Our third time staying at the inn and second in the Balcony Room. As with previous experiences, our stay was wonderful. The inn, inside and out, is very peaceful and relaxing. The Balcony Room has a comfortable bed and two chairs, plus a small balcony with two chairs and a small table. It was nice seating on the balcony and enjoying the sound of birds and overall quiet. The afternoon cookies and beverages, wine (5:30-6:30) and breakfast were great. We will definitely return the next time we are in the area and recommend the inn. read more

I spent one night here...very cozy place. Although please be in super good shape to access rooms on the third floor. I am now, but they did warn people! I was glad I'd packed a small back pack just for the overnight part of my trip because woooooooow it's a climb up narrow steps and lugging a suitcase would have been murderous. I did wonder what would happen if there was a fire, I'd likely die getting down the steps in a panic before the fire dept. got there! Other than the physicality of the place, it was a nice overnight. I enjoyed the breakfast, the granola is out of this world good, but the sweet on top of sweet of the French toast with chocolate sauce I could not eat. I'm sure others like it though. I enjoyed my egg. And the granola. Coffee not so much. But I admit to my coffee snobbery. The room was well appointed, and mostly pretty quiet for an older house. The ladies who were there running the place were very sweet. The hostess could not recommend a restaurant other than the one owned by the family, lol, which I could not afford, but she tried to help me out with a couple suggestions. Everything was clean and tidy. Parking was in the back and easy enough to manage. It's in a busy neighborhood with apartments next door, and easy to miss on the one way street. I'd do another overnight there, but not sure I could handle a few nights of the climb upstairs. In their corner, they do mention that the climb is a real live thing, so take them seriously! read more

Charming as can be! If you like B & Bs, this is a quintessential one and has the great combination of social opportunities with other guests and alone time that you might be looking for. If you're a hotel person trying a BnB for the first time, this is a dive right into the deep end. I'm personally a fan of this type of property/travel experience and it didn't disappoint! Treats and drinks are offered in the afternoons at check in and the evening has a wine hour where folks seemed to gather on the idealistic front porch or vine covered back patio to enjoy. Friendly conversations flitted about between me and other guests while I checked in and got settled in a room adjacent to the main building on the lower level. I was delighted with my choice as it featured vintage Tiffany esque lamps and a deep soaking tub. I was pregnant during my stay and it was absolute bliss! I felt safe and cozy throughout my experience and enjoyed the breakfast the next morning with plenty of coffee to power me up for what was a working day in Santa Barbara. We stayed here this weekend and really enjoyed our stay. The location is great for any downtown event or tourist experience. The room was really cute and very clean. The building itself feels like a little slice of serenity for us coming from a big city. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast which is included with your room rate was really Sweet and well served. It included coffee orange juice, granola and yogurt, quiche and toast. When we came to visit it was my partners birthday and they welcomed him with a cute personalized card and little champagne bottles in the fridge. In a world where hotels often feel very isolating and have little personality this was a very welcome experience of how traveling used to be. Internet was fast and heating was great. We had a lively stay at this quaint B&B. The room was a good size for me and my husband. The bathroom is rather small and can only hold one person at a time. The stairs to the second floor are ok but the stairs to the third floor looked rather narrow and steep. I don't know, personally, as our room was on the second floor. The daily breakfast was good and filling. The staff was very friendly. The B&B can be walking distance to State Street, weather permitting. It was too hot and humid the week we visited and we opted to drive rather than walk. The blocks are long blocks and not well-lit at night. Me and a friend stayed here for a weekend trip, and we absolutely loved it! Close drive to the beach as well as the downtown area, and such a cute property! Our room was a little small, but we got the cheapest room. The parking lot is also pretty tight, but street parking isn't hard to find. where does one begin? I enter the property, go up the beautiful stairs where i can see my soon to be balcony, I got a little confused and there was a sweet young girl who happily told me what to do to get in my room she was all smiles and reassured me. I walk up the steps in the building (extremely clean and beautiful) I enter my room and am instantly in my dollhouse. I'm in a literal dollhouse, I'm a young girl traveling by myself and i couldn't help but feel as though i walked into a dream. To the right of me is my sink with a big mirror, to the left a vanity. I look to the further left and see my beautiful balcony with views of the mountains and an abundance of trees and plants covering the rails for privacy. The whole room is filled with vintage furniture, an old chimenea is keeping the room at the perfect temperature with all the windows open for clean air. The room smells amazing, an earthy sweetness (I cannot explain it), and is immaculately clean.The toilet and shower are separated which is to my preference for cleanliness reasons. The shower is beautiful too, you can see the mountains from it. The next morning i get my breakfast, which was amazing and beautifully placed in front of me by the sweetest ladies working in the kitchen! I will leave photos of everything but please note,they won't capture my dollhouse room as it was. I will be coming back, it's the perfect place to bring someone you love! read more

