I recently spent 5 days on a girls trip to Austin, a city I had previously only visited once, like 7 years ago. Since that trip, I have viewed Texas with a nearly singular goal of revolution--uh, I mean, trying Texas-style kolaches. So imagine my glee when a kolache and beer establishment presented itself as an option?! We tried to go one afternoon, but kolaches were in seriously limited supply, so we returned the next morning. I had a little bit of the ol' vacation gut, and it was relatively early, so I didn't partake of any beer, but their selection, which featured a variety of Czech style beers, looked really good. If I go back, will definitely try one or three of them. What I did have and enjoy, however, was a delightful oat milk latte as well as some kolaches. Got a veggie sausage & gouda, four cheese (which was split), and a strawberry & cheese, which most resembles the kolaches you find in the Czech Republic. My companions got a jalapeño cheese and a couple of meat options, which I did not try. But lemme tell you: that shit was good! Airy yet indulgent, substantial but not overwhelmingly so. Very good. Service was prompt and friendly, the spot is very cute, and they have great souvenirs to take home and prove to your friends that you had what is, perhaps, one of the best kolache experiences in Texas*. This is a go to spot for me. Quality food and beers. This place is spacious and has a lot of seating. Very kind and helpful staff. The kolachies are high quality and baked with care. I don't have a picture but my favorite is the hash brown and veggie sausage. I'm not a fan of veggie sausages, but Batch is doing something right for this to be my favorite. The standard sausage cheese or with jalapeño is so good. There is a good bread to meat ratio. Some koalchies can be too bread forward. At Batch it's a nice balance. Another favorite of mine are the concha's they make themselves. The flavors always change but you really can't go wrong. I've had a chocolate one and the most recent seasonal one, pumpkin. Parking initially appears tight, but there's a decent amount of spots in the back. Service is super casual. You order your kolaches and bevvies at the checkout, and wait till your order is called. Kind of wish they had a digital ticketing system so you can hang outside while you wait, but the charming interior and seating is relaxing and quite pleasant. I really enjoy this spot. It's casual and outdoorsy without being grimy. Don't expect table service and to be catered to here. It has the typical cafe set-up where you order at the counter and there's a spot to put your dishes so you can bus your own seating. That said, the staff is always friendly and willing to make a suggestion. Every vegetarian kolache I've had here has been delicious. I even snagged a vegan one once and it was really good! There's a selection of brews from coffee to cider and beer and there's a variety for almost every kind of palette. The beer items do change so if nothing catches your eye, it wouldn't hurt to stop by in again. The cortado is great during the lunch time. Pleasantly surprised by how yummy my sausage jalapeños and cheese kolache! I'm so glad I gave Batch another try. I stopped coming here for almost two+ years because the bread just wasn't what I expected my kolaches to have - soft, chewy, has some sweetness to it. I like Batch. I come here often enough that I find the food delish, the beer icy cold (and a good variety of options), the service friendly, and the ambiance ambiancing. You won't go wrong. What I do think has gone wrong is management cheaping out in small areas and passing this on to the consumer. For example, I have braces and these bands are tight. And when they're tight, it makes it painful to bite into food. To work around this, I use a fork and knife to cut my food up into bites. Yesterday, I asked for just such utensils. The gracious server said they have knives around the corner. I asked if there were anything else and he said, "No." Why only offer knives? I didn't eat my cinny roll yesterday morning as I COULDN'T and I got to thinking about all the families that come in (and there are a lot). What do the parents that have to cut up the food for their kiddos use? Do they use a knife and then another knife to make sure the kolache or cinny roll doesn't move while cutting? I guess you want your customers to shank their food and then spear it into their mouths? Like republicans, it's weird and I'm flummoxed by this management choice. Surely the bulk rate for a knife/spork combo is pennies different. I do really encourage Batch to review this weird management decision and provide more than knives. If not for me, won't somebody please think of the...parents? read more

