The close Aurora Transportation Lot is $10 to park at but there are City of Aurora Lots that are free! We parked in Lot X and with a short walk over the bridge, we were at the market. They had security around these lots as well knowing this time of year on the weekends is prime market time. The market itself is more spaced out than the city so one can actually look at the vendor houses with ease. They have the same larger tents for food and drink, ornaments, candy, etc. They play holiday music over the speakers and have a couple of photo moments when visiting. The market is free to get into and wasn't very crowded at all when I visited. The city location definitely has a more festive atmosphere but if you're looking to get the experience with ease of parking and crowds, definitely come out to Aurora!

It has everything the downtown location has and more. Parking is $10 across the street but can get busy so I recommend coming early. I mainly go to the market for the food. This year I got the ever famous raclette sandwich and it was worth the hype. It was a steep $20 but well worth it. You can watch how they make the sandwich in front of you. The cheese is gooey and warm, going perfectly with the soft bread and cured meat. I got everything on the sandwich including dijon mustard and pickles, which helped balance out the richness with acidity. Other notable items we got were the stroopwaffel, German bratwurst, jalapeño cheese stuffed pretzel, and hot chocolate. Everything we got tasted amazing. I love the variety of German foods that you can't find easily otherwise. There is also a lot of other vendors selling clothing, ornaments, food items, etc. There was even a glass blowing ornament tent which was super unique and only $50. Highly recommending checking out this market earlier in the season before it gets too cold!

Esther's Place is a magical wonderland. That's all you need to know. :)…read more It is here, that I found myself at a table with a group of people from Sweden, eating homemade baked goods and poking needles into brightly dyed wool. We made felted acorns with those needles and wool. An hour prior to my visit, I never imagined that I would be doing that, but there I was, enjoying the company, poking, and learning a Swedish word or two. So glad I had the fortune to end up here. After a couple weeks of living in our RV near Elgin, we 'moved' to a campsite in Big Rock, a mile or so from Esther's place. Big Rock isn't a big (or very exciting) town, so I did a quick online search to see what kind of shops were nearby and this place popped up. Interested in doing a little bit of exploring, I stopped by here expecting to just look at yarn for five minutes. But no, I had a light lunch with a group of people visiting from Sweden, played with needles, and learned so much about the story behind Esther's Place. Well, that's a much better adventure anyway, right? In the two weeks that I stayed at the campsite nearby, I dropped by Esther's several times for whimsical inspiration, drooling over wool, conversation, and a quick afternoon of needle felting with some good friends. Not only can you swing by the charming house (there is a knitted monkey hanging out in a tree!) to sign up for a myriad of classes or farm tours, but you can purchase felting materials & wool, handmade treasures like little felted animals and knitted scarves, handmade soaps/lotions, and have a chance to pick up some farm fresh fruits and veggies in the warmer months. Stay for awhile and you might just be treated to a hospitable plate of pie or a glass of water as you sit and chat with the family. Natasha, the sweet woman behind Esther's place, is so warm & friendly, bubbling with enthusiasm for fiber arts and the community. I am amazed at how she made her dream a reality and has created this fantastic haven for people to come together and create delightful things. Her family also helps with the business (and the farm); it's nice to see a thriving family business in this sweet little town. Definitely visit Esther's Place if you have a spare afternoon and a desire to learn something new!

Household items for cleaning or anything else. The prices are cheap for most things. Hispanic and Latino owned business. It mostly caters to this population that lives around here. There's lots of items in Spanish but most are in English too. Find cheap liters of pop for a buck. There's also snacks like big bags of nuts for a dollar or more. Cleaning supplies and other household goods can be found. These are mostly for cooking and kitchens. Credit cards are mostly accepted. It has surprisingly good stuff even though it's cheap. There's a small parking lot but it's shared with a bank so be careful to be in the right spot or you could be towed.

This liquor store is brand spic & span new so it's insanely neat, insanely clean and the workers are so nice! They were so eager to help me and show me some good deals. They carry a lot of good beers including Lagunitas, Dragon's Milk, Two Brothers, etc. plus all the watery swill you could want. I don't know much about hard liquors but they seemed to have a good selection of both that and wines. Mix & Match 6 packs for $10.99 and I put a couple of Lagunitas Sucks in my sixer. Seeing as they just opened, they are taking recommendations for things they should order. I asked them to get some 5 Rabbit in! So hopefully they will. It's the closest and most convenient liquor store to me now and with such friendly people, I'm sure I'll be there more than I should.
