I had an issue a year ago 2025 & it took two weeks to resolve but I just went for my b-day last week & it was a pre order so that was actually 100 percent better than the last visit . This is usually my go to for fancy cupcakes for a special occasion. They are always very friendly inside if you wanna just go in and check out their selection. They also do a good job packaging if you order ahead of time. My favorites are their carrot cake, red velvet, and Boston cream pie. But really you can't go wrong with any of them! The cake inside of the cupcake is always soft and moist and for me requires a fork just because I want to savor the goodness. There is a lot of frosting on top, but I think that's what makes it better because I like to have a little bit of frosting with each bite of my cupcake ... some people don't like a lot of frosting so if you don't, you might want to steer clear or just fork some of it off as you're eating. The service was friendly, helpful, and prompt, and I loved the varied flavor selection that they had. I really wish Cupcakin local to us had so many unique flavor choices. Taste wise, the gingerbread cupcake cake was so light and airy, but the frosting was cream cheese based and I've just never been a fan of that style. The cake pop was white and appeared to be vanilla on the outside but was chocolate on the inside and not labeled as such. It also needed something like crushed peppermint in it to really make it sing. It's a small shop. We were greeted right when we entered. As we looked in the display case they let us know they were here to help, if we had any questions. Honestly, I couldn't decide. They all looked really good. I went with the Hot Fudge Sundae and the Strawberry Shortcake Sundae. I gave away the strawberry one to a co worker. We ordered some custom cupcakes from Batter N Icing for our son's birthday. Ordering was easy online, using their order form. I was able to fill out all the details needed, a theme and also upload inspiration photos. They respond via email and also give you a call - giving you the option to either discuss your ideas different ways. I did end up going in-person (in downtown pleasant hill with plenty of parking in the back lot) and the baker was helpful! She was open to brainstorming ideas and even had a tablet to show different design options. My theme was quite niche but they were able to do the design using inspiration from online. We got to try Batter N Icing at a Yelp event a while back and finally got to stop by the brick and mortar. It's located in downtown Pleasant Hill with parking in front and a lot in the back. They have a menu of seasonal flavors that change daily along with the regular flavors served every day. We got a box of 6 for $24 and they were so delicious. The cake was fluffy and the frosting wasn't overly sweet. My favorite was the chocolate vanilla and my partner's was the cookies n cream. All the flavors were really good! read more

Although yesterday (08/31/2024) was my first visit to the Pleasant Hill location, I've enjoyed treats from the Danville location for ~3 years back when they were Smallcakes. We would get the mini cupcakes for birthdays at my old job. I saw a post from Batter 'N Icing on Nextdoor announcing the last day for the August specials. These included two of my favorite flavors, ube and Boston cream pie. Fortunately, I live 6 mins away so I was able to make a quick trip ~10 mins prior to closing. I really liked the Boston cream pie. It wasn't overly sweet and all of the flavors - chocolate, custard, and yellow cake - were nicely balanced. While I liked the cake portion of the ube cupcake, the frosting was way too sweet. I could barely taste the ube in the frosting and felt like I was just eating pure sugar that was purple. I ended up scraping off the frosting and just eating the cake portion. My friend got the ube cupcake a few hours before I went and she said the same about the frosting! The woman working at the store was friendly and efficient, even though I came close to closing time. Surprisingly, I was the only person in the store. I would have thought it would be crowded given the downtown location on a Saturday night. Parking was easy as there were plenty of spots. They have doggie cupcakes, which I plan to get for my mom's dog's birthday this month. Hopefully the dog will give four paws up for the pupcakes. one of my friends wants to get pupcakes for her dog's birthday next month. Yesterday was my first time trying the regular sized cupcakes so I don't know if heavy frosting is the norm. I didn't see mini options for the specials on their website. If they bring ube back, I hope that 1) they'd make the frosting less sweet with more ube flavor and 2) offer a mini size. This is a grab and go spot there's no tables or chairs. They had a good selection of cupcakes and the decor is very pretty. Pre ordered a dozen mini cupcakes and half the order was wrong! When at the store, I the box sticker was making it difficult to open the box to check my order, with no help from the sales girls. I left so as not to be a nuisance - a mistake ! When I got to my bday celebration, we discovered the mistake. When I called the store to notify the error, they (politely) told me it's my problem since I didn't open and check my box there. Associate told me that once I take the box home, it can't be changed. Also told me next time to ask the sales associate for my ticket. Didn't have the heart to tell her there's not going to be a next time as I expect a business to rectify their mistake? While the cake itself was moist, the batter was overly sweet and the frosting was horrible. You really cannot mess up cream cheese frosting when it comes to red velvet or carrot cakes. That's like the basis of it. The frosting lacked cream cheese (probably didn't have any in it) and was overly sweet. The whole thing just tasted