I stopped by this Bass Pro Shops location simply to ask a question about a scope. I was directed to use their automated text-based "wait in line" system for the firearms counter. I checked in at 3:39 PM and was told I was #2 in line. After waiting over an hour, with no progress and no employees calling customers, I eventually gave up and left the store. The most frustrating part? The store was practically empty of customers the entire time. At 6:06 PM nearly THREE HOURS after I checked in, I finally received a text saying they were ready for me and to come back to the counter. That's not just inefficient , it's completely unacceptable. If you're going to use an automated queue system, it should reflect reality. This system clearly wasn't being monitored or respected by staff, and it wasted a huge amount of my time for what should have been a simple question. I won't be using the firearms counter here again, and I wouldn't recommend relying on their "wait list" unless you're prepared to lose hours of your day. read more

Honestly, I don't want to be asked if I would like to apply for a credit card every single time I walk in. Also, I would also like to not be solicited for services that I did not come there for. Just leave me alone and let me shop. If I want help, I'll ask for it. If I want a credit card, I'll contact a credit card company. If I want hotel or resort stays, I'll contact a hotel or resort. Yeah, like I am the camping type, right? Hardly. Even though I am not the outdoorsy type, I love going to Cabelas. There is a little something for everyone here. I love to craft and occasionally I need fishing line for sone of my hair brained projects. Recently, I needed some specialized fishing line so I headed straight to Cabelas. This store can be overwhelming at first. There is just so much stuff! Easily found the fishing department but had no clue where to start looking. The young man who helped me was very patient and helpful. He explained how the different strengths were measured and which would be best for my project. He also gave m suggestions for other items that might enhance my project. I did not expect so much help and guidance. I am used to clerks mindlessly pointing you in a direction for your item. There is usually no smile, very little eye contact and no enthusiasm for the customer, that is not the case for Cabalas. The staff was overly accommodating and helpful. They went out of their way to make sure I was a happy customer. Besides the great customer service, I love looking at all the displays here. There is so much to see in this store. There are displays and interesting information displayed. Also, there is a wall sized fish tank and it is mesmerizing. Prices are reasonable and n line with the products. There is plenty of parking spaces. Overall, a good experience. There are also a wide variety of products. This store has everything from clothing to firearms, fishing lures to earrings. The folks at this Cabela's are absolutely wonderful! They found and held an item I needed for my husband's birthday for me until the next day. Then when I came to pick it up everyone was very welcoming and friendly to my dog and I. As well as respectful of space when she was nervous, until she warmed up! They found where the item was being held for me rather than having me check with different departments and brought it to check out for me! I would absolutely drive 2 hours just to shop here again because the customer service and just plain human kindness was phenomenal! Thank you all and keep it up! read more

I go to Cabela's often enough, for bullets as they are by far more stocked than Bass Pro Shop. I love Cabela's. (and I've not reviewed it yet? hmmm) Pro's: 1. Fish Aquarium. Come here before dishing out an admittance to the aquarium in KC. 2. Indoor shooting range. 3. Gun section...Rugers, Sigs, Walther's Oh my! 4. Mule Deer Museum. I don't hunt, but I love the Mule Deer Museum. 5. Store events 6. Bullet prices and stock Con's: 1. I love their clothes. I wear a size 10/12 pants. Their blasted tactical pants never fit. I always buy clothes when I go there, but I truly feel their tactical pants are made for 16 year olds. 2. Don't even try to buy a gun here if you live in MO. What a hassle. 3. Their C and C handbags cost more by far than Centerfire's. 4. The onsite restaurant is lame. 6. Too far from my house, but I go there anyway. Parking is always good, but if there's a soccer game, be prepared to be grilled by the parking attendant. Watch their website for store events. This place is unbelievable! One of the other reviewers called it "paradise for hunters, hikers, and fishers". I would echo that and even add lots of others. This store is huge and has various gadgets, gizmos and displays that could keep a curious person interested all day. Definitely anything and everything for hunting, fishing and hiking, but I would expand to say almost anything outside from clothes to cooking, boating, camping, etc. You just need warm clothes, or want to know more about animals, or want to eat good food at their restaurant inside the store, or want to buy a present, or want fudge, or want to do archery, or etc etc etc. I guess most of those generally fall under hunting, hiking and fishing, but the store is so big I feel like it needs more description than just that. If you are in the area, I definitely recommend you check it out. read more