I can't much about the place as I attempted to make a reservation but as many people do prior to spending their money, especially on such pricey places to stay that are not Air BNBs, I had some questions, as I had never been here before. Needless to say, the first impression was pretty much the only impression that I will have to ever consider staying at this place. I was looking at reservations online and saw that the max I could add were two people. So, I decided to call to find out and initially started by asking about any member discounts (government, AAA, etc). When I accidentally called it a hotel, the person, who I'm assuming is the owner of the location cut me off right away and said:" I'm gonna cut you off there because we're a bed and breakfast/ inn, not a hotel" I apologized for my mislabeling but when I tried to ask about squeezing someone in and possibly paying extra, before I could finish my question, she immediately cut me off to say "absolutely not, it's a fire hazard " she halfwittedly apologized by saying "not to sound harsh, but it would be dangerous and the rooms are made for two people only" Based on this whole interaction and her immediately cutting me off before I could finish any of my questions or explaining what I was looking for, I became disheartened and decided it be best to politely tell her I needed to speak with my party about possibly booking here and I will call back if we decide to. She mentioned that she will look out for my call but might not be able to answer because of how busy it's been due to the colleges returning for orientations and the school season. When I also tried to tell her her voicemail was full from the previous times I had attempted to call earlier, she again, cut me off and said that she's just an old Lady and isn't good with setting up voicemails or technology. I understand that running a business can be frustrating and overwhelming during peak season (or even in general), but the bare minimum for running a business in hospitality should be being able to set up voicemails or be available to answer calls as best as they can with out being audibly frustrated about it (or at least hiring someone to do it for you) and especially not be so rude to potential guests, I would even go so far as to mention particularly towards one who has worked in the customer service industry and actually talks to staff and business owners in the industry with respect and a pleasant demeanor, such as myself. read more

This place was so enjoyable to stay at. My boyfriend and I did a weekend getaway to Santa Barbara. This inn was so hospitable. We stayed in their country suite with spa bath. The spa bath is actually a tub with a few jets. We were excited to try it out but the tub was a bit dusty were the jets were and a few of the knobs were broken. The fridge had a bunch of water in the back of it for some reason. My boyfriend had to scoop the water out with a cup and dump it. Our suite has an old cozy feels to it. You can hear the sound of the wood boards creak ever so slightly as you walk around. Our suite came equipped with a kitchen, fridge, flat screen TV, WiFi, stove, a pot, a few utensils, some small ceramic baking dishes, glass cups, cabinets, a hair dryer, ice cube trays, and ironing board. We cooked some steak there on our last day and it tasted great. I brought my fire stick and we were able to watch Netflix at night. The owners and workers there were very hospitable. They served wine and cheese in the afternoon and put out cakes and cookies in the evening time. The cakes were excellent. My favorite offering was there breakfast. Oh my goodness... their homemade frittata, yogurt with fruits and granola, coffee, orange juice, and bagels with homemade jams were to die for. The booking was also super easy. This inn is affordable and has great food. Give them a try when you're in town! There was also ample parking. read more