very odd and overall way too sweet. I'm so glad I finally got around to trying my neighborhood Batter 'N Icing bakery. It is now my children's favorite place for cupcakes and cakes! Although their cupcakes are a little pricier than your run-of-the-mill cupcakes, it is definitely worth it. Not only are the cakes super moist with an ample amount of delicious frosting but there are also a TON of creative flavors combinations and options. This time, we just got a small sampling box of 3 flavors: Boston Cream, Red Velvet, and Ice Cream Sunday with the cherry on top! My favorite was the Boston Cream which has the delicious cream filling in the center that is lighter than the frosting. My kids really liked the red velvet option. This bakery ruined the gender reveal of my first baby, what was supposed to be one of the most special moments of my life. I emailed the manger and made sure we were on the same page and my request was doable... sending pictures of exactly what I wanted the inside and outside of the cake to look like. I made sure to explain myself very clear in person in the store and they took the gender envelope from my doctor. I had my gender results several days before in my portal, but I waited to look because I wanted this moment to be special instead of just looking at my phone. It took forever to get my OB to print the envelope but I finally got it and took it straight to the bakery. They told me the cake would be white on the outside and vanilla with the gender color frosting inside. When my husband and I cut into it, it was funfetti cake (rainbow color) with white frosting only on the inside and outside. They remade my cake the next day but my husband was on call and there was a chance we couldn't cut into it for another week, so we just looked at the envelope ourselves. Thank you for taking this moment away from me. I had my wedding cupcakes done here too and will never spend another dollar at this company. Truly the worst mistake they could have made. Batter N' Icing in Pleasant Hill is one of those places that instantly puts everyone in a good mood. The cupcakes are dangerously good. What really makes it a family favorite though is their gluten free option, which is not a sad substitute pretending to be dessert. It is actually delicious. Like "did you check the label to be sure this is gluten free?" delicious. Seeing my gluten free kiddo light up because they get the same cupcake joy as everyone else is everything. Their cupcakes are good but some flavors are definitely better than others. I find the girls working are ok - not the best, most pleasant service, but not the worst. Last time I came in the two girls working there (one just leaving as she probably just finished her shift) decided to finish up their conversation while I was standing there waiting. Love they have a punchcard but I find it odd that you get one punch for buying one cupcake, or one dozen. Overall I'll still keep coming here to support a small business and some good cupcakes but I think they're about 3.75 stars and could be better. read more

And the flavors are not just unique, they are well balanced. Care is taken in getting just the right balance of sweet, enticing in appearance, and fresh. Many other places I have been too have offerings that are too dry and overly sweetened (which doesn't make up for it). These are so good. From my 6 box choices, my favorite was the Lemon Drop (lemon in the batter, the topping, and inside the cake). Second best was the Watermelon for its care in appearance (and taste). Save me a box. They have rotating daily specials and one monthly special, everything is posted on their Instagram. Service is just ok, could be better. I also think they need to revise their punch card system: you get one punch whether you purchase 1 cupcake or one dozen, which is a significant difference in price. On top of that the store didn't smell... like... gross when we walked in. Many bakery's I have walked into just smell super weird and kinda repulse me. This was small clean compact and eye catching. I would go back ONE more time to try another one that I wanna try, but after that no... 5.50 for a cupcakes just blows my mind but this was impulsive.. and it was good so I left happy. Finally had a chance to try the cupcakes here. Was really looking forward to them. Nice variety of flavors--we got the pink vanilla, pink chocolate, caramel crunch, banana foster, lemon drop, and chocolate cream. The cupcakes are a generous size! They are noticeably larger than other cupcake places I have been to in the area. I first tried the chocolate cream--it looked like a Hostess cupcake. The cake is fairly moist and not overly sweet or greasy. For me, the frosting was not that great. I loved that it was pretty generous on frosting, but was disappointed that it didn't taste very buttery to me. I could taste the chocolate, but it didn't have the truffle ganache taste I was expecting. It was just choco-sweet. I also had the caramel crunch--again, cake is good. The frosting again wasn't buttery--was expecting that for a caramel frosting. It tasted shortening-y, which then magnifies the sugar taste, so the overall note on the frosting (for both cupcakes) reads as sweet. I bought six cupcakes but wasn't offered a punch card like I've read about on other reviews. Not sure how often I will be back, as maybe the flavor here doesn't suit my taste that well. Delicious cupcakes and beautiful custom cakes! We grabbed mini cupcakes to bring to a family party and everyone raved about good they were! We then decided to use them for our gender reveal cake. I placed an inquiry online then finished the details over the phone. I was able to send them photo inspiration which they nailed. My bestie called in with the color to make the inside and they make sure to keep it a secret from me when I picked up the cake. The cake was very good.
