This is your basic motel but instead of a view of the town, you have a beautiful view of the countryside. This is conveniently located near the Howe Caverns (so book together for a great deal). There's nothing "special" about the place except for the friendly staff and the amazing scenery. It's a motel, after all.

June 12, 2021 Do NOT HESITATE TO STAY at the immaculate and updated Howe Caverns Motel!! Don't let the 1958 motel exterior fool you it is pristine in every way. Large rooms with coffeemakers, refrigerators and flat screen televisions await you. Comfortable beds and a beautiful view of the mountains can be seen from every room. The employees were polite, accommodating and friendly. An adorable welcome package is waiting for you when you check in!! A++++ in every way!! A perfect place to relax after a fun filled tour of Howe Caverns at a very family friendly price!!!

I stayed at the motel on a recent trip to Howe Caverns with my boyfriend. We stayed there as part of one of their package deals with tickets to the caverns. Included in our package was a souvenir tray, flowers, champagne and some homemade fudge in the room upon our arrival. Our room had 2 double beds and was comfortable. All rooms are non-smoking. I liked the bathroom area, which had a separate room with the toilet and shower and another room with 2 sinks. There was a TV, but stations were very limited. On site there is a pool, but it was snowing so we obvious were not using it. The convenience to the caverns is the real appeal. It is also about 4 miles from food and businesses in Cobleskill. In all, a comfortable place to stay overnight when making a trip to Howe Caverns. And if you go off-season, the rates are even more reasonable...

The motel was very clean & the space was wonderful. The view from the room fantastic. The double vanity was very welcome. The AC worked & it was great! Bring your own lotion because they do not provide that.

Motel rooms were very nice, we got the tour package and it included the Howe Cavern tour some home made fudge and bag of rock mining.

When this place opened many moons ago as a Holiday Inn (that's why the address lists the street as…read moreHoliday Way) I stayed here on business for several days and had a nice stay. There was an upscale restaurant down the road and generally it was an easy place to book at a time before AirB&B. I potentially needed an accessible room so this was the only option for miles. It was, unfortunately, a short but disappointing stay overall. Let me say that the best part of this experience was the person on the day shift who answered the phone and checked about accessible rooms (you can't get one if your party has more than 2 people in a room-you have to book a second room, so double the price). The check in person also was able to move our room across the hall so we were not up against the highway. He offered up free water bottles for each of us. So far so good. Entering the room, there was a strong smell of deodorizer or cleaner. The double queen room was spacious enough and the refrigerator worked well. A microwave was also available. The bathroom floor seemed new and was overall clean. The toilet flush gurgled but it operated fine. The faucet was replaced at some point but was crooked and the drain stopper was missing its top. Everything in the room was painted in various shades of tan except for the back of the bathroom door which was painted white with a roller since no one cut in along the hook, knob hinges or the floor. The room space itself was stark in that there was no art or decor on the walls except for two mirrors and the triangular headboards. If you wanted to used the drawers, you were limited as the night stand was missing all of the hardware and the bureau was missing 1/4 of them. All the furniture shows signs of dings, dents and distress. The carpet was stained in multiple spots including a 3" diameter red circle on the outside wall that looked like someone had dumped a whole bottle of nail polish. The two chairs at the desk/table were mismatched. One was probably original as the foam was two dimensional. The other was a green banquet chair identical to those in the breakfast room and similar to those in the former Holiday Inn Ballroom in the basement. The air conditioning cooled enough but was malfunctioning as everything in the room, including our clothes, was damp when we dressed in the morning. Coffee and hot water is available 24/7 in the breakfast room. The coffee and water was pleasantly hot in the late afternoon as they did not use air pots like many hotels. I had to got to the front desk for napkins. Upon re-entering our room after getting coffee I understood why they had sprayed our room as there was a strong smell akin to body odor. The bed sheets appeared very clean but the mattress itself was very soft and uncomfortable . The deodorizer must also have been used on the beds as it permeated our sleepwear. We smelled it as we unpacked our clothes at the next stop. Breakfast had a few carb-forward choices and small yogurts. We were glad we had brought something from home, just in case. One of us went out to our vehicle parked on the east side of the building in the early evening . A female employee (?) was sweeping. Two other women were there as well, one on the bench and a third who did not appear to be guest or an employee talking to the sweeping woman. She was dressed in a cleavage revealing top and a leopard skirt that ended where her legs began. When I reported all of this (with less detail) via the Quality Inn survey, I received a terse reply not addressing anything except my observation of the woman in the lot. They implied that the third woman was an employee and that my observation of this person's dress was in "poor taste." I'm not sure what role the woman in question has in that business, but perhaps the person in charge of HR for this location might need to address workwear, if she was in fact an employee. However this might be why this place is in such disrepair. In a public facing business where perception is equally important as the product and service, management here is focused only on being defensive when guests bring up issues. No, I won't be returning.

