Great company to go with for kayaking. They got us set up real fast and in the water in no time. We got signed and we're given instructions on how to guide through the river for our all day kayaking. Handed us a waterproof box for our electronic because we know we couldn't live without it. At the end of the day they picked us back up and it was over. read more

Did the El Camino Real trip here. The staff was wonderful and gave us a detailed expectation of the route. I don't kayak much but the instructions were simple and easy to follow. They went out of their way to accommodate me. The owner is also a great guy and really took great care of us. We had a blast and will be going back soon with more friends!!! read more

I realize everyone has a bad day and don't want to arbitrarily leave a bad review, but this must be said. Especially after reading another review from a couple of weeks ago where one family was turned away and another (who enjoyed their float BTW) were treated very rudely by the employees. What a HUGE disappointment Bastrop River Company is. On 8/14, After convincing my son and his friend---Both Home on leave before deployment---to NOT got to the Comal....float here in Bastrop!!! They were turned away. I Called for river conditions at 1:30 and was told it was slow and a 3 hour float. Boys arrived at 2:34 and were told "Nope...sorry, last shuttle left at 2:30, no float man". No mention on phone when I called and I also checked web on my phone.... The guy said something to my son about liability after dark? Strange as they offer moonlight and overnight excursions. Their FB has no mention of hours at all nor could I find anything on their website. Bottom line...I should have been told when I called that they take NO One after 2:30 every day to float. (It gets dark this time of year at 8:30) Seems they want to be sure to be able to go home at 5:30! Wonder why the FB page states "Always Open"? I live here and always "Shop Local". BRC has exhibited poor customer service and an awful representation of what Bastrop offers...hopefully we haven't lost more tourists and visitors due to a disorganized business and rude employees. The family which was turned away a few weeks ago flatly stated they would not be returning to Bastrop......what a shame. BRC just celebrated 1 year in business...in order to make it to 2 years and beyond, they have a little work to do. Was going on their SUP event/pub crawl as it sounded fun....not now! read more

We were interested in taking our first overnight kayak trip and had zero experience. We called and were reassured that we could successfully navigate the river and island as first timers so we decided on the 14mi kayak trip and camped overnight. Morgan and Dennis were very helpful in getting us to the river so that we only had to paddle downstream both days and into our kayak. When we arrived back to shore today, Lee was quick to meet us and transport our stuff back to the car. We will definitely be back for another trip! read more

Our group of 2 adults and 5 kids came down from Austin. This section of Colorado River is great. We paddleboarded, but saw that they also had really nice kayaks and tubes to rent. Jeff was very friendly and made sure our group had a fantastic time. We will definitely be returning here when we want to get back out on the water in Bastrop! read more

This place is wonderful!! Now that we know about Bastrop River Company, there's no need for the craziness of the Guadalupe in my opinion! My husband & I tubed on July 4th & it was super relaxing. The staff was very friendly & there's lots of restaurant options within walking distance. read more

Look, I rarely write reviews, but this was unacceptable. My mother and I had high hopes for our excursion, as she has used this company in the past. However, when my kayak got stuck under a tree and I had to call the owner, Lee Harle, for help getting it unstuck after an hour of trying myself, everything went awry. He cussed at us, patronized us, got angry in a way that made us feel unsafe, and was extremely rude to my mother. Luckily we wouldn't let it ruin our day, but we knew that if we were two men then he never would have spoken to us like that. We were unharmed, we salvaged the kayak and the paddle, and apologized profusely for making him come out to help (even though that is his job). It made no difference. He claims (and will likely claim again) that the route was "too difficult" for us, even though the majority of it was an extremely chill float with a small cross-current that grabbed the kayak and could have happened to anyone. Before we went out he suggested that we take the shorter route, but only because the water was shallow. That was not the issue. Regardless of anything else that occurred, cussing out your customers is not a cute look. When we returned the kayaks to the empty headquarters and left (with a dead and water-logged phone, so we couldn't call) he called 911 to send a search and rescue team rather than texting us himself. He was understandably concerned about the kayaks and was less understandably unconcerned with our safety. For $120, we did not deserve this. For $0, we wouldn't have deserved this. We will never use this company again and I will never recommend it. read more

