Okay, so who doesn't give top stars for cupcakes? The ARE the BEST! No kidding. Visited for the first time and OMG, these are the freshest cupcakes. And the flavors are not just unique, they are well balanced. Care is taken in getting just the right balance of sweet, enticing in appearance, and fresh. Many other places I have been too have offerings that are too dry and overly sweetened (which doesn't make up for it). These are so good. From my 6 box choices, my favorite was the Lemon Drop (lemon in the batter, the topping, and inside the cake). Second best was the Watermelon for its care in appearance (and taste). Save me a box. Batter N' Icing in Pleasant Hill is one of those places that instantly puts everyone in a good mood. The cupcakes are dangerously good. What really makes it a family favorite though is their gluten free option, which is not a sad substitute pretending to be dessert. It is actually delicious. Like "did you check the label to be sure this is gluten free?" delicious. Seeing my gluten free kiddo light up because they get the same cupcake joy as everyone else is everything. I'll give this a 5 MAINLY because the most picky person I know loved it! Lol but also... the cake part was moist and delicious not overly sweet and the icing was super yummy. On top of that the store didn't smell... like... gross when we walked in. Many bakery's I have walked into just smell super weird and kinda repulse me. This was small clean compact and eye catching. I would go back ONE more time to try another one that I wanna try, but after that no... 5.50 for a cupcakes just blows my mind but this was impulsive.. and it was good so I left happy. The lady behind the counter was nice and also cut the cupcake in two for me when I asked :) as well as let me take a photo before doing so lol. Overall 9/10 for the Oreo cookie flavor... Absolutely delicious cupcakes. Now that they opened this location in Pleasant Hill, we have been getting to try lots of their unique flavors. They have rotating daily specials and one monthly special, everything is posted on their Instagram. Service is just ok, could be better. I also think they need to revise their punch card system: you get one punch whether you purchase 1 cupcake or one dozen, which is a significant difference in price. Also, they seem to have recently raised their prices by a dollar or so.. almost $5 per cupcake. I love their flavors so I will still be going back! read more

Probably one of the best cupcakes I've had in a really long time came from this awesome bakery! My daughter's gg was in charge of dessert for her birthday party and this place was on point. Delicious cupcakes and beautiful custom cakes! We grabbed mini cupcakes to bring to a family party and everyone raved about good they were! We then decided to use them for our gender reveal cake. I placed an inquiry online then finished the details over the phone. I was able to send them photo inspiration which they nailed. My bestie called in with the color to make the inside and they make sure to keep it a secret from me when I picked up the cake. The cake was very good. We are so lucky to get cupcakes for the nursing team in surgery from one of our doctors. Not only was it a nice surprise but the cupcakes were so moist and fluffy. The cupcakes are definitely worth trying. It's not heavy nor are they so light that you eat more than you should consume. I had the red velvet with vanilla cream icing but definitely worth buying a dozen for your family or gift to your staff. Wonderful presentation and box has cupcake holders so they won't smash while getting these precious delights to your recipient. Some bakeries are very happy to sell you their beautiful and delicious baked goods but don't offer a way for you to keep them beautiful as you picked them at the bakery. Finally had a chance to try the cupcakes here. Was really looking forward to them. Nice variety of flavors--we got the pink vanilla, pink chocolate, caramel crunch, banana foster, lemon drop, and chocolate cream. The cupcakes are a generous size! They are noticeably larger than other cupcake places I have been to in the area. I first tried the chocolate cream--it looked like a Hostess cupcake. The cake is fairly moist and not overly sweet or greasy. For me, the frosting was not that great. I loved that it was pretty generous on frosting, but was disappointed that it didn't taste very buttery to me. I could taste the chocolate, but it didn't have the truffle ganache taste I was expecting. It was just choco-sweet. I also had the caramel crunch--again, cake is good. The frosting again wasn't buttery--was expecting that for a caramel frosting. It tasted shortening-y, which then magnifies the sugar taste, so the overall note on the frosting (for both cupcakes) reads as sweet. I bought six cupcakes but wasn't offered a punch card like I've read about on other reviews. Not sure how often I will be back, as maybe the flavor here doesn't suit my taste that well. That said, I'm glad there's a place to get really pretty cupcakes in this shopping area. I'll have to come back and try the red velvet and see if I like that one. read more

Preorder mini Halloween cupcakes at $35 per dozen and we ordered 2 dozen. And they have no bags to bag them up so as we were leaving one of the top boxes shifted, and we lost gripping of it and so the cupcakes shifted all over the box asked them if they could fix the decorations. They told us they could fix it but they would charge us $35 more Just to redecorate. Absolute horrendous customer service. Especially for someone that is a frequent customer. It makes me rethink if I ever wanna go there again. The explanation for the cost was that they would have have to pay their decorator overtime to fix them. They also had a margarita flavor cupcake for cinco de mayo but I didn't try it. A very festive idea. Service overall was good and the displays were very nice. All the desserts at this lovely shop appear incredibly impressive, it absolutely gets an A++ for beautiful-looking sugary creations. Unfortunately we didn't love either of the treats we tried. The cupcake was way too sweet for us, and the blondie was dry and, ironically, not sweet enough for us. We'd had our share of both after just one bite each, so unfortunately not a great experience. I barely go to Pleasant Hill but I'm so glad I found this place after eating lunch from across the street. They have a variety of cupcakes to choose from and all different and creative flavors. They also do mini version which I found to be pretty cool so you can try an assortment of flavors. I tried the cinnamon sugar coffee cake and OMG it was to die for! It was super moist and the frosting was so good and not overly sweet. The store is pretty small where you walk in and you can see the cupcakes behind the glass front and choose from there. The girl helping us was super friendly and didn't mind that we asked a bunch of questions which is always a plus. Oh how I wish this place was closer to where I lived! read more

This cupcake spot just opened up in downtown Pleasant Hill. I love cupcakes so naturally, I had to try it. The lady working was quick to let me know that their Apple pay was down so I had to have a physical card on me. I usually don't these days but thankfully I did have one on me at the time! Also it doesn't look like they offer any cash option. There were a few different flavors to choose from and I went with the apple one as it seemed festive. The apple part was definitely more cake which I enjoyed with a pretty sweet frosting. The cupcake was moist and pretty big so I had to finish the other half the next day and it still was fresh.
