This was the place to go when I was growing up and it was known as Pontillo's. My God, it was blessed by the pizza gods. We returned home last week for a visit and agreed to meet our cousins here. It is said that the pizza holds true to the Pontillo's recipe and cooking time, etc. We ordered 2 large pies, both covered with pepperoni and assorted vegetables. Our sad thoughts driving back to the hotel were in agreement: the sauce and cheese were tasteless, the vegetables had no taste and were mostly uncooked, and the dough was soft and chewy. That made us wonder about the flour and other ingredients being used. Tasted cheap. That's not the quality pizza we remembered and used to brag about in pizza arguments. If locals order from thsi place and see them enjoy the food, we thought it might be good. Plenty of parking and on a Wednesday, very busy compared to other restaurants we have seen in the area. The pizza here is like Chicago deep dish pizza without the pan: the risen dough is 3/4" high and filled like a pool with delicious sauce, cheese and toppings. It's an affordable feast! The service was also friendly and efficient. The place has been expanded with additions over the years from the original building. I've asked previously about this, and I was told that I needed to come "at lunchtime." I came out here to Batavia from Rochester at noon for a slice - again, no slices available. I'm not sure what they consider "lunchtime," but feels ridiculous that a pizza shop does not have slices, yet most gas stations do. So, I am done trying to come here anymore. read more

Stopped in this afternoon for a quick bite of pizza. When we've come previously they've sold pizza by the slice but we were pleasantly surprised to learn they had a lunch buffet while we stopped in. This was not the largest buffet you're going to visit, however, it was one of the most tasty with a full salad bar, two pastas, two pizzas, boneless wings, garlic knots, and a dessert station. We were on our way to another restaurant and noticed a sign advertising their 50 cent wings on Wednesday night. Turned around and never looked back as my husband loves wings. We got 3 orders: Bee's Knees Bourbon, Raspberry and Sweet and Sour. The wings were meaty, a good size and the sauces were yummy. My personal favorite was the Bourbon. As an after though we decided we shouldn't choose 3 that were all glazey and sweet, but that was our mistake. Carrots, celery and blue cheese are extra, and you must buy a beverage in order to take advantage of the deal, which I think is somewhat standard in these sorts of deals. The service was good, the wings were good, and I can't speak to anything else as wings were all that we ordered. Would head back to get the wing deal on a future Wednesday, or a different night for one of their other food choices, I was particularly intrigued by the deep dish pizza on their menu. This is the sit of one of the original Pontillo's Pizza restaurants and Batavia's original is actually owned by members of the Pontillo's family but they can't use the name for legal reasons. The offer a full menu for dine-in or take out and have added a bar. Seasonally the have a huge screened deck for outdoor dining that we like to take advantage of. Ordered Family Deal online. Wanted hot wing sauce on half the wings and half Nawlings Blues sauce on the other.. apparently they just mixed the 2 sauces and put it on the wings nothing separated and drenched. Ask for pizza to be pie cut that didn't happen. Wouldn't have bothered me as much if the pizza would have been actually cooked. Middle of the pie was completely raw. Checked the on line menu, it came out to $33.05, $3.13 more, so the $5 off was never applied and charged more than what it should be. Then, when the food was brought to the table was informed they were out of sausage for the italian meat calzone and added extra pepperoni, instead of before it was made to give an option to change it. then, had to get our own to go boxes for left overs. Batavia's Original is not what I remember it when it was Pontillo's back in the day, but you can't complain when you're looking for Sunday lunch in Batavia. I opted for a soup and salad... And I've been meaning to get my hands on some French onion soup lately. It came in a larger than most crock (which was good considering the 4.99 price)... And it was actually REALLY tasty! It also came with a slice of garlic bread. I tried their February salad special as well... A pittsburgh salad which is reminiscent of a Primanti Brothers sandwich in salad form. Waffle fries, shaved steak, a bed of lettuce. My only complaint was that it wasn't hot enough. That dressing it came with (warmed poppyseed something or other) wasn't my favorite so I needed something else. Luckily they had Frank's and I was then satisfied with my meal. Presentation want great, but I don't expect five star plate art when I'm dining at the local pizzeria. Wait staff was pleasant. Wait time was relatively short. And my friend and I managed to find some place to eat since our first and second choices happened to be closed on this particular Super Bowl Sunday. All in all, who can complain? read more