They were very accommodating, even the housekeeping staff was friendly and accommodating. Clean rooms, in good repair, convenient location. My refrigerator control knob was missing and I had a brand new refrigerator delivered within hours. I am headed back there with family and I know they will all be satisfied. The rates, for the quality, are very good. My only negative is the parking lot lighting is insufficient.

August must be a peak tourism time because Howe Motel and every other hotel/motel in the area was completely booked...all except for this one. I can't lie, I'm totally dependent on Yelp and the review was really strange so we were hesitant. But the weekend of our trip arrived and we were getting desperate so my bf called back and booked the room. On the drive up to the caverns I was being a tourist and taking pictures of EVERYTHING we saw on the way (even the cows). But when we passed the motel it looked creepy and deserted like something out of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, so my bf slowed down so I could snap a picture for Instagram. But when I tried to take the picture (on my iPad), it turned out white and foggy like it was double exposed film and I couldn't see anything. That has never happened before (it's an iPad!), but I thought my case might have been in the way so I tried it again and the same thing happened. I gave up and we sped back up, but I swear the next picture I snapped 5 seconds later came out CRYSTAL clear. Call it a coincidence if you want, but that was enough for us. My bf called up the motel right after and cancelled our reservation. The lady could have very well been nice and the stay could have been fine, but there was no way I was taking a chance. We ended up driving longer on the way back from the cave and staying in a nice, cozy Catskills lodge for the same price.

We were returning to Cleveland after a visit to my family in Maine, and our two cats were with us. Rocket, the big white one, loves everyone. EVERYONE. He believes that humans were put on this earth to love and adore him. When we checked in that evening the woman at the desk looked a little odd to us--her skin seemed very loose, as if she'd lost a lot of weight very quickly, but she was a perfectly nice person and so we didn't think about it. The next morning she passed our room as we were hauling bags and cats back out to the car. Charles had Rocket in his arms, the lady said hello, and Charles tried to introduce them. Rocket took *one look* at her and vaulted up over Charles' shoulder and under the bed as if this woman were going to eat his soul. Rocket doesn't hide from anything, ever. We made our apologies and she went on her way. We extracted Rocket from under the bed and got him into the car; he spent the next thirty or forty minutes hiding in the covered litter box. When we got to a rest station in Ohio he sat on my lap and looked out the window; he saw a woman with long black hair like the scary lady's and DUCKED UNDER THE EDGE OF THE WINDOW so she wouldn't see him. We passed through the area a year later and he got really anxious and agitated. I've heard that cats have a memory of about ten years; I'm curious to see what would happen if we went there now. Honestly, I don't remember much else about the motel. As far as I remember it was comfortable and clean; the area is definitely beautiful, since it's upstate New York.

From start to finish it was truly a wonderful experience. Absolutely a night of classic elegance and decadent food. We arrived 30 minutes before our reservation to sit at the bar and have a pre-dinner cocktail. We each had an old fashioned, which were excellently made by the very friendly bartender. The bar area was small and intimate with small side areas with high top tables, couches and armchairs. We could have happily spent all night in this area. We were later seated in the restaurant area and had another round of drinks, an appetizer (roasted pork terrine) and two entrees (chicken Milanese and the lamb shoulder ragu). Each dish was rich and flavorful. Great food, great service, beautiful building and grounds. Easy 5 start review.

For starters we had their incredible house-made Parker house rolls with cultured butter garnished with salt and thyme. They came ripping hot out of the oven with the perfect flaky texture. These could've be served at the best steakhouses in NYC for how perfect they were. We also had the Caesar salad and ricotta and spinach dumplings. We were particularly pleased with the dumplings which were accompanied by tender baby hakurei turnips. We split the Wagyu burger with crispy, pressed fries for our entree. The burger was juicy and topped with caramelized onions and tangy thousand island sauce. Dessert was a spectacular sticky toffee pudding which was perhaps the best sticky toffee pudding we've ever had. It was generously portioned and swimming in toffee sauce. We had an awesome meal here and Shandaken Inn has quickly risen to one of our favorite restaurants in the Catskills