Lovely stay! We stayed at Bath Street in for two nights and had a lovely time. Their breakfast area is pleasantly protected from street noise by the main building and has plenty of lush plants to give it color. Breakfast was tasty and served immediately after you arrived on the patio. The sleeping space was small but cozy and we felt quite comfortable as we slept. Local girl who likes a staycation a few times a year to take a bubble bath relax, and sleep in. I have since been back to bath street in and stayed in the Susan Loft and LOVEDDDD it. I wish I could live there. I love having a separate entrance and a balcony with a tub. The Balcony was great for afternoon tea and also I was able to have a friend over for a drink while looking out at the Santa Barbara mountains. I appreciate the host for giving me a small discount when my tub broke and for giving me to-go coffee in the mornings as I was up early for work every day. Beds are very uncomfortable. The inn is no longer welcoming and they have this Airbnb / VRBO vibe now. No real hostess no smells of baking from kitchen. All the food is pre packaged in plastic. This place is a MUST!!!! We went here for a little anniversary get away and was more than I was expecting. We arrived and they had homemade cookies free waiting in the lobby. They had board games, blankets to sit outside and an amazing porch to enjoy the time. Highly recommend just sitting in the front on the rocking chairs . Then five rolled around and they out complimentary wine. The breakfast was delightful with plenty of yummy food sitting outside on the patio. With coffee, granola, fresh fruit, toast and an amazing quiche. The room was on the smaller size but was perfect for the night. The only downside was the bed itself. It was rather hard and the linens were not soft or luxurious. More like what would be at at your grandmas house. But for us the feel , staff, and all the little touches made up for this! read more

This was my first time in Santa Barbara. Our choice of the Bath Street Inn turned out to be a great choice. The Inn was originally a private home, built in 1886. It is full of Victorian charm. Our room was likely the original primary bedroom, called the Abigail for the First Lady of the house. The bed was wonderfully comfortable. The bathroom was a very small space, (likely a closet space converted) with a shower and a toilet. A sink built into an old dresser was outside the bathroom, in the bedroom. An antique armoire served for hanging clothes, and another old-fashioned dresser for drawers. The whole place was quiet and peaceful. Perhaps the very best thing about the Inn was the breakfast. A homemade granola with yogurt was served every day, as was fresh-squeezed orange juice and good coffee. Toasted, fresh bread was offered, and a lovely fruit compote. Each day we were there a different hot dish was served. There was a tasty cream cheese pancake one day, a poached egg, a cheese and potato quiche, etc. There was enough food to hold over even an ample appetite until noon! Two sisters own the Inn now, and take turns acting as hostess. They, as well as all the other people working there, were warm, friendly and helpful. I look forward to returning again to the Bath Street Inn. read more

I would prefer to rate the inn at 3.5 if possible. The comments about on site owner is accurate. I prefer the English style b and b where the owner greets you. This one is run like a small hotel with hired help cooking and managing. The Rose Room was comfortable, but a bit cramped after a few days . Breakfast was fine with quiche that was pretty standard. I could see in the posted pictures that this breakfast was exactly identical to past breakfasts. The second day breakfast was pancakes along with fruit cup, orange juice, and coffee. A phenomenal place to stay in Santa Barbara. The price was kind of high, $200 total for one night for 2 guests. We stayed in the balcony room which was very nicely decorated. It was a small room but it felt very warm and cozy on a winter night. The restroom was also small but very cute overall. The whole building is historic looking and everything inside was nicely decorated. Very quaint and charming. You could tell that the people that runs this place loves it very much. Everything was super clean and immaculate from the room, common spaces to the patio. There is parking spaces available in the back but also plenty of street parking. The place was very quiet and peaceful. They have water, coffee and tea available at all times. There was also wine available in the early evening. The dining table also had cookies as well. The breakfast was amazing. They prepared a good selection of foods with hot coffee as well. The check in and out process was simple and seamless. For first timers to the B&B scene, this was a wonderful introduction to B&B living. We had a lovely, one night stay here. Their hospitality was warm and inviting. The charm and comfort of this 1890's home, the professionalism of the staff, and the new acquaintances made during the afternoon tea while eating fresh baked cakes and cookies, and later the wine and cheese social, everything was completely memorable. This should not be missed when you visit. Next morning's breakfast was delicious. The menu included the best of the best homemade granola served with yogurt, fresh OJ, melon cup, special gourmet coffee, hot out of the oven banana nut muffins, and a light fluffy slice of spinach cheese frittata. And there were still leftover baked goodies from the night before, if you felt indulgent. My only discomfort was my room, the Abigail room. Roomy and decorated adorably but facing the street, the room got some street noise, the King sized bed was a bit too firm for my preferences, and the bathroom shower and toilet area was cramped with little room to set your personal items. I would not choose this room for my return visit because of that. Thankfully, they have 11 other rooms to choose from, so this was definitely not a deal breaker. Just a tip: Even though we were here for just one night, Santa Barbara always has some kind of fiesta or fun event going on, particularly on the weekends. There are museums to see, places to bike/hike/drive, beaches, and quaint one-of a kind businesses to patronize. I suggest checking the city's website for things to do while you visit Santa Barbara. And we, being cost conscious, were able to double our time in the area by getting an affordable motel that got us near, but not in, Santa Barbara for the first night so we could have more time in SB. Meanwhile, thank you Deborah for making our stay a near perfect experience and one we will love to repeat. Deborah was a wealth of information of current goings-on in the area, and guided us to good eats in town. We stayed at this B&B the weekend before Valentines Day! 3D/2N: Sat-Mon Room: Tiffany Room located in 3rd floor of the main house. It was well lit and have ample space for 2 people. It has a regular queen bed, a murphy bed, an iron and board in the bathroomS The bedsheets were clean and no weird scent. However, the bed moves if you are not still and does have a squeaky sound. It might not be comfortable for some people. The small TV has basic channels and the vanity dresser is a nice touch in the bedroom. I also like the fact that this room is close to the TV room and the shelf where they keep their collection of VHS tapes! The bathroom is also clean and the toilet is fairly new. However, I was hoping for more complimentary toiletries given the price of room is almost the same as the hotel. We only got 1 small shampoo/conditioner, and 2 soap bars for two people. They do have qtips and cotton pads which is good! There is a wall in hairdryer as well and a small closet to hang your clothes. Clean and ample towels for us as well. Food: We had the quiche for two breakfasts in a row which is why my review lost a star. You could tell the quiche from Monday was from Sunday's batch based on how the portions were cut. My advice is to ensure guests do not eat the same food for consecutive days. My expectation was really high given that the place is known for lodging and breakfast. BUT! The afternoon tea was delectable. This is served around 4pm in the dining room. They had a couple of cakes and cookies you can pair it with their teas. Teas are not the fancy ones but that's enough for me. I LOVED their lemon cake and oatmeal cookies! This you should NOT miss. The wine/cheese tasting is just your basic cheese plus a choice of red or white wines. Nothing special. I don't understand why people are complaining about how basic it is. Its free. Go outside and pay for wine tasting if you aren't happy. Its free. The place is not known for vineyards and wine. Price: $$$ its a little expensive in my opinion Parking: There is parking in the front of the house but more spaces behind it. The entrance/exit is on the right of the house Service: EXCEPTIONAL. I think it's one of the reason I recommend this B&B. Everyone is polite and nice! I can't put any words to describe how nice the staff is. Atmosphere: If you like quiet, calm, and relax kind of deal then this is the place for you. They play very mellow music in the living room along the likes of Norah Jones. The living room is also good for reading and playing board games. BE WARNED that the place cater to a specific audience. It means that if you don't like quiet, old school, Victorian themed, pretty much like grandma looking house then this is not the place for you. Do not be ridiculous to book yourself a room here and complain that its too "old" when you saw floral wallpapers and classy vanity dressers in your room before you book it. Cute B&B, not right in the middle of the downtown area so it's a good location if you're looking for a more quiet/mellow vibe, but still easy to get to State Street & the pier. They do an evening wine & cookies and in the morning, breakfast was pretty good (French toast, poached egg, orange juice, yogurt, fruit, granola). They also have a cute patio area - if it wasn't raining we definitely would have taken advantage of this. Lots of VHS tapes and board games in the common area. We were looking for a warm place that was not a standard hotel and we are so happy that we found Bath Street Inn. The owner Vicky was very welcoming and accommodating to all our needs. She made me breakfast every morning as I had dietary restrictions and it was absolutely delicious. At 4:30 every day they have tea and cookies and before dinner they have wine. They also turn the fire place on in the evening or on chilly days to make it cozy throughout the living room. Such a great place for a getaway! Check in was easy, the staff (Maria in particular!) was nice and friendly, parking on site. Wifi is strong and fast. Great intimate setting, with game boards, books, tea/coffee, cookies every day, and a lovely breakfast in the morning. Our room was the country room. So spacious! A large kitchen, lounge area, a TV, and a nice bath with great toiletries. The only reason we are giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the fireplace was not functional. We stayed in the Partridge room which I LOVED! I would rather stay here than a hotel. The employees are all so kind. They are there until about 9pm and we're there to ensure our stay was enjoyable. The breakfast was absolutely amazing! Also wine and deserts are put out