Cute spot that a friend in town had recommended I try for both the beer and kolaches. Lots of space inside, a decent amount of taps (maybe 8ish...for a smaller operation), has available beer to go (although sadly not the one on tap that I reeeeeally wanted lol), and an assortment kolaches - both sweet and savory. The staff is super nice and laid back, and helpful on picking menu items/drafts when seeking recommendations. But, for at least my first beer, there was no recommendation needed. Earthly Pastry was a no-brainer. A peanut butter with vanilla (and milk sugar). As a PB stout fiend, this...was freaking delicious. If I didn't wander by around like 2pm, I would have definitely had another. I was a little upset they didn't have any canned to-go, but c'est la vie (and the staff/email support were super prompt after the server suggested I email someone to see if/when they might be canning). Beer aside (and it's delicious), while I didn't have the kolaches, they looked delicious - though, the varieties that they happened to have out didn't really speak to me, likely because I just came from brunch at Nixta...and basically eating and drinking my way through Austin...food guilt prevailed. BUT, next time...definitely. They also have a full-blown coffee bar and people come on by to came out like a Starbucks, with free wifi n all - and I'll admit, I did find a seat next to an outlet for some charge time. Haven't been here since before the pandemic. Met a friend yesterday for lunch. We bought a few items so we could taste different things. We tried the cheese and jalapeño kolache-highly recommend! It was delicious. We also had a vegan sausage kolache. It was a link-style sausage and it was pretty good. Not sure but it may have been Field Roast brand. We finished with a chocolate Nutella-type kolache and it was, of course, delicious. She had a cold brew that she said was good and I had iced tea, also good. We sat out back and despite the heat it was pretty pleasant. There is a lot of room out back and it's dog-friendly. This place does kolaches and they do them well. They also offer a number of beers and ciders, etc. And everything is reasonably priced. I'll be back to try those on a non-work day. read more

I don't think I'd ever had a kolache before I moved to Texas. I was pretty unimpressed when I tried them from random donut shops around Austin. However, since trying Batch, I can declare that I LOVE kolaches. At Batch, the bread is so incredibly soft and fluffy. The jalapeno cheese and sausage is my favorite, with the pepperoni coming in as a close second. The sweet kolaches are also delicious and taste just like a donut! I always get a chai latte as well -- and it's so good, not too sweet! The space is perfect to work out of -- it's relatively quiet, has ample seating and outlets. The price of almost every item has increased since they first opened, and I'm sad they've stopped offering their brisket kolaches. However, they still have a variety of savory and sweet kolaches, including veggie options. The morning I went, they offered a bacon, egg, and cheese kolache even though it wasn't on the menu, so make sure you look at their display case to see what's there! The bread came out hot with melty cheese. I preferred the pepperoni and mozzarella cheese or the ham and cheese over the sausage and cheese, but the bread on all of them was super addictive. Super solid IPA offerings and just really good craft beers without jumping the shark. The peppercorn offering nailed it for an "it's almost summer" beer while the hazies and stouts were just awesome. Came by here for a snack on a Saturday afternoon, there was a nice crowd here but plenty of seating available inside and out. I brought a friend who was visiting for their first kolache experience so we split 2 savory and 2 sweet kolaches to get both tastes. Given how delicious every option sounded we asked one of the employees for their recommendations and tried the brisket and jalapeño sausage for savory and the chocolate turtle and blueberry cheesecake for sweet. I was expecting the brisket to be the star of the savory ones but we were blown away by the jalapeño sausage kolache. It had a fantastic spice that balanced with the creamy cheese and soft bread nicely. The brisket was tasty, but there's plenty of good places in the area to get good brisket so I'd highly recommend the sausage. The turtle kolache was much more chocolate forward than I expected, if I hadn't known there was caramel on it I wouldn't have noticed the taste. It came out more like a chocolate croissant (not complaining!) but it was very different than the typical turtle dessert. The blueberry cheesecake was my favorite of the two sweet kolaches. The blueberry jam was super flavorful while not being too sweet, and the cheesecake had a delicious taste but didn't give you that feeling like you survived a major life event that cheesecake desserts can give you. Overall, I think this is a great spot to come share a few kolaches, especially for someone's first time as you can try a wide variety of them and be confident they'll all come out tasty. read more

I think I've found my new favorite place! I've been to Batch twice now. Once on a Sunday for Kolaches and coffee and once on a Sunday for Mexican food (Lote food truck) and great beer. So, I went on a Sunday around 11am and the place was pretty busy. I ordered 5 savory and 3 sweet kolaches. I was a little disappointed that the savory kolaches weren't warm enough. The cheese was not melted in any of them. Since it was my first time there, I can't tell you if you have to ask them to warm the kolaches up for you. The sweet ones were perfectly warm.
