then he shrugged his shoulders and said "I guess I could help you" like I was asking him to do some huge task that would require a ton of effort. I was already not impressed with the customer service but at that point but by now I was pretty annoyed. I finally got what I wanted and left. Was to poor service over yet? No! As I approached the check out counter the only lane open was the service desk. There was one person at one of the registers and three employees behind the counter. I figured only one register was open. After a bit of the employees chatting amongst themselves was one of them finally able to decide to have time to do their job and come to a register. I've never been overly impressed with the store in Anchorage Alaska but today was the absolute worst. read more

My first reaction when I walked into Bass Pro was "What the HELL? This place looks exactly like Cabela's. BIZARRE." Go there and you'll see what I mean. As for the merchandise, it's quite different. Prices are also different, so it will behoove you to shop around before making purchases. Bass Pro definitely has better sales than Cabela's. Bass Pro shop has a much better selection of clothing and their prices are more reasonable. Bass Pro's fishing items are also much more catered toward fishing here IN Alaska. Their focus is clearly, well FISHING. duh. They also have a very respectible gun section. They have way more ammo in stock than even Cabela's which is saying something these days. I was very disappointed in their camping gear section. Not much to offer in that department. Also their culinary, outdoor cookware, and food preservation (canning, smoking and butchering) is DWARFED by Cabela's selection. I wouldn't even bother going to Bass Pro if that's what you're looking for. Something unique to Bass Pro is their gift section. I didn't have a ton of time to peruse, but I observed they've committed a lot of real estate in the store to gift-type items. I was also impressed with organization and selection in their shoe department. It's definitely superior to Cabela's. They even had one type of ladies' wading boots IN STOCK, where as Cabela's has none. They also stocked ladies' waders, which Cabela's also DOESN'T stock in store either, which I find shocking in Alaska. But overall, Bass Pro's selection of in store waders is very limited, both in style selection and sizes. In conclusion, want fishing stuff, go to Bass Pro. Want a gun or outdoor clothing or rugged footwear, check out Bass Pro, but shop around before deciding. Everything else, shop somewhere else. In summary, I like Bass Pro, but I'm not sold. read more

This place is amazing and great customer service. I think the prices are fair compare to cabelas and other sporting goods stores in the area, I got a great deal on ice fishing gears and last winter I purchased an auger, ice chalet, and fishing poles. They have a wide selections of outdoor stuff and items that are featured online are usually in stock. They offer 10% Military discount, but not on sale/clearance items. This summer the plan is to purchase a shotgun for clay shooting and I have been doing my research. Bass pro definite offer better prices than cabelas. But if you're looking for a basic shotgun like a remington 870 or mossberg 500 then Fred Meyer will do. However for something nicer like a Browning or Bennelli then Bass Pro is the place. read more

First time at this location and I was pleasantly impressed! They really went all out when they were decorating this place and the attention to detail is superb. When you walk in you are greater by a nice little seating area with a crackling warm toasty fire. This place looks alot cooler than most Bass Pro shops I've visited and you can find alot of what you need. The store is nice and organized and it's easy to lose your loved one here. I did! And it took me forever to find him but atleast I got to see the neat taxidermy throughout the store....oh and the candy and bbq sauces. read more

I went into Probass Pro Shop 25 Jan 2021 located 3046 Mountain View Dr, Anchorage, AK 99501 at 10 am when they opened the doors. The line was already long, and most went to buy ammo as myself. It wasn't explained to me the night before by their employee that I would have to wait in line to buy ammo and put my name, phone number and email in their app requesting to buy certain ammo and quantity when he said "come back at 10am tomorrow morning because they will have a shipment in and it would be on the shelf." Shortly after everyone lined up for ammo an employee came around wanting everyone to put an app on their phone or allow the employee to put you in his phone to track those that wanted ammo so they could notify you when you could come get your ammo. When talking to this employee to make sure I understood what exactly they were doing with putting people in the phone tracking their ammo purchases he kept shrugging his shoulders indicating he didn't know the answer's to my questions so he finally said; "I'm done talking to you." then walked away. So if you don't mind being tracked with the type and quantity of ammo you buy then download their app before you go or don't question them as to why they are putting you in their phone to be tracked. I'm not even sure if the phone he was using was his personal phone or a company phone. My family won't be using Probass Pro Shop's or Cabella's any longer because they are tied in together. read more