at 530pm and they leave it out so late comers can nibble! They are freshly made and absolutely delicious! The walk to the main area on state street is less than a mile maybe .5 of a mile. Plan to rent this place out with friends in the future!! PS despite wood floors and the fact that it's a Home it was so quiet that we took a day nap and never heard anything. We were never disturbed. It was just an average stay. I had hoped for more of a stay where you meet the owners and can ask them about the area and have more communication. But instead it felt like a small hotel with a manager on site and breakfast served by 3 servers and no one talks to each other. Didn't feel at all like a quaint B&B experience. Since I live and drove in from LA, I wish I'd just commuted in for the wedding event and stayed in my own spacious home with all my own amenities than in this B&B that gives a surface appearance of being homey and comfortable but isn't. My room, the Tiffany room and private bathroom is very small. The furniture in the room is just uncomfortable. The bed is very springy so any movement on the bed just means both my husband and I will feel it. No other amenities here separate from your room and breakfast. 13 rooms total so quite a few people at this one lot. The neighbor owns a motorcycle and likes to rev it up making lots of noise and fumes that come up to the room while blasting old school hip hop/rap music. It is quieter and serene in my own neighborhood than staying here. It costs $250/night not including taxes/misc. I stayed last month for 2 nights. What a cute, calm and happy place. We are so happy we chose this B&B for our Santa Barbara getaway. PROS (95%) -So cute!!! We stayed in the Jacaranda room. Our room was so cutely decorated. Careful attention to detail was everywhere: the embroidered curtains exactly matched the embroidered bedspread and pillows. The little doilies on the nightstands. The pink striped wallpaper. -The house itself looks so cute from the street, especially with flowers blooming everywhere. -Breakfast was filling, healthy and delicious! The quality of the food was great--everything was homemade and fresh, a far cry from the plastic-packaged danishes and styrofoam bowls of cereal found at typical hotel continental breakfasts. -Staff were attentive and friendly, always. -The location was perfect for us. Close enough to walk to State Street, but far away enough that you don't hear the noise from the street. It is quiet and calm with birds chirping in the morning. -The little living room area with the tea, coffee, and cookies was the cherry on top. CONS (5%) -We didn't particularly care for the scent of the toiletries (palo santo, I think?) BUT they were cute and seemed high-quality. -Our key didn't work to open the front door (or at least, we couldn't figure it out) so we were unable to access the living area of the main house when the side door wasn't open. Our room was on the ground floor since it happened to be an ADA-equipped room. Next time, we would love to try one of the rooms on the 2nd or 3rd floors! Hope we can come back! read more

I have mixed feelings while I write this review because Bath Street Inn deserves every amount of praise coming. However, the last thing I want to do is make it more difficult for me to get a reservation in the future. My boyfriend selected this place for us for our weekend getaway. He said the prices were pretty comparable to other airbnbs in the area, though it was a little further away from the action (Lower State, the waterfront, and Downtown). The house is homey and comfortable. It's clear that the clientele here is older, so this is not a place you come to party. Bath Street Inn is meant for a quiet, calm weekend. The room, though small, was great. There was a reading bench by the window, which just added to the charm. Other rooms sported private porches and entryways as well. Tea and cakes are served at 4p. And wine and cheese at 5:30p. (YES!) This alone would make staying here worth it. All the meals I ate at Bath Street were delicious! The homemade granola is a hit for a reason. Light and delicious. The egg dishes prepared (Florentine egg bake and an egg blintz) were absolutely amazing, and prepared me to take on the day. Also during one of the tea times, the most scrumptious maple cake showed up. It took all my energy to not destroy that delicious thing! The owners were accommodating, nice, and cheerful. Always full of helpful information about the area and events about town. And speaking of town: Though separated from the hustle and bustle, the main thoroughfare of downtown was less than a 15 minute walk, and also brings you to the start of the Santa Barbara Waterfront shuttle that will take you up and down State Street for $.50 Between the meals and the extras, the Bath Street Inn has earned my permanent business for my future trips to Santa Barbara. All of my expectations were exceeded and then some! The B&B was booked completely when we were there, and I am not sure how hard it was to get a reservation (and what time frame) but based on that, I wouldn't expect this a place that has too many weekend vacancies. The one downside to staying here: Much like the entirety of SB, there is no air conditioning. It made the evenings a little uncomfortable, but that is the price that comes with the great weekend we at here. read more