We have ordered periodically from here. Over the past few years they are hit or miss. Mostly miss lately. Today the food showed up really fast, which is actually unusual for them. However the wings were overcooked and weren't even fully covered in the sauce. The pizza was not fully cooked. I didn't take a picture before I started but this is the picture I took when I decided to quit eating. The crust was hard as a rock. The sauce left something to be desired. It almost seemed like it was painted on with a paintbrush. There was nothing to it, it was all dried up. The cheese was burnt and crispy. But the pepperonis were freakin greasy awesomeness. So there's that. The pepperonis on the pizza and the garlic knots were great. I'll try your pizza one more time but, guys you got to work on your sauce and maybe not leave it in the oven so long and if you have to extend your delivery time a little bit longer to take more care on the pizza, please do so. read more

This time opted for the x-large with regular crust. Garbage. So thin and looked & tasted like the dough had been rolled out for awhile before the pizza was baked. It definitely is the same Pontillo's recipe. Crispy on the bottom, chewy in the middle, topped with both mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Yummy. They have large 24 inch pizzas now. They advertise jumbo slices. It's pretty cheap, two slices two toppings for $7.75 read more

We were on our way home from Niagara Falls and stayed overnight in the Batavia area. Looked on Yelp for some help for local pizza joints to order some delivery to our hotel. I see "big slices", I think, "ok, we are in state of NY, should be some decent NY pizza, right?" I should have known I was in for trouble when the girl on the phone was having difficulty understanding wanted a small container of "crushed red pepper." The pizza came and it was cut Chicago style! what the what? This is New York! Come on! Then, it was mostly crust. To add insult to injury, she did not send me the crushed red pepper flakes I asked for, but giardiniera like peppers, no carrots or cauliflower bits. Just odd. I also ordered a bowl of Italian wedding soup, that was woefully bland. The dinner salad was fine, but the oil and vinegar on the side was oddly packaged. Literally, a container of oil and a container of vinegar, which was not particularly tart like vinegar should be, was it watered down? I don't know. The best thing I can say about this place was that it delivered to my room door and it was open until midnight on a Friday night. read more

Good service yet disappointing pizza. I went here about a month ago with two friends after a day trip to Niagara falls. One of my friends is a local that said this was the best pizza in Batavia. As an avid pizza lover I had to try this place. I didn't even look at the reviews beforehand and have drawn the same disappointed conclusion. Their pizza is nothing to write home about. The service was average and the atmosphere was nice with plenty of room and seating. They even have outdoor seating which looked equally pleasing. We began by ordering garlic bread and medium chicken wings. The garlic bread was yummy with plenty of flavor and the nice added touch of cheese. The wings were of average size and taste. The sauce was decent yet tasted like redhot and butter, something I can make at home just as well if not better. The appetizers were a nice way to start off the meal but what I was really looking forward to was the pizza. We ordered all pepperoni with half hot peppers. When the pizza came out it looked delicious with thick fluffy crust so I eagerly took a piece with peppers. As I bit into it expecting that burst of flavor you get from pizza there was a lack of such satisfaction. I continued eating thinking that it was just too hot to taste the flavor but even into the second and third slice there was an empty taste accompanied with longing for pizza goodness. I still can't pinpoint what went wrong with it. It wasn't gross by any means but it was missing something. Maybe the dough didn't have enough salt or the sauce had no seasonings but I ended up resorting to my go to action when the taste of something is lacking flavor: drench it in hot sauce. In the end I ordered a pumpkin cannoli which looked and tasted great, but still didn't make up for the craving I had for a good pizza. Overall, I don't know what other options there are in Batavia for pizza but next time I would much prefer to spend $15 on ingredients to make my own pizza, which I know will be good, rather than leaving dissatisfied. read more

Very disappointed in the service the owner sat us after asking if we wanted to sit outside gave us a table inside (because tables were dirty outside) we were also showed very poor attitude, as if we were disturbing them. Most frustrating part was watching the owner get food and eating Multiple plates while we waited an hour for 2 orders of wings, just to receive the wrong single order of food 40 minutes in. It also took 15 min for our drinks to come. Everyone looked to be busy but service was terrible, no one came to tell us it will just be a few more minutes or to apologize for the long wait.