Huge selection of everything you need for hunting, fishing, or other outdoor sports. We picked up a few fishing items on the way up to Talkeetna. We also stopped by here on the way back down to Anchorage to snag our wax coolers for shipping fish home. There prices are par with the cabelas and bass pros in Washington. Don't know if I'll ever get used to seeing Cabela's brand merch in a BPS though. Would recommend to anyone needing to stop in and get fishing gear. read more

We were in Alaska on vacation and found the prices at this store to be comparable to the ones in the Bass Pro Shop near our home in California. They also match prices that you find online on their website. We ended up purchasing here a fishing pole case that was not available in the store close to our home in California, so this store was better stocked up. Can I give a negative star? Went to the store to purchase hiking boots. Worst experience ever! The man working was so distracted with two women (I wish this was an exaggeration but it was so obvious he was trying to find a date rather than sell boots) that he completely ignored everyone else waiting for assistance. Even an acknowledgment of "hi, I'll be right with you" would have been a start. I continued to wait but 2 other customers had enough and left. After 40 minutes ...yes 40 minutes I finally walked up to him and asked if he could grab a size 12...he said yes "reluctantly" and then came back 10 minutes later with a size 10. What?? Finally we had enough and walked out. I couldn't believe it. He was an idiot and I'm still furious. Oh and no manager to be found. Worst place ever...the worst! read more

I had a bad experience here at bass pro mountain view. It was nice Sunday afternoon, I'm trying to buy a pistol (Beretta 9mm semi-auto) spoke to this sales person maybe 30 35's kind a talkative. Pulled out my ID's 1 original 1 are extra copy and 1 Alaska ID and my wife's driver's license. This dude can't mind his on business and asked me why so many ID's? Told him twice and of course I just ignored it. While I'm waiting for approval I went to tent or camping area to look around. 5 mins later I had a call from my cell from the gun associate telling me I'm aproved that's great! I Went to my wife just to get a credit card when I came back everything changed, their sup want to talk to my wife then another guy supervisor came. I sat down to the side I thought just checking something. This guy supervisor came up to me trying to explain things saying I can't get the gun cause their is a red flag!! This 'bafoon' trying to explain to me and his kind a mumbling. I was approved by FBI's background check and then telling me they so a red flag!! that is why they can't sell me this gun. What the fu## this guys are dumb fu#k! I called my friends dad (active FBI) explain things to him and said they can't do that once you're aproved they have to sell you that pistol.. they still want me to call the next day if I want to buy it. This lady and guy supervisor is something else. Well shove that pistol in your ass 'holes.. Who pissed in Jennifer's Cheerios? Never in all my 42 years have I had such a bad experience! We went to purchase a rifle and had a staff member by the name of Jenifer give us an awful experience. It was so awful I am still shaking as I write this review. She started by making snarky comments about my spouse's driver license picture about how she looks like Princess Fiona! Not funny at all! The hole time she was racially profiling and staring at me like there were horns growing out of my head. The whole process was long and drawn out but the other gentleman was very helpful and had a great sense of humor. After about an hour of pain and suffering she, was basically praying that i failed my background check and was baffled beyond belief when I came back cleaner than a baby after a bubble bath. There are three major hunting/fishing megastores in town. One is more "local", and the other two (Bass Pro included) are outsiders who have brought choice to our market. I've visited both of the big chains recently, and I like this one better. It would seem that all tackle shops in Alaska would carry Eagle Claw, 4X Strong, 1/0 treble hooks, don't you think? Bass Pro had what I was unable to find at the competition. It just seems that they cater more to Alaskan needs, even under the watchful eye of "corporate". I also stumbled upon the exact fishing rods I searched for unsuccessfully at another store just a few weeks ago. At $130 apiece, I was looking for a way to cushion the blow a little since I was getting two. Well, I noticed a flier that offered 10% off today's purchase if I applied for the Bass Pro credit card. Then, I showed the little American Flag with the "V" on it on my driver's license that proves my military veteran status. Ding! More bucks off! What would have been a $260 total was winnowed down to a mere $210 after discounts. Many stores offer an active duty discount, but I respect those more who offer that for all military: Active, Retired, and Veteran. Great customer service! read more

