Live music and beer on a drizzly Sunday evening
    Amanda M.

Just FYI the wifi isn't good. The kolaches were better than I remembered, but I wish there were more savory non-pork options. Maybe a beef sausage using KG scraps? Beer is drinkable and cold. Service is always friendly!

Kolaches are good. Lots of outdoor space. The beer selection is moderate. No dark options during the warm season. They play live music every now and then it seems.

Such a cool and chill place! Definitely reminds of the old Austin of the 70's. The kolaches are to die for. This is a definite mainstay for Austin. Huge back yard under the trees and shaded. Their beer is so special, unique flavor and wide possibilities. I had a sausage and jack cheese kolache and OMG it was delish. I even got one to go. Ate it the next morning and heating it up was a charm in the microwave. My beer choice that day was Shine. A hazy pale with a 4.5 ABV. It was beyond tasty and if I was the brewer, I would never let this one go. Staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. Sam and Raul are the bomb!Shine on Batch.

Visited on a Saturday morning about 2 hours after opening and was quickly served! Front staff is very kind and friendly. Can sit indoor or outside, lots of space for both. Also plenty of space for parking. Ordered the two plant-based kolaches and they are very similar. Slightly prefer just the veggie sausage kolache over the hashbrown one (enjoyed the bread a little more). Now the sweet kolaches were amazing! Can't pick a favorite. Good balance of filling and bread for both. Each one was about the size of my hand and could split between two people if you wanted! Highly recommend spotting by.

It's always a good time for a kolache and coffee. Batch is super cool because it has coffee, kolaches and beer so there's something for everyone. I loved the pepperoni kolache- it reminded me of a pepperoni roll. The sausage and cheese was nice with super gooey melted cheese. The peppermint mocha was awesome- a perfect holiday pick me up! I look forward to coming back here and enjoying their patio!

Batch is a super cool spot to grab fresh kolaches, hot coffee, and/or a cold beer... it gets super busy on the weekends and is a fun place to hang out with friends while grabbing drinks and some food! FAST FACTS: * Parking - small lot that wraps around the building with additional parking in the back but it can be tough to find a spot on the weekends (street parking nearby)* Online ordering - available through their website for catering * Happy hour - all day Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday through Friday from 4:00 - 7:00 pm with $1 off drafts * Coffee and espresso menu in partnership with Greater Goods Roasting SERVICE - You wait in a line to order but the food and drinks are prepared quickly. There are plenty of tables available both inside and outside so seating isn't an issue even when they are busy. The workers I interacted with were all pleasant and I had a good experience overall! PRICING - The total was $24.49 after tax ($1.89) but before tip for 2 sausage, jalapeño, and cheese kolaches ($4.95 each), 2 fruit sweet cheese kolaches ($4.75 each), and a hibiscus tea ($3.50). I think the pricing is reasonable considering size of the kolaches. I'm not a drinker so I can only speak to the food! For anyone reading who isn't familiar with kolaches, they're a Czech pastry with a fruit or cheese filled yeasted dough. In the Czech Republic, you typically only find sweet variations but Texas offers a lot of savory, usually sausage-filled versions (technically this is a klobásník but they tend to just call both the sweet and savory variations "kolaches"). SAUSAGE, JALAPEÑO, AND CHEESE KOLACHE (8/10) - Pretty good! The sausage inside is cut in half length-wise so you don't get a whole sausage but there's plenty of cheese and jalapeño pieces inside as well as baked into the dough. One was baked more than the other but both were good. I'd order this again! FRUIT SWEET CHEESE KOLACHE (8/10) - I went with cherry and I loved the sweet but slightly tart flavor! The dough is soft but still dense and the ratio of dough to filling was great. I'd order this again! This was my first time at Batch and I will definitely be back! Even as someone who doesn't drink alcohol, it was a super cool place the hangout. The kolaches were good and they have a great variety available... I brought a friend here who was visiting from New York to try her first kolache and I think it left a good impression!

Batch is what Austin is all about. Live-music, coffee, and outdoor seating. Batch went one step ahead and also had Czech specials - like savory and sweet kolaches. They also have a wide varitey of beers. I had a pilsner and an IPA. Also they have vegan kolaches. Got a vegan sausage kolaches and a gouda kolaches. They had live Irish band and plenty of outdoor seating! They're also open late in the night.

A friend of mine was promoting a jam session for jazz musicians so I went to check it out with a friend. So glad I did. What a fun location with inside and outside seating. We were inside for the jam session. It was so fun to see all these young musicians getting up there to showcase their talent! I was impressed. I almost thought about singing but I didn't think I was ready nor did I have the sheet music for the musicians. I only had some green/tropical tea as we were there for a short time, but they were nice enough to give me hot water refills. I look forward to coming back to try some kolaches and maybe sing next time. :-)

Don't let the one $ deceive you. It's not dirt cheap but it's not ridiculously priced either. The ham and cheese kolache was prob my favorite. Soft and flakey, and just the right amount of cheese and ham. I was rlly looking forward to the jalapeños one but it wasn't as great as I expected. The sweet kolaches were on the sweeter side. If you're not a sweets person, I'd recommend sticking to the savory kolaches. Lines get long quick so be prepared or come early in the morning. Limited interior space but they do have outdoor seating. There's also a bbq food truck conveniently in the area so good lunch option as well.

