I evaluated several contractors who were quite miffed that I had already done all that - Tom and Elise took it in stride in our first meeting - and it was an excellent collaboration from the start. They made recommendations that improved the usefulness of the kitchen and validated the quality of what I had procured. They lined up an AMAZING crew of amazing tradesman (carpenters (love you Chris!), electricians, plumbers, drywallers, painters, countertop fabricator, flooring installers. They managed the entire 5-week effort (which extended well beyond just remodeling the kitchen - but my entire home) with such grace and finesse. Of course there are always hiccups with these things, but Tom kept to his plan and kept me assured by seeing he always knew the latest and greatest - he even uncovered things before I did (which is pretty miraculous as I was living in my master bathroom onsite the whole time). About 4 months later I re-engaged them to support the upgrade of my vanity in my master bath (as I was living in my master bathroom during the previously-completed remodel). Both slabs looked great with my flooring, cabinet and paint colors. I went with the Terrazura and everything continued to go smoothly through installation. I have been ignored by Jose and the management team for over a week despite my repeated attempts to resolve a botched installation. I grew up the granddaughter of a Stone Mason; I know quality work, and I know when a company is taking shortcuts. I specifically chose my stone because I was told it would NOT require a seam. Later in the process, the story changed. It became clear they simply didn't want to deal with the labor-intensive task of maneuvering a large slab into place--a job that might have required a minor wall repair but would have resulted in the superior finish I paid for. I only begrudgingly agreed to a seam because they promised it would be executed perfectly. My original fears were justified: it was a disaster. The issues: * Poor Craftsmanship: The seam is recessed and uneven. It is a functional defect that collects debris and requires constant scrubbing. * Lack of Effort: While I understand vein matching is difficult, there was clearly no attempt at a professional transition here. It stands out like a sore eye. * Dismissive Management: After a failed "repair" (just smeared epoxy), the stone manager told me "nothing more can be done." As homeowners we don't know how to deal with them and they take advantage of us. I worked with Sterling exteriors. The rep came out circled the hail damage and came out and walked through the damage with the inspector. He acted as my advocate and I ended up getting new siding and gutters. They just finished the work this week and it looks great. With no out of pocket cost and the rep actually added trim and a few other items on their own. The rep you deal with makes a difference. I worked with Mike O'Brien at 847-703-0299. He was great. Mike kept me updated the whole way through the process. My experience with Mike was exceptional.

I had Sterling Exteriors out to quote on some soffit work that I needed done. They came in…read moremid-September but told me to wait until the end of October to book anything because it would be less expensive. So I waited until the end of October and called. I was told that they were already closing down for the winter but that they had a guy that they worked with who would honor their quotes and do the work. They came back, did a quote, and took pictures to share with their guy. A few days later their referral came out and measured everything. Sterling Exteriors then confirmed what day their guy was going to be coming out. I arranged the financing on my own and had them back out to sign the paperwork and give the the deposit check. When I was giving the deposit check I was told that at that very moment, their guy was out buying the supplies. We were all ready to do. 10 minutes later Sterling Exteriors called back and said that there guy wasn't going to be able to do it because of "a number of issues, but mainly manpower". So they had provided pictures to their guy, confirmed the start date, were in the process of purchasing the required materials, and had a signed work order and deposit. And all of a sudden the guy who was all ready to go couldn't do it. So I said that Sterling needed to do it themselves, but was told no, they were closed for the year and that there was nothing that could be done. It's plainly obvious that Sterling Exteriors under quoted the work and that neither their referral nor Sterling Exteriors themselves would honor the pricing I was given, and that I was being given the run around as to the reason why. When I confronted Sterling Exteriors about this they stopped replying altogether. Very shady business that won't honor their own pricing even after the contract was signed.

If this review were based solely on the work itself, I would have given 5 stars. I recently purchased a home and hired D'Franco Painting to remove wallpaper from three rooms, one of which had painted-over wallpaper. Their team successfully removed the wallpaper and completed the work well. My concern is with the billing process. The estimate I received listed 25 hours and was quoted at approximately $2,600. A two-person crew worked on the project for about three days, generally from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (give or take an hour), which led me to believe the total labor would be around 25-30 hours. When I received the final invoice, however, I was billed for 52 hours, bringing the total to approximately $3,890. At no point in the estimate was it stated that the hours were per person, calculated as man-hours, or otherwise dependent on crew size. Nothing in the estimate suggested that the final labor hours could more than double based on how many employees were assigned to the project. It took multiple conversations with both Daphne, the office manager, and David before I understood why there was such a significant difference between the estimate and the final invoice. We paid the bill in full. However, I would have appreciated greater transparency from the beginning. Had I understood how the labor was being calculated, I likely would have completed the project in phases rather than all at once. Because of this experience, we will not be using D'Franco Painting for future projects. If you choose to work with them, I would strongly encourage you to ask detailed questions about how labor hours are estimated and billed so there are no surprises at the end of the project

Based on my experience, DeFranco Painting is unprofessional, disorganized, and potentially dangerous. David subcontracted the work, and one of his subcontractors threatened me because I wouldn't tell him how much I was paying DeFranco, trespassed into our home after being fired, and had to be removed by David himself when being fired--who then told me to hide in the garage for safety. We even had to call the police due to a confrontation outside our home between David and the subcontractor. David quoted us 3 coats of paint, then denied it mid-job and tried to charge more, despite written proof. He also charged an additional $500 for mud work done in a tiny section of the home. We were also told by his own subs that he doesn't pay them on time, which could result in liens against your property. He failed to provide the proper legal documents required by IL law when requesting final payment. We had to involve an attorney, and instead of resolving the issue, David threatened to put a lien on our house even though he didn't have the correct paperwork. Work took 5+ weeks instead of ~2, and the quality was poor: damaged floors, blinds, window crank, and paint everywhere. Avoid DeFranco Painting. They're kind, good-natured, considerate, friendly, and efficient. Any time I mentioned adding or changing something, it got done that day. Like within minutes. We met them through our neighbor, who recommended ML as the contractor she didn't hire for her bathroom, but really wished she had. And I am so thankful we did hire them. They took our bathroom from 1986 Miami Vice on steroids and completely transformed it into a contemporary spa-like retreat. They did such a great job we had them return to build a new deck and remodel our kitchen. We will have them back again, whenever the next project rolls around.