Compared to Cabela's (well, they are one and the same now) the women's selections here at Bass Pro are better for the most part. I spent over a hundred bucks within an hour having been impressed with the sweaters, (cute camo!) pants, and earrings. Very pleasant atmosphere to shop. I know I'm talkin' girlie stuff here, inside what is generally known as a guy store. But I found it to be a beautiful store for ladies as well. They even have pink gun muffs! Strange location in Mountain View. I get the impression they have issues with frequent shoplifters which is unfortunate. I will be a repeat customer however, and I do appreciate Bass Pro being here for the selection, and the aesthetically pleasing atmosphere. read more

Not a place I would do business. My elderly father purchased a side by side through them. It had a manufacturers defect. They were difficult to maintain contact with, very difficult to engage with face to face and ultimately have had his machine for the last four months. They do not return his calls and he is forced to follow up by driving to their store to check on the machine. This is not the customer service one would expect from such a large retail company. I've been to this store more times than I can remember and I've had mixed experiences. There is nothing bad about this store (in fact it's a great store), but I do have a few complaints. My first is that the employees are simply not well-informed on outdoors subjects. They can't answer questions about their products efficiently. And the people who do the hunting/fishing licenses and other Fish and Game paperwork are idiots. They have absolutely no clue what they're talking out. I've worked as a fur buyer for 5 years and a commercial fisherman for 4. I may not have a ton of experience, but I know the laws and I know the basic info needed to get around Alaska outdoor experiences legally. The employees here have absolutely no idea and cannot answer a single question. It frustrates the heck out of me every time I overhear one of their customer's ask them something and they have no idea how to answer. I almost always end up answering for them. They NEED to educate their employees on the laws if they are selling the legal paperwork that ties into that. They also need to educate their employees on the products they're selling and make sure that they can answer basic questions- such as 'How do I download maps to this GPS?' or 'How do I know what size bow to buy?' Now that I got that rant out of the way- let's focus on the positives. Although the employees are ill-informed (which is really at fault of the management- not them), they are very kind and always happy. I've never had an unfriendly employee here. The place is kept in great condition- although they do tend to run out of clothing and shoes in popular sizes (they really need to pay attention to their inventory and order more of common sized items). Aside from that, they're usually really well stocked. They have a great selection when it comes to things like fishing supplies, hunting supplies, and game meat prep supplies. Everything is organized very well and it's easy to find your way around. The décor of this place is a lot of fun. They have a ton of taxidermy all over and a very rustic vibe. I see a lot of parents bring their kids in here, because shopping in here is such an experience on its own. Your dog is welcome to join in the fun too! They do allow canines in their store. As a dog lover- I love this aspect of the business. The place is always kept really clean and never gets crowded. They're always well-staffed so you rarely have to wait in a line to check out. They do a good job of keeping their store organized and making sure all products are where they need to be. It's generally a pretty good place to go, and that's why I go here so often. I just wish the management was a bit better. The employees need to be a little more educated on the Fish and Game laws and general information on their products. They also need to keep in-stock more common-size clothing and shoes (like 32/32 in men's pants and size 7 in women's shoes). Other than those two complaints- great store, honestly. Ammo is usually more than Cabelas too, and the gun department is less than helpful. I think the guys working the counter have never hunted in Alaska, heard them pushing a .308 on a kid that was going into bear country, even after he told them he was looking for something a little more substantial they pushed him on the .308 until he got p.o.'d and walked off. read more