Not going back, at least, not for tubing. There was almost no current, the wind was pushing our tubes the opposite direction, meaning the entire "2.5 hour float" was more of a four-hour wrestling match against the river itself. In addition, half the route was *choked* with overgrown water plants and with fallen trees sticking up out of the water (and underneath where you can't see, for example, the branches that knocked me out of my tube and snarled me so badly I almost couldn't get back out of the water for, you know...air). All in all, I'd say this float was a pain in the butt at the least, and downright dangerous in places. I get that the proprietors of the business can't really control things like fallen trees and so forth - but knowledge of the terrain is kind of a must in any nature situation, and the guys at BRC surely didn't warn us of snags and other places where we might be bogged down. And when I asked them about the river conditions on our return - and why they didn't even MENTION any of it to us - they acted like they had no idea about any of it. Which means that (a) they do know and just don't say anything because they want your money more than they care about your safety, OR (b) they genuinely do not keep up with the conditions of the river on which they sell these rides, which is completely irresponsible and dangerous. read more

From start to finish, Lee and Emmitt from the Bastrop River Company were awesome! They were very flexible with our 10+ group due to the fact that we were an hour late to our reservation. They made modifications to our rentals when we had more people and coolers than expected. The tubes were sturdy and clean, and we basically had the river to ourselves. We will definitely be making another weekend trip out of this float! read more

The river was full of algae, had to constantly paddle down the river on the tube. There were no current at all to bring us down to the destination. The wind was pushing the opposite direction and we have to swim against the current and wind current. Will recommend you to go to other river tubing not this one. read more

Visited my buddy and wanted to get on the river, so we called. Lee was super easy to work with and moved us up when we called again. He's a true local and knows everything interesting around town. We got right into the river and headed off without a hitch. It was a windy day so he told us to expect some resistance and that was what we found. Without strong rapids, a windy day is the best chance for a real workout in this calm and pleasant river. We made the 6 miles pretty quick and tried out some detours. If you want to spend a few hours slow-boating, this is definitely the river for you. However, you can burn a lot of calorie speeding down this river for a workout, too. I'd imagine it's pretty easy to have a picnic on the banks if desired. The end was easy to find, called Lee when we saw the railroad bridge and he was waiting for us like he said. Quick ride back to town. Overall I highly recommend this company- get some lunch downtown Bastrop and then hop on a boat for a great leisure day. read more

This place is complete crap. One if the employees named Russell was super stoned when picking up me and my friends. I'm ok with a little pot here and there, BUT NOT WHEN DRIVING PEOPLE. The guy must've been high all day because he was slow and disorganized. Another thing I didn't like was the owner and how he spoke to his employees. He was rude and had no respect. The paddleboarding was OK, but slow and very boring. I'd say to just take your money somewhere else because these guys stink. read more

We had a great day with the family in tandem kayaks that we rented from the Bastrop River Co. The owners were very friendly and so very helpful. We made our reservations online, showed up, got our kayaks and away we went down the river. Everything went smooth as butter. At a certain landmark we called them to let them know we were getting close to our exit point. We landed where they instructed us to land and they pulled up right away to pick us up. I highly recommend this company. This company deserves your support. Give them a try. read more

Awesome place! The staff were super nice and helpful, the paddle boards were higher quality if you rented from a place on town lake, the river was super beautiful, we went on the six mile trek a d it took us about four hours and it was so leisurely :) definitely a repeat!! read more

Good experience. Friendly, helpful staff who made sure we enjoyed the trip. I noticed one person who wrote a review made the comment - "we had to paddle the whole way". Oh poor baby - so sorry- Yes the particular part of the Colorado we canoed on was pretty quite and a fairly slow current so if your not up for a little work maybe you should go to Schlitterbahn. Fantastic kayak and SUP company! Great route on the Colorado River and a wonderful, helpful staff! You can rent for the 2-3 hour tour (6 miles or so) but do not have to rush, they will let you stay out all day! read more

The staff were very friendly. I'm giving this a two star because the river was awful. It was very swampy and dirty. We only saw about 10 people during our three hour float. I much prefer the atmosphere in New Braunfels. There were no places to eat along the way. Overall, I did not enjoy tubing. Make a drive to the Gruene area. It's a much better experience. read more

My wife took me kayaking for Father's Day. I was a bit leery because of what the Colorado River looks like in Austin. But it was awesome. I felt like I was in the Florida Everglades or the Louisiana bayou. We saw about five others on the river during the three hours it took us to meander the six miles from their location to the pickup point making for a very peaceful afternoon. There were plenty of cranes flying around and it was very beautiful. Even though it was in the mid-90s and we kayaked at the hottest time of the day, it was actually very pleasant. But bring lots of sunscreen. The staff was very polite and helpful and the equipment was in perfect shape. We really enjoyed it and look forward to doing it again when our daughter comes to town in July. I highly recommend it if you enjoy the outdoors and new adventures. Even young kids can do this or ride along on mom or dad's kayak. read more
