My daughter attended for a couple of years and she loved it. They have a one way screen (so the kids aren't distracted) for parents who want to sit in and wait for their children to finish dance practice. These children are taught many forms of dance including ballet, tap, and tumbling. The prices are kind of high though and so are the picture packages and the dance recital costumes however that's anywhere you go if you're putting your child in dance lessons. Some years there are some really big names that come in, others it is more local talent exposed. I've tried to get down there every year, and it's fun to see how the event has blossomed. There are more local artisans selling down there now which is great. There are also numerous food trucks and vendors so you absolutely will not leave hungry. There are four stages where you can set up and catch all sorts of groups. It's a very friendly vibe all around. I did feel like there was a disconnect this year with communication. I did not see as much advertising around the city until the week of, and I know several past attendees who were not aware of the date and missed it due to scheduling conflicts. It was also not publicized more than a day or two in advance that the bike corrals would be there again with a safe spot to leave your bike if you chose to ride down there. I spoke to the group over that and they hadn't been given much notice either. I tried to ask a couple of questions on social media but the link it kept sending me to was either broken or I wasn't sure if it would send me where I needed to go. Overall, it's a great event that exposes you to lots of talent, and I do look forward to it every year!

Very similar to the White Light Night Event (during the holiday season), it's free and something for the whole family to come out and enjoy. If you want to try to hit up the neighborhood from end to end, you may have to start as soon as they get going, map out all the businesses you are going to hit (with the help of the Yelp bookmarking feature) and time everything precisely. There is a lot to see, a lot to explore and so many awesome folks to meet. Tonight I met many influential people in the community including Mr. Mayor himself, Kip Holden, who is always a pleasure to run into. Don't forget to ride the shuttles to help you get from point A to point B. I know there are always a bunch of events happening in Baton Rouge now, but this is definitely one not to miss. The sights were picturesque and plenty of room for the kiddos, who attended the event, to run around. Family-friendly... yes, this definitely was, and kids under 12 were free! It was calm, serene and the weather was plain perfect for this outdoor shindig. It was a garden party, indeed! Various restaurants were represented featuring chefs that knew Southern cuisine and where to properly source ingredients keeping it Louisiana grown and made. Craft cocktails made by area mixologists and bartenders, one being award winner John Morris from Sidebar/Bin 77 and desserts made by Les Amis Bake Shoppe. I have to say I was a tiny bit jealous of the kiddos, who got to roast hot dogs over the open flames; now that looked like a hoot! I enjoyed dishes creatively prepared by executive chefs and their sous chefs. Participating restaurants were: Magpie Cafe, Tallulah (inside the Renaissance) and Table Kitchen and Bar, just to name a few. Local grocery delivery company - IndiePlate - was also there to answer questions about Louisiana-sourced ingredients and to meet fellow guests. This event is simply AMAZING…read more Signing in was a breeze and very well-organized. All the vendors were extremely passionate about their dishes and presentation. You can tell by the unique flavors that emanated from each item. All the chefs and volunteers were extremely nice and welcoming too. You can tell A LOT of planning, preparation, and hard work were put into this event. The location was gorgeous to take photos! The weather was rather warm but the lighting was on point. There were activities to keep the kids busy while the adults sipped on locally brewed beer and sample amazing cocktails too. Overall, I hope to have more time to attend Slow Food BR events in the future. We will definitely try to attend next year's Fall Heat event.

I did not like that the museum employee gave me a copy of part of what I had already asked my…read morehusband to purchase. He got me the West Baton Rouge Families Book by the West Baton Rouge Genealogical Society in Port Allen, Louisiana. The Book is very excellent and it started me out knowing something of my great-great grandparents and my great-grandfather that was his son, I puchased other books, read articles and obits, and researched about him for over a year. When I went into the museum, no one mentioned there was an entrance fee. I went there to buy more books, The person who helped me was very efficient and knowledgeable. I told him what book I had already, the Families book. Nonetheless, he took me in back and copied stuff from the Caire file and gave it to me. it looked like a lot more than what could have been in the book and I thought it was different. I gave him $20 for going out of his way to assist me and making copies. When I got home, I tore up the copies immediately because I realized they were what my family already spent a lot of money to buy as they were part of the Families book. I am very upset that this happened to me at the museum. I would have never accepted the copies had he told me he was copying what I already had from in the book (some pages). I am going to send in registration because I did not realize that there was an admittance fee. I am giving the museum a 2-star rating rather than 5 because I am so upset that the fellow gave me those copies which I do not think he should have, assumed he would not do something he should not, and I am very, very upset about it. I gave it 2-stars rather than one because the books are good and I really appreciate them. I am willing to share what I have researched and gathered about this line if there is interest; however, everyone left that area. I do not know if there is interest. When the guy took me in the back, I saw there was an amazing mural of the area from 1925. That was incredible! It really must have taken a long time to paint such a large item. And it was great quality.

They even let my daughter come in and taught us a simple dance for our father-daughter dance. Besides the private lessons, they have weekly group lessons and a Friday night party every week.