I've shopped with Cabela's for almost as many years as they've had retail stores. Since Ass Pro bought them, their customer service has gone so downhill, it's almost comical. I ordered a Kimber 1911 9mm over a month ago during a sale and I was supposed to get it 7-7-20, but after driving up there, I was told it might be a few more weeks. Today, I call up and it turns into a 35 minute phone odyssey and after jumping through many hoops, I was told by their Vapid Response Team that they had cancelled my order. No reason given, no apology, no email telling me that they had done so. The thing that made me mad was that I trusted them in the first place because I'd passed on a Colt series 70 9mm, but I figured I had this one in the pipeline. In the end, no manager call, no resolution or explanation. I will find a new sporting goods store, probably Scheels, as I can get my running gear, bicycles , plus my hunting, fishing, and archery stuff all under one roof. One more trip will be made to Cabela's and that will be to burn off a couple thousand dollars in loyalty dollars that I have and then I'll be done with these clowns. Call me a pissed off Husker in Olathe. read more

A drive to BFE Wyandotte County is worth your effort if you're looking for sporting goods, guns, clothing, shoes, etc. In Cabela's you can pretty much find damn near anything you'd need to go target shooting, skiing, or even for a picnic. They have a huge firearms and ammunition section here. The only downfall to my recent adventure to Cabela's was the number of disgusting people gawking over guns and ammo. I literally got bumped a couple of different times by two different pot-bellied men who were both wearing some sort of overalls. The crowd in this section of the store is comparable to members of the Tea Party at a NASCAR event. At least we found what we needed! I like this store, but I think it would be wise to go here on a weekday during non-peak hours if you wish to shop in peace. I was here on a Saturday afternoon and the whole store was completely overflowing with shoppers. It made it hard to even stand long enough in an aisle to look at items. read more

This place is insane. You think Tri-City was the pinnacle of sporting goods stores? NOT! 180,000 square feet of just about any damn thing you would need that could possibly be considered a *sporting good* You want some deer urine? They have that here! *I know deer urine is actually not that exotic an item for those of us who are familiar with the slaughter of deer and other wild animals every year but the city slickers might be impressed* Even if you aren't looking for a camoflage poncho to wear when the weather gets moist this is still a tourist spot with lots of things to see. They have dead stuffed animals everywhere. It made me really sad to see the dead stuffed monkeys. I love monkeys. I didn't really shed any tears for the badgers or wild boars though. They also have an aquarium with lots of river fish. They have humongoid catfish! Some of these bad boys are well over 100 pounds. I'd love to make some fish in chips out of those mofos. The line of people checking in their guns at the front door is pretty sweet to see. If you flick a lit cigarette at them one of them is sure to pick it up and start smoking. This is the REI of Kansas City! Every department is huge, has a nice selection of merchandise and at a decent price. Myself, I like to hike and camp and this is the one of only two store in KC that has a department worthy of the name. Product wise, this is twice the size of Bass Pro. I'm amazed at the selection of tents, hiking poles, sleeping bags, backpacks, knives, lights, dehydrated food, This is also a great place to loose a half day. The large fishing, hunting, camping and clothing departments are great but its the extra off to the side.... I'm talking about the large collection of animals museum and huge aquariums. It's really a great place to hang out when waiting for someone to finish shopping. If you are looking for a new boat... then this is not the place. Check out Bass Pro who has a crazy selection of boats/trailers. The only thing I wish Cabala had is a nice sitting area (like Bass Pro has) to hang out while waiting for everyone to finish shopping. After the last 3 times of attempting to shop at this location I realized that this store is no longer an outdoor store. The selection in this store now consists of kids toys, grandma trinkets, and cheap bass pro logo gear... again, not an outdoor store. And the customer service I a complete disgrace. Rude and unwilling to help, but I can't blame their bad attitudes all on their sucky personalities, if I had to sell LIVE LAUGH FISH prints and act like I'm not ripping people off everyday, I would be a sad rude person too. This is paradise for hunters, hikers, and fishers. Every conceivable thing that you may want (and more) is here. They have the best selection of ammo, which is consistently well stocked. You could easily get lost in all of the stuff here, which is ok. If you get hungry, then even serve food, and have a fudge shop. The indoor shooting range is pretty neat. They have a mule deer museum and an aquarium. The customer service here is excellent. The staff goes above and beyond to help you. I recently went on a hiking trip in Peru and went to Cabela's beforehand to get supplies. One of the associates in the hiking section, Hap, was very useful. He knew the differences in all of the sleeping bags, was able to make recommendations on those and all of the other supplies that we had yet to even consider. People like him have made every trip here exceptional. This is my first stop (and usually the last) for any of my outdoor needs. read more