I visited Batch with a friend this past Sunday morning, and I loved it. So what's to love? Firstly - and most importantly - the kolaches. Like a lot of kids that grew up in Texas, I grew up preferring kolaches to donuts (the donut shops around where I grew up offered both, and I never understood why anyone would choose a donut over a kolache!). (FYI for readers not as familiar with kolaches: A kolaches is a Czech pastry - a yeasted dough filled with various fillings (usually sweet - cheese or fruit). They're very popular in Texas due to a strong/prominent Czech immigrant community in Central Texas. In Texas, a variation on the kolache, called klobasneky and filled with variations of sausage, jalapeno, and cheese, is extremely popular.) Walking into Batch made me so happy. After the classic spots in West (the town of West, Texas, not the region of West Texas), this might be the biggest selection of kolaches I've seen: sausage jalapeno cheese, sausage cheese, pepperoni, veggie sausage gouda, fruit sweet cheese, and so many more! I chose a sausage jalapeno cheese (my go to), and it was great. The dough was fluffy and soft. The sausage was great. And they did not skimp on the jalapeno - this was a hot kolache. They warmed it up to the perfect temp. Just a delight to eat. They have tons of seating inside, very retro with lots of tables. Then there's lots of seating outside as well. Overall, I really enjoyed my time at Batch. If I still lived in Austin, I'm sure I'd make my way there pretty regularly for a delicious breakfast.

    Beer brat. Tasty!

Good beers and lively atmosphere. Great food trucks, friendly service. Lots of fans outside and cool AC inside.

The egg potato cheese is awesome! The sweet kolaches are also always delicious. I love that they warm them up. My only complaint is the time it takes for the coffee drinks to come out, but the cortado I got was delicious. I love the ample seating inside and out. Highly recommend!

I find Batch to be underwhelming overall. The location is nice and the have ample parking, They have a large outside space along with plenty of seating inside if that's more your thing. All kolaches have milk in the batter. It would be great if they could make one without for people with a lactose allergy. The coffee they serve here is lawsuit hot. Have to wait 15 minutes minimum for it to cool off. Every time I go I'm shocked at how long the line is inside and how slow the staff moves. This weekend there were 6 people behind the bar, but only one person working a cash register when there were 8 guests waiting to place their order.

There was a festival going on, so parking was maxed out and there was a line to be served. Worth the wait, though.

Ask the Community - Batch - Craft Beer and Kolaches

On the menu there is a "conchas" listed. What is that?

A concha is a traditional Mexican sweet bread roll.

Do they only have beer and cider or do they have wine & liquor too?

    Some wine. No liquor.

    Do they have draft beer?

Yes. Probably only 6-8 beers on draft, but an enormous selection of micro-brews and ciders in cans and bottles in a big refrigerator case for eating in or take-out.

I'm a vegetarian, and can find lots to eat there - they have a good vegan hot dog as well as bean and cheese nachos, and I think a veggie burger as well (but I usually get the hot dog with fries if I'm hungry, and the nachos if I just want to snack). Their fries are addictive - I'm in love with them, and will happily steal others' when they're not looking! Kitchen open until midnight and doors open until 2 am - we go here after Moody Center concerts a lot. Bartenders are always friendly. Food is always hot. Not sure what some of the other reviewers ran into, but if it was sub-par, that's NOT the standard. We're here 1-2x/week (we work at Moody and come here afterwards to unwind). If you're looking for a dive bar that's friendly, has cold beer and A/C, and want to watch a game on one of the many TVs, play some darts, or just hang with your friends, go to C&A!

Plain old bar. No reason not to go there. But no reason to go there either. Perfectly adequate for what it is offering. If it was nearby, why not? * * * Minor notes. a) Even though this place is right on top of campus, I noticed almost no undergraduates the Friday night I was there. There were a bunch of elderly and middle-aged Longhorn golf club types and a handful of Cherry Creek Coffeehouse style graduate students either out on dates or working on some project. Maybe the undergrads were in their dorms or sororities doing the pre-parties for the eventual march on Sixth Street. The Crown and Anchor is not the place you would want to wear your slinky black cocktail dress. So if a black cocktail dress is in your plan, you would rose-all-the-way with your friends in your room, then change over and head downtown. b) The Crown and Anchor is across the street from a beautiful lush strand of trees north of campus. The church tower from the Seminary can be seen in the middle distance. This ought to be one of the best views in Austin. Except that UT has plunked a maintenance shed in front of all this. So you spend your time looking at a grungy trailer-like thing where they give maintenance guys their schedules and keep stashes of outdoor equipment and repair supplies. This is not where you want to go to look at the sunset. Turn your back to all that and watch the game.

The interior reminds me of a burned out home with a dirty concrete floor below and scorched, black exposed rafters above. Plenty of old car license plates on the wall and a jukebox off to the side. Bring a picture of your dog, because they have a large corkboard for customers and their pooches. They have plenty of good craft beers on tap and a decent full bar. This is a great place to bring your own darts or pool cue and since there are two dartboards and a pool table here. There's plenty of four top tables, seating at the bar or five booths to sit at. There's also an outdoor seating area that allows smoking. If you are hungry, they do have a food truck out back that serves up tacos, ramen, nachos, etc. On our visit, the truck was not open after 4:30pm. As a result, we just had one beer and left. It's your overall decent local neighborhood dive that has its regulars, but not worth driving across town for.