Cabela's is a great place to window shop, look at cool displays and hang out. As far as shopping here? Nah, go online and pay half the price. Maybe I'm just not a sports guy, or an outdoor guy. But noting about this place makes me enjoy the process of shopping here. Costs? Cheaper almost anywhere else. Customer service? It depends on your definition. I hate going to the DMV, taking a number and waiting in line. This place is much of the same. I understand people get busy, but I've seen gun counter guys talking behind the counter doing nothing and when I asked them a question I was accosted that I hadn't picked out a number first. I'm not much for hunting, fishing, or really any of that. Camping is really the only thing I enjoy about outdoor activities. However, this place has some really cool stuff. There is a huge clothing section, which sounds wierd to get excited about at a hunting store, but there is a ton of North Face and Columbia gear. There are also great hiking shoes and active outdoor sandals. Plus all of the camping gear gets me extremely excited to get out there and try and "rough it". Plus another great thing is there is a restaurant upstairs!!! This place has B.A. food choices. You can get deer, elk, hell seriously you just have tons of choices. And the best part is it is all good. As someone who doesn't care that much about the outdoors I still find this place facinating. read more

I find this store to be very interesting. I like to look at all there stuff even if most of it isn't for me. They do have a nice section for sausage making and I do that. I usually come here to buy gifts for family members who are into hunting and fishing. This was one of the first major retailers to come to KCK and I try to give them as much support as I can because they took a chance on my Dotte. I don't know how great the prices are but I'll tell you this, the places is always busy. The staff are very helpful and professional. When I was here at Christmas, not only did the man take me to where the item I wanted was, he insisted on escorting me to another item I wanted and then pointed out to me that the pic I had on my iPhone was from a competitor. Never again, and follow closely, as I tell you why. I receive Cabela's sales ads, and made a special trip with the most recent. I found said sale items -$40 higher than sale ad. When I asked a member of management, he made every excuse he could come up with to dishonor the ad. Said the ads were a pain in the ass, usually because they never have the items listed. They have so much stuff here, not just camping and hunting gear. My husband had a hitch extender we wanted to return. It was over a year old and even though we had the receipt we were worried about they taking it. No trouble, just take store credit! Perfect. So we looked around and my husband bought 4 new pairs of really good quality shorts, and a nice semi-dressy pair of khaki pants. They also had some super cute kids stuff. In addition to shopping they have huge floor to ceiling fishtanks of missouri fish, catfish, turtles etc. They also have a ton of stuffed animals set up like a natural history museum. A big waterfall in the center with more stuffed animals on it. A huge cafeteria and old -timey electronic rifle range upstairs (complete with the barrel that will pop up and spin if you hit it). read more

I've always shop here because I don't fish ,so they carry more for hunting stuff .Now I'm in there buying my first gun from them ,and everyone's working with customers except 3 employees that just didn't want to help customers ,but rather gab with them .Even other customers were complaining around me .Now when it was announced the store was closing and people weren't leaving they decide to help the customers SMH.I can always purchase guns on line without being taxed, then shipping and ffl fee most of time are cheaper .Last gun purchase there lesson learned .